Our chat will focus on the idea that we can lead and make positive change from any position in our school systems. Leadership is not about a title, it is a way of thinking and acting.

A1: Just read something somewhere that you should actually use a schedule instead of a checklist and actually put times for working on each thing on your list to hold you more accountable. I am going to start organizing that this weekend for myself. #LeadLAP
A1: I use paper & pencil to see it visually each day. But carry my phone with me every where so Ts know I'm available for them at any point for emergencies or cool things happening in class! #LeadLAP
A1: I do a brain dump of everything I need to do & then I prioritize it. If I know I have something coming up to prep, then I start time blocking off 1-3 hours to work on it. Timeblocking my week w/ tasks/projects has been really helpful for me. #LeadLAP#creativelyproductive

A1: @googlecalendar is my BFF this year! Having the opportunity to invite people to meetings has helped me keep track of where I need to be and who needs to be there! #LeadLAP
Iāll confess. In my new position that started 2 weeks ago, Iām using the āfly by the seat of my pantsā method. Itās really effective. Not really. #LeadLAP
A1. I set aside 2 hours in late afternoon so I know I can get my āworkā done. I feel freer to respond with all my attention to the unexpected in the day then . #leadlap
I have had to make myself be a list maker which never was my personality before. Now I enjoy and feel accomplished when I check items off. Still struggle with balancing people and important to-do's. #LeadLAP
A1: I use a combo of paper & digital. Love my @ErinCondren calendar plus BAND app/calendar to stay in touch with our team. The calendar links to iPhone and Office365 calendars. #LeadLAP#CreativelyProductive

I am a dual language coordinator. Each day needs the following: time with students, time for schoolwide language/cultural equity, time on instruction/planning, time on community work, and as little time as possible on compliance. #LeadLAP
A1) Between a set class schedule and a coaching schedule I'm lucky to be able to create, I make a committment to truly be in the moment w/Ss, Ts, & admin-I secure time before school & in the middle of the day to breathe, reflect, and plan:) #leadlap
I do use my email in box as a to do list. I have a comprehensive email filing system. It helps me organize who needs what from me, and what answers Iām still waiting on #LeadLAP
A1. I try to limit 1 hour of time to my office when kids are at school so I can be visible and support staff. āI must lead with my feet, not from my seat.ā #LeadLAP
A1: I use a combination of digital notifications for meetings and written agenda for quick notes. Digital callander syncs with my family so things can be added on multiple devices. #LeadLAP
A1 I need flexibility, so I use a schedule on a clipboard with post-it notes. I can schedule my day, but if things change, I can just move the post-it. This way I stay on top of what I need to do.
#leadlap
A1: Power Hour! (sometimes itās more like Power Half Hour). I set time aside each day to knock out specific to do items. I donāt stop to do anything other than whatās on the list. I set a timer and focus to complete tasks. These short bursts of focused time really help. #LeadLAP
This is so important, Lisa. We often forget to calendar time to prep for the things we need to do. It can add a lot of stress and late nights when we realize we didnāt fit that in. #LeadLAP
A1: driven by my Outlook calendar. Classroom walkthroughs posted first then meetings and such are put on by priority. Phone with notifications keeps me on schedule #LeadLAP
A1: I have a daily āget-to list.ā It starts w/ getting into 5 classrooms and ends w/ writing one handwritten thank you note - and other items in between. If I miss something, it becomes a priority the next day. If I miss two days, in a row itās time for me to refocus. #LeadLAP
Q1: Reflecting and writing down my 3 most important things (number one being in classrooms) the night before and putting them actually on my calendar in blocks of time. If it's on my calendar it's going to happen. #leadlap
A1āstill trying to figure that out after 14 years as a principal! š I try to schedule everything with my calendar, and I say things out loud to my staff to help hold me accountable. Also learning to say a little more...I tend to overbook. š¤¦š»āāļø#leadlap
Q1: How do you organize your schedule and manage your time during the day so you feel that you are most effective? Share strategies and tools (e.g. analog or digital). #LeadLAP#creativelyproductive
A1: I have a planner and a list. I try to mark my high priority items and knock those out first. As we all know time is at a premium. As building leaders our time is everyoneās time so I am flexible as well. #LeadLAP
A1: Power Hour! (sometimes itās more like Power Half Hour). I set time aside each day to knock out specific to do items. I donāt stop to do anything other than whatās on the list. I set a timer and focus to complete tasks. These short bursts of focused time really help. #LeadLAP
Q1: I use a paper planner and just recently I've added the @PrincipalCenter daily planner. It has daily gratitude, top 3 for the day, notes, scheduled, and planning for tomorrow. My phone is also my lifeline. #leadlap
A1: #GoogleCalendar!!!! As a Ts, I still have PDs I lead at Lunch, clubs I support at Lunch, tutoring times, tech training, IEPs, parent meetings to track--I wish I could post PICS in the calendar #leadlap
Q1: How do you organize your schedule and manage your time during the day so you feel that you are most effective? Share strategies and tools (e.g. analog or digital). #LeadLAP#creativelyproductive
A1 I have a list of staff in Google sheets that keeps me focused on making sure I visit all classrooms, as well as the kind of feedback I provide (note, vox, email). #LeadLAP
A1: I rely heavily on my color-coded Outlook calendar that I have on my computer and phone. I schedule time to be in classrooms as well as time to work on big projects. I always print a copy and add unexpected events so I can track my time. #leadlap

