Q1: As we work w Ss of all ages, and in all program settings, does planning 4 transition intersect w planning 4 tech? How do u integrate the 2? #PatinsIcam
A1: My focus is ALWAYS on skills for LIFE. If I can match a tool for a student to use for life, I have found the right tool for school AND transition #PatinsIcam
A1: It is crucial in today's world of shifting platforms and evolving applications to ask the question, "what will this look like next year?" "In four years?". A good transition plan includes a plan to continually look at updating AEM and AT plans. #PatinsIcam
It is important to be planning this integration, trying things, honing skills and thinking forward to possible scenarios. Even more necessary is preparing the student to advocate for their tech. #PatinsIcam

Q2: Name one way that technology or accessibility has changed your job or how you do your job over the course of your career? In the last year? #PatinsIcam
A1: the nature of transition planning is that it's a fluid plan that moves with the students wants, needs, interests, and plans. When tech updates, so do we!

A2: when I'm away from my desk, I listen to most emails on my phone. I travel to conferences, but learn and network mostly online. Just heard from a colleague in England who found and utilized a Patins TV episode about using a wifi camera with a tablet #PatinsIcam
A2: Technology has gone from non existent to an incredibly important part of my job...and in the last year alone I believe it falls into the category of "if you can dream it you can have it." Kids today are so lucky...so many hurtles are being jumped! #PatinsIcam
A2: it has allowed independence and advocacy for my learners. Independence and autonomy has been life changing for our learners. We are only scratching the surface. #PatinsIcam
Q2: Name one way that technology or accessibility has changed your job or how you do your job over the course of your career? In the last year? #PatinsIcam
A2: So many changes the need for paper is a huge change. Technology has also reduced the waiting time for so many things. Decisions can be made quicker and with a greater consensus. #PatinsIcam
A2: @DonJohnstonInc Snap & Read is a major game changer for my Ss! Before that, I was reading aloud everything for them. Now they can move from webpage to webpage independently.
A2: supporting students who expect to have their voice (their AAC) on their phone is an industry changer. Who knew we'd be buying high tech AAC at Target or Walmart? #PatinsIcam
Q2: Name one way that technology or accessibility has changed your job or how you do your job over the course of your career? In the last year? #PatinsIcam
Q2: Until I took this position, I had sort of tiptoed around tech. Even while teaching it was not too big a factor. Now I feel like I've jumped into the deep water. Sandy often throws me a floatie!#patinsicam
A3: I think owning how they learn best and recognizing that there are life tools that will be there to assist the journey are the best ways to reach independence! #PatinsIcam
A3: Getting students connected to mentors who can share their stories and wisdom can be meaningful--hopefully a role model that can share their ups and downs, and what is current in the workplace. #PatinsIcam
A3: We do our students are great service by teaching them how to manage and operate their own tech. We also need to give them the ownership and curiosity to explore new developments #PatinsIcam
A3: keep them in the process as much as possible. Ss are so used to listening and being told what to do. It's a skill to be able to evaluate and make choices for yourself. We need to foster that early by valuing their ideas and discussing them. #PatinsIcam
Q4: Are you familiar with the new Pathways that Indiana has created to offer multiple options for diploma and certificate completion? How are these impacting your planning and instruction? #PatinsIcam
A3: We are preparing them for jobs that haven't been invented and told that haven't been dreamed of. Growing Curiosity, resilience, and kindness within them will serve them through all of that #PatinsIcam
Yes I am! If you would like to talk digital portfolios or anything transition feel free to reach out to me. If you are at atia come see me Friday at 1 for Digital transition portfolios and more!#PatinsIcam
