Newbie here but interested in checking out this group!
Carrie in PEI. I had coconut yogurt and a banana. Oh, and a cup of “calming” tea. The tea didn’t really help… ;-)
Hi all! I'm a pre-service teacher from Grove City College and am super excited to be here!
Welcome! We are casual tonight, no set topic, just chatter. Formal topics resume next week!
We are on cocktail chatter this week, just hanging out and catching up!
Hello from BC, Canana ! Unfortunately today was too busy for a morning snack, but my husband did bring me a vanilla latte...
Amy here, moderating from the Canada. Morning snack was strawberry yogurt.
Hello, Hello . Misty from Ontario.
That man is a keeper (I’m sure you already knew that though!)
I'm a newbie too! New to chats and to ...excited to join the chat tonight!
Didn't have cabana k but had pizza for lunch.
Absolutely! It's too hard to break in a new one, anyways. ;-)
Exactly! And just today I was dreaming of sharing one with you f2f again someday. :-)
ICYMI - Here are 5 resources to make sure there are no more tears in your kinder classroom! 😢https://t.co/pUFdylw0in
Hello I'm Angela from MN & happy to be stopping by!
Hi from Christine in warm Southern Alberta. Have Greek yogurt with berries.
Soon, surely! Why does it seem so difficult for us to make this happen? We do not live THAT far apart!
Hey! It hit 60 degrees in MN today and let's just say, we went out for a morning brain break! No snow pants!
I'm from Indiana. Taught 10 years of first grade and now teaching Kindergarten (by choice 😉)
. Kari, elementary principal from NW IA just checking this chat out for the first time. Trying to learn more about K and EC.
I know, right?!? Do you have any Pro D sessions coming up?
Faige from Los Angeles. I took my latte 2work while I subbed in my old classroom. I had lunch duty but no rain so no complaints
Hi! I'm in MN too! NIce to have you!
Lucky you! We were stuck inside with rain today. :-(
Hi! Jumping in from Oregon where we've had storms, sun, and rainbows today. :)
Hello from very snowy northern Saskatchewan, my morning snack was lazy bannock (fry bread) with chilli jam! It was awesome!
Isn't it crazy how different they are? I taught first for one year, then have been in kinder for 13. Love both
Hello all! I'm Kelsey from Florida!
Hi Faige! So neat to see you go back to sub at your old school. :-)
No time for snack today but I did have pizza for lunch.
Not w/travel. Today was PD for my staff, but in house...
Missed the question at first :-) ....no morning snack for me..just lots of busy with the kiddos!
I think that's coming as us later this week...
Was early but now I am late... hello all!
HI!! What's the temp in sunny FL today?
Hi, first time on this chat and first time chat user as well. Currently work in Kindergarten and love it.
I'm heading your way soon...Palm Springs for Spring Break...and one day at Disneyland!
When I was in kindergarten as a student, parents took turns providing snack. Anyone else remember this?
Mardelle here, from the bc rockies. I miss miss . If you are new to it, jump in with both feet
where in florida are you? That's where I grew up.
We are coming to PSP too! Bring on the sunny days!
I don’t remember parent’s providing snacks, but I do remember nap time!
Welcome to twitter chats Grace. It can be overwhelming at first but it is a great thing.
Yep! My first year teaching, we had kids bring in snacks for the whole class. One day a S brought PB sandwiches
today we had a high of 81! 😊☀️
I'm a first timer for both too! We can learn together!
Sounds wonderful! Enjoy When is your SB? https://t.co/WyKj0l9MOy
I'm heading your way soon...Palm Springs for Spring Break...and one day at Disneyland!
My previous school in the states did that. Now we ask the students to bring their own snack.
Hello ~ Brittany from sunny (finally!) Chicago. Enjoyed some grapes for morning snack :D
Yes, but now as teachers we have to provide snack if a child's parent forget to pack the snack.
Our parents provide snacks for our kiddos! We don't do a morning snack because we eat decently early (11:10)
Some schools around her still do but tricky with so many allergies. Know some teachers with snack programs too.
I remember lying a mat for rest time. I told my mum I wanted my K teacher to be my mum if she died!
Absolutely don't want to spoil our reputation
Spring Break starts on Friday!
Hey ho! Popping in!! Hi Everyone! Heidi here in balmy PA!
