It's 8:30 on a Wednesday...time for some #txed love! I'm Paul, an ITS from Richmond, TX. Who is joining us tonight? Please take a second to introduce yourself.
Q1: Maintaining a positive campus culture can be a roller coaster ride from year-to-year. Why is it important to the culture of a campus/district to have ALL educators supporting each other to help make everyone SHINE? #TXed
Sooo I completely thought yesterday was Wednesday and I was bummed I missed our #TXed chat. Later discovered it was Tuesday!
#TGITuesday#didijustsaythat
Monica, school counselor here!
Q1: Maintaining a positive campus culture can be a roller coaster ride from year-to-year. Why is it important to the culture of a campus/district to have ALL educators supporting each other to help make everyone SHINE? #TXed
A1 Teaching is a very rewarding, but difficult job that can be 24-7. The more support we have the better. The stronger the team, the better for kids. #txed
A1: This time of year content and achievement becomes such a focus point but we can't forget how each person in the building makes a difference and that we have to look out for each other, esp when stress can be very common. #TXed
#txed A1 Just my opinion, but if the principal #walksthetalk about a positive culture, it WILL infiltrate down. When you wake up and want to go to work for 28 years I think it is my priority to spread this #joy to my coworkers. The following is my cycle of #positve and #joy
Q1: Maintaining a positive campus culture can be a roller coaster ride from year-to-year. Why is it important to the culture of a campus/district to have ALL educators supporting each other to help make everyone SHINE? #TXed
A1: Sounds cliche, but together we rise and divided we fall. If we are so busy worrying about internal nonsense and disagreements, we certainly can’t stand against any adversity from outside the organization that may come along. #txed
Q1: Maintaining a positive campus culture can be a roller coaster ride from year-to-year. Why is it important to the culture of a campus/district to have ALL educators supporting each other to help make everyone SHINE? #TXed
A1 Because #teachersdeserveit and #KidsDeserveIt ! Everyone has different strengths and passions. We need each other to help meet all our Ss needs! #TXed

Hello #txed peeps! Ashley May from Houston. Haven’t been home longer than an hour, so I’ll be ‘stalking the chat tonight’ but not answering many questions. Looking forward to learning from the sidelines tonight. TIA
A campus that supports one another is a campus that works. Morale in the workplace is important, but we work w/ kids. They notice everything we do and in return they learn from our behavior. Showing support and empathy will carry over to what they do too. #TXed
Q1: Maintaining a positive campus culture can be a roller coaster ride from year-to-year. Why is it important to the culture of a campus/district to have ALL educators supporting each other to help make everyone SHINE? #TXed
A1: some days it feels like your teaching buddies are all you have! We need to support each other because we have hard jobs! #lovemyjob#TXed@faro_neisd@jdamiani13
A1: because when one shines, we all shine. It’s important for our kids to see that even in stressful times, we are being supportive of each other. #txed
A1 #TXed We are all so much stronger together. Without a genuine collaborative effort, there are obvious "holes" the students will be able to "poke thru" similar to the mom vs. dad mode in families.
A1: Ideas from one person combined with another makes things more engaging for the students and fun to teach for the teachers right @mmurphy1964 ?? #TXED
Q1: Maintaining a positive campus culture can be a roller coaster ride from year-to-year. Why is it important to the culture of a campus/district to have ALL educators supporting each other to help make everyone SHINE? #TXed
We as educators are learners first, and nobody learns anything on an island but how to survive, if you are going to move past survival you have to look for ways to learn and grow from your peers. #txed
It is imperative that we create the political will to fund our schools, prevent their privatization, honor our schoolteachers, and reaffirm public education as the cornerstone of American democracy and moral society. Justice demands it. Our children’s future depends on it.
A1) Any team is only as strong as its weakest link. Every toxic team member risks the attitude and effectiveness of the team members in his or her orbit. It takes all of us speaking LIFE to keep things positive. #TXed

