A1: This book has profoundly changed my approach to instructional planning and life in general. I've learned to resist looking too far forward or too far back. This book has encouraged me to make the most of every moment. #pln365
Fran from NJ...
This book taught me about differentiating Instruction. It was one of the first books I read and studied when I began my teaching career. #pln365
A2: February is Kindness Month in our building When the counselor pulled out "The Bucket Filer" book, my kids told her, "Mrs. Jenkins already read that to us!!" Lol. I spend the first 6 wks of school building a community! #pln365
A2: Read-alouds provide more meaningful understanding of words in context and through voice. Great conversations can also be created by exposing literature through these means. #pln365
A2b: In addition, self-selected texts provide readers with opportunities to merge high-interest topics with themes that are essential to future readiness. #pln365
I love all books by @juliacookonline for elementary kids. There isn’t an issue she hasn’t written about when it comes to social emotional learning! @NCYI#pln365
Q3: Why is it important to transfer opportunities for knowledge and best practices from leadership sources outside of education into our school buildings and classrooms? #pln365
A2 #SEL read alouds give students the ability to connect and reason with ideas that they may struggle with. It’s a more natural approach that they will work on more than a discussion. #pln365
A2: read aloud at any age are inspiring. They use all the feels instead of using imperatives. Kids tune out imperatives. They must hear 134,454,744,755 a day. I know I do! But they don’t hear feelings. And when they feel all the feels, they relate and are engaged. #pln365
A3 Our students must be able to be self sufficient and determined to do more once they leave school. Why not instill values they can utilize daily to help them? #pln365
A3 education doesn’t have a moratorium on leadership or best practices we can learn from a variety of people and should our students won’t always be in school #pln365
A3: I’m going to have to give a shout out to one of my favs, @ScottOste! He came from the business world and brings such a new perspective to education for me. I’ve learned so much by being in his presence!!! #pln365
A2 We just finished reading Fences in class. I selected it so Ss could react to the themes. It was quite successful. They were personally involved and begged to read each day. There were lots of exclamations as we read. #pln365
A3: Hey #PLN365 Fam: Leadership is Beyond Silos within Buildings. It is imperative that we empower Ts, Ss, and Ps to grow as Global Citizens and Leaders.
Q3: Why is it important to transfer opportunities for knowledge and best practices from leadership sources outside of education into our school buildings and classrooms? #pln365
Powerful..Love the term "humanity mindset"! Conversations must be had regarding cultural responsiveness. True, many unaware of their own bias &2 many afraid 2 bring it up resulting in unfortunate status quo! #weleaded#atplc#pln365#4ocf@RosaIsiah@D4Griffin3@PaulONeill1972
Got up early this morning to write a new blog post entitled, SCHOOL & CLASSROOM EQUITY…A Reflection of Your Humanity and a Window to Your Soul. Check it out and share with someone who could benefit. https://t.co/s3HkU8V1IE
A2: Small group read alouds give opportunities for student discussions that are on topics of interest. When students select their own text, they are more motivated and engaged in the reading and discussions. #pln365
@SporLin is my hero!! Her gave a word to what I've always believed in my teaching career. You can't do the Bloom's stuff without first doing the Maslow's stuff!! #PLN365
A4 we have to share what we are reading including it in our story sharing it with Ts and putting it to use conduct book studies and have conversations and collaborate on how we can incorporate what we have learned #pln365
A3 Our kids need to see "success" but defined in different ways. My daughter has a 49 IQ. She is a lab tech at our local pediatric hospital. She's successful. It's important to see that we all have a place of leadership that we can call our own #pln365
A4 Administrators are still learners themselves & they find new ways to reach and teach students and their staff. Leading people takes dedication and growth on both sides. #pln365
A3: We are teaching skills that are essential NOW and not just preparing Ss for an unknown future. So it's important to engage the community outside school and create opportunities to work together. School shouldn't be a bubble detached from real life. #pln365
A3 Life does not happen in a bubble. Fences allowed a perspective on how things were & how far we have come. I also pulled in events from the time period. Ss can't be afraid to discuss something that is emotionally charged but have to approach it open to other's opinions. #pln365
Thanks! I 💕this story in Hebrew: "A fence, a sheep and a man with a problem". I'm sure you'll figure it by the illustrations and google translate. #pln365https://t.co/lWMrsFjJP1
A2: Read-alouds model pronunciation & provide differentiation for auditory learners while motivating Ss to read. Self-selected texts with themes in SEL give Ss autonomy & introduce them to life skills they may use to tackle obstacles & cope w potential stressors in life #pln365
I challenged the belief that JR broke the color barrier with an article about S Paige laying the groundwork in the NL. Sports offers an universal language but it allowed them to see that while 1 gets there credit many are involved 1st.#pln365
A3: What Ss learn within the boundaries of their school building should be applicable to things they will experience beyond those walls. This increases relevance, which can increase S motivation #pln365
A4 Leading successfully takes an open mind and a willingness to try new things as well as their trust in the staff. Creativity flourishes when choice is encouraged. #pln365
A3: We are not just teaching content, we are teaching our students life long skills they will need to use when they leave the classroom and beyond. #pln365
One great reason to remember that content is the vehicle used to deliver the supplies which are the skills and information that S's will use to make sense of the world. #pln365
A4: Personally, reading books written by other passionate/experienced educators has opened my eyes to a plethora of instructional strategies and educational mindsets. In turn, my Ss benefit from the things I learn along the way #PLN365
A4 As an Instructional Coach/Reading Specialist, I read journals & attend conferences that will support me & the work I do w/ teachers. I would imagine an admin would do the same thing; read professional material that will help them positively impact student learning #pln365
