This twitter chat stands for "Wins And Losses Ed Chat" and will be a chat where students reflect on the previous week to celebrate victories and reflect on losses to turn them into victories.
Intros: Welcome to #waledchat! Please introduce yourself, where you are from, your role in education, and what is your favorite movie genre? #waledchat
Hello #waledchat Courtney here from Palo Alto, Ca. Inclusive HS ELA and history teacher. I apparently lean toward the action drama genre. The Italian Job 🚗 is a fav!
A1: Trying to support and build the confidence of some of my team members who are doing fantastic things in their classrooms this year! This 1:1 initiative has been amazing! #waledchat
A1: As curriculum leader, I observed a teachers class & provided feedback. We discussed ways to include technology into lessons. The teacher seemed really excited to try the lesson. #waledchat
It’s finaly here!!!! Yooooo hoooooo! It’s Kristen, from PA! I teach 6th grade science. I was going to bring Cheez it’s for everyone to share, but I ate them al on purpaccident. hoping I stay awake! I fell asleep pirating on Tuesday!!! Peglegging pirating is tough! #waledchat
A1 I am a @Seesaw Ambassador so I have been helping Ts with setting up their classes and activities. Today a coworker told me she had a ton of parents sign on and they are really loving it. #waledchat
A1. I launched SSEP today and a fellow teacher joined me. She said she wished she had gotten into more programs like this. To be honest, I just showed up and got kids fired up, but she seems excited. #waledchat
A1: I’ve spent a little more time than usual trying to get to know my colleagues. HS gets very segregated, and it’s nice to just be around other colleagues and talk. Reached out to several new T’s and some who I know are struggling. #waledchat
A1 I try to help the regular classroom teachers of my little learners anyway I can. Support with parent interviews etc. I have these students for LLI #waledchat
A1: Through working to help tell our school story and being the social media "queen" I have teachers coming to me asking me to put something up to better inform our parents and community. It takes a village and I'm happy to help. #waledchat
A1: Happened today. @dsimpsonsimmons needed help running a split screen for videos on a Chromebook. I walked him through the process, then he came back 20 minutes later and proudly exclaimed, "I did it. On my own." #waledchat
A1~ boosting the self belief in new support teacher who is a hidden jewel❤️ she’s...
Good for kids
Kind&loyal & has some great ideas & action steps in engaging reluctant learners 👍 #waledchat#mrsborstyourock
A1 My job as the Principal is to help! Today I took over a classroom so a teacher could have a conversation with a S who was being disrespectful, I collaborated with a team over scales, and I this year Inam pushing the Ts to be bold in their teaching! #waledchat
A1: I helped one of my Ts work on data and let her get everything out that she wanted to know then once she gave everything she knew, I gave her my coaching tips and worked together to help her with diving into the numbers. #waledchat
A1: In my role as Ed Tech Specialist, I get to work with a lot of colleagues. This year I already have standing meetings with 3 teachers where I target THEIR needs at their levels. I’ve been training a lot on @goguardian. #waledchat
A1: I’m on a team that moved 6th grade from elementary to jr high. We’re all helping each other, but since I have jr high experience, I sometimes have the inside scoop. We’re having a blast! #waledchat
A2. I have a 3rd grade teacher that has as a reward, my class for some of her kids. I did not know this until today, but who can say no to that! #waledchat
A2: I make it a point to visit another teacher's class at least once a week to provide feedback and support, but also to gain ideas for my own teaching. #waledchat
A1: Adam joining late - I hope everyone is well! Today I helped a colleague publish a google site for a digital breakout and another colleague and I are working together creating an ancient greece quest.