A1-We as educators are learners first, and nobody learns anything on an island but how to survive, if you are going to move past survival you have to look for ways to learn and grow from your peers. #txed
A1 Either way it is a domino effect. If we focus on the positive the culture will be more positive! If we focus on the negative the culture will become more negative! #txed
A2 Many, many times when people are going through difficult times in their personal life or work life, I have seen the love and support coming without needing to ask. #veryblessed#txed
A2 our Make Their Day and Play nominations @BrenhamElem are so fun to read and see ppl nominating . @BrenhamISD Cub Compliment program and simple hand written notes #txed
A2: We have a wonderful bulletin board in our teachers lounge that has 2 sides one says “Play”- how teachers are caught “Playing” during the day and the other side is “Make their Day” and you share how someone made your day! #txed
A1: Negativity is contagious. When it spreads it can damage morale and your connections to your peers. Positivity is also contagious and we need that attitude to be able to help the students want to be there. #txed
A2: I like to just go into their classroom and give shoutout when I see awesome things happening. Also gives me a chance to see some awesome kiddos at work. #txed
#txed A2 I don't have a picture of it, but we have a shoutout board by the mailboxes at my school. There are post it notes and pens there. Trs write positive shout outs to Trs that have helped them. #Inspirational
A2: I don’t know about you, but I’m always a little pumped when I get tweeted out by somebody else 😇 I also use twitter to express thanks for all of the things I get to do because of the efforts of my colleagues. #txed
A2: Everything from a kind word to baked goods to noticing they are having a rough day. We can all be the person that notices the teacher that needs the Apple! #TXed
A2: We did an affirmation Station for staff members earlier in the year. Got great feedback from it! Staff members were able to write notes to each other and put in an envelope that we 'delivered' to their boxes - How-To blog post coming soon! #txed
A1 Keep it positive, look for your Marigolds, find your tribe, We are all on this ride together and we only live once. Don't spend it focusing on negatives, or it will consume you. #txed
A2: Our admin includes a shout-out section in our weekly notes, right at the top. It’s the first thing we see. Ts are constantly shouting out other Ts via Twitter. Our district also has a #P2PinAction campaign to highlight staff district wide. #TXed
@MsRaheelaShaikh put together a staff shout out board where staff could write notes of thanks and encouragement to each other and leave them in their envelopes #txed
A2 We have a starfish board. Teachers can nominate a staff member to be recognized. Staff also sent out Shout Out emails about staff members but sometimes a #RandomActsOfKindness can really go a very long way. #txed
A2: Let them know! I see you 5th grade teachers giving STAAR next week! 👀 All it takes sometimes is to let them know you see their efforts and remind them they make a difference. #txed#YouMatter
Q2: We are able to send out Shout Outs in the weekly newsletter sent out by the principal, as well as Terrific Tuesdays. (But I think a personal face-to-face comment is the best!) #TXed
A2: Secret sticky notes letting people know that they are fabulous! The sticky notes just “appear” They’re so much fun, and encourage a lot of smiles! #TXed
A2: I Love seeing teachers shout each other out on Social Media including Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram! I also enjoy seeing sticky notes of positive encouragement stuck to the doors of our fellow educators! #txed
Q3: In a blog post by Todd Nesloney, "as a principal, it's our job to steer the ship...but a school runs as a team, as a family." What are some ways educators support principals to help make them SHINE? #TXed (https://t.co/RAzUm8V3KW)
Q2: We are able to send out Shout Outs in the weekly newsletter sent out by the principal, as well as Terrific Tuesdays. (But I think a personal face-to-face comment is the best!) #TXed
We do this weekly as part of the campus weekly newsletter/email. As an admin I keep an email draft so I can publicly recognize people throughout the week the moment I notice something awesome, then I send it in on Friday before I leave. #txed
A2: Every leadership meeting, we begin by writing notes of gratitude to staff members. I've really loved this as a transition time while everyone is coming in and setting up. #txed
A2: I like seeing other staff members volunteer to help each other out when they are having a rough day or needing a little extra show of support. #txed
A2: We use our #Play and #MakeTheirDay board from the @fishphilosophy for staff to recognize their peers for making learning fun and caring for each other! #txed
A2: I’ve also stolen and adapted an idea from @DavidDenning2 - we have a traveling award that facilitators give each other to recognize going above and beyond to design learning experiences. Ours is called “where it’s @“ #TXed
Q2: We are able to send out Shout Outs in the weekly newsletter sent out by the principal, as well as Terrific Tuesdays. (But I think a personal face-to-face comment is the best!) #TXed

