Q1: Legit relationships require intentional effort to meet others where they are. Describe ways you locate the coordinates of your students to build a relationship. #MasteryChat
Q1: Legit relationships require intentional effort to meet others where they are. Describe ways you locate the coordinates of your students to build a relationship. #MasteryChat
A1 Get to know them from day 1. Learn about them. Not just their level of understanding of the content, but about them personally. Find what they care about, what they like to do, and then find ways to connect that to your content and environment. #masterychat
Q1: Legit relationships require intentional effort to meet others where they are. Describe ways you locate the coordinates of your students to build a relationship. #MasteryChat
Q1: Legit relationships require intentional effort to meet others where they are. Describe ways you locate the coordinates of your students to build a relationship. #MasteryChat
A1: As a soon to be 1st year teacher, I am already thinking of ways to intentionally connect with my Ss. I want to meet them where they are and focus on building relationships during the 1st week of school. #masterychat
A1 - Getting to know who your students are is a HUGE step in meeting them where they are. Building relationships, having conversations about them, and their interests, and finding time to connect with them outside of academic settings can all help with this #masterychat
A1: As instructional coach, staying connected is a harder challenge, so I took a cart and made the mobile workstation. Can do everything I need out in the hallways & move anywhere I want to be to see Ss & Ts. Inspired by @gcouros#masterychat Don't know why pic is sideways, lol
A1 Any authentic relationship requires time! Time to get to know them, time to develop trust and admiration. Spend time with them at recess, during lunch, before/after school, hallway conversations....#masterychat
Hi all! I'm Melissa from Atchiosn, KS. I teach 6-8 Soc Studies. One thing to know is that I'm a long way from where I grew up in the Bay Area CA but absolutely love being a Midwesterner! #masterychat
A1: TRUST/Relationship building is key! Build it w/ making, creating, challenges, and a lot of listening.
Embed authentic moments throughout the year to maintain trust. Time outside the school day ties bonds #LEGITRelationships#Nan3EDU#MasteryChat
Good evening,#MasteryChat!Anna from San Diego, where I have the pleasure of sharing in learning with my English 11 and AVID 11 kiddos!I want others to know that being true to who we are takes courage and might earn us some conflict, but ultimately will lead us to the joy we seek.
I usually just talk to them, usually about non-school stuff or other classes. Those that are hesitant require observation but eventually they all get reached. #MasteryChat
Q1: Legit relationships require intentional effort to meet others where they are. Describe ways you locate the coordinates of your students to build a relationship. #MasteryChat
A1: I am an instructional coach so my KIDS are staff. It has to start with a conversation until I know what THEY know. We start from there. #masterychat
Q1: Legit relationships require intentional effort to meet others where they are. Describe ways you locate the coordinates of your students to build a relationship. #MasteryChat
A1: Intake surveys in which you ask them to share. At the start of the year take the time to engage in real conversations. Ice breakers and personal topic writes work just nice. Who does like to talk about #1,(urself) lol.
#MasteryChat
A1: My favorite thing and the start of getting to know my kids is our Family Connection Meeting at the start of the year. Having dedicated time to just talk to families and my student 1:1 is THE BEST way to start my year. #MasteryChat
Q1: Legit relationships require intentional effort to meet others where they are. Describe ways you locate the coordinates of your students to build a relationship. #MasteryChat
A1 Start w/a smile & warm greeting Ss will share w/you if you seem approachable From there its trying to learn about their non-school life Ss love it when we take interest after 3pm #MasteryChat
Q1: Legit relationships require intentional effort to meet others where they are. Describe ways you locate the coordinates of your students to build a relationship. #MasteryChat
A1: I work to really get to know them, see them for who they are and who they are growing into. I also reflect on my behavior toward them to make changes in myself because I might not be doing and giving what they need to grow. #MasteryChat
A1 Give them the space to be themselves. There is not one path or one "right way" Help them discover what their best selves are by listening first. #masterychat
A1: great opening question!! I try to use as many different types of activities at the beginning of the school year to give Ss different areas to thrive. I also love student reflection pieces throughout the year to learn what’s working. #MasteryChat
#MasteryChat A1-I teach middle school, so I have to live at the intersection of self-deprecation and ridiculousness at all times. Also, being overly positive really puts them off guard - they aren't expecting it and it becomes a running joke but also creates a great environment.
A1 I always try to meet kids where they are. I spend time learning about their passions and talking to them daily. I try to include their life in our daily learning. Next year: getting each student to teach me about their passion. Time for me to learn how to... #MasteryChat
Q1: Legit relationships require intentional effort to meet others where they are. Describe ways you locate the coordinates of your students to build a relationship. #MasteryChat
Kristen from PA. I teach 6th grade physical science. And I have so much going on in my mind that I can’t remember the simple things like which comes first, #waledchat or #masterychat
A1 I create opportunities for students to interact, fun activities, icebreakers, small groups, and I make time to interact every day, from day 1, relationships are the key! #masterychat
A1 - Talking to them. I saw a tweet about saying students' names each day and I have been conscious of how many times I say a student's name this week to see if it improved relationships, and it has. Just making things personalized and asking students questions. #masterychat
A1: Open doors. I loved having any and all students for lunch. On any given day, more than 15 students would come hang out. it was a great way to see them in a different light. #masterychat
A1: My coordinates are always in the cafeteria. I like to join students for lunch or breakfast and start a dialog about something other than school. Students enjoy it when I join them. #MasteryChat
A1 Talking to them, listening to understand (as my buddy @NowakRo would say),showing empathy, giving a little grace, just all around letting them know they are valued! #masterychat
A1: Speak to them & truly listen. As a RS, I work with K-5th Ss so I’m fortunate to watch them grow in ES, I use that knowledge to strengthen relationships. When Ss are new, make it a point to introduce myself & learn an interest of theirs. #MasteryChat#LoveLiteracyLearning
A1 we need to know the Ss, I read in #LCInnovation, "See me, know me, grow me" and it is so true, I try to keep that in mind as well as Rita Pierson's message #masterychat
A1 I have conversations with my Ss about movies and books. They know about my 2 kids and that I am a huge Star Wars/comic fan. We connect over common interests. And of course I use Formative assessment to determine academic needs, but relationships come first #masterychat
A1 Chatting with them before class, during their work time, in the hallways between classes. Getting to know them and letting them know me! #masterychat
