Welcome all. Tonight's a thought-provoking topic.
Bouncing back & forth tonight between & ! I can barely keep up w/ 1 chat, so wish me luck! :)
we have all been there on occasion for sure!
A1: Does the Imposter Syndrome apply to you? If so, how?
A1 it does me since I am never satisfied w where I am or what I do
A1 a wise friend once told me that everyone who is successful feels like an imposter most of the time. what do y'all think?
Joining my friends at tonight!
Hi tweeps! Emmy Fiala - Media Specialist for the in Nebraska.
A1: Since I'm a risk taker, I feel like I live and thrive on the edge. However, bravado overcomes confidence at times.
A1 It doesn't apply to me. I do fear that one day "poof!" I'll run out of creative ideas and then I won't know what to do!
A1 it does for me bc I am trying to fix a ton now not good at waiting
Jess, Teacher Librarian, Alliston, ON, Canada
A1: Some days I'm just trying to hold it all together when others think I have it all under control.
Even after years and accolades I feel this at times
I always feel like I can do more. I am never satisfied - and always strive to do and be better.
. I agree! I always feel this way! I think part of this comes from learning so much from others.
A1 It is difficult to self-diagnose imposter syndrome!I will say that I always feel like I can improve and am my toughest critic
me too! But u never look like ur sweating a project or something u r trying
Generally when I see a million blogs and social media posts about all the awesome--we don't always share the not so great
A1: Some days I just feel incompetent.
A1 sometimes I feel I've never had an original idea but I can rock other ppl's ideas. Lol
A1) I struggle w/ sharing ideas and not enough time/resources to see them realized and waiting for someone to call me out.
A1 I think it used to apply. Now, I just focus on making a difference for my students!
Sometimes I think readers of chats feel they are not doing enough to be equal with their peers. That's not true at all.
Sagamore Hill Elementary librarian is here π€
Me too. I am a great "copycat" is that a syndrome?
A1: Find that I need to slow things down and tell myself I don't need to do it all...today
that's the imposter part. ur cool on the outside but secretly hoping no 1 finds out u don't know what ur doing
Not copycat but modifying to your needs. . https://t.co/e8Su5P47pC
Me too. I am a great "copycat" is that a syndrome?
Q2: Why does everything NOT have to be an Instagram Moment? or Who cares if it's an Instagram Moment?
A1 I am worried this year I won't live up to last years librarian and my aid compares us
Copycat syndrome... I love it!
A1: Ss are my gr8 motivator to try new things!
A1 Def. was being afraid to be exposed as a fraud, right? Y'all are as true as they come, you are all so amazing and giving!
I was once told that when I feel most incompetent is when I'm doing the right thing!
truth, but it is sometimes hard to remember this!
You will never be the other librarian. Just be you and don't worry. . https://t.co/BI0eT2Fgsw
A1 I am worried this year I won't live up to last years librarian and my aid compares us
I usually just jump in & figure the plan- outcome as I go. Mostly know where the end is, just not how journey will look
Absolutely Michelle. We have to celebrate personal victories.
A2 Who cares!? When you are living the learning & experiences with Ss it's framed in something real, meaningful and memorable.
Trying new things--and taking those risks means not everything will be an insta moment!
A2 social media exacerbates the feeling that you aren't doing enough. we all need to channel and say "i AM enough!"
A2 Advocating is good, but the best mark of a great librarian is what the students & teachers think. Relax and enjoy the moments.
Don't feel you have to post everything you do on Instagram. Most things are not instagram worthy.
A2 because insta...is highlights not reality & not daily life. A place to reflect highs and remember the lows w/o them documented
Yes!!! THIS! https://t.co/CPEsRAyyKJ
A2 social media exacerbates the feeling that you aren't doing enough. we all need to channel and say "i AM enough!"
A2 even not so too moments can b instg moments to rember what didn't work but tried
A1: Yes I attempt many things that I am not sure how to do
A2: we are hear for the students not the audience, we take chances and fail forward
A2: we are here for the students not the audience, we take chances and fail forward
A2 can also use failures to model "failing forward" to students...esp. w/ making and growth mindset
I think that is important, though, to share some "fails" to support one another and know you are not alone
A2 the Kodak moments fly by, but gr8t learning happens often when we r not aware of learning. Failure is try again, S's need 2 c
A2: Depends how one is using social media. Can be a gr8 motivator for Ss for Ts to showcase their work.
A2: More important to be present and "in the moment" and serve your students, teachers, and admin. in the best way you can.