A3: Jump in and help where needed! They help teachers on a daily basis! It’s what family does for each other! Give them Shout Outs and show appreciation for what they do! #TXed
Q3: In a blog post by Todd Nesloney, "as a principal, it's our job to steer the ship...but a school runs as a team, as a family." What are some ways educators support principals to help make them SHINE? #TXed (https://t.co/RAzUm8V3KW)
A3 Principals need honest (yet well thought through) feedback and solutions. We can support our principals be being honest face:face and not just mumbling and grumbling. We impact change with solutions & vision not complaining #TXed
A2- we do shout outs at our staff meetings where on principal reads aloud a shout out someone made for a teacher. Some sign their shout outs and some don't! Helps bring some sunshine to a faculty meeting! ☺️🌞 #TXed
A3- the best way is to be specific when someone is doing something worth sharing, tell the teacher that they are really good at this, then challenge others to seek out that person as a resource for their professional growth. #txed

A3: Our principal has been adding some amazing family events. She asks for volunteers and so many smiling faces show up and give of their time to ensure the whole school community is having fun and growing! #txed
Face to face honesty really is support. If things aren't working for people we need to work towards a positive solution but we can't try to fix what we don't know. #TXed
I will never forget my unofficial mentor who during my 1st yr as a teacher who would take my 30 Ss for a period to give me a break. That was 28 years ago... #TXed#payitforward
A2: I like seeing other staff members volunteer to help each other out when they are having a rough day or needing a little extra show of support. #txed
A3) Principals need for every staff member to pull his and her weight, do the job. A principal who has to micromanage his or her team members cannot lead effectively. #TXed
Q3: In a blog post by Todd Nesloney, "as a principal, it's our job to steer the ship...but a school runs as a team, as a family." What are some ways educators support principals to help make them SHINE? #TXed (https://t.co/RAzUm8V3KW)
A3 I try to ask them how they're doing, especially when I notice they look stressed or tired. We tend to forget that our admin are people too. They feel isolated at times & need our support #TXed
A3: Just this week I have had numerous text messages, a surprise @sonicdrivein drink, a hug and an encouraging word in the car rider line and a surprise visit just to say “we love you!” Thankful for the support and kindness! #txed
Q3: In a blog post by Todd Nesloney, "as a principal, it's our job to steer the ship...but a school runs as a team, as a family." What are some ways educators support principals to help make them SHINE? #TXed (https://t.co/RAzUm8V3KW)
I’ve done the surprise sticky note and when I tweet out about “my” students, I make sure to refer to them as our school’s students. Everyone has a role in their successes, and everyone should be recognized #txed
A3: I've always built a great relationship with my principals. Honestly, just having a shared vision and speaking positive about them will help make them SHINE! #txed
Q3: In a blog post by Todd Nesloney, "as a principal, it's our job to steer the ship...but a school runs as a team, as a family." What are some ways educators support principals to help make them SHINE? #TXed (https://t.co/RAzUm8V3KW)

#txed A3: making sure you have a presence outside the school. Sharing ideas, leading Twitter chats, and leading PD allows your admin to shine because you are highlighting the strengths of the teachers in the school.