Missed the ? at first too. I had cookie dough while I was making cookies for conferences tomorrow :)
It was yummy. It was homemade!
I have parents provide snack for a week for the class! Each parent ends up with 2 turns in a school year.
MINE TOO and I can't wait!!!
Awesome! I am originally from Florida and moving back in two months! so excited for warm weather. MN is cold!
Nice. I grew up & started teaching around Orlando.
No snacks by parents but I do remember rest time after lunch Long gone :(
Independence is a huge factor. In k, you need to start from the very beginning, with everything
I bet! Where in FL will you be moving?
Orlando... Means Disney! Haha
Yep! Step by step and lots of modeling, modeling, modeling
We ask that students only bring a fruit or veggie for snack. Try to make it as easy as possible
Ours starts next week. We are counting the days down-four more.
Well, originally from Tampa too but (fam is still there) moving to Port St. Lucie on east coast!
Replaced by reading, writing, & ‘brain breaks’. It’s so unfortunate what we’re doing 2 our kids
Someone today was saying interdependence is equally important. Interesting idea.
My family NEEDS this break!
exactly. That's where all my friends in HS worked. :)
Anyone doing anything exciting for spring break? Me- stay cation with the heat turned up and tropical youtubes :)
My sister's kdg. class rests for 1/2 hr. after lunch every day. So nice that they can do that - it's needed!
Early for us Often times end of March but not sure when this year
When I switched from 1st to K had a HUGE appreciation for all K teachers, all the Ss grow so much
We have a quiet time after lunch too. Kids can lie down, read, draw. Nice peaceful time for kids.
Nothing special, hanging out at the house and plenty of sleep. Lol
Palm Springs for golfing and one day at Disneyland!
We're going to a cabin in the snow to play.
Modeling, tons of visuals, practice, practice - tons of movement and plan for transitions
So jealous of Disneyland!!!!!
QOTD: "Please finish your work." "I can't. My fists are stuck to my forehead."
That's wonderful, we only have 10 minutes and they can put their head down or draw.
The snack thing is so interesting. Amazed that so many still have parent-provided snacks, w/allergies & dietary restrictions.
SB starts March 28th Just checked
For spring break we are doing a short Disney cruise with my husband's family
I can't wait to see the new electrical parade and new fireworks!
I'm on our schedule committee just to fight for our social play time!
My spring break will be house hunting...with a 6 year old in tow. Fun! No rest for the EC teacher/mom! Ha!
Who's the leader of the club? M-I-C K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E!
Fun! I've been on cruises, but never a Disney cruise.
Sounds like much fun. I haven't been in 11years.
Disney cruise is the best. So awesome! Fun for kids, old and young!
That's awesomely histerical!
I got "smell my leg" last week. Haha
Play time is so important! They need more, not less.
student who was most seriously injured was going to fly home today by air ambulance to local hosp, too much snow
We are doing a Caribbean cruise his summer...but Royal Caribbean, not Disney.
First time to ! I am Heather...I'm an education coordinator for a child care agency in Indiana. I had coffee for morning snack!
Totally understand. I have 8 & 5 yr olds at home. I don't think I ever sit down.
Oh no! Any idea how much snow has to go away (or just stop snowing)?
I think coined the term "Protectors of Play" So many valuable skills integrated in meaningful ways. https://t.co/440l2TMQ5g
I'm on our schedule committee just to fight for our social play time!
We don't do group snacks for that reason. Too many allergies.
I often wonder how we got a man on the moon…
Son sees Exxon sign asks me "what's that" I reply "gas station." Son "E hashtag ON is a GAS STATION?"
RT I got "smell my leg" last week. Haha
I hope that therapist helps melt the stress away!
No rests go into specialist or writing or math lesson. Play time often integrated in
We have never done group snacks.
If you are going to teach K, have a strong background in early childhood ed & development
Amen to that. How else can they learn valuable social skills, teamwork, etc. without a chance to practice?
I have never seen sand so white or soft or coral so amazing as we did in Caribbean at Castaway Cay
Yeah that's usually what happens to my classroom, so we have social centers as well.
In K we need to protect the "wonder" that comes w/ learning and integrate curriculum meaningfully
we did group snacks in that states-Texas but not here in Ontario, Canada.
So funny - ppl who live away from snow go to snow for spring break. Ppl who live in snow FLEE for spring break!