A1. Making those all-important connections is hard. But be sure to connect with "those" kids. They need you too. It easy to connect with the "good" kids. Make time to talk with the kids. LET THEM TALK! #masterychat
A1: Morning meetings, intentional getting to know them in many areas(fears, family, friends, etc); go to watch/ support their out of school activities; acknowledge mood/zone and help support,soothe/comfort/problem-solve/give space as needed. #masterychat
A1a The first thing as far as activities is a unsolvable mystery to get them hooked into sci process Then we can continue to build relationship thru learning together #masterychat
A1: Conversations and more conversations. If Ss are excited, be excited with and for them. If Ss are needing support get serious about giving them what they need. Care & consideration will open the floodgates for growth - academically and interpersonally. #masterychat
A1. Learn about them from the beginning. their likes, dislikes, interests, families, activities, pets, what stories they like to share, music, dancing, activities. See how you can relate this info. to real world prob. solving, exp., act., proj. #masterychat
A1: Hallway chats, eating in the cafeteria everyday, spending time during class talking. I've literally sat on the floor with a student who was upset in the hall just so she would open up about what was said to her and why it hurt her. Got to meet them where they r #masterychat
A1: By talking to them 1 on 1 and asking them questions that aren’t always the norm. By paying attention to what they write about and what they talk about. By being honest with them and treating them with respect. #masterychat
Q1: Legit relationships require intentional effort to meet others where they are. Describe ways you locate the coordinates of your students to build a relationship. #MasteryChat
A1: I’m a relationship ninja. The SS that give the other ts the worst time are some of my best. You have to know your students on a personal level!! #MasteryChat
A1 I really like that I got rid of the rows, use stations sometimes, or just move around and have time to talk with each student and group, during each class #masterychat
#masterychat A1 A secret to my relationships is I take my 1st rule "Always Believe In Yourself" to the kids activities. I produce GRHS Friday Night Lights which showcases the kids involved in high school football each week. Spreading my mission to the community! #AlwaysBelieve
✨A1: It's great to attend extra-curricular and community events, but relationships can be built in the classroom if you're all in! When you jump in an learn with your students, you both learn so much more than the content!✨
#MasteryChat#TLAP@burgessdave
A1: I grade most of their work with them right next to me in conferences that I have with them during and after every unit.I design my lessons to include time to meet with each student to check in with them on their work and attitude and make action plans to improve. #MasteryChat
That was me, I reflected, said it out loud, made a change and "magically" the Ss and my releationship changed! Realizing it always them, that sometimes it is us makes a world of difference. #MasteryChat
A1 Give them the space to be themselves. There is not one path or one "right way" Help them discover what their best selves are by listening first. #masterychat
A1 Talk & play w them. I take time to talk to classes when I sense something is up. Also, we had field day on Tues and I had so much fun playing volleyball, kickball, & capture the flag w/ them. We all saw diff sides of each other that day! #masterychat
A1: Phone call to introduce myself before school ever starts. Regular contact with families. Going to extra-curricular activities. Building those important relationships. #masterychat
A1:I don’t grow up in that I still laugh at what they think is funny. I like to hear their stories. I play with fidget spinners and slime and am going to try fortnite just to see what it’s like!!! #masterychat
A1: I'm a 40 year old kid lol. I try to stay up to date with current things. I talk to them and try to make them laugh in class. If kids are having fun, they retain a lot. #MasteryChat
A1. Talk to the kids in the hallways or before and after school. Go eat lunch with the kids. Whatever it takes. Let them know you are there! #masterychat
Yes. Sometimes it is as simple as having the student invite the teacher. It means so much to educators when students reach out to invite them to an event. Otherwise, it may slip their minds! Need to be better on both fronts I guess #masterychat
THIS.... Meet the students where they are at and open the "floodgates for growth." Strong relationships AND a powerful culture of learning feed each other. #MasteryChat
A2 Be real. Be you. Share things with your Ss. Give them a glimpse into your world. Talk to them about the things you like, what you like to do for fun, what's important to you. Be honest. #masterychat
A2: Vulnerability... let them in your world! Create opportunities to learn with you, not just from you. Laugh, cry, and connect to what fuels each moment within your class family. #LEGITRelationships#Nan3EDU#MasteryChat
A2 I always make sure students know how to get in touch with me. From email, to apps such as Remind, to Google, to being everywhere in school. I try to be present as much as possible for students. They know they are see, heard & that they matter! #MasteryChat
A2: Today was our last day with SS. I got some of the biggest hugs from SS I don’t have in my classroom, that does not mean I don’t teach them. #MasteryChat
A2: As a first year teacher, it is easy to have your guard up, but I want to be as open as possible with my Ss and let them know that I will always be there for them through thick and thin. Thinking back to my MS years, teachers like @Sra_Shalash made a difference. #masterychat
A2 - Be honest, and sincere with them. More than anything be explicit about how their behavior, actions or performance is being perceived by you. Often times students don’t understand how their actions affect others. Make this explicit and facilitate the discussion #masterychat
A1: My assigned duty post is right outside of the cafeteria. I am the first person they see in the morning, and the one who thanks them for coming to school each day before they leave. Conversations are always happening when you are in a regular spot. #masterychat
Q1: Legit relationships require intentional effort to meet others where they are. Describe ways you locate the coordinates of your students to build a relationship. #MasteryChat
"Torn between two chats feeling like a fool." Does anyone have this problem? I want to attend two chats at the same time to support my PLN friends but I can't tweet fast enough to keep up. #masterychat#teachmindful
A2 Be authentic and share things with Ss organically. At this point of the year, Ss know that I love flamingos, 80's pop music, coffee and a probably 1000 little things. Relationships are built on the small things that connect us. #masterychat
A2: I give staff MANY ways to connect with me. Before, during, after school, weekends, summer, 1 on 1, small group, text, hangout, phone...I would reply to smoke signals if they tried. #masterychat
A2: My door is always open and at times I have students literally lining up to want to talk to me. Sometimes I have to rely on our counselor to help me with some students. The other place is cafeteria. #MasteryChat
#MasteryChat A2-I like this question! I often mention the time machine I'm building in my basement, so if a student wants to have a real discussion about time travel movies or the feasibility of time travel, that's the way to my heart. Oh yeah, and bringing me @cheezit as well.
