Hey #tlap! Alicia from NC - lead digital learning and media innovation facilitator at an incredibly awesome STEM magnet middle school! One of my fave characters is Curious George, love his inquisitive mind.
Hey everyone!! My name is Ryne and I am an instructional coach from the @olatheschools. I get the privilege of working with @olathenewed under @JasonHermanON and @ChrisZuck this school year! My favorite book to read my kids at bedtime currently is the Little Red Racing Car. #TLAP
Ariel Jankord from Olathe! I teach 4th grade. My favorite book character is Lilly from #KevinHenkes books! I think she reminds me a little of myself when I was younger. #tlap
Hi, my name is Andrea Paulakovich, and I am from Olathe, KS. I am on special assignment this year as the Assistant Director of Learning Services. My favorite character from a book is Boo from Monsters Inc. #tlap
Good evening #tlap I'm Jay, an elementary principal from NJ and my favorite character is John Galt from Atlas Shrugged - “If you don't know, the thing to do is not to get scared, but to learn.”
Haley Schafer. 3rd grade teacher. #MexMO Favorite book character would have to be Junie B. Jones. But my team and I are dressing up as Alvin and the Chipmunks this week! 📚 #tlap
Hellloooooooooo #tlap!!! Kristen here from PA! I teach 6th grade physical science. Not to brag or anything, but I actually knew the answers to my 4 year old’s zillion questions about biology tonight!
Good Evening #tlap I am Maegan Ruport, 11th grade US History and 12th grade American Govt/AP Govt teacher from Olathe, KS. My favorite bedtime story growing up was The Stinky Cheeseman!
A1: I began to formulate a plan that included a Layered Curriculum. Students would have choice in process, content, and product. #PersonalizedBOOM#tlap
A1: Back up & review with a new angle. IE after several days of area and perimeter teaching my Ss were all over the place. I tossed my plans and we went back to the start but with LEGOS this time. A new angle for those getting it and an engaging task to hook struggling Ss! #tlap
A1:...video reviews! Use video to reteach a concept kids missed the first time. Find a unique/memorable location and start shooting. This is a video I recorded at the pizza place where I used to work to review simile/metaphor: https://t.co/4ZwhDrSGoe#tlap
Hey #tlap crew! I’m Greg, an elementary school principal from Northern California, and the best bedtime stories are the ones written by @SandyBoynton, especially Barynyard Dance! Who doesn’t love cows, pigs, and horses dancing?
Haley Schafer. 3rd grade teacher. #MexMO Favorite book character would have to be Junie B. Jones. But my team and I are dressing up as Alvin and the Chipmunks this week! 📚 #tlap
A1: ... a plan that included re-teaching after re-thinking my objectives. Sounds like I've not clarified what I hope the Ss to learn. Clarify, come up with a new hook and plan, teach, think and reflect #tlap
Favorite literary characters, hmmmm... Ralph from LotF; Prometheus from Anthem; Howard Roark from Fountainhead; Janie from Their Eyes Were Watching God, Mama from Raisin in the Sun... Any protagonist from anything Star Wars related!!! #tlap
A1: what do I want them to know? How can I use multiple intelligences to teach and assess in different ways to make sure I can accurately determine what they know and don’t know?! #tlap
Hey #tlap fam! Scott 9-10th Grade ELA Cali. My favorite bedtime story to read is “The True Story of the Three Little Pigs” Pleased to pass it onto my kiddos!
Comes straight from the Captain @burgessdave - that's where I first hear about creating experiences and not lessons. It's stuck with me for nearly 5 years. #tlap
A1:...video reviews! Use video to reteach a concept kids missed the first time. Find a unique/memorable location and start shooting. This is a video I recorded at the pizza place where I used to work to review simile/metaphor: https://t.co/4ZwhDrSGoe#tlap
Sheila from WI! Fourth Grade teacher and parent! I use to read Love You Forever to my 3 daughters when they were younger! Now, at ages 8, 12, &15, some of the words from this book are still part of our evening "Good Nights"! My husband loved reading Skippy Jon Jones! #tlap
One of my colleagues is completing a global read aloud with her students. They are reading Refugee and the kids love it! I love that she is able to connect our students with students across the country. #ksedchat#tlap
A1: Try to figure out what part of my standard/objective the students were missing, then re-teach, using a different teaching strategy...maybe have the kids work together to fill out a KWL sheet to check for quick understanding... #tlap
A1 create some learning circles so peer coaching and reflection can take place retrace from a new perspective to your learners that just didn’t get it. Give your kids that really have it an opportunity to find a new perspective or layer to expand on the concept #tlap
A1: Who needs acceleration or extension? Who needs reteach or a second bite at the apple? Who needs intervention? And how did I possibly interfere in their learning vs guide it... #tlap
A1: I'd do a quick review/run down of the concept I taught, but embed tons of CFU, gestures, and polling with circulating in between TPSs to reteach, but without them knowing what is going on, and by making it super interactive!