#waledchat
Intros: Welcome to #waledchat! Please introduce yourself, where you are from, your role in education, and what is your favorite movie genre? #waledchat
A2: I, like most, want to help fix. When Ts are stuggling to figure out a kiddo I am eager to jump in and help, by coming into the class to observe and give thoughts and suggestions or taking them into a group to get a better understanding to then share. #waledchat
A1: When our former counselor joined our campus two years ago, she enjoyed helping administration and found her calling. I mentored her throughout the process and she became an assistant principal. Bittersweet loss for us but she’s happy. #waledchat
A1. Helping out in the library, with T and Ss. Finding books, checkout process, checkin, searching for materials that may help them in teaching. #waledchat
A2: Get out of the classroom! Walk down hallway, talk to the teacher at the end of the hall about her day. Ask the teacher with the new baby if she needs a coffee and a brief chat? Just talk to people! #waledchat
A2: I “lead” the meetings of the eleventh grade team - really it’s more of a collaborative effort... I also attend the board meetings to stay informed and help inform my friends... #waledchat
That's a great formula for success! We learn so much when we see others in action! Was thankful when @KTuttleEDU offered to cover my class so I can go observe a colleague in the future. :) #waledchat
A2: I enjoy helping other friends from Twitter by speaking at events, conferences, edcamps, on podcasts. I am even available to talk to you or your kids via Hangouts. :) #waledchat
A2: Sharing at conferences definitely breaks me out of my walls (hello all my new @IMLEAorg and AdvancEd friends!), and my website lets me share too. https://t.co/ZrzdbCM3a8#waledchat
Hey man! How are you?? Do you per chance teach early Native Americans? If so, I have a @nearpod lesson I used today that went really well I can send your way! #waledchat
A2 Whatever is needed I am there to support! I try to say YES as often as possible and support all their ideas. I am even dressing up as a unicorn next week... ugh! #waledchat
A2: I almost never have meetings in my office - I like to use conference rooms in the library that have class walls so everyone can see that I love working with teachers. I also go to classrooms to push in and help there. #waledchat
A1 We have had a colleague transfer to our building. Due to shifts I went from a cart to having my own classroom and she inherited the floating position. I offered tips and tricks to help with floating #waledchat
A2 I offer Seesaw support every Tuesday after school from 3:15-4:00. I am presenting on Monday to some of the Tech department for my district. #waledchat
A2~ volunteer, mentor for residential program for Ss who need a second chance ~ be the one who keeps showing up ~ give what you got & show them kindness, forgiveness, normalcy & esp tons of ❤️❤️❤️❤️#waledchat
A2 I am always open to having teachers come in to observe, talk with teachers that have questions, and I seek out help as well. Whenever I'm at PDs I try to reach out and meet other teachers. #waledchat
A1) I get to help with our school’s website so a colleague and I got to collaborate on what we have going that’s good and where we need to build more professionalism. It’s kinda a learn-as-we-go process for both of us! #webprocessing#waledchat
A3: I am going to have teachers that are not receptive. I try to be approachable and to support them no matter what. I trumpet their successes and help them when they need it. #waledchat
A3: Trying to help with some tech problems but not having the answers I need to support them. I feel bad, like I'm leaving them out to pasture... #waledchat
A2: By mentoring and being a role model. As the instructional leader, some teachers need support and I have to find a way to support them. Others want to become administrators and I support them by growing them and assisting them throughout the process. #waledchat
#waledchat A2: We are going 1:1 this year. Helping out my team as much as possible! Sorry about the late entry tonight! A1: A success is helping my team! A0: Kathleen from Illinois.
A2: Today, I noticed one of my admin sitting at a table in the main hallway. He basically moved his desk to the hall to be more visible to students & teachers by not staying in his office! #waledchat
A3: Oof. I tried to encourage a colleague to use Google Drive to complete assignments and activities, but she insisted on having the kids bring in flash drives. We were on two separate planets. It was rough. #waledchat
A2: This is a tough question for me right now. I’m spread pretty thin. I have responsibilities outside of classroom. Things are taking super long to do because I’m a peg legged pirate. I’m frustrated by my to do list that isn’t about my classroom. But I don’t say no.#waledchat
A3: I worked as an instructional coach for 4 years, and there were plenty of T’s that just weren’t open to my help. Not everyone is ready or open, and that’s ok. It makes me appreciate the ones who do. #waledchat
A3 I was asked to model and then speak to someone at a different school. Through the whole conversation, there was no self-reflection or ownership and confused as to why I was there. It actually helped me to open up even more and strive to stay open-minded. #waledchat
A3 Sometimes we offer suggestions and others don’t take it. It’s important to be able to be open with colleagues. Any feedback whether it’s positive or negative can be beneficial for everyone involved. #waledchat
A3: last yr after learning about and using @Flipgrid I suggested to Ts they could use Flipgrid with their Ss to have them record and reduce the amount of 1:1 time needed to do an activity. They listened, but didn't try and I was willing to help them set it all up. #waledchat
A3: It’s always an eye-opening moment when something doesn’t work like I thought it would and I have to look it up or follow up and Ts say - “Oh, even you don’t know everything?” - leads to very productive convos abt how we can help ourselves. #waledchat
A2: I try to ask a lot of questions during planning to see what my coworkers are doing and finding ways we can work together to get the job done more efficiently. #waledchat
A3: I have found that sometimes folks are verbal processors and aren't actually asking for advice but rather are venting. In these situations it's important to realize that and not take it personally if they then shoot down your ideas and solutions. #waledchat
A3~ spent way too much time modeling, sharing, kindness, positivity on a few peeps who were not open to change ~ growth. Took it too personally & realized that #actionsspeaklouderthanwords ... action not position. Took off rose colored glasses 😊 #waledchat
When I worked as a TA, I ran a room in OSS. The one teacher I worked with thought I was trying to take his job because I was teaching the SPED ss in the room. One that was in suspension for the year and said in a cse that I was teaching him. This man cussed me out. #waledchat
A3: A long time ago, I was asked to help another teacher who was not working to his potential. The end result was coming to the understanding that he didn't want to put in the effort. Education just wasn't his passion. I think he eventually moved on to another career. #waledchat
A4: I'll be honest. I've been struggling recently. I feel like I'm trying to do a million things, and that has zapped my energy out of the desire to do anything new. I need to recenter... #waledchat
A3: I tried to recommend some cool apps on the IPads but didn’t realize they didn’t have the same apps as me so they had to think quickly and find something else to do 🙊 #waledchat
A4: Just reminded me that we can only control ourselves. We bring our own culture into every interaction and we decide what that culture is, others don't decide for us. #waledchat
Just today:
T-Did you change my computer?