A2: being myself! Being transparent. Telling Ss my story, my likes and dislikes... create connections
I want them to know as much about me than I know about them🌟🌺
#masterychat
Share! Find an interest you and your students have in common! Sometimes it is as easy as a sports team or family model. Other times it's as simple as both agreeing a smile makes you light up inside! #masterychat
A2 Great question ❤️ I expect students to say hello when they come in, respect others and our classroom. Those are a great starting points to building a relationship with me. However, those expectations are sometimes a work in progress 😀 #masterychat
A2: Using the @SaraKAhmed model, we do identify mapping at the beginning of the year and I do my own first to model what it looks like. I love when they’re surprised I’m a real person. #MasteryChat
A2: I have lots of travel guides in my room. Posters for the Steelers, Star Wars, and Doctor Who. Star Wars bobbleheads. Posters of my favorite historical figures. And... the classic... TALKING #masterychat
A1 - A strategy I used during Advisory was ask if they had the ability to study 1 thing at school, what would it be. I then have them find a book about that topic. It starts conversations and builds relationships b/c they feel heard and appreciated #Masterychat
A2: My kids learn pretty quickly that I'm a HUGE Disney nerd and for some that helps them get to know me. I also have some photos of my family and friends up in the room and they tend to ask me questions (that I'll always answer) #masterychat
A2: I make myself available to them to talk to and try my hardest to give them my full attention. I share ridiculous stories from my childhood and life lessons. I am honest with them and I also talk about random things that pop into my head. I am there for them! #MasteryChat
A2: My Ss know I’m available when needed. They come to see me 1st thing in the am, when they walk by the room, & before they leave each day. Not a week goes by that I don’t have lunch bunch we sit, talk, eat, get to know each other better. #MasteryChat#LoveLiteracyLearning
A2. My kids know that the Bandroom is home base! They can come it at any time. I tell them that from day 1. And the other teachers in the building know that! #MasteryChat
A2 I am authentic with my students. They know about my family, my passions, my energy. They know all the quirks that can help build great relationships. It is about being REAL. Just like my friend @TaraMartinEDU would say. #MasteryChat
A2: I an honest with them, I laugh & cry w/ them. I let them see and tell them when I make a mistake. We joke around. While my group time is fast & busy, they can relax & just be a bit more in my room. #MasteryChat
A2 I have gotten better at this the past 4 years, they know that they can come in at any time, I try to be available and hope they know that I will support them, can also reach me through @edmodo@RemindHQ@voxer email, #masterychat
In reply to
@nankr1120, @edmodo, @RemindHQ, @voxer
A2: they know my kids and my wife and my history. I let them into my life. If they feel connected, it makes them feel valued. Plus it gives us something to talk about. My life's an open book. #MasteryChat
Welcome! Please introduce yourself, tell us your role, and where you are from. Share one thing that is important to you that you want others to know. We will follow Q1/A1 format tonight #MasteryChat
A1: I like to make room during every class for students to be working on something. Then I go around and sit with them when I ask if they need help or have questions. Being at their level makes them more comfortable to chat and share #MasteryChat
A1 Ask them questions to find out what they are interested in. From that information make connections. So many students have interests that mirrow ours but often won't share unless asked. Share common experiences to build relationships. #masterychat
A2 Let Ss know about your likes and dislikes. Talk about your family, pets, etc. Let them know your pet peeves and if you're having a bad day (don't go into details but let them know you trust them enough to let them into your world) #masterychat
Yes that's like I make tons of references to my favorite places to eat. When I say to my students "Guess where I ate last night!" They respond "BWWs, Chipotle, Starbucks, Romas!" And they are almost always right! #masterychat
A2: I share in our morning meetings as well; my S's know about my family(my dad volunteers in my class and is known as Papa Joe),my likes and dislikes; and my dog(his picture is always my screen saver.
#MasteryChat
Yes! Love that word, and today was a day of laughing, "eye sweating", and connecting with our class and other Ts, one of the best days yet #masterychat
A2 Share with your Ss. You are together for a year make real connections. I send out a letter in August- it has some basic info about me (favorite color, food, restaurant , movie and family info) I also have a QR code with a link to me reading a story #masterychat
Agreed! Share with them! Tell them what makes you laugh, what your passionate about, what you thought you’d be when you grew up. Connect!!! #MasteryChat
A2: being myself! Being transparent. Telling Ss my story, my likes and dislikes... create connections
I want them to know as much about me than I know about them🌟🌺
#masterychat
A2: Show student that you are a REAL person and have felt all the emotions they do-again back to those conversations. Be available for them at all times.. keep the door open and the ears ready. Be present in all areas of their school experience. #masterychat
A2 I never lie to them. I let them know when I have made a mistake and I ask for their forgiveness. Honestyand respect are my cornerstones #masterychat
A2: 1. Say hello to me. Laugh with me. Done be too cool for school. Give me constructive feedback. Give me grace. Instead of talking about me, talk to me. Try. Ask me for help and use me as a resource. #masterychat
Definitely, and I had to use rows for the state testing, and it was AWFUL! Even the Ss came in and said what was up and could they please move the desks back :) #masterychat
Yes! When my Ss come in my room, one student would say, “it smells like coffee here”
Another student would say, “of course, Mrs. Francis loves coffee!” 😂💕☕️ #masterychat
They need to see you are human. They need to know you care. You have to open the door, some need more grace than others. They will act out. Allow tons of grace. Continuously redirecting is not being taken advantage of. It’s using patience to your advantage. #masterychat
A1- I take time to talk to my Kinders about nonschool topics anytime we have down time. I eat lunch with the kiddos too so they can relax and chat about what is important to them #MasteryChat
Q1: Legit relationships require intentional effort to meet others where they are. Describe ways you locate the coordinates of your students to build a relationship. #MasteryChat
A2: Transparency is key. I don't hold back who I am. They know my likes and dislikes. They know what is going on in my world. They also like to hear about the trouble our kids at home are currently getting into. #masterychat
A2 I have a life size @Cardboard_Keith Urban in my class...subtle hint as to my interests. He participates in lessons and a student recently created a Twitter account for him. They are after my heart as I am after theirs :)#masterychat
A2 - I'm quirky and use non-traditional methods of teaching (might be channeling my inner @BillNye) so my Ss ask questions to better understand my approach, then ask why or where my approach comes from. It breaks the ice and hopefully makes them laugh #MasteryChat
A2 - Be honest, and sincere with them. More than anything be explicit about how their behavior, actions or performance is being perceived by you. Often times students don’t understand how their actions affect others. Make this explicit and facilitate the discussion #masterychat
Mine know a lot about me, I was not always open to sharing, but we need the connections, authentic experiences for more learning and classroom culture #masterychat
A2 I am very transparent with kids! They know about my family and my life, they know about my hobbies and the expectations that I set for my own children! Ss know they can always find me in the am at the intersection for hugs& high fives and my office door is open #masterychat
A2b My students know what I do on the weekends, hobbies and things I'm passionate about. We talk for a few minutes as a whole group at the beginning of our day #masterychat
A2b: Writing workshop is where a lot of my crazy stories come out as well. Almost everyone has heard the story of the squirrel that landed on me when I threw trash in the dumpster 😂 #MasteryChat
A2- I am open and honest w/them. I share during our morning meeting just like they do. I also share my feelings-happy, sad, frustrated, everything! #MasteryChat
