#K12Talent chat is for K-12 HR professionals or any school leader interested in learning more about human capital leadership. Topics include: rewards/recognition, recruiting, hiring, interviewing, difficult employees.
A2. New teachers reported on 8/3/18 for 3 days of New Teacher Orientation, then joined returning teachers who arrived on 8/7/18. Students came #backtoschool on 8/13/18 #K12Talent
A3 Teachers new to CMS participate in three days of orientation. Day 1 is an overview of SPED, and an intro to our technology & systems. Day 2 is introduction to the NM teacher evaluation. Day 3 covers instructional resources, benefits and the mentor program #K12Talent
A3: D13 provides some time with peer mentors, access to building and division leaders, and some legal training through the @DuPageROE - very valuable! #K12Talent
A4 Each school or site plans get togethers for their staff either during the work day or evening. As a district we have a large convocation for every employee on the Friday morning prior to #backtoschool. We hire motivational speakers or entertainers for this event #K12Talent
A4: I love that our middle school does a “Welcome back boot camp” for incoming 6th graders and the K-5 buildings host a “Meet the teacher” event before the first official day. Starts the year with Positivity (is that a word?) #K12Talent
A5 With Title II $$ we give new teachers a bag with books, a district spirit shirt, discount coupons & free teacher-type items. Returning staff can buy the t-shirts for less. McDonald's gave every employee a free breakfast sandwich coupon as they entered convocation #K12Talent
A5 Our community gives a great deal to the every district employee during teacher appreciation week in May, so we don't solicit free items or give-aways for returning staff at t#backtoschool #K12Talent
A6 Our United Way @UWENM conducts #backtoschool Stuff the Bus, which generated back packs and school supplies for students in need. @CannonAFB_ provides each child with the base a backpack and school supplies at their #backtoschool bash #K12Talent
A6 Area churches also provide #backtoschool backpacks filled with school supplies. We always have more school supplies than we need due to their generosity. Teacher's needs for their supplies are handled by the district #K12Talent
A5: The PTOs and Education Foundation gift the new teachers and returning staff, I pass a lapel pin logo of the District when I meet the new teachers - nothing expensive, but high in emotional value #K12Talent
A7 I love New Teacher Orientation & on-boarding. Principals and directors are involved and make the information meaningful. The way principals team up to provide a full day of orientation @ the evaluation system is incredible. They make it real for the new teachers #K12Talent
A7: The people, the people, the people. I work with the best in service to the finest students in Illinois. Who wouldn’t be excited about that? #K12Talent
A8 It's challenging to get late hires processed & ready for the first day. Principals want their teachers, but we can't always get them in the classroom on the 1st day w/students due to the lag in processing at the state level #K12Talent.
@_AASPA_ A7: Our community hosts welcome back breakfasts and lunches for our teachers. I love seeing our teachers celebrate and compete for spirit awards during the event. #K12Talent!
A9 #backtoschool represents new beginnings and the limitless opportunities for all of us as we meet each new day. How wonderful it would be if we could maintain this hope and excitement everyday #personalgoals#K12Talent
A9: Enjoy these moments, smile more, share a little of yourself and listen to the excitement among your staff. These are a few ways to be the difference in creating positive, caring learning environments for your communities. #K12Talent
