It's a . All of my responses tonight will include them. That's the TM part of https://t.co/TsSWSH1psR

A1 MT show students the possibilities
The richness of the author's writing allows Ss to borrow the style or technique to try out on their own. A1
Thinking Maps Leadership Training... I think it's going to be in Antioch. https://t.co/nF0894F1PU
Ooo, anything particular?
And for which writer. Sometimes a mentor text in a conference is just what that writer needs at that time.
Wait...I didn't know we are moving times! I guess I've missed too many times lately!
A1: Mentor text gives Ss something concrete to imitate--helps them see themselves as "real" writers as they incorporate the skills.
A1: It may model a sentence, a beginning a way to support your ideas. We must read as writers, as well as readers.

a neat thing about this is they get to also see the "real" writing in context. Not just an assignment vacuum.
A1: There is quote (IDK from who) that says something like, "Novice writers borrow, professional writers steal!"
It's pretty late for EST folks. Hard to start your week going to bed at midnight every Sunday.
RT RT : A1B: Select a mentor text that provides Ss with an appropriate lens to craft their own piece..
I thought the same too. :)
A2: Can we teach writing without mentor texts?
Published mentor text at first then we need to switch to Sts mentor text for writing.

A2: Can we teach writing without mentor texts?
I love the fact that Ss can borrow. In poetry they can lift a word or line to create their own piece. A1
A2: Depending on the structure of the lesson. You could choose to chunk up the text into several mini-lessons, based on Ss needs.
A2: It also empowers our Ss to begin reading with a writer's lens. They will begin to gather craft and use it as their model.
Yes, we have in the past but the richness of the writing is enhanced by the deep dive into mentor text. A2

A2: Perhaps the greatest benefit of using mentor text is Ss can see examples and emulate quality writing. https://t.co/cRoJxpvB1W
A2: Mentor texts are 'real world' connections to writing. Have a larger purpose than merely illustrating a strategy = Ss writing

A3: Hmmm...It allows students to see more approaches to writing (writing craft).
A3 It allows ss to see the craft, skillful use of structure & language to convey the idea It's reading "awake" not only what but how
A3: If we model reading with purposes, one is to look at the writing. If we loved the book, let's look at why we do.