A2: Great Qs. Much of the chat tonight starts and build relationships. Very important indeed - yet do these relationship "points" sustain the S/T relationship? To sustain the coordinates for Q1 and Q2 it must lead back to a strong culture of learning for ALL. #masterychat
A2: My students know they can contact me anytime. One of my favorite ways to bond is through our class Instagram. There are times when I will go LIVE on a story to do tutorials with students. #MasteryChat
I'm Naomi from Toronto. I'm an independent educational coach and technology integrator. I'm passionate about using tech tools to enhance learning & teaching, for my clients as well as my own kids! #MasteryChat
Absolutely. If I want Ss to open up to me I need to open up to them. The outgoing class of 8th graders wrote odes to their Ts at the end of the yr, and one thing they said the liked about me was that I was "real" with them when I had something on my mind #masterychat
A3 If you have authentic relationships with your Ss, they will know how much you care about them and they will want to honor the faith you put in them. For the most part they will give you their best! #masterychat
A3: Trust opens doors to L.E.G.I.T. learning. When a student feels trusted to make choices in their learning they are #empowered to create their own journey. Students' passions and interests fuel the spark that you light in learning! #Nan3EDU#MasteryChat
A3 I had a S that got kicked out of every class. After building a relationship & letting him work at his own pace w/ @thegridmethod he began to thrive. Bc he trusted me & he was able to get the support he needed. Video of me telling the story: https://t.co/8KBsfQ3CLa#masterychat
So funny they love to know how we respond to our own kids! I always share my expectations for my personal kids and make the connections btwn those high expectations and how I believe in them and love them... just like my Ss! #masterychat#champforkids
A3-we’ve been talking about health and fitness as my goal and that of several https://t.co/5jJMRjorQB we check in w/each other during lunch and morn meeting. The topic has begun showing up in writing, independent questions, math explorations. #MasteryChat
In my #TeachFurther classroom, students learn within Themed Internships. ALL of our Local Business Sponsors are selected through student interests! This allows our relationships to foster authentic learning opportunities everyone has ownership in. #Masterychat
#MasteryChat A3-By embracing the ridiculousness and not taking ourselves too seriously, we can break through a lot of the anxiety that the Ss bring into math class in middle school. We are all weird, crazy, and make mistakes - we are in this together!
A3: they trust me enough to ask silly questions. I love hearing, "We got Mr. Wood, let's go!" They know learning is common place in my class. #MasteryChat
A3 It creates a safe space for all to learn When Ss feel safe they take risks I've seen this so many times this year. That quiet S out of the blue, took a risk That was cool! #MasteryChat
A3 I think because we know each other very well, we trust each other. Students feel safe to learn and make mistakes because I do. We teach each other frequently #masterychat
A3 They allow each of us to set our expectations for one another and to let each other know if we are having trouble. They also allow us to have fun in class! I love attendance questions that make them think and be silly at the same time #masterychat
A2a - I also make coffee or grab fruit or one of the grab and go breakfasts from cafeteria. Ss like to come up and have a quiet space where they can ease their way into the day too. Breaking bread has always been a strategy that has worked for me #Masterychat
A2: Most of my students know my coordinates: country music, dogs, memes, and food 😂I'm also open and honest about my vulnerabilities/weak spots. #masterychat
A3: As an instructional coach (not an admin who evaluated) I need that trust so they can be open with me. I ❤️ co-teaching and working side-by-side with them. That requires trust. #masterychat
I reach out to them preemptively when I see them struggling. They have to know we really care. I allow them to have a life outside of school. And if that life runs into our classroom, then we deal with it. #MasteryChat
Q1 / A1 Not being in the classroom anymore makes relationships a bit different. I am always there for my students, and let them know, as well as treating them like their ideas and opinions matter. And I cheer for them. #MasteryChat
A3: In order for students to apply their learning to the real world, we need to know what is REAL about their world. That requires relationships. #masterychat
A3. Tried some very personalized learning this year. They knew I wouldn’t let them flounder but I wouldn’t just give them the answers. They don’t feel as much pressure to “be perfect” and are more willing to step out of their comfort zone. #MasteryChat
A3 When students know you really care about them, its natural for them to want to impress you. They know you trust them to do the right thing and they want to reply the trust. And so academics, grades, relationships improve. #masterychat
Wow! This! Just had a private conversation today w/ a Ss and explained that what he was doing was disrespectful and he said, Mrs H I would not disrespect you! He didn’t see his behavior as disrespectful to me! We had a great chat! Tomorrow’s a new day! #masterychat#champforkids
A3 Relationships are the foundation for all learning. To have REAL, meaningful and purposeful learning we need to know about students and include them in the design process. Build on authenticity. Build on joy and happiness. Make an impact. #MasteryChat
A3: During student teaching, I would give high fives to my Ss. The students saw that I truly cared, and that enabled them to open up to me. Of course, I had room for improvement, but I got to build a positive relationship. #masterychat
A2. I used to create a class Facebook page so the students could help each other with homework as contact me if needed. I could monitor it easily too. #MasteryChat
A3: I reach out to them preemptively when I see them struggling. They have to know we really care. I allow them to have a life outside of school. And if that life runs into our classroom, then we deal with it. #MasteryChat
A3: Through relationships Ss listen & grow, you see them do what you have been helping them learn. They begin to advocate for themselves letting you know what they need to succeed. They find their voice & USE it! #MasteryChat
A3: Pass control to the students, empower them to guide instruction. Simple steps can lead to increased focus and dedication. If mistakes are made, we learn from themas a group, support their choices and reflect. #masterychat
A3 I use Remind a lot, not just to talk assignments, but to send Spanish memes, positive feedback to kids after a play or sporting event, or just to send a positive message. The other day a student said "I love your positive Reminds. You make me smile everyday :) #masterychat
A3. I had several Ss making up and revising this week. I allowed them to learn at their pace. They liked that i didn’t put a lot of pressure on them #MasteryChat
A3 - strong relationships allow me to meet Ss where they are. My #alted Ss often come with stressors from outside of school. When I see that, I have strong enough relationships with them to recognize when they need a moment. #MasteryChat
A3: I had many seniors in end of year surveys say that “I would of packed it in, but I didn’t want to let you down” #MasteryChat. They said because of how much I cared, they cared. I hope they know that they could never let me down. I’m just happy they cared #studentsarehuman
A3: When students trust you and relationships are built, you can do wonders. Students will rise to the challenge and level of expectation. Think “Jaime Escalante”. Students succeeded because of trust and a special bond between them and their teacher. #MasteryChat
A3: It is a circle knowing the students can help us plan - part of knowing is assessing together to show the success of student "knowing" and learning, including finding roadblocks to their learning - and breaking them - a circle that must lead to stronger learning.#MasteryChat
A3. Knowing areas of interest for Ss allows for moe engagement in learning. In STEM, Ss liked slime we did a comparison study of making slime vs. floam! Where they had to talk about sim. and diff. of each substance and why! #masterychat
A3: My students know that I care about their learning AND about who they are and who they become. One of my students shares my affinity for theatre. She brings me playbills from plays she goes to and is joining my London Theater trip in 2019 after she graduates. #MasteryChat
#masterychat A2 My room is decorated with Ss pictures and pictures with my phrases on it. This helps the kids know who I am. Tomorrow the Ss have a chance to win these posters! They are so excited!