#tlap
A1. Small groups. ❤️ this chance to meet with Ss in a smaller setting and meet them where they are. More engaging and purposeful for all involved. #tlap
A1: If student understanding is all over the place, it’s time to re-teach and re-think my strategy and my activities. I might need to model more or give more time for discussion and practice. #tlap
Hi all, I'm John and I'm an elementary principal in @RowlandSchools
This is my first time on #tlap. My favorite bedtime book to read was Can't you sleep little bear
A1: Some stations that would review the skill from a slightly different angle, maybe one involving speaking/listening, one involving writing/drawing, one involving research, one involving play-dough model making... #tlap
A1: How to engage students on a deeper level! If the students are engaged with what they are doing, they will be more invested in what they are learning. #tlap#ksedchat
A1. Find a different pathway to reintroduce the material and objectives to the Ss in a simplier, easier to understand and grasp technique! You may need to clarify several points, create visual learning cards, puzzles, etc. #tlap
I love that rethinking the objectives. It's easy to forget to go back and look at the foundation of what you are working on. That's something I could always work on more. #tlap
A1 A mini lesson to hit the big points and differentiated enrichments or extensions including small group for those way off, partner practice for those close, and independent extensions for those who already rocked it #tlap
A1: I would have an idea of how I would retract. Then I would include my students in the reteaching process - Have a discussion with what was confusing and where they need some reteaching. Then it’s time to get creative. #tlap
A2: My new "love," #PBL!!! I love the enthusiasm that creative independence and discovery learning inspire!!! I'm always evaluating and tweaking it to make it better next time!! #tlap
A1 #tlap I think Ss are very savvy at patterns and routines--even repeating what they see/hear. If the learning activity doesn't allow for Ss to share their thinking and show their understanding in a clear way then some tasks/assessments are challenging to sort out.
Excellent point, Dr. Andrews. Provide a way to understand their knowledge beforehand, then we can understand what they learned. This is very important for students to knwo as well. #tlap
#tlap usually if I'm not getting the responses I expected, I asked the wrong question. Time to back up, rethink and reformulate with the SS so they can see the process. Perhaps pair up the SS who can model with those who need different examples.
A2: Immersion - being in the moment, being present. Forgetting the other places I need to be and everything else I need to be doing. Immersion can be the key to unlocking those hard-to-reach students because they know you're fully devoted to them. #tlap
A2 VR- this is newer for me and I really want to get my Ts using it to enhance their teaching so I need to learn more, so much more or I will have people doing it for just games. That chapter would keep me engaged. #tlap
I love that you included people in all learning groups. Sometimes we get so caught up in the students who struggle we forget to push the rest forward. #tlap
yes I second this!! Big time fun and great team collaboration. My coworkers and I went to an escape room at the beginning of the year. so fun, but yet so challenging. #tlap
A1: going back to the basics. What can I do differently and explain in a different way. What are the main points I want them to get from the lesson? #tlap
A2: The chapter on Ask/Analyze in #tlap - Once you know where you want to go you get creative in the way you go there. Ask the right questions and analyze the purpose of what you want #tlap
A2: How to engage and reach kids at various levels. Personalized learning is a dream, but what does this look like in a world of elementary, standards, and high stake testing? (P.S. Does this chapter exist?... if so book title NOW!)
