Kevin Swift @kdawgswift AD/HFC @GoldBeachHS Gold Beach, Oregon 30 year Coaching #Dinosaur first 13 in SoCal & last 17 Oregon coast #TXHSFBCHAT Love the Game with all My Heart, avid fisherman & surfer still at 58,
John Willey, STC and wideouts, Bishop Blanchet Seattle WA. If there was one coach to follow it would be @CoachMeleWSU Attended 2 clinic presentations he gave a year ago, they changed the way we played special teams #txhsfbchat
A1 haven’t been at new spot very long but first thing that stuck out were the upperclassmen really taking a lead in the weight room and coaching up young guys #txhsfbchat
A1: I really think the "Teach" period that I'm putting in is crucial for building depth of lower-level players. Help them by keeping them half an hour later for individual movement patterns of specific skills. #txhsfbchat
A1: We put a lot of time & energy into promoting our kids & getting them exposure. Whether through social media or loading up the SUV and making road trips!
Our entire staff is involved.
#TXHSFBCHAT
#TXHSFBCHAT Late to the party. Jeremiah Vangen, ETHS in WI, OC and OL. You should follow @rockpoltrock. One thing we do well is limit correction time during inside run and team. We record practice teach after segments. These periods are for running plays and getting reps
A1.) Year 2 with this coaching staff. Little attendance prior to last season. Getting the players involved in community work speaks volumes. That brought up the attendance at games way up. #BreakTheGate each home game. The community believes in the young men #TXHSFBCHAT
A1: think we do a great job of building our scheme in all 3 phases around our personnel. The terminology and base stays pretty similar year to year but our adjustments are pretty sound #txhsfbchat
A1) if you’re not doing some sort of character education each day you’re missing the biggest opportunity you have to reach kids and teach them how to function outside of our sport. #TXHSFBCHAT
Q2. What is one thing you have come across this off-season that you will implement in your program and/or position to make it better next year? #TXHSFBCHAT
A1: I’m fairly new to the district but our HC allowed me to start filming all OL sessions (Indy, Team, Pass Pro, etc...) something that wasn’t done here before. It’s helps a lot. Now if we can just get ALL the OL to WATCH IT!! #TXHSFBCHAT
q2: What is one thing you have come across this off-season that you will implement in your program and/or position to make it better next year? #txhsfbchat@txhsfbchat
HSSocialMedia : RT tbanks1906: q2: What is one thing you have come across this off-season that you will implement in your program and/or position to make it better next year? #txhsfbchat txhsfbchat
A2: We have formed a leadership council and want to use them to build player accountability and enhance our culture. @BSimmons25 sounds like you have a system, I will be DMing you #TXHSFBCHAT
q2: What is one thing you have come across this off-season that you will implement in your program and/or position to make it better next year? #txhsfbchat@txhsfbchat
Q2. What is one thing you have come across this off-season that you will implement in your program and/or position to make it better next year? #TXHSFBCHAT
A2: A process to hold players accountable for grades that are "D" or "F" that will help them create better habits and be more mindful towards their grades. No "Ds" or "Fs" policy. #TXHSFBCHAT
A2) I saw from very good QB run game stuff from a few guys at Glazier clinics and I’m also spending more time learning more about defense which I think I will be able to apply to my job this coming season #txhsfbchat
A2: we’re gonna put more emphasis on teaching and executing FG block at an elite level...been kind of back burned the past few years but need to take every opportunity to take points off the board #txhsfbchat
A2) empowering my players.
Basically a lot less me & a whole lot of them.