A3: My SS know that I love to talk about current events, so they try to “waste time” with questions. I most of the time can turn it back to our standard and the shout, “Dang, Mr. Kaplan taught us something again!” #win#MasteryChat
Q3: students are more willing to take risks in their learning. I gave them an opportunity to try #sketchnotes after showing them my feeble attempt and I had one student light up and say she has never understood the content until she drew it out #masterychat
A3: ✨BE GENUINLY INTERESTED and then #MakeItReal. Take every opportunity to bring students interests, passions, and pop culture into the classroom. We've also had so much fun with #EduGIFs, #BookSnaps, and #FlipGrid this year, students speak those "languages"!✨#MasteryChat
A3b An example of this happened yesterday, I went with 3 of my students to check out the park we planned to use for a picnic. Today during recess 1 of them came and said she was gonna spend her recess w/ me because she appreciated me taking time out to go with them #masterychat
#MasteryChat A2. I am strict ,they know why. When I am not fair ...it shows on their face ..and then I explain the reason of my action or words.i take them through.a lot of them a scared of me but most know that discipline is in my blood...they have learnt to accept :-)
#masterychat A3 This is my flowchart of building relationships. When this is done with LOVE! you classroom becomes dynamic. Learning becomes intrinsic.
A4: I share a lot of my ideas with students and bounce ideas off of them. I mean no one knows them better than them, so might as well check with the experts! I have a few tech ideas I want to try next year that the students thought sounded pretty cool! :D #masterychat
A4 talk w/Ss about your goals; writing a book, getting a degree, leading PD Include them in your professional plans so they know you are a #LifeLongLearner#MasteryChat
A3: I work with some 4th/5th graders that struggled with reading. They come to me and ask to borrow my books, request to do lunchtime bookclubs, and have shown a love for reading that makes my heart happy. #MasteryChat#LoveLiteracyLearning
Saw a student sketching in a notebook one day at lunch. I encouraged her to demonstrate understanding in her next class through sketches. She responded, "I can do that?!" My response, "Why not?!" #masterychat
A4 I am working really hard to improve my #edtech game. I have asked for their feedback and made changes based on it. My teaching has really improved since I started have them help me be better! #masterychat
A3 right now in 5th grade kids are creating scientific method remix songs! By developing relationships, knowing their learning preferences and allowing lots of voice, choice, and creativity the Ss feel safe to put themselves out there! The songs are amazing #masterychat
A4: When I ready about minority students feeling isolated, unwelcomed, and disconnected to their schools, it's heartbreaking. I want to learn more about bridging that divide. #masterychat
A4 A better me means more patience and getting out of my own head -- staying present in the moment and recognizing thatI only have these kids for 45-90 minutes. I have to make the most of it! #masterychat
A4 My Ss know that I am always learning. I have been working hard to authentically add tech to my class. That has meant going out of my comfort zone lot of the time. Lots of new resources to learn #masterychat
A4) We share what life can be, versus what it us today stories. We have talked about they can become whatever they want as long as they try. #masterychat
A4: I tell them all the time when I’m trying something new and I ask them to help me. Ss like to teach us as much as we like to teach them. #MasteryChat
A3: Strong relationships are so helpful when my kids are having a bad day or a bad moment. They know I'm in their corner (even when they make mistakes...well...especially when they make mistakes) #masterychat
They see the books I have out on my desk that I am working on reading (slowly) and ask what I am reading. I tell them it’s so I can improve my teaching game. They appreciate that I don’t want to necessarily be the same teacher all the time, that I want to be better. #MasteryChat
A4: my Ss know I'm always trying to get certifications or degrees or something. I tell them to not stop learning. They ask me for updates. We are in it together. I think I'm borrowing @techcoachjuarez idea and making a student program. #MasteryChat
A4 Someone who doesn't wait so long to put a plan into action, sometimes I need to be more patient, being open with them, I have shared some of my planning mishaps, own it and grow from it #masterychat
A4 - A better me has more patience, stays calm and has the strength to give students a new chance every single day. A better me is always focused on improving any way I can to reach more students. #teachbetter#masterychat
A4: I’m always sharing with my Ss what my dreams and goals are. They then ask me about those and I find myself working hard so that I can make them proud. I want my Ss to see that learning never stops and that we don’t give up, ever! #MasteryChat#LoveLiteracyLearning
A4: Everytime i finish a book, a workshop or if I’m invited to keynote or any other presentation, I share it with my students so they know that I’m still learning. I want them to be inspired and to continue fighting the good fight in EDUCATION
#masterychat
A4 A better me includes transforming the learning experience. It is being a trailblazer, challenging the status quo, being the "lone nut" leader that does not take no for an answer. Some BIG projects in store for this coming year. I'm excited. #MasteryChat
A4 A better me is a Learning me. I'm always learning new skills particularly with tech and I talk to the kids about things I'm learning or want to learn. I tell them teachers have to learn too 😀 #masterychat
A4: I would like to spend more time in the classrooms and engaging students during lessons. Unfortunately as a principal, time is limited. Perhaps better use of my time. #MasteryChat
#MasteryChat A4-I just recently changed my practice so that I'm not teaching in front of the whole class. I teach from self-paced playlists now. My Ss were game for trying something new and followed me the whole way. They provided feedback and I responded to their suggestions.