Q2: What strategies are most effective to you for avoiding distractions and managing procrastination? Share strategies and tools (e.g. analog or digital).

A1 I utilize my calendar in my phone and one that I carry with me so that I can see it visually. I also prioritize my tasks so that I can be as organized as possible. It's still a struggle as I strive to balance multiple tasks in and out of work and at home. #leadlap
A1 - A visable in the room with hour time frames. When we meet in the morning & discuss our day we decide what goes into what time frame and try to stick to it as much as possible. I teach gifted and they do not leave, even for lunch, so we stay very busy! Timers!! #leadlap
A1: We started using daily checklists at home once we had a baby because everything fell through the cracks. I have yet to bring this into my classroom but it is next on my list. #LeadLAP
A1 I place EVERYTHING on the calendar!
Also, I use @GoogleKeep faithfully. It is my to-do list each day. I have 2 lists.
1) A running to-do list--yellow
2) But, the green Google-Keep list is my YOU MUST accomplish each day list. I just move items to the green one ea/day.

A1 I have a spiral notebook that I make a list for the week in and the. A list for each day as I accomplish each task I highlight it in pink. It keeps me moving forward and allows me to check my progress #LeadLAP
A2: I am in my office early in the morning and stay late to take care of the administrative/planning things that I really need to concentrate on. These are the times that I know I will not be interrupted and that I do not feel pulled to be doing other things. #LeadLAP
A2: Deadlines are the only thing that help. My ADD & relationship building means distractions are high all the time! I either stay late or come early so that I can get things (paperwork) done. #LeadLAP

A1: I use this as well. A colleague shared this Intentional Day Plan and it is has become an essential part of my daily prep. I refer back to sheets regularly. I also have a bucket list planning guide to store ideas for the future! #leadlap
A1: I also make sure to remind myself that relationships have to take precedent over lists every day of the week. Don't make myself so busy that I lose sight of what our job is all about. #LeadLAP
A2: I use the Task feature of #GoogleCalendar and when I don't do something--it's still there, glaring at me, the next day-#leadlap Oh! Most important gets done before school

A1: I try to have a plan for the day - prioritizing what I need to get done. I do my best to remain as flexible as possible. I love Google Keep & using my iPhone to set reminders for myself. #LeadLAP
Us this in relatively the same way. I love it! I often try and organize to do's but also lists of students shared with support staff that need interventions etc. #LeadLAP

I use both, digital for the reminders that show up, but I like my pen and planner so that I can see it more visually and it's right in front of me. Helps so much! #LeadLAP
A2: I use an essential oil spray that helps me focus. I've also tried just raising my hand over my head for a bit to bring my brain back. #mindfulness

Google Keep also houses a shared grocery list with my hubby. Which is awesome bc whenever one of us = in town, we can check off the growing "shared" list! #Leadlap
A1 I start with the non-negotiables for the week, topof the list. Write it all down. X off as theyāre complete. The sense of task accomplishment is fuel to remain focused, but always remembering relationships are first. Sched readjustment may be necessary. Flex mindset. #LeadLAP
A2: I am the opposite of a procrastinator. Personality flaw? I have to get things done now. The distraction comes from "that other thing that has to get done". Have yet to solve it. #leadlap
A2) I live on @GoogleKeep as I'm not terribly organized with paper. I used to think I should get the stuff done I'm less passionate about first but then learned from @strobeled that we can be more productive when at our happiest-this has been a game changer!:) #leadlap
A2: Every time I find myself getting distracted, I immediately go back to my @googletasks list and work on the next thing. I use it so much now and have found that I love checking things off the list! #LeadLAP
A2: I set deadlines and goals for myself. For example, by Tuesday I need to get x, y, and z complete. I also put things on my list to do that I am already doing (like basketball games) because it makes me feel better to check those things off when I finish. #LeadLAP
A2) I'm a big fan of analog. I make lists. I add stuff to the lists, then I cross them off when I am done. It is astonishing how much satisfaction I get from crossing things off my list! Sometimes I add things that I've already done just so I can cross them off. #LeadLAP

