A chat where literacy education students, preservice teachers, and literacy mentors connect to discuss research and practice, share ideas, and meet new mentors for professional learning.
Good Morning, Everyone! I’m Susan Vincent and I teach preservice teachers at Miami University’s regional campus in Ohio. We are still on break and I’m traveling so my tweets are prescheduled! #preservicelit
A1. My #oneword is really two words and it’s “babysteps.” I get intimidated by big things I need to do and I want to just see large goals as a series of small, do-able goals....baby steps! What small step can I take today? #preservicelit
I am thrilled to hear that! Please send me any monthly topics that might work for your classes so we can get topics scheduled. I'd love help tackling ideas and questions! #preservicelit
This is great, Susan. So often, we get caught up in grand ideas, but change starts one step at a time. Have you seen @HeinemannPub new piece on 5%? I will find the link and post it! #preservicelit
So.. I am feeling REALLY good & went 2 school 2day & hung up my kids’ #oneword2019 in hall & also a little New Year’s surprises so we can celebrate 2gether 🎉🎈🎈🎉. If you are one of my parents: Shhhh 🤫🤫
Surprising kiddos with my return Monday- supposed to return on 15th😱❤️
Good morning #preservicelit So happy to join this am from NYC. My #oneword for the year is CURIOSITY....curiosity about my students' growth, my growth, learning, etc.
I'm will be reading Draper's Blended soon for our #ECmiddlegradesbookclub and then I would like to catch up on my professional journal reading in 2019! What are your favorite professional journals? #preservicelit
A2: Where to start? I'm reading P.S: I Still Love You by @jennyhan with my daughter, The Stink Series by Megan McDonald with one son and All American Boys by @JasonReynolds83 with the other. Oh, and Rain Reign by @AuthorAnnMartin for myself! #preservicelit
A2: My #teacherreadinggoals are to find #just10minutes each day for reading with my children to remind them the power than books have over screens. I also want to write more reviews so authors can learn the impact their book had on my thinking. #preservicelit
Currently reading Swing, and After the Shot, Sweep and a few others are in the stack. My reading goal is just to read for enjoyment each night. #preservicelit
Oh, I just finished 'We Got This' if you want to chat! I just made it required reading for my #UAELTL500 class this Spring. Powerful reading! #preservicelit

Can you believe it? It is time for the third question! Reply, retweet or create a new tweet with your response, but don’t forget to add A3 and the #preservicelit hashtag!
A3: I am re-committing myself to my writing notebook. I'll be teaching an online writing class for teachers and writing alongside of them as we think about writing instruction for students. #preservicelit#UAELTL615
A3. This relates to my one word of baby steps. I hope to try to set smaller, more frequent writing habits. (And now we are boarding, so that’s it for me this morning! Great to connect as always!!) #preservicelit
So appreciate you joining us from the airport, Susan! Hope to see you in February! Let me know what topic you might want to explore with your students! #preservicelit
Katie, I just signed up for your blog! This looks amazing! Thank you so much for sharing! @ktkelly14@lester_laminack Will go buy your book right now! Such a great resource! #preservicelit

Here it is! Our final #preservicelit question of the chat. Reply, retweet or create a new tweet with your response, but don’t forget to add A4 and the #preservicelit hashtag!
A4: My children face the challenge of finding time during the school day to reconnect with reading for the sake of enjoyment. My solution? I'll be sharing @ProjectLITComm with teachers and donating books to get the reading started! #preservicelit
A4: I also see resources as a challenge for building the classroom libraries we know students deserve. Learn more about @LitCoachConnect's Classroom Library Makeover here for tips and ideas! https://t.co/nFHdjBCujI#preservicelit
I want to hear more about this @AffinitoLit Our family just started an informal book club! So excited. We just finished Eleanor and Park by @rainbowrowell and LOVED it! So powerful for our children to see my husband and me reading alongside them!! #preservicelit

I love this, Susie. A family book club is such a great idea. I know you would love @ProjectLITComm and can share more on how I embed it into my courses. Looks like we have an agenda for our next meeting! #preservicelit

I thread a focus on building a PLN (and our own reading and writing lives) throughout all of my courses. I'm experimenting with hyperdocs for personalized teacher learning around this and can share some of this work, if you are interested! #preservicelit