A4- I share so many of my aspirations with my kids- fitness goals, education goals, reading goals. We have time built into the day just for communit building. Always looking to hit the Maslow before Blooms! #MasteryChat
A4)A better me has more energy. I've worked on this so much and have more energy than every before due to diet/lifestyle changes. However, there's room to increase my energy still. Oh, and a better me drinks more water as well. #MasteryChat
A4: Drop the guard and ask Ss how to make the classroom the best it can be. Set goals together and jump into it. Going through the process of change together builds a true team. #masterychat
#masterychat A4 My lofty goal every year is for my Ss to describe me with the fruits of the spirit. NOW MORE THAN EVER our Ss need to HEAR and SEE their Trs WALK THE TALK! Role model! #ItWorks Powerful parent letter attached. #AlwaysBelieve
A4 - I LOVE THIS QUESTION!!!! My ##alted#PBL Ss are creating a "build a better you" project for next year. The goal is to address an educational, health or social issue of their own. Project goal is to turn their challenges into growth opportunities #MasteryChat
A4: Becoming more trauma-informed/trauma-responsive, which will enable me to meet my little people where they are and help them to learn self-regulation strategies. #masterychat
A4: I share with my Ss that I am always learning just like them. I don't know everything and I have to keep reading and doing to get better just like them. #MasteryChat
A4: I want them to take risks and make mistakes so I often share when I mess up and how I got over it. I need to make mistakes and do "scary things" to grow...I want them to try too! (Except swimming...that's too scary ;) ) #masterychat
I ❤ sharing my professional and educational visions with my students. Emphasizing the #growthmindset by sharing the joy of learning and achieving the daily opportunities to reach closer to our ambitions is truly priceless! #masterychat
A4: going in as a first year teacher, I will be open and honest with my students about how much I will learn and grow, along with them. We will celebrate our accomplishments and learn from our failures, together! #MasteryChat
A4: A better me realizes that it is ok to fail. It goes back to relationships... draw on those relationships to encourage them when they are frustrated. #masterychat
A4: Living life boldly. In Drama, we push our students to operate above the traditional middle school kid. Excellence is our standard in all that we do. Why should it not be for ourselves? #MasteryChat
A1: Relationship building goes beyond a few expected icebreaker activities at the beginning of the school year. Consistently speaking to, authentically listening, and engaging with students constantly within the classroom does volumes. #MasteryChat
Q1: Legit relationships require intentional effort to meet others where they are. Describe ways you locate the coordinates of your students to build a relationship. #MasteryChat
That's awesome. Our faith formation program uses fruits of the spirit as how we shoudl model our behavior as a school. It has really changed our school culture! @AtchisonSbcs#sbsrocks#masterychat
RT Yes, this is so true, I try and need to try even more, we did #booksnaps this year and @Flipgrid and I definitely need to do the #EduGIFs with them, it is on my list, thank you :) #masterychat
A1: I engage with them in whole group, small group, and one on one. I employ assignments (such as writing) that require the student to show me who they are. I use all that I gather from observations and interactions to decide how to build a relationship with them. #masterychat
A4: ✨LET'S CELEBRATE! Too often we are full speed ahead and on to the next thing, but it's important to slow down, take time to enjoy each other, and celebrate our successes!✨#MasteryChat
A3 here is one of my favorite groups of risk takers! We have grown and learned so much in robotics! They are so independent and just a joy to work alongside! #masterychat
#MasteryChat A4. Better me is someone less reactive. And my students know that , I accept my mistakes ,I will always apologize to them if I am in the wrong .
Love this! In elementary, when my son absolutely refused to write post-it notes about his reading, I had him bring in the elaborate charts he had had made at home about characters, societal structure & maps he drew "process" his reading. The teacher nearly fell over. #masterychat
BAM. And the goal must be finding ways of supporting learning for ALL. Looking back at Ss I had great relationships with and STILL failed in school-wish I had done more. Relationship are powerful-but unless we engage students in serious learning have we failed? #MasteryChat
A4: I want to have a #pbl for each unit, I want to improve parent communication, create stations for al units (I did it for most of them) and do #geniushour! I also have a lot of work to do to make my @STEAM club work!!! #masterychat
Absolutely! And watching an invested adult work toward goals- seeing the struggle, the modifications, the failures and successes- that lays the foundation for #growthmindset#grit#determination , all the traits I want to see more of in the world! #BeTheChange#MasteryChat
A1: I recognize that knowing my students’ experiences and background is the key to effective teaching. I build relationships with their parents to find ways to develop strong relationships with my students. #masterychat
A4: My Ss hear all about my doctorate program/ process... I share what I learn at conferences/ PD... basically model that learning is continuous... I love that they see me as a student, too...a way to motivate and inspire! #masterychat
So sorry...late to the chat! Maureen, instructional supervisor from NJ
A4: Continuing to grow as a leader, supporting staff through my continued learning; alway setting goals #masterychat
A4:A better me is someone who can balance work and self-care.I am struggling with that because there are so many amazing opportunities to grow as an educator, and I want to do them all! I share the opportunities I have taken and I hope it inspires them to do the same.#MasteryChat
A4 after 28 years in education I just picked up AP Spanish for the first year. It was like going back to school myself. We wrestled with the curriculum together and prepared for the exam as a team. They know how important lifelong learning is for me. #masterychat
A4b. I tell them at some point they will be research subjects because I will be trying new lessons, methods, labs, videos, project ideas at some point during the year. #MasteryChat
Q4: #masterychat
I always tell my S's when I've made a mistake; I apologize when I'm wrong; I tell them when I don't know&tell them we'll find out together. There are always be ways to grow&do better. My S's also get to give me a report card on my teaching.
Allow your students to really engage and take ownership over that content, by feeling like what they’re doing is attractive to see. https://t.co/rfLo9VfPjQ#masterychat
A4 ask for feedbackfrom Ss and actually listen! I ask Ss what went well and what they wish I had done! I ask what processes or products they think kids would like better! They are always happy to share! #masterychat
A4 I think being a better me means improving myself, whether that means reading or traveling to new places. I share w/ my Ss what I learn from books, workshops, etc. and integrate pics from places I visit & talk about how I've grown from all of those experiences #masterychat
A4 after 28 years in education I just picked up AP Spanish for the first year. It was like going back to school myself. We wrestled with the curriculum together and prepared for the exam as a team. They know how important lifelong learning is for me. #masterychat
#masterychat When you build your classroom management through the fruits of the spirit, your room becomes a beacon of #JOY This is part of my book, The Srory of Always Believe coming out this fall!