A2: we do a lot of meetings through video conference so I will leave my headphones in and I am less likely to be interrupted. I create a list of must does before leaving work which helps me with procrastination #leadlap
A2. I carry a clipboard all day so, if anything new comes up, I can record it and not forget. If I am 'stuck' in a rut of not getting started, I set a 5 min timer break, and then restart. Kind of like brain breaks for kids! #LeadLAP

This is so true! Each day unpredictable happenings occur. Recently we had a situation that required us to redirect a large chunk of the day in the classroom to meet the needs of a child who had unique circumstances, and we had to shift our "to do" to another day. #LeadLAP
A1: I also make sure to remind myself that relationships have to take precedent over lists every day of the week. Don't make myself so busy that I lose sight of what our job is all about. #LeadLAP
A2. Those late afternoonsI mentioned in A1 help. Also I love to spend a Sunday afternoon in our public library. I am working on Sunday, I know, but I also get the beauty and bustle of a library.#leadlap
A2: Help! This is where I am weak. Proctrastination is not a problem, but distractions can be. I thrive on being out and about and then at the end of the day I have my list! The new planner is helping, but I need growth in this area! #leadlap
A1) Reading and writing is a lifestyle, so I just go with the flow but make sure to carve out time for my fellow readers and writers when needed. #LeadLAP

A2: no distracting apps on my phone. I love Twitter but I donāt have it as an š±app.i have to do lists that I cross off everyday- thatās analog. The feeling off crossing it off is satisfying. #LeadLAP
A2: I am the squirrel in the convo but I put kids first always. I have daily talks with my peers and we hold each other accountable to avoid procrastination. #LeadLAP
Q2: Nothing fancy. Just HIDE MY PHONE. Sometimes close the door. As much as I enjoy talking with others sometimes I have to give myself permission to prioritize the work that will have a positive outcome on students. It allows me to be more present in the future. #leadlap

A2: One strategy for avoiding distractions and procrastination is setting mini task challenges. I give myself 10 minutes to do something. Just like setting short timers for students, I do it for myself too. Ready? Set? GO! #LeadLAP
A3: Creating small "mini-goals" for myself is helpful for me. I am much more likely to reach a big goal when I set smaller, more manageable goals. #LeadLAP

A1: Also all meals revolve around the Paprika app. All our recipes are in it so we add to the meal calendar and grocery list and the ingredients pop up by section of the store. Syncs so when someone crosses it off itās updated. You can add recipes from any site online #LeadLAP
A3) Finding the goals worth pursuing is the first step. I reach out, read, network, then reflect. Driving to and from work is great reflection time, and often when I create new goals. #LeadLAP
A2: I am Calendar heavy. I have a hanging whiteboard that I have sectioned into long term & short term activities and then upcoming meetings and sports supervision. I have a huge calendar on my desk and use my google calendar as well. Having reminders everywhere is huge #LeadLAP
A3: I find that once I set a goal, I need to have an accountability partner. Someone who checks in to see progress and someone I can ask for help if I need. I have great mentors professionally & amazing friends/family personally. #LeadLAP

Close my office door and follow my checklist. At the beginning of the year, I used to race with another principal colleague to see who could finish their weekly parent bulletin first. #LeadLAP
A3: I think accountability is key to achieving goals. Making them visible and reminding myself of them sometimes daily. I also let those that are around me and possible able to help me k ow about them. This acts as accountability and encouragement #LeadLAP
A2) I welcome distractions in my line of business, which is teaching writing. Distractions are healthy and human. Thatās where fresh ideas are born. #LeadLAP
A3: For professional goals, my colleague @tejashanson uses this idea of buckets to look at the areas that are passions and priorities for him and then makes these visible. Totally stealing this idea. ;) #LeadLAP#creativelyproductive
A3 If I don't schedule it, it doesn't happen. I also make lists to work through. For long term goals I keep my #oneword where I can see it (laptop wallpaper, on my bulletin board, in my agenda)
#leadlap
For sure! Sticky notes!!! I can't live without them! I write notes to myself at work all the time - especially when it's dealing with 1:1. This S needs a loaner, this S needs their repaired Chromebook given back, etc. I can put it in my spreadsheet later. #LeadLAP
A3 My personal & professional goals come from a place of wanting to reach Ss, Ts, admin, and the community better than what I did before. Creating interactive Google Sites is something I'm working on all year. #leadlap
A3: For me, I have to make sure that my personal goals are really aligned to my values so I know I am moving in the right direction, so I do a values audit once a year or so: https://t.co/2TAJwiiEvD#LeadLAP#creativelyproductive