We only had that one gigantic snow so a little more sounds good to me!! :)
Since moving to Indiana I never get enough snow. If I was spring breaking, I'd def be heading TOWARD snow
Are you going anywhere for Spring Break?
We do get wet, heavy spring snow in March and April but I think the super cold temps are gone!
Yes. My husband just turned 40 & wanted to go enjoy all the snow the mountains are getting.
I’m going south for spring break. But it’s south to New Hampshire. So I don’t know if that really counts as south...
Plus, we're burned out from sun after growing up in Florida.
Nah, staying close to home. Christmas in Germany took quite a dent out of the travel budget!
You should check out some other chats too :-) , , , etc. So many great ones out there
Any resources you use for your social centers? Would love to try it out inclass!
We just opened the "Bunny Box Office". If you'd like a ticket to the show, there are 70,000 available
Are there magic shows? Like with the Bunny?
It’s all perspective. We have arctic birds that fly south to PEI for the winter. Bcz our winter is 1000x better!
Kinders have those options in am & built in class time THEY need it and outside play
I didn't know it was possible to get burned out from sun! Ha!
they range from a penny to about one billion dollars but we can't guarantee a view
Hubby is heading to bed without me but I'll be back again! Enjoyed chatting with you all!
I hadn't thought of that- neither have they but I love that!!!
Did I tell you I'm ordering real waldorf playstands for all my preschool & JK classes? True story..
I was just wondering who the Bunny was!
what's a waldorf playstand?! ok googling :)
your teachers are spoiled - in a good way
Looks great!!! That will go a looooooong way!!
I read that as "Waldorf salad". Oh dear.
That is what I immediately thought of, too!
haaaaa I bet they have it there- for a hundred dollars! :)
Yup! Love KInder! Love musical theatre! Love Maui! Going to Palm Springs!
We are so blessed. I remind myself and my team every day.
Also possibly a delicious option!
Love. Adding to my wishlist!
Hello! whats on tap tonight? :)
Checking it out later THX
Can never have enough tape.
well, would you want the sign to fall down?!
What tips would you give an aspiring kindergarten teacher right before they start college? Thank you!!!
Have a good week! My kids are needing some help calming down for bed. ;)
I have spent so much money on tape in Kinder. For real. All kinds too.
Gorgeous, right? And so versatile for all kinds of dramatic play, quiet play, reading tent, etc.
Well I need to clean my kitchen and it is 10:39 pm. I believe next week I am up as moderator- keep watching this space for news!
Thanks friends. Need to run. Have a great week and those starting SB in a few days ENJOY you all are amazing
My 5 yr old got tape in her stocking. She can't get enough of it!
What's the topic next week?
Sorry to miss you next week, Carrie. I will be going tech-free for my vacation.
We should get to sponsor. haaa DO they know how much they love tape??
Tape is one of the single most important classroom supplies in K!
Thanks Faige! I wish I could connect with you while I am in CA.
Yes!! Duct tape, masking tape, packing tape, and regular tape. Product endorsements available!
Tape and staples in my room...must make BOOKS!
I think that it's great to shadow someone else and to remember that college won't define you as a teacher.
RT My 5 yr old got tape in her stocking. She can't get enough of it!
That would be a dream f2f bucket list
My Ss repair books. Do you think they are up to something?!
love when Santa brings tape! Daughters & daughter in law not so much, lol
Any advice for managing book making mayhem?
I will find some of my resources and send them along to you!
Oh yes, all the time! Books are well loved. ;)
Pay attention to the Child Development stuff so you know what is realistic for your little ones! And have fun!
I used to have a book hospital, and kids fixed during playtime!
Along with tape, post its! Still remember my granddaughter, at 2.5 putting post its with "names" on all the kitchen chairs
Awesome! I would love that!
I usually do the repairs myself- of course they want them done right then- not sure- what do you do?
It was a plastic tub w/a red cross on the side!
I may steal/borrow/take that great idea!
Ooh, I have never had a book hospital...mine just make books of their own.
Heading out everyone! Fun tonight! Hope to stop in next week too!
Evidently mine just tear them!
goodnight, see you next week
Ok time for me too guys!! Am doing laundry! :) Goodnight!!! xoxo
Night all. Enjoy your week ahead.
Ok, over & out, friends. Join us next week when formal chat topics resume. Have a great week!
Thanks for all the fun Have a wonderful week!