✨A3: BE GENUINELY INTERESTED and then #MakeItReal. Take every opportunity to bring students interests, passions, and pop culture into the classroom. We've also had so much fun with #EduGIFs, #BookSnaps, and #FlipGrid this year, students speak those "languages"!✨#MasteryChat
A3. Being real, present and having a family atmosphere with each other and me in my classroom! These are my kids and I love spending time with them and also seeing their passions outside classroom walls;) #MasteryChat
Q4 I select one personal goal and make it visible for the students. It’s broken down into small steps and has a projected due date. The students follow along with my progress. #masterychat
A5: Run a Google Classroom for Ts to share interesting blogs, thoughts, & ideas. Hold an article of the week club. Inspired by @RACzyz & #4OCF#masterychat
A5 - ummmm...#masterychat for sure! also keep positive people around you that believe ALL students want to learn. Surround yourself with positivity so you can create more yourself. #masterychat
Wow. Impressive! An AP class for the first time is a daunting undertaking. Kudos for not only teaching, but for being a lifelong learner, in addition. #masterychat
A5: Genuine enthusiasm. If I am not buying in, how can I expect others to believe? Also, once they are on board, we cannot abandon them. We need to run alongside of them. Together we go further. #masterychat
Sorry my wonderful #MasteryChat#PLN, I heard my kitten escape the dog door. I have to go find her and bring her back in the house. I'll catch up later. Silly kitten!
A5 #masterychat for sure. Going to conferences, offering support whenever possible by connecting on calls, video chats, etc. Always looking for ways we can work together to be better.
A5: Be the person that LISTENS- allow others to share their ideas! You have to know where they are before you can create opportunities for growth. Time spent w/others... coffee, breakfast, #Voxer, #TwitterChats, #PD Nurture bonds to meet others where they are at #MasteryChat
A5: I started blogging and podcasting (https://t.co/DacioI4EWA), participating in ed chats (special shout out to the #waledchat and #122edchat fams), and spending time helping empower my colleagues in the building! #masterychat
A5: I love to learn WITH my crew. It seems more genuine. I also have an amazing PLF #4OCFpln who I can be EXTREMELY honest with and I expect them to call me out if needed. #masterychat
A4. Take that leap - if I fail then I fail enthusiastically with my kids - continue a #growthmindset- know that every failure leads another open door of opportunity #MasteryChat
A5: The #4OCFPLN has completely changed my world as a teacher and how I put myself out there. I'm trying to share ideas with people in my building as I learn and read them but I've got room to grow! #masterychat
Q4 I select one personal goal and make it visible for the students. It’s broken down into small steps and has a projected due date. The students follow along with my progress. #masterychat
A5: I'm the tech guy at @westhillstigers. I keep my door open and I'm addicted to serving. Serving is awesome. Everyone feels great in the end. #MasteryChat
A5: Sharing my enthusiasm & passion for what I'm learning; connecting on Twitter & through Voxer book studies, EdCamps; making excitement for learning contagious! #masterychat
A5 Seeking out new experiences both in and out of district. Want to try to get to at least 1 conf next year to learn from others IRL! Twitter has helped build my confidence a lot. #masterychat
A5 Twitter has been one way I have been connecting and building my PLN. I also presented at school for the 1st time in Feb, based on the feedback from staff I set up additional drop in sessions weekly. #masterychat
Q5: #MasteryChat
We have collaboration time every week with our grade partners so it's a great opportunity to share and plan. We have a team Google Drive for our staff to share info./ideas.
A5 I talk to EVERYONE about what we do in class. Other students, teachers, people outside the school. I show my kids jsut how proud I am of them as much as I can! #masterychat
#masterychat A5 I am a people's person ...I do not dislodge trust and faith I have in people .Counting on every ones goodness keepe spurred ...I do get de motivated at times but my mentors at work see me through this..am very transparent ...that helps keep everyone connected.
I am very enthusiastic, it's contagious. I'm always willing to learn something new even if it will only benefit one child. I want them to be successful and happy #masterychat
A5 - I work with my colleagues to make sure sure we are collaborating AND we utilize our own #PLN to help authenticate our #alted#PBL units. Just brought in CEO of local chocolate company 4 #chocolatebarchallenge unit we just finished. Ss had to step up their game #Masterychat
A5 Its very important to surround yourself with those who have the same mindset as you do. I'm very glad I discovered #masterychat. It has really helped me a lot as I get a lot of awesome ideas on this platform.
A5: there is no me just we @PickAltSchool. We know if we are going to impact kids lives it takes a team effort. Everyone on the staff has their own special talents. Its letting those talents shine.
#MasteryChat
A5:I am trying to invite my colleagues at school to participate in learning through Twitter-chats, following people, etc. I am going to try to be better next year to utilize technology to connect educators in our building to share our expertise and be #BetterTogether#MasteryChat
A5: Be the person that LISTENS- allow others to share their ideas! You have to know where they are before you can create opportunities for growth. Time spent w/others... coffee, breakfast, #Voxer, #TwitterChats, #PD Nurture bonds to meet others where they are at #MasteryChat
A5 Step in when needed, I read in a book recently, "Lean in and Listen", support each other and keep making new connections, spread the positivity, have fun, interact with and smile with everyone :) #masterychat
"Wins and Losses" It is a reflective podcast from my perspective as a middle school history teacher. https://t.co/QViBwqXvtC (also available on iTunes and Podcast Addict) #masterychat
A5 One of my best PD (learning together)experiences was learning to build websites, and this was back when it wasn't so intuitive! It was over the summer and the concentration was SO intense for long periods & then we'd break the silence with equally intense sharing. #masterychat
A5 I am a very shy person, but the best way to pull people in are personal invitations. Some Ts at @AtchisonSbcs have been so great about coming up w/ ways to collaborate together, so I'm taking their example & reaching out to them & our new Ts #masterychat
A5: Be a wealth of resources for others and your crew will “gain membership” exponentially. Create excitement about new ideas and practices. Be that helping hand when others needs it most. Follow through with co-planning! #masterychat
A5: I’m being moved to 8th grade next year. My new team is all in on using @thegridmethod after all the research I have done on mastery learning. So thankful for the help the #MasteryChat team has given me to try to get here.