A2 we need to celebrate each other's accomplishments without comparing. everyone has their own unique talents
Your comments are so reassuring to inexperienced librarians who are stressed about not doing enough.
A2: Learning is messy, so sometimes it is okay to show that too!
A2: We need to have enough confidence in ourselves that stats don't matter
A2 sometimes the messed up ideas lead to new and improved ones and those can b a lesson too
Yes! We learn the most from our fails! I try to always share what didn't work! π¬ https://t.co/pLQluJvHEX
I think that is important, though, to share some "fails" to support one another and know you are not alone
Q3: What about FAIL (First Attempt in Learning)? How do you overcome disappointment in not being perfect?
Yes! Stop experiencing life from behind a camera and a filter! https://t.co/lRD41eQXn4
A2: More important to be present and "in the moment" and serve your students, teachers, and admin. in the best way you can.
Love this so much! Learning IS messy! https://t.co/Sk8SIAZA6R
A2: Learning is messy, so sometimes it is okay to show that too!
Every librarian is unique and has to find his/her way, but we are all here to help! https://t.co/8FrzmaJdnX
Your comments are so reassuring to inexperienced librarians who are stressed about not doing enough.
For me, it has always been process that is most important not so much the product...
Reflection helps.as long as I focus on how I can grow I'm good!
True confession time. What's one thing you tried that didn't work?
A3 I don't have time 2 worry perfect I'm 2 busy w what is next
that's why you're a librarian. we are all about the process!
A3 I think evaluating what worked & what didn't & how u can change it to make it better next time or if it just needs 2 b scrapped
A3 this is hardest for me. I try to step back and see what I can improve next time ..always have a next time
I had to restructure book club multiple times to find a winner for my kids
A3: Having a strong will and hard head helps with failures
A3: Understand no one is perfect. Reflect w/ your Ss and Ts for feedback. Collaborate w/ others. Listen and learn.
A3 We just talk it out right there & then. Why aren't u getting it? Where did I lose you? Was it BORING? What can I do next time?
A3 Perfection is like a comfort zone-lovely, but nothing grows there.
A3 If it's after that I notice the learning bombed, then nxt time I ask them if I could present it another way, if we can try again.
Q4: What is the ONE thing that is most important for you to do this year?
Too many classes in makerspace @ once we didn't have enough supplies.
A3: Im a 1st year librarian. My motto is tomorrow will always be better than today. I learn from my mistakes & my Ss to do the same
A3 Nothing is ever perfect. We are always monitoring and adjusting. the 8th period lesson seldom looks anything like 1st period!
A4: I'm getting back to the basics with getting my Ss and Ts to read and love it.
There is never a time when everything is done. This can lead to overwhelm. Breathing helps to bring you back to reality
Thanks for hanging tonight. Chat's running slow. The good thing is the archives will be so helpful for those with imposter syndrome
Collaborate. Collaborate. Collaborate. I'm doing it this wk w our Deaf Ed teacher. Like REALLY doing it this time.
A 4Create a space in the media center students feel like coming to!
YEs. I feel like I have lost that with all the intergration of technology and makerspace
A4 Show my kids they matter. No lesson, no tech gadget or anything is more important than my students!
A4 get my jh and sh Ss n2 the lib
A4: Focus on the things I can control
start a technology club @ my school ; have Ss enter some projects in the spring Media Fair
A4 my is to spend at least 50% of my time on campus in libraries
A3: I reflect & reevaluate for next time/year. Pics help & a LOT of mental notes. :)
Q4: build relationships with students! Get to know their interests. Foster a love of reading. Make the library a positive place
Yes - it will be there tomorrow https://t.co/cD2eI5Sc5e
There is never a time when everything is done. This can lead to overwhelm. Breathing helps to bring you back to reality
A3 My fail this past year was coaching Battle of the Books by myself, I spread myself thin with them.
A3: Give myself permission that it is ok not to know it all. Gets easier every year you are an educator. Hard to do at times.
A4 to inspire my librarians to have more of a growth mindset and open them up to learning beyond the school day.
Thanks for a great chat, y'all!
A4 Honestly? Not work over 10 hours a day and weekends. Finding a balance...(Which is not my forte).
Anew of Green Gables "Tomorrowmis always rah with no mistakes in it."

Thanks for the chat everyone and thx for hosting ! Good night from Canada! π¨π¦
A4 Be a maker w/kiddos.. Take chances & lrn from them
A4: Dwell in the good that you do and greatness that you inspire

Can you share the link for the archives, plz? Also, do you have a website?
the more we relate to our kids, the more they enjoy coming to the library; humor always wins kids over too https://t.co/sWdljGNwGc