#tlap
A2: my favorite chapter would be PBL and authentic learning ideas for social studies. I’ve been trying to use more PBL this year at the end of units. #tlap
A1 I’d take a step back, figure out where it derailed and try a different method. I’d reteach incorporating hooks from #tlap! That would be a great fresh start. This 2nd round, I’d also check the pulse of the Ss within the lesson—so I can adjust on the fly. Not wait til’ the end.
A2- Oh my favorite chapter was all about getting kids up and moving...talking and collaborating! Social function discussion aka happy hour is my absolute new favorite activity #tlap
#tlap A1: Slow down, back up, and restart with more interactive modeling. Also, add movement to the task, adding body movement activities or rhythmic speech (I'm a music teacher) often helps reinforce otherwise abstract concepts.
A2: creating experiences that wow students and allow ss time to explore, play, and take risks without worrying about failing, making a mess, breaking something, etc. #tlap
A2: Immersion - being in the moment, being present. Forgetting the other places I need to be and everything else I need to be doing. Immersion can be the key to unlocking those hard-to-reach students because they know you're fully devoted to them. #tlap
A2: Students love choice. This seems so simple but anytime I give students choice - they almost immediately take ownership over their learning and that rocks! #tlap#ksedchat
Hello everyone! It’s dark sooo early now in Cali!🤪 I’m marcia from Atwater CA, Induction Coordinator/Mentor #tosa growing up I loved Beverly Cleary books-1st interest in reading! “Ramona the pest” #tlap
Can't be too proud in this profession to recognize that it might not be the students...self reflection is tough...but so vital in growth as a teacher. #tlap
Borrowed from @burgessdave - my immersion chapter doesn't quite begin the same way his does though. lolololol. That gets me every time. Edgy-much? #tlap
A2: There was this little redhead who was trying to celebrate National Redhead Day so she snuck into the principal’s office... climbed up on the top of her desk... reached for the school mic and SCREAMED...
#tlap
A2: Preheating the grill! I don't always do that part of the planning and learning experience justice, but you can't cook the meat of the lesson on a cold grill! Very important to get the heat going before the meat hits the grill! #tlap
A2: This may seem simple but the relationships I have built with my students. Each of my classes are like a family - we are unique, have great times, work through the bad times, and laugh a lot. And it's the best. #ksedchat#tlap
A2: Lessons/activities that allow my students to be engaged and learning with each other, which then allows me to walk around and engage with small groups. I love how this helps me to build relationships with the students! #tlap
Differentiation - based on S interest, ability, background, language fluency, choice, learning preference...It’s a simple concept, but it’s difficult to master well. #tlap
As @TaraMartinEDU would say - "Cannonball In!" Make a backup plan to catch you if you fall, but go, go, GO! PBL is so incredible when you own it and go for it! We are here to cheer you on! #tlap
#TLAP A2: Interactive modeling. Check out @responsiveclass approach and dive into powerful lessons in social and emotional learning. What does it look like, what does it sound like? Academic choice. Hopes and dreams. So much good stuff in these materials. @Pshaw63
A2. I always love student collaborating and sharing their learning with each other. Students believe they learn more when given voice and choice. #tlap@flipgrid
A3: I believe there is power in building positive relationships FIRST and then taking intentional time to get to know your students as an individual learner. Every child is different and it is AMAZING. Celebrate differences! #tlap
A3:...exploration. Students don’t always know what they don’t know. I want to help them explore passions they know and ones they don’t know yet. I didn’t know I liked animation until a teacher had me try it. To this day it is one of my all time favorite things to do. #tlap
A1: a plan that included the 4Cs focusing on collaboration, sharing our learning, creating & #DoSomething to make the learning sticky! #tlap messy & loud too
Tough for teachers to give up control...but real learning comes from that choice. Allows students to actually invest in their learning..huge for buy in. #tlap
A3: Building relationships and incorporating S passions into the experiences designed for them. I'm always trying to connect with my Ss and am willing to do the work to unlock student success. #tlap
A3: relationships and keeping as engaged. Amazing how ss act so diff when they are not engaged enough. Happened today because I just couldn’t walk anymore. #tlap
A3 RELATIONSHIPS!!!! RELATIONSHIPS!!!! RELATIONSHIPS!!! Power of knowing students and making the learning relevant to them—creating that bridge for knowledge acquisition #tlap