Q3- what I always notice is when my t/Inst. asst./support staff just do without it having to be a directive. That level of ownership for creating awesome stuff for s. Is inspiring. #txed
A3-I rather see the team giving 100% for the students and school. That makes me feel appreciated. People know why they are here and what our mission is #TXed

Q4: Shoutouts on social media and other "tech platforms" is a wonderful way to make your campus SHINE. What are some non-digital ways you've seen this accomplished on your campus or with your peers? #TXed
A3 (part 2): It's important to be able to look at any request from a principal from different perspectives so that you can keep a positive attitude which will keep the general morale up in your school. #txed
A3:) Since listening some to a principals podcast, I’ve been able to better understand my admin & her multitudinous duties. I have been able to say thank you for the new things I never knew she did before. #txed
Q4: Shoutouts on social media and other "tech platforms" is a wonderful way to make your campus SHINE. What are some non-digital ways you've seen this accomplished on your campus or with your peers? #TXed

#txed A3 NEVER EVER bad mouth your principal's decisions amongst your coworkers. If they are doing this, LEAVE THEIR PRESENCE! ALWAYS have faith in your principal. THEY ARE MAKING DECISIONS THAT ARE IN THE BEST INTERESTS OF THE KIDS! NOT YOU! Be a POSITIVE force in the hallways!
A4: our HS boys basketball team recently won the state title. That brought lots of good attention to the coaches and students and a sport other than football #TXed
A4- post-it’s, personally written notes on cub compliments from parents/superintendent, teachers saying to other teachers that they need their help in their area of expertise, emailing teachers in same grade on diff campus to check in and see if ok #TXed
A4: I like hitting up the @DollarTree and getting some different die-cuts. I write notes on the back and tape them around classrooms...I love seeing them hanging on teachers' boards months later. Today I had super heroes 🤓 #txed
A4 I want to try leaving a sticky note behind when I visit a classroom of something positive that I see. Positive notes and shout outs at staff meetings are fun too. #txed
A4: I've seen educators write each other positive, encouraging notes and stick them on each others doors. Even when these notes are not directed toward me, it makes me smile while walking down the hall. #txed#seaofcubs@BrenhamElem@BrenhamISD
A3: When you have @PollyRyonMS Staff willing to go the extra mile with the confetti egg bash to raise theater money and a chubby bunny contest...you buy ALL 38 of them @sonicdrivein drinks! #TXed#appreciatethem
Q4: Shoutouts on social media and other "tech platforms" is a wonderful way to make your campus SHINE. What are some non-digital ways you've seen this accomplished on your campus or with your peers? #TXed
A4: We invite district staff as well as newspapers/ media to our school to see the awesomeness in action! :) this results in positive talk and sometimes positive news articles about our school #txed
A4 Post projects in the hall, or better yet, do the project in the hallway. We use painter's tape to tape off dorm room floor plans on the hall floor and then hang a sign with the name of the college and dorm price. #txed
A4: many teachers have an innate characteristic to nurture. I see the teachers on my campus lifting each other up and helping one another daily. Notes, hugs, smiles...they all go a very long way. Kindness in its purest form. #txed
Weekly Calendars, Morning announcements, visiting classrooms and telling the students how awesome their teachers are doing, and taking time to visit with them in person!#txed
Q4: Shoutouts on social media and other "tech platforms" is a wonderful way to make your campus SHINE. What are some non-digital ways you've seen this accomplished on your campus or with your peers? #TXed
We do weekly shoutouts for staff in our weekly email, we also have a 🍍 board for sharing great ideas, and we start every staff gatherings with positives and kudos. I also like to give high fives a lot #txed
A4: When we see folks wearing jeans on our Spirit days. We may not know why, but the campus knows they’ve gone above and beyond to earn the jeans pass. #TxEd
A4: Creating a non-digital "bandit board" in the office or staff lounge is a great way to help each other SHINE! Share teaching ideas, and shout-out your fellow educators! #banditboard#txed Non-digital version of Twitter. :)
A4) Faculty meetings are famous for being bummers and an all-around drag. Inject some life into these get-togethers by asking team members to recognize one another's shining moments. You'll be surprised what colleagues notice. #TXed
Q4: Shoutouts on social media and other "tech platforms" is a wonderful way to make your campus SHINE. What are some non-digital ways you've seen this accomplished on your campus or with your peers? #TXed
Q5: A team member has lost their SHINE. You also notice their lack of shine has introduced negativity to the team or campus. How can we help address this concern with them? #TXed
A4: We have a teacher tidbits book where each teacher fills in the blanks on all their favorites. It’s meant for parents to have ideas for teacher gifts, but I go in there to get good ideas for those special “thank yous” #txed
Thank you, brother. To saythat life has been insane for longer than I can remember is the understatement of the century. It's goodtoo see you all again. #TXed