A5: I love to learn WITH my crew. It seems more genuine. I also have an amazing PLF #4OCFpln who I can be EXTREMELY honest with and I expect them to call me out if needed. #masterychat
@nankr1120 A4: I just shared a letter of recommendation for my next #GOAL, becoming an @ncte Kent-Williamson Fellow, with my #students. We discussed and celebrated the value of hard work in striving towards accomplishing goals for L.E.G.I.T growth. #masterychat

✨A5: BIRDS OF A FEATHER FLOCK TOGETHER! I absolutely adore the friendships that I've built through chatting and connecting on Twitter! There are so many positive and incredibly brilliant educators who are doing amazing things for students!✨ #MasteryChat
"You have to know where they are before you can create opportunities for growth." Kristen Nan
I love this quote because it is absolutely true!! #MasteryChat
A5: Be the person that LISTENS- allow others to share their ideas! You have to know where they are before you can create opportunities for growth. Time spent w/others... coffee, breakfast, #Voxer, #TwitterChats, #PD Nurture bonds to meet others where they are at #MasteryChat
A5 I think being positive and proactive are very important. Surround yourselves with others of like mind. I work with a wonderful team of language teachers. We work and play simultaneously. Other departments are envious @loliveira55#masterychat
✨A5: BIRDS OF A FEATHER FLOCK TOGETHER! I absolutely adore the friendships that I've built through chatting and connecting on Twitter! There are so many positive and incredibly brilliant educators who are doing amazing things for students!✨ #MasteryChat
A5: Giirrrrrllll!! You and this chat! 😘 And I mean that, but also, I love learning from others. I’m shameless when it comes to following what a colleague or PLN member is doing and asking questions so I can adopt that practice! #MasteryChat
A5- I participate in Twitter chats, @voxer , @instagram , @facebook and any other groups I can find. I create book studies, hashtags, #coffeEdu , etc. while there I BUILD RELATIONSHIPS w/others! Same as I would in my classroom #MasteryChat
A5. My kids and I have been on an adventure to #mysteryskype with all 50 states- 3 more to go this week and next and have invited my PLN along - also others new to Skype. We also did a global weather project thru @Flipgrid and others joined;) #MasteryChat
A6 Next year I am working on getting my kids in on the #globalcollaborations Help them find their crew, their passion, their purpose. I want them to learn and make a difference in the world. I will help empower their voice in the world. #MasteryChat
#MasteryChat q6: I try to place kids in groups with kids I think will benefit them. Got quite the reaction from an autistic boy by placing him with my geeky, giggly duo. He is so much more open now.
A6 Teach them to love collaboration and team work. Work w/them on building relationships and building their network. Educate them on social media and how to be safe while still expanding their connections. #masterychat
A6: Empower your Students with Permission! Opportunities for collaboration beyond their 4 walls is at their fingertips... say YES! Class Social Media accounts build #EDUSLN (Student Learning Network) just as it does for Ts! #MasteryChat
#masterychat A6-I coach after school activities - robotics team, chess team, cross country team. I think that extra curricular activities are really where Ss find their tribe. Especially the chess team and robotics team. These are great places to nerd out without judgement.
A6: Ss should see teachers modeling exceptional uses of digital PLNs. Educational or learning use is far different than social use. Ss can benefit in many of the same ways Ts do.
#masterychat
My seniors will be thrown in this soon. With a few they have expressed concern about going away to college or knowing anyone. We talked about authentic versus fair weather relationships. I use examples from my own experience. #MasteryChat
A6: If you are using communication and collaboration effectively in the classroom, “crews” will happen. Kids (and staff) will build those learning communities naturally. #masterychat
A6) I suggest they find those kids that spend time alone. We all have issues and feel lonely at times. It takes being a friend to have a friend. #masterychat
A6: Within the classroom Ts and Ss should collaborate, learn, and grow together. A learning community should be the term that fits more than classroom...
#MasteryChat
A6 We've done a few global collaborations this year and we are revisiting our friends soon, we have set up a #GridPal to communicate on a regular basis about SDG. Work 😀 #masterychat
A6 Creating opportunities for students to collaborate around something truly meaningful and purposeful allows for bonding to occur that will likely extend beyond the classroom. The goal is to foster that authentic interaction and help them put that energy to good use #masterychat
A6 - I use the @DonWettrick trick of creating appropriate social media accounts to help build their team. My #alted#PBL Ss have a lot to say about the world around them. Build you crew by voicing your opinion appropriately; the crew will come #MasteryChat
#masterychat A6 The greatest way for our Ss to learn how to be proper human beings is to ROLE MODEL it! Boils down to having your Ss describe your words and actions with the Fruits of the Spirit. #AlwaysBelieve
A6 It comes down to the relationships you build as a class. Ss need to know how to be kind, disagree respectfully and stand up for themselves and their beliefs without hurting others. This is a challenge with 6 year olds. We work on finding common interests first. #masterychat
A6 Encourage them to question everything, even when it gets exhausting for me 🤣 Critical thinking and creativity will always be needed, migth as well help them do it effectively! #masterychat
A6: Foster an environment for structured social opportunities. Take moments to teach those important “soft skills” necessary for success throughout life. Be a mentor and an advisor #masterychat
This is so important, especially co-planning. Educators are often very insecure about our work - we do come under attack occasionally. Yet despite this teachers are doing incredible work - acknowledged it and celebrate. #MasteryChat
A6: have worked in environments where u seriously see the most unlikely pairings such as the star athlete & the punk rock kid forge a friendship cuz we build in social activities that allow them to interact w/peers. Lots of ice breakers that forge bonds. #SquadGoals#MasteryChat
A5: I consistently invite my PLC to join me in activities in and out of the school setting, and I invited colleagues to join me in a book club over the summer. #MasteryChat
I think you can help them by promoting connections with other classes, even in other schools/districts/cities/countries. I also think it's essential to teach them online citizenship, so they use technology responsibly. #masterychat
A6: Provide Ss for opportunities to collaborate with a variety of Ss & learning styles. This can happen in morning meetings, team building, & class building opportunities. Ts should pair Ss up that will work well & learn from each other. #MasteryChat#LoveLiteracyLearning
A6: #MasteryChat I have told the girl leading this chant from day 1 she could be a leader. I challenged her to prove it to me that she is one now on field day. This is what she did.
My seniors will be thrown in this soon. With a few they have expressed concern about going away to college or knowing anyone. We talked about authentic versus fair weather relationships. I use examples from my own experience. #MasteryChat

A6 My favorite example of the type of purposeful interaction that engages students in a hands-on way with their community if, of course, the school newspaper or broadcast program. Students have fun, but take it seriously, with defined roles, expectations & outcomes #masterychat
A6: Teach real-world skills and why they are important. Tell your Ss what kind of people they need to surround themselves. You also need to model that. You also need to model that. #saidittwice#meantto#masterychat
A5: Kitten has been found. I started Twitter not knowing anything about all the wonderful people here. I have learned so much and have so manu people I can turn to when I need help. It is wonderful! Thanks everyone. #MasteryChat

A5: I am myself no matter where I am. I am transparent I will tell you what I do well and what I don’t. I think I am a person that people can go to and know that I won’t say no. When someone asks me to do something, I see it as a compliment. I am someone they trust. #masterychat
A6: Mystery Skypes have been amazing in the outside our four walls world, but also with my littles just teaching how to talk to people is so important for them in order to learn how to get and keep a crew. #masterychat
A7 - Building relationship starts with two very simple things TRUST and AUTHENTICITY. Be sincere and build trust with your students and quality lasting relationships will follow. #masterychat
