4th graders create totem poles so we discuss history, location, meaning

a1: I love doing the art of math - Ss are given a ruler, compass, and told to "draw something" but they have to use the tools as designed. Amazing work results!

A1: Art is my weakness, but so many of my Ss love it! I give lots of opportunity for them to show what they know using art. Just because I can't doesn't mean they shouldn't be able to.

In 5th grade we talked about the constellations & created our own

A1: Every now and then, I have my Ss create a colorful flipbook for their math skills. I don't incorporate it as much as I should. Eyes are wide open for suggestions in math!

a1: when teaching coordinate plane, I have Ss plot points, then connect to make constellations. Then they reflect through an axis

A2: every project try to provide history info particularly when the art was created. Why it's important.. Ss want to know the "why"

A2: I love incorporating art into history lessons. Native American art, colonial textiles and art, copper engraving, etc.

A3: In science we used interactive journals, models, diagrams, design, etc. for reinforcing patterns, nature and other scientific concepts.

A4: I haven't gotten the chance to teach geometry yet, but I am so excited for this unit so the kids can break out their creativity. I plan on stealing all ideas/activities!

A4: In algebra, we create "creatures" using pattern blocks that show consistent, predictable, repeatable growth and then create function tables and formulas to explain.

A4: Absolutely! Geometry shapes incorporated in flowers, tessellations, polygon art, sky lines, etc.

A5: I like to share artwork/pictures in the class and have Ss create lessons/ask questions about the works. does a great job of this with our Ss in art!

A7: My art teacher is amazing, and I'm sure she'd love to share vocab terms with me so that we can speak the same language. Plus, I'd love to learn!

Collaboration! You never know what units might collide and you could get a lot covered!

A7: As a teacher, use art vocabulary as often as you can when teaching. Can also play vocabulary games and focus on one specific vocabulary term a week with each art lesson.