A4: We have a shoutout board in the lounge and people post their shoutouts. It’s fun to see how people work together to make our school that much better for the tinies. #TXed
Q5: A team member has lost their SHINE. You also notice their lack of shine has introduced negativity to the team or campus. How can we help address this concern with them? #TXed
A5: Use a little “honesty” compound to get that shine back! However, tact and diplomacy are a must! These situations are one of the reasons that strong relationships are of paramount importance. #txed
A5: For me the key word is “notice” I would straight out sit with that person and let them know that you have noticed they are not themselves and ask what you can do to help them. #TXed
Q5: A team member has lost their SHINE. You also notice their lack of shine has introduced negativity to the team or campus. How can we help address this concern with them? #TXed
Great idea! I think it was @TechNinjaTodd who was telling me he leaves the sticky notes on the outside of the door so everyone else can see the great things their peers are doing too. #txed
#txed A5 This usually happens then they lose the Tr / St relationship #joy. Remind them of why they teach. ITS ALL ABOUT THE KIDS! When they regenerate the St / Tr Relationships there #joy will return. Continue to be a #Positive source of joy in the halls.
A5-A big part of any successful organization is trust. Trust allows us to have these type of conversations without having the the fear of rebuttal #TXed
A5: I prefer to take these convos off campus. As a coach, some things don't have anything to do with school. We're humans and we have real-life things happening to us in/out of school. Having coffee or 🍷allows me to get to know the person, not just the teacher. #txed
A5: I try to ask how I can help. I know there have been times when I lost my shine, and sometimes having someone to talk to, without judgement, can make all the difference. #TxEd
A5 Give attention to your relationship. Find out if they have any needs or concerns that you might be able to help relieve. Be supportive and encouraging. #TXed
Q5: A team member has lost their SHINE. You also notice their lack of shine has introduced negativity to the team or campus. How can we help address this concern with them? #TXed
A5:) Start with listening. Most people just want to be heard. Then do some external appreciating. One of the most frequent reasons teachers leave is because they did not feel appreciated. #txed
A5 Listen to them, it solves so many problems! You may also offer to cover a duty to lighten their load for the day, chocolate, homemade treat, or remind them of the good things you have seen in their students and classroom. #txed
Q5-As admins we control quite a few situations on campus Todd Whitaker has lots of good ideas for how to relight someone’s candle. Taking the time to listen to find out what’s going on and at times pulling out the positives for a t is often the best way #txed
A4) tech platforms MATTER!! They connect ALL stakeholders to celebrate and support one another. If teachers shine, students glow! Campus pot lucks, step challenges, shout outs at staff meetings. Building relational capacity means acknowledging & celebrating ALL!!! #TXed
A4 - I had a principal who would write me a note saying something positive every time she would visit my class. It was so uplifting! Her actions/words said, “I see you. I see what you’re doing.” Years later, I still have my notes. It made me want to do better. #txed
A5 Ask, LISTEN, and care enough to call out the negativity. No one comes into education to become a downer..we need to be reminded if we are causing ourselves or others to stumble. Reality isn't pleasant but when spoken with love is truth #TXed
A5 I always try to remember to pass on positive things I hear from parents and students. We do not always hear the positive as loud as the negative. #txed
Q5: A team member has lost their SHINE. You also notice their lack of shine has introduced negativity to the team or campus. How can we help address this concern with them? #TXed
A5: our job is stressful! Help them remember their "why?". This time of year (with all the testing especially) it is so easy to lose sight and start wondering why we do this. Let them vent, but work to bring back their shine and reconnect with their why. #TXed
A5 If a teacher loses his or her shine and tends to be negative, ask something like, “ Hey, I’ve noticed you lost your shine and tend to be negative, what’s up with that?” #txed
A5) just like we do in our classrooms, call attention to the negative vibes, work together to identify feelings and open the floor for suggestions on how the campus wants to rebuild and refocus! To avoid, be intential & proactive about building staff relations! #Txed
A5: spend time with them and listen to how they’re feeling. Sometimes they just need a listening ear to get back on track. Positivity can build anyone up. Also, a smile and a good joke go a long way. #TXed
A5-Somtimes the negativity might not have to deal with work. We all go through battles that others don't see. Sometimes you just need to let them know that you are willing to listen #TXed
A3) take a piece of the load! If your campus needs oncampus PD, offer to lead it! If your campus needs a positive influence, be that person! Take on a role to boast energy and moral! #TXed
A5-Somtimes the negativity might not have to deal with work. We all go through battles that others don't see. Sometimes you just need to let them know that you are willing to listen #TXed

