Andy, #innovationclass teacher from St. Charles, I had a granola bar as I realized I was traveling on a flooded road that I couldn't pass and made me late to a fantastic training... #MOedchat
Julie Gambill, Gam, Poplar Bluff Junior High School ELA 8, Poplar Bluff where I had a bacon biscuit from the Hucks while washing it down with a Diet Dr. Pepper. YUM! #moedchat
My daughter gets strep anytime anyone in MO gets strep, so I am blaming you and your kids this time and yes, you deserve the popsicle! I think I'll have one now... #MOedchat

Good evening, #moedchat! Darin from NE Iowa, and today, I had three egg whites, spinach, a little cheddar cheese all cooked up wrapped in a tortilla! :)
A1 This year I started #passionprojects with 5th graders to learn about whatever they want and show their learning how they want, it has been a challenge, but they love it... so far #moedchat
A1 by leaving the openings, students can discuss with other students and receive validation. Validation from me is a secondary thing when compared to other students #MOedchat

A1 I ask Ss to fill out a Google Form at beginning of school year asking Qs: what they like to do in free time, favorites, and what they would like for me to know about them. Last Q always stumps them but is also their longest answer. Helps me plan #makered purchases. #moedchat

A1: Any project where students can assume ownership through topic or medium (type of projects) were things I prioritize as a teacher and help to encourage in my new role as a curriculum coordinator. #moedchat
Have students create something that solves a problem that someone else is having. I do this with recycle robots with @birdbraintech hummingbird sets #moedchat
I stole this idea from @Learn21Tech Lisa is the best. Have students use materials around the to construct a robot. Usually the frame is Legos or vex frames and the outside is plastic or cardboard #moedchat

A1: I had students use their Macs to create videos based on text structure. Many chose sequence: how to videos. My Ss loved to cook and show how they did things they enjoyed. They LOVED the project. They had to include text with the speaking. #moedchat
A2: My bldg admin allows me to allow my students to use the campus for photography, video recording, and audio projects. Ss KNOW they have to be trusted to make this work. They have to have passes, and they have to meet back at class in a timely manner. They work! #moedchat
A1: It's vital for SPED teams to invite students (especially at the secondary level) to their IEP meetings. There is nothing cooler than having a student as an active member on their IEP team, advocating for their needs. #moedchat

A2 We are a @TheLeaderinMe school so that exists all over, in my class I have #ninjaprojects where kids get to do special, non-curricular things that they take charge of (i.e. holograph table, spooky ghosts, retro gaming station, etc.) #moedchat

Q2 When in our innovation lab for makerspace Wednesdays, Ss work on self-selected projects. Some becoming 'experts' in certain areas such as operating sewing machine or preparing 3D printer, etc. #moedchat
Q2 Older Ss teach #digcit topics to Ss in younger grades. Prepare topics and materials. Great way to develop leadership skills on their terms. #moedchat
A2: Last yr I started a @Raspberry_Pi badge system where students had to pass different skills to move up levels. Then they showed the other students how to do the skill so they could level up too. #moedchat
a2 I explain the long-term import of HS math in family meetings at the beginning of the yr, but not all Ss get there. Those that do help the others understand in ways that adults can't get through. Those convos make great emails, too! #moedchat
A1 After our unit on Manifest Destiny in US History, Anna, who was really into poetry/spoken word performed for the class a poem she wrote from the perspective of a Native American. It left the class speechless. It was so good. #moedchat
That specialization is huge because students can take on various leadership roles. I hope to see this happen and evolve in our Innovation Spaces. Such a great opportunity for student leadership. #moedchat
@HeFields3 started a student leadership team at @Steger6Center & the students are involved in helping make decisions & leading different events. This student reflected in her science website lab book about it. #moedchat
A3: My second hour Ss all wrote on a post-it note a subject that they would like to research I told them that I would tailor research assignments according to their interests. They weren't so sure to believe me. Silly KIDS! Gam follows through! #moedchat
We have math wars where students get so excited about proving they are right that I had to put tennis balls on the chair legs to keep them from disturbing other classes. They have to learn to keep within reasonable bounds.. #moedchat
A2: Last yr I started a @Raspberry_Pi badge system where students had to pass different skills to move up levels. Then they showed the other students how to do the skill so they could level up too. #moedchat
While I got you all on here, have any of you heard that MAP scores will not be released on the 29th as DESE had first said? I'm hearing second week of Nov now. #moedchat
A2 Noticed many artist in the classroom, so asked them to give me their favorite drawings and put together a simple class magazine to foster classroom culture. Students started to write mini-editorials in their spare time. #moedchat

This is that relationship building, student empowerment kind of thing that I'm talking about. You get 10 points! And I'm borrowing the idea too! #moedchat

A3: Had Ss use selfies/traditional photos/famous portraits to explain the change in emotions the main character experienced. Ss had to explain how the non-verbal cues in the visuals supported the written description found in the text. #moedchat
A2: I sponsored a club called Boys to Gentlemen for 4th/5th grade students. We learned about leadership, did school service projects, & mentored younger students. Kids rise to the occasion when given leadership roles. #moedchat
A3 I have started #passionprojects that allow students to create a project based on their own interests, they have to hold themselves to their own standards, I have minimal input on what they make and what judges the quality #MOedchat
A3: These kiddos loved to build, solve problems, were interested in water equity, & enjoyed teaching others. They made water filtration devices after researching big topics like Flint, Michigan, local lead in water, how water filtration works. #moedchat
Honestly my 4th graders did something similar to this. Nontraditional activities so often goes to gifted students, but it is in fact exactly what underserved or underperforming youth directly benefits from doing. #moedchat

A2 About 1/4 of the middle school Ss answered that they wrote music in the spare time. Looking for ways to incorporate and encourage their development in music writing. Writing theme music for student news show, creating original scores for videos, etc. #moedchat

I explain the need to teach Ss to write technical stuff bc parents may not understand "documentation" and the need for ppl in modern work places to be able to read and write it. I've talked w/a whole lot of frustrated managers. #moedchat

After a long week last week and then conferences this week, I am beat. I am going to take off, but I want to thank @TechieTcher for leading tonight! Have a great Friday everyone! #MOedchat
A4b - a barrier is an unawareness that the values we hold aren’t necessarily values our students or families of color hold. Unwritten rules of society definitely exist and inhibit those who are not inherently part of the group. #MOEdChat