A3 Fostering, supporting, including those passions. They’re the key to motivation, relevance, and connections. If you know a students interest, you immediately open them to use reading, writing, listening, speaking... genius projects and 29 Time prove it! #tlap
#TLAP A3:...Academic choice. Giving kids choices (remember to always offer them acceptable choices) can boos their interest and commitment to the task at hand. Kids want to be part of their learning, not just talked at or told what to do. @responsiveclass
A2: Mindfulness. The main characters of the book head out in their kayak in search of a serenity spot to quiet their minds and find calm from the chaos. #tlap
Ryne, student do learn more when they create and not just consume! Formative assessments without grading provides huge benefits. Great point! #tlap@Flipgrid
A3: Student choice is everything! If you really want to create a love for literature and build fluency at the same time just let them pick what they love! #tlap
A3 I believe there is power in listening ... listening to the kids to hear and to understand- not always to inform ...not to reply ... not to instruct, but to hear ... what’s in their hearts #tlap
A3: power in... allowing students to share their passions and use those for the good of all humans. Every students is a genius once you find what they are really passionate about and help them use it for good #tlap
A3- Student Voice! Providing them the opportunities, skills, and words to have their voices heard! Tomorrow my kiddos are presenting their new media center project to the principal! They are pumped to be heard! #tlap
A3. Trying to incorporate their interests into real life problem solving scenarios that they can relate to! Make it real, Make it fun! Make it memorable!#tlap
A3: Carving Out Time for Passion Projects!
When a passion is shared
from the heart of a child,
you engage them for life
with learning that's wild!
#tlap
A3: There is power in relationships and connection. As @gcouros says, “If we want meaningful change, we have to make a connection to the heart before we can make a connection to the mind.” #tlap
Sometime we have this weird belief that students "have" to learn from us...no, they choose to learn from us..and will only make that choice if the relationship is in place. #tlap
A3: There is power in tapping student passion to engage in the lessons that need to be learned. Pull in what's relevant to students to hook them! #tlap
A2a. Providing authentic audiences for students to show learning. When they work is just for my eyes they publish good enough. When other eyes are involved their work is prodigious. #tlap
A3: in rapport. I always think of @MrsMurat saying "Maslow before Bloom."
Even though the effect size is not the biggest, this is one aspect of @VisibleLearning by @john_hattie that Ts can build on and climb up the ladder of #studentsuccess. #tlap
A3: PLAY~whether it's puppets or some other medium, there is SO much power in play. It's not frivolous or a waste of valuable time; quite the opposite, it's our brain's favorite way to learn. And fun is, indeed, our ticket to engagement, a hook if you will. #tlap
A3: Leveraging the Opportunistic prompt with S passions. Tap into what's going on that is current and fits with their passions. Weave in as many as possible in one experience to maximize the number of Ss pulled into the experience! #tlap
A3
✨✨✨✨❤️✨✨✨✨
These students of mine...
❤️ them...their #FIVE4FIVE challenges! Tying in a #RAK writing unit for November! Gratitude and kindness go hand in hand! Can’t wait to see it unfold! Thanks @mrmatera for sharing sweet stuff on https://t.co/j4jdSEhcmD! #XPLAP#TLAP
Sometime we have this weird belief that students "have" to learn from us...no, they choose to learn from us..and will only make that choice if the relationship is in place. #tlap
A3: I really love that my school puts an emphasis on the whole student. Social and emotional learning is important to our staff and I take pride in where I work because of that! #ksedchat#tlap
STUDENT CHOICE! This is something I have incorporated more in the past two years, thanks to my wonderful colleagues helping me out! Ss are much more engaged when given choice! #tlap
A2: culturally relevant pedagogy! Learning how to teach in a way that capitalizes on the strength of the ethnic racial and social differences of all of our kids. #tlap
A3: there is power when Ss get passionate & then share it, again & again! When students tell “their story” #tlap when they ask questions, because they want MORE❤️👏🎉💯🔥
When a S who is in trouble shrugs his shoulders and mouths off to admin but blushes and hides his face when you ask him what he's done... you know you've got them. I truly believe my kids will move mountains. #tlap
A3: power in... allowing students to share their passions and use those for the good of all humans. Every students is a genius once you find what they are really passionate about and help them use it for good #tlap