Were your ears burning, @HoustonISD ? We just told Senate Ed about the great job you are doing with community schools! Thanks for your leadership! @HFT2415#txed#txlege
We did this with staff and students this year! Teachers sent in requests to Our FAB APs! Then they called student parents just to share the good things that were said and they wrote notes to staff just to tell them that they matter! #txed
Each one of the bilingual and ESL teachers need a huge shout out for all the work with TELPAS! Jenkins, our school counselor, who is assisting in numerous areas from Ss and Ts, to the community! @EctorCountyISD#txed

#letitshine@taniajackson_ is so inspiring! She works so hard to think of new and creative ideas! Plus, she loves to read and gushes about the books to her kids. She lets her kids take ownership so they feel like they’re all a team. ⭐️ #txed
@pwagnerlcisd for always being innovative and fixing my messes since 2006, @MichaelSemmler for always pushing me to think about all sides of the situation, and @LCISDSecondary for being our biggest supporter and best boss lady ever! #txed#LetitShine
Q6- #4 my entire Autism Unit seriously you have no idea until you lived and they always end their day with a smile no matter what they have been through. #txed
Because it’s everyone responsibility. Whether they like it or not. One bad apple, you know. Besides who would want to be at a place where they aren’t willing to be part of something special. Each person has special to contribute. #txed
Q1: Maintaining a positive campus culture can be a roller coaster ride from year-to-year. Why is it important to the culture of a campus/district to have ALL educators supporting each other to help make everyone SHINE? #TXed
#LetitShine to @MsClark765 . I LOVE how much you care about your students and how you are always trying to find ways to motivate your students! You’re the book review queen 🐝!! #txed
A1: It can be easy to get caught up in the stress that comes with being an educator, we need each other for that positive reminder that it will be ok #TXed
#txed@MrQFloyd@FredBlackGRHS and @MrRyburnGRHS are 3 of the 4 Mt Rushmore people of spiritual faith of my coworkers. They are my spiritual anchors. Just seeing their presence recharges my batteries. They are also #OnTheWall
Q6- #5 Angie McCluskey for a coach I’ve never seen her sweat the small stuff or the big stuff, since her arrival our Female Athletics program has completely turned a 180 #txed
At my campus people realize that everyone has so much on their plate that everyone is willing to put more on their own plate if it will help someone else out. Being small makes sharing the work load difficult. I’m lucky to work with people who are willing to do that. #txed
#letitshine to @pweirb3. She’s got the best outlook and the sweetest demeanor! She’s such a team player, and you can’t help but be happy and positive around her! #TXed
#txed Just saying, this chat is directly talked about in my book that will is scheduled to hit the book shelves this fall. #AlwaysBelieve This summer at the @LamarCISD T3 conference I have submitted a lesson that covers this. 28 years of teaching. <3 my job.
A3: Our principal does a great job of letting us feel that we are in a safe space to share so in turn we should do our best to implement the things that are asked of us without fuss knowing he is looking at the bigger picture #TXed
I encourage my staff to push me for better. When we are willing to see different perspectives & learn from each other we move the system forward. It requires a lot of trust. One person shouldn’t have all the answers. As P, we steer the ship. Together we chart the course. #txed

Q5: A team member has lost their SHINE. You also notice their lack of shine has introduced negativity to the team or campus. How can we help address this concern with them? #TXed
