Join SLPs and Special Educators to collaborate, share ideas and discuss how we leverage the use of Ed Tech with our challenged learners, the successes and challenges we meet in the process and how we might envision a future where PLNs and SIGs can support educators in providing ALL learners with the 21st century skills needed to lead the future.

A1: Absolutely the use of speech-to-text and word prediction software. This technology can be FREE at the student's fingertips and can alleviate barriers and frustrations and allow Ss to write more fluidly #SlpSpedChat
A1. I really love the speech to text that our 1:1 Chromebooks have built in for our Ss. I always recommend Ss get the @Grammarly extension - that is one of my favorites bc it takes the guess work out. #SLPSpedChat
A1: For students working to improve their use of syntax or grammar, I find the grammarly chrome extension to be a valuable guided learning tool. It can function across applications and whole offering corrections still leaves the choices & learning tot the student! #slpspedchat
#slpspedchat I also was going to say that speech to text software is great! some students are better at expressing thoughts verbally and this tech helps them put thoughts into writing
Yes! Ss will modify themselves for fear of misspellings and will use simpler words instead of the ones that are stuck in their brilliant minds #SLPspedchat
A1: The technology that I would use to help remove barriers to learning with writing would be speech-to-text. This app is available on computers and tablets! #barbersclss@barbersclass#slpspedchat
A1: graphic organizers! And Tab Scissors extension on Chrome or Magnets app on my Mac so I can write and see my digital graphic organizer of choice while I write #SLPSpedChat
A1: I’d like to add graphic organizers to help students get the writing process started and organized to all the great answers from everyone. #SlpSpedChat
A1: I also like to integrate the use of Google Keep as digital post it notes. Great that it can be opened in Google Docs for quick reference #SlpSpedChat
Using speech-to-text is a skill in itself. Once we take that time upfront to TEACH that skill meaningfully, it can unleash a student in so many positive ways #SLPspedchat
A1 Read & Write for Google, Chrome Extensions Spreed, Mercury Reader, GoogleKeep, There are more and more tools to help remove the barriers for learning #slpspedchat
A1: #slpspedchat another great tool for older students is google docs, where the teacher or peers can provide feedback in real time and add direct comments to student writing

A2: Text-to-speech like FREE app PrizmoGo https://t.co/H71077oiKB or built-in OCR in Google Doc or Read Write 4 Google extension, Snap and Read, highlighted text for tracking, closed captioning #SlpSpedChat
A2. I really like the Visor extension for Chrome to help Ss with reading disabilities. It provides overlays and allows you to specify a point of focus. #SLPSpedChat
A2: I highly recommend One Note Learning Tools. It allows for read aloud but also breaks down words into syllables. There is also a feature that allows you to highlight and differentiate parts of speech. It's definitely worth a peak! #SlpSpedChat
A2: #slpspedchat I am not yet a teacher, but in the future I would like to use audiobooks where students can listen to what they read as they read it. This helps w/ comprehension especially for students w/ LD!
A2: There is also in Read and Write for Google the Simplify function that allows you to adjust the content of the text from websites while removing clutter #SlpSpedChat
A2: The technology that I would as a teacher to help students with reading disabilities would be audio books and digital TTS books! Sometimes kids need to hear their books read aloud. #barbersclss@barbersclass#slpspedchat
A1: #slpspedchat another great tool for older students is google docs, where the teacher or peers can provide feedback in real time and add direct comments to student writing
A2: Closed captioning I feel is the most underused tool to improve literacy skills & it's considered time spent reading! The FREE app Apple Clips does live captioning & Cliptomatic...Microsoft Translator..all FREE and easy #SLPspedchat
A2. Read and Write is my go to tool to help students with reading difficulties but I like Mercury Reader to remove all the distractions to support the reader. #slpspedchat
A2: Read and Write for Google also has a "practice reading aloud" feature that allows students to audio record themselves reading a passage. They can share passage and recording with teacher #SlpSpedChat

A2. I really like the Visor extension for Chrome to help Ss with reading disabilities. It provides overlays and allows you to specify a point of focus. #SLPSpedChat
Yes and if we can change the language from "listening" to "auditory reading" perhaps we can make some important changes on high stakes assessments on comprehension part! #SLPspedchat
A2: #slpspedchat I am not yet a teacher, but in the future I would like to use audiobooks where students can listen to what they read as they read it. This helps w/ comprehension especially for students w/ LD!
A2 I am going to go with OverDrive for audiobooks. Read Aloud Chrome extension that reads web-pages and Select and Speak because it reads Google Documents. #slpspedchat