A4: Cooperative Learning allows you to teach social skills and your curriculum at the same time. It is embedded curriculum + academic curriculum at its finest! #tlap
A4:...beginning with a story. Everyone loves a good story. Stories are one of the greatest entry points into any content area. A story helps me connect with my students and hook them in. #tlap
A4: sharing about myself and allowing them to share about their lives before diving into rules, expectations, and content. Spending a little extra time building the relationship saves so much time down the road. #tlap
A3: Imagination... I think we need to encourage more students to chase their dreams, no matter how silly they may seem to us. There is power in imagination and believing you can achieve anything you set your mind to. #tlap
A3: There is power in authentically loving our students. Yes, they will become amazing people, but yes, they are amazing people now. We must see beyond their behaviors and scores and love them as humans. Power in relationships, which form all of education. #tlap
A4 ENERGY! I meet kids at the door with energy—a smile and a fist bump and then include various hooks but nothing beats a good question to get them thinking/interested! #tlap
A4: I really like to bring in song, specifically rap. I want to hook them with something entertaining, something they can relate to, and something with pneumonic devices built in to help the info stick. #tlap
A4 I’ll be starting a PBL experience with a VR field trip to a local elementary school and analyzing a prop on our local ballots. Relevance is always intriguing. #tlap
A4: Once you choose your standard(s) your imagination takes care of the rest! You are the lucky one who builds the curriculum around the standards so make the magic happen! #tlap
A3. Power is in enriched world-wide collaboration, personalized immediate feedback, immersive learning experiences and empowering students to control and manage their own learning. #tlap
A4-Anytime we can build social skills and community at the same time. That day is a win in my book. We need more community building in this world and it starts with our students practicing those skills #tlap
A4-Anytime we can build social skills and community at the same time. That day is a win in my book. We need more community building in this world and it starts with our students practicing those skills #tlap
A4:...Begin with relevance and honor agency! Students need (and deserve!) to know the WHY behind what they are doing in class. They also deserve to have choice, voice, and ownership in their learning. https://t.co/pmUGEDW5dx#tlap
A3. FAMILY! ❤️ getting to know EACH of my kiddos & LOVE seeing their passions outside classroom walls! Also ❤️ when my kids come back & visit... all grown up 😢 #tlap
A4: I begin every one of my classes with a joke of the day. The kids love it and it's a light hearted way to start class and grab their attention. #tlap#ksedchat
YES!! It’s similar to a genius project in that students can choose their own topics, but it comes from business. Some companies have their employees 20% of their work time back. Productivity & satisfaction went way up! Schools adopted it. I loved it! I’ll find the article! #tlap
I missed the intro, but my fav book character is undoubtedly the BFG ... his use of the English language that he taught himself 😉 is such Fantabulosity!!! #tlap
A4. Talking about myself first when I was a child sharing an experience and listening to some of their stories before we get started! Then we'll start on our topic or question for the day! #tlap
#TLAP A4: Start with a personal story. Ss love to hear about your experience as a kid. And you'll be surprised how they remember the littlest details. I've had 4th graders remind me about a story I told them when they were in grade 1, and they remember then entire thing
A4: Let’s begin with community building. Let’s begin with getting to know each other and connecting that to the lesson. Let’s make the learning relevant because it helps use relate to each other. #tlap
A4: A costume. Or a cape. Or both. Engage Ss with mystery. And magic. Let them know that you'd want to be a student in their class by concocting an experience rather than just a lesson. Did someone ask for the Queen of Hearts? #tlap
Marcia, @MarciaMentor this is a force of habit when following school curriculum's. They pack everything in trying to fit 15,000 school districts they are selling too. #tlap
A4: Anything out of the ordinary will “hook” them. Today I read a book about wild animals. I played wild animal sounds throughout the lesson. I built a safari Jeep out of two desks and we wore safari hats made from paper bowls and plates with a little spray paint. #TLAP
A4: With the Mozart, dance or drama hook. Maybe the craft store or real life application hook. The costume hook never fails. Or the "Guest Speaker" hook! The possibilities are endless with the #tlap mindset.
