#wvedchat 1 thought for free b4 we start: I aim to put to rest the myth that won't exist n those represented by the chat, but no doubt it holds true to some outside of the chat: the tech we are seeing pushed into schools will in no way replace the teacher nor is it meant to.

#wvedchat A1 challenges many of the traditional notions of teacher and student, embraces the idea that technology has outsourced the master of content, cultivates a new set of skills over memorization and recall of content.

  • LScumpieru Sep 18 @ 8:12 PM EDT
Yes, recall is not the goal - cultivating skills and motivation is so important. Technology helps channel that through project-based learning. #wvedchat

#wvedchat A2 The very act of learning is no longer something teachers can "feed" to someone. It's not "fill me with as much knowledge as you possibly can in 180 days", rather it is "can you teach me how to find and apply the knowledge I need when I need it?" #netflixgeneration

A3: Ss engage in hands on learning with technology to enhance the learning. Example: Ss make a model of something, then use tech like @Seesaw or @Schoology to share knowledge. Put QR codes on model that goes to child’s video or audio explanation #wvedchat

I love Goformative, it's powerful. Wish you could assign lessons or assessments via a link. So many Ts get turned off having to add them to the class, etc. I know it's not a big deal, but that's the feedback I get. Too many management systems for some. #wvedchat

I think that it’s important to remind young teachers that it can take time to build those relationship you see veteran teachers have. Once you know your content and feel comfortable it’s easier to build those meaningful relationships all teachers seek #wvedchat

This is true. I think beginning teachers can build those relationships through activities learning about Ss. Relationships are important regardless of how many years you teach. Kids need to see the human that is teaching them. #wvedchat

It's a fine line. #wvedchat Because if new teachers or even veteran teachers don't invest in relationships in August, they'll be begging for snow days in January. Many, new or vet, don't know how. Going over the rules in the first week does nothing to develop relationships.

A5: The T becomes a facilitator of learning and gets to circulate and check for understanding and have real discussions with Ss to gauge learning. The T is more necessary in a technology laden classroom. They are the guide and observer. #shiftthis #wvedchat

  • Mr_Oldfield - Moderator Sep 18 @ 8:40 PM EDT
#wvedchat A5 I really find that teachers can't experience this vicariously, they need to see it and feel it. Hard to do in public ed. Many teachers go years w/o seeing a great Ts class.
  • joegonzalez88 Sep 18 @ 8:42 PM EDT
A5 personal application to individual Ss. No more 1 size fits all. Content can be delivered in multiple ways and reach many Ss who may not have a voice in the classroom. I love @nearpod and @Schoology for providing discussion options and instant feedback! #wvedchat
  • Mr_Oldfield - Moderator Sep 18 @ 8:42 PM EDT
#wvedchat A5... My catalyst was the moment I realized how inhuman I was (I also read Sal Khan's book The One World School House), standing in front of the class calling out answers to HW, watching my Ss write down notes, and punching in grades in a digital gradebook. #NOThuman
  • stowers_melissa Sep 18 @ 8:42 PM EDT
A5: you get to see their reflection of what they have learned to see if they have questions or need further instruction #wvedchat
  • LScumpieru Sep 18 @ 8:43 PM EDT
I would disagree a bit. I think it’s easy in public education: If Ts have the Ss learning with project-based learning and understanding a #growthmindset, Ss are more apt to flourish and learn. #wvedchat