I lose paper. There I said it, it's out there. I have a link to certain Google Forms on my iPad and phone. Enter quick info and access it later. I keep working to automate the processes. #leadlap
A2: I have an open door policy - anyone can come in & talk about anything, anytime. Last year, our secretaries told me to start shutting my door for half an hour a day to get a little bit done each day. They protect that time for me. #LeadLAP
A1 - I have more solutions now, thanks to this fantastic #LeadLAP community! I don't have a strategy, other than I MUST calendar EVERYTHING immediately on my Google calendar. Literally everything - "Call Sarah back at 9:45". With reminders set.
A2: The best way I avoid distractions is by arriving to school by 6:15am! No one is there then, but me & Alva. I get so much work done then!
(P.S.āAlva is our amazing custodian!) #LeadLAP
A1: I have an electronic calendar that syncs to my watch/ email. I also use an Erin Condren planner bc Iām visual and need to physically check off my daily tasks. Physically checking off my to do list makes me feel productive! #LeadLAP#CreativelyProductive

A3) Best practice for achieving and setting goals is...TELL SOMEONE! Saying it out loud as well as community support just maximizes productivity. #leadlap
A1. Revisited. I have never been much of a calendar person. I write things on calendar, but I really rely on my memory or some one reminding me. That is still the best for me. So I guess I rely on kindness . Can I call that collaboration?. #leadlap
Q4: What are your favorite strategies and tools for sharing back and beginning to implement what you learned at an event or conference with your staff?

A4: A lot of times I will immediately send and mail with information to those it relates to with a reminder to them to ask me about it when I get back. I also use Google Keep to remember which sessions I attended. #LeadLAP
A4 - Providing coaching and support for the teachers who attended so that they are the ones sharing instead of me - building capacity and agency and on site leaders. #LeadLAP
A4 I take notes on my learning on Twitter and often share the hashtag from EdCamps or conferences that I attend in our weekly staff nuts and bolts. A good face to face conversation is a good strategy, too. #LeadLAP

Q4) This is a tough one. People (students, too!) don't always want to hear/learn when we want to share/teach! Bringing up tidbits at opportune times is important. #LeadLAP

A4 I offer optional after school PD for Ts in my district. I am also trying to become more consistent at blogging. I tweet out the goodness and I talk F2F with those that aren't connected. #LeadLAP
Q4: What are your favorite strategies and tools for sharing back and beginning to implement what you learned at an event or conference with your staff?
#LeadLAP#creativelyproductive
A4. This is an area that I need to grow in - currently I share with my AP and leadership team. Strive to develop others to create collective efficacy. #LeadLAP
A3: I ask our staff for feedback on how Iām doing and where I could get better. Then I take some time to reflect on what they tell me and set new goals. I get more feedback and then find an accountability partner to help me stay focused. #LeadLAP
A3 I'm a visual person. I almost always make graphs. LOL. Ask @burgess_shelley@wenders88 & @burgessdave !
Once I can see my current reality, I set long term goals & bite-size goals.
I'm a ridiculous goal-setter, but it works for me. I even set daily (dorky) goals. ;)

A2 - Strategy to avoid distraction: Commit to the NOW and put away phone. Strategy to combat procrastination: Tell myself it DOES NOT HAVE TO BE PERFECT. Done is better than perfect. The need for perfection paralyzes me. #LeadLAP
A3) The best process is living your vision on a daily basis. Read more. Write more. Listen more. Talk more. Live more. Learn more. Love more. Edit your life as you get along in life. Take out what drains you; bring in what energizes you. #LeadLAP
A4 When a team goes to a conference we've now started staying one extra day so that we can meet & reflect on what we learned. When we just rushed back to school we tended to forget almost everything. The extra day pays huge dividends.
#LeadLAP
This is a bonus question I am throwing in. šš„³

A4: While this doesnāt have anything to do with a conference, I work with our ITRT and another admin to keep track of good articles and twitter ideas by creating a ātwitter PDā hashtag for us. When we come across a good idea we RT with the hashtag #bfmsTPD#LeadLAP
A4: Hi Leila here jumping in late I take lots of notes. I make a point to share them with at least three people. When I use what I learn I am overt about telling folks where or how I learned it. #leadlap

A3: Still working on a system for this. But I have found the passion planner goalsetting process to be the most effective for me. It helps narrow it down to what you really want. #leadlap
A4 I finally figured out what works for me: 3-2-6 Plan. Committing to focus on the 1st strategy for 2 weeks - itās a habit. Then, the 2nd strategy - 2 wks, then the 3rd strategy - 2 weeks. 3 new strategies all routine 6 weeks after training! #leadLAP
A4: I just bought a @getRocketbook to sync my written notes with my Google Drive to make it easy to go back to important notes/information quickly. Excited to try it out and see if it helps my efficiency in this area. #LeadLAP

A4: Twitter, using HTs that I know they will see. Face-to-face, in a meeting (formal) or in the hall - "HEY! I learned something that I think you'll be excited to try!" The informal sometimes is the best (personalized to the T) for gaining "organic" support. #LeadLAP