A4: I have always found that beginning a lesson with an animated personal story, told with passion, expression, and love always sparks the learners’ interest. Ss want to connect. When they know their teacher cares, so do they! #tlap
A5: I'm always wishing I had more time to sit down and learn more about @sphero#dash and #coding. I see so many cool ideas of integrating these tools and I just wish for more time! #tlap
A5:...I wish I knew more about ways to use technology to connect with people outside of my school. Experts would love to connect/share with students. I don’t know how to find the right ones to connect with. #tlap
A5: I wish I could show the power of teaching curriculum with tech as a tool. ISTE Standards - begin here and then add SAMR model. How can we use tech to support learning? Tech w/out purpose is pointless. #tlap
A4. Fashion Show! Kids created a fashion article from one of models that walked the red carpet! Used #pages app & looked like a magazine article! Was a hit! There@was@no complaining about writing!!! #tlap
A4.Not the lesson -but the day—I begin each day with an Attendance Question... a few pluses, guarantees that every child hears their name and is welcomed to class- each day - and the quick response reply teaches us about all of us. What would you fill a pool with? Fav gum ? #tlap
A4: music playing in the room that has a connection to the lesson...or a friendly greeting that was authentically warm but also contained hints about the lesson. “Good morning, D’Antay. I infer you are ready for class today.” #tlap
I had a student this yr that was so adamant that I couldn't get him to like reading and writing... he is so into our Crispin novel and our #NaNoWriMo! I just look at him and smile! #TLAP
A4: begin with #WODB which one doesn’t belong? “Would you rather....? Or a @burgessdave hook with a special delivery package or magic trick #tlap HOOK HOOK HOOK 😀🤪🎉💜
A5: Hmmmm. I wish I knew more about finding time to research, play w/, & then figure out all the ways my district Ts can then leverage that tech in their classrooms for their content. It's easy to do for myself, but I need magic sometimes to see how other GLs can apply it. #tlap
A5: @DeckToys definitely! I started using about a month ago and there are sooo many features to engage my Ss! Best part? Sign up is free and resources are freely shared online amongst Ts #tlap
A5: Technology needs to be relevant and purposeful. I love using google forms to create "breakout rooms" for my students. They love this! Sometimes you just have to be creative. #tlap#ksedchat
This is huge, Marisa @MarisaEThompson . A professional editing classwork is powerful learning. I use Skype in the Classroom for this and for virtual tours, etc. #tlap
A5. Seesaw or ClassDojo student portfolio. Would love to have a place for my students to showcase their work. For now I ❤️ #flipgrid#padlet#edulastic. #tlap
Q5. The kinds of technologies used in post secondary settings. And the kinds of technologies students are using every single day. I want to get away from technology that is made only for teachers. #tlap
A6: tough call... I would say create an activity on @Seesaw or create a brief @nearpod if I have several questions. If a verbal answer or explanation is best @Flipgrid#tlap
A6: ... having the students create a Hashtag that summarizes the objective for the day. Quick and easy to grade and forces the kids to synthesize all learning for the day. #TLAP
A6:...Video exit slips are a great way to do a quick check for understanding, either through a quick video on the way out the door or a video post on @flipgrid. #tlap
They are a blast! Start small. Pick a topic you want to do it on then start looking around for different ways to do clues. That is how I dis my first real Great Gatsby one. It takes time...but is so worth it! #tlap
A6: Total voice and choice! I post the standard and they choose how they want to meet it... always has me hooked! Can’t wait to see what they create! #AuthenticLearning#tlap
Hey everyone! I’m late to the party, but I’m Nathan Perry and I teach 8th SS just outside of KC, MO. My favorite book character is probably Ron Weasley. #tlap
We have two break out kits at @OWNovacekOWLS and @OlatheWestLMC was awesome to work with....I found a break out on their site, split my class of 30 in half and Mel ran one room while I ran the other! Worked like a charm! #tlap
In reply to
@Cupp_OW, @CoachRuport, @OWNovacekOWLS, @OlatheWestLMC
A6 pyramid vocabulary is one of my fav check for understanding... like $60,000 pyramid only with your vocabulary- phrases - skills -etc ... can they explain them? Can they understand when someone else does? Easy / brief preparation!! Time to re-teach? Or They’ve got this ! #tlap
A5: My 6th grade book club is creating a podcast where they talk about different books they have read throughout book club. They plan on sharing this with everyone to create more interest in reading...and it is the best! They rock. #ksedchat#tlap
A6: ...the best choice will be... @Flipgrid and have each student share their learning in a quick video after writing it out so they can incorporate writing into it too #tlap
I literally want to pack up my @dbc_inc library and take it with me, lol. Hubs says no. But man... reading #tlap in the Caribbean... (shhhh it may get snuck in anyway)
In reply to
@MrNunesteach, @cospaces_edu, @JaimeDonally, @dbc_inc
A6: The best tool depends on the lesson, the S, the moment! Good tools are: @PearDeck#CaptionThisEDU@GetKahoot@quizizz@goformative , a round of Q & A, having Ss create a product, a website, a podcast, a meme, a #booksnaps & the list goes on! Lots of ways/tools 2 assess. #tlap
A6: A good old-fashioned #reflection exit slip, to get them thinking about what they've learned and to provide feedback to you about what you've taught (that hopefully they've learned).