Me-No. I opened it. Saw I bought the wrong Ram. Closed it.
T-It's a different machine. I thought you were messing with me.
Me-Oh, I turned it off. Do you turn it off?
T-Never.
Us-Laugh.
#waledchat
A4: I continue to work to learn and use new ways through technology to engage Ss and Ts. The more they see others using the more they will be willing to try when the time is right for them. #waledchat
A4: Reminded me that I would be patient with a student who was at a different understanding than me, so why not be patient with a colleague? #waledchat
A4 I'm really careful in my work relationships, but to be honest, if I get cursed out for teaching kids again, I'm apt to think its that persons problem and not mine. #waledchat
Intros: Welcome to #waledchat! Please introduce yourself, where you are from, your role in education, and what is your favorite movie genre? #waledchat
A4 I tried to word it differently, but still hit a wall. So, I said what I was brought to share, but then I did self-reflect on myself. I try to stay open-minded, seek constructive criticism, and continue to have an open door policy. #waledchat
A3: Change comes from within otherwise it won’t happen. As the principal it is my responsibility to provide the support to staff in need. Sometimes I succeed and sometimes I don’t. When I don’t succeed because of resistance then it’s time to make the tough decisions. #waledchat
A4: I connected my experience with him to working with a student whose passion is not reading/writing. How can I increase his/her passion for the subject matter and be respectful of the other passions in his/her life? It made me rethink my approach with kids. #waledchat
A4: As teachers we all have comfort zones and experience w/ different areas. We need to remember to always have conversations that are not condescending, but supportive and positive. #waledchat
A2: To break out of the wall of one’s classroom or office, the walls of one’s mind have to be willing to think outside the box and not be married to one app, idea, or philosophy of teaching. #waledchat
A4 I just learned that some people think they know everything, believe everything should fit in a box, and don’t care about building trust(consistency in action over time)and relationships. Hard to accept but just know they are not my “tribe” and try to rise above. #waledchat
Exactly Tziri. When we made the push to go cloud based, I would always tell stories about how disorganized I was a student and even as an adult. I built my case that I didn't lose things now. #waledchat
Looking forward to seeing an old high school friend and his future bride this weekend. Can't wait for their wedding. Should be a nice break. :) #waledchat
A3) my challenge has been offering support for web presence but Ts feel spread too thin so they just don’t respond sometimes. That can be tough. #waledchat
A5: I have a friend building a deck that I would like to help. I also want to be able to be a voice of encouragement to others, a voice that lends grace, and supports people as they strive to move ahead. #waledchat
A1: I work with 2 other science teachers and we help each other all the time. I suppose I need to get out of my room more because that’s all I could come up with!!! 😬 #waledchat
A2: I'm building a Paludarium/Vivarium. My cohort said the Ss will never want to come their room. I'm giving her my old fish tank. Gotta share the wealth I guess. #waledchat
A4: When I don’t succeed at helping someone it makes me try new ideas or find another way to help. Everyone has an edge, even staff, and sometimes it’s just a matter of time. #waledchat
A4... as my bff teacher friend @_mlb25 says ... LeT It Goooooo & focus your efforts on the good, needy, lonely ones, kind ones, servant heart ones & be all in ✅. #waledchat
A1: A successful help story would be finding a way to help a school that desperately needed to erase former Ss off of shared iPads. I love when I’ve done something recently and can pull that knowledge instantaneously to help others. #waledchat
A5. I am helping a high school friend that just got custody of his youngest daughter. They all have had a difficult life and I can at least offer some financial support from half way across this wonderful country! #waledchat
A5 My colleagues and I have been helping families clean out houses, pick up storm debris, and feed families in need. We will continue to do so until our students and families get back on their feet. #waledchat
A5: A colleague is due with her first baby around othe end of October. I can make a couple of freezer meals that would be easy to pull out and heat up on one of those long newborn days/nights. #waledchat
A4) it has def taught me perseverance but also try new approaches. Sometimes wording something different can help. ...and sometimes it doesn’t but I at least try. #waledchat
A4: It was a crossroads moment where I had to embrace the fact that not everybody was going to love all my ideas, even if it would make life easier. A college professor once told me, "It takes all kinds to make the world go round." To each their own. #waledchat