Our learning happens in the reflection; don't leave class without it. #tlap
A1 - #BlendedLearning, ya’ll! I would use the Station Rotation model and have each station designated as a specific skill that was addressed the day before. One of the stations would be a small-group discussion station that I would host to meet individually with groups. #tlap
A6 Need to have multiples. Sometimes a Ss needs that verbal check in, sometimes it is just a thumbs up/thumbs down, a well crafted check in/written response or exit ticket. Turn and talk to whole group discussion. Have to mix it up and know what’s best for each kid. #tlap
A6: @Flipgrid or @quizizz get the Ss explaining & analyzing & commenting on others & watching multiple explanations! Have the Ss use a “fun” voice & even small props #tlap use the tech to hear from ALL Ss 💯👀
Hi #tlap! Hope you’ll join us Tuesday evening for #PLNedchat! We’ll be celebrating teachers who go the extra mile! Want a reminder & the questions? Text @PLNedchat to 81010!
Early celebration for reaching 1000 @Twitter followers! I’ll create a mini balloon explosion montage when we reack 1K! Yhanksnformallnof the support! #science#sciencefun#kidsmatter#tlap
A6: The best tool to check for understanding depends....I love Google forms, Flipgrid, Quizizz, socrative, Classroom discussion, notecards, summary sentences, all depends on what fits best with what is being learned. #tlap
A7: Movement... how will I get the kids up and out of their seats... maybe even out of the classroom? Can I scatter resources throughout the building or create tasks that require them to get up?
#tlap
A7: ... closure. Not just the bell ringing at the end of the hour, but REAL CLOSURE!! Revisit the objective, check for understanding, and remind my Ss of any upcoming deadlines. #TLAP
A7:...Kids need to move...a lot. I try to get the kids moving at least every 15 minutes. Sometimes it’s to high five three walls or race to see how quickly they can line up according to the number of feet in their household (including pets). Anything to get them moving. #tlap
Marisa, I start with just the class. Usually on PBL assignment. Although, I recently saw a school use Skype school wide with statewide candidates. #tlap
Thank you! Do you do this with one expert and the entire class or groups? Individuals? Is it difficult for participants to hear the conversations if more than one is happening? I appreciate your help!
That's what THIS is all about, friend!! You can read and follow along, or chime in! Either way, you can gather LOTS of ideas here and expand your PLN!! #tlap
A6: Ok, now that @KaliSlusser & the rest of the #tlap crew has taught me about @Flipgrid I’m totally using it to CFU. But if a turkey flies into the power line again and knocks out electricity (we live in the country), I’m gonna have my white boards ready!
A7: Evaluation of the experience from the Ss. It's important to me that they know I care about, not just what they learn, but how they learn best. I make immediate changes based on their feedback. #tlap
You better believe I'm taking my #tlap shirt for Pirate Night! My kids are like, "Mom, we know you're not missing the Pirates in the Caribbean night." HAHAHA! Bless them.

A7: I try to reflect on the lesson I have just created and ask myself, “will this engage my student? Will they participate willingly and have fun doing it?” #tlap
Do you post your lesson to YouTube? I read the novels and post them for my auditory learners. I definitely think hearing/seeing you has an impact on their days. #TLAP