Showing them the way, empowering them to get it down. #GrowthMindset#TXHSFBCHAT
A2 Also practice schedule, went to no sweat Wednesday’s 2 yrs ago and it has been great! Thursday’s practice is 18 periods full pads! Wed is 12 period walk thru. #TXHSFBCHAT
A2: I've been out of it for 4 years, sabbatical self imposed, so I've been picking up new age tackling drills / techniques / ideas etc, #TXHSFBCHAT I think you must tackle everyday in pads or not - no different than Batting Practice - make it muscle memory makes it Safer IMHO
Q2. What is one thing you have come across this off-season that you will implement in your program and/or position to make it better next year? #TXHSFBCHAT
Q3. All HC: What's the best way for an assistant to prepare to be a head coach one day? Assistants: What are you doing to prepare to be a HC one day? #TXHSFBCHAT
A2: @joshherring1 has me sold on Wednesday & Thursday morning practice! Wednesday a hour/15 no pads FAST PACE, Thursday morning THUD up through game plan, GL, P&10, ST #txhsfbchat
Q2. What is one thing you have come across this off-season that you will implement in your program and/or position to make it better next year? #TXHSFBCHAT
A2.) Returning all my position players. Year 2 with them & working strongly with some of the young ones. Getting them to believe in theirselves. One specifically has come a LONG way since the end of the season. Can/Will be a stud in the future. Think Long Term. #TXHSFBCHAT
A3: As the JV HC, but eventual Varsity HC, I'm routinely looking to build my overall program-building ability. Figuring out the minor details that HCs take care of behind the scenes. Listening and reading every day! HCs, tell me if you've got suggestions! #txhsfbchat
Q3. All HC: What's the best way for an assistant to prepare to be a head coach one day? Assistants: What are you doing to prepare to be a HC one day? #TXHSFBCHAT
Q3: All HC: What's the best way for an assistant to prepare to be a head coach one day? Assistants: What are you doing to prepare to be a HC one day? #TXHSFBCHAT
Oh your right and you'll never get it every year but as Coaches we are no different than Players, we cannot stop trying or working towards finding the formula. different things work different years - we have to solve each year's Rubric Cube called our Teams #TXHSFBCHAT
Q3. All HC: What's the best way for an assistant to prepare to be a head coach one day? Assistants: What are you doing to prepare to be a HC one day? #TXHSFBCHAT
Hey coaches, late to the party. Trying to get a lift in so I’ll be tweeting in between sets. Justin Brown, QB coach and DB’s, El Molino High. #TXHSFBCHAT
A3: As an assistant preparing to be a head coach, im working on my head coach portfolio and the overall plan for the culture and philosophy for my program, based on my experiences thus far #txhsfbchat
A3.) Assistant here. Learning. Watching. Listening. Believing. HC is going on year 2 as well however his coaching tree has helped him tremendously. Learning from someone who learned (and played) for some of the best. Just focusing on minor details. Such as BUYING IN #TXHSFBCHAT
Correct. Once we quit learning...we will learn to fail. Again, I take great pride in learning from others & as a result, adding to my treasure box. I urge my players to seek knowledge as well because you never stay the same!!! #TXHSFBCHAT
A3: for me learning about some of the little things outside of the game. Fund raising, working with a booster club and parents. Communicating your plan is key. #TXHSFBCHAT
HSSocialMedia : RT txhsfbchat: Q3. All HC: What's the best way for an assistant to prepare to be a head coach one day? Assistants: What are you doing to prepare to be a HC one day? #TXHSFBCHAT
A3: For the aspiring: take on as many responsibilities with and without being asked. Sit in with the HC as much as possible. You already know how to coach, but you must learn to administrate #TXHSFBCHAT
A3; As a HFC, I think the path is different for different people or coaches. 1 way is to coach different side of ball, different positions - learn from everyone on staff good or negative it is all learning 2- way learn all the managerial and organization skills etc #TXHSFBCHAT
Q3. All HC: What's the best way for an assistant to prepare to be a head coach one day? Assistants: What are you doing to prepare to be a HC one day? #TXHSFBCHAT
Q3: As an assistant I attend as many things as I can, try to help the HC since he’s our Offensive Play Caller (I hope to be an OC in the next couple years), I make connections/network at different meets (powerlifting, track, tournaments and #TXHSFBCHAT
A3: I just recently had my 1st HC interview and I was surprised on how it turned out. I didn't get the job, but the district AD wanted me to consider another HC job at a school in the same district.#txhsfbchat
A3: Assistants: Get a book right down every decision your HC has to make. Right down what he did and why and if you agree. Besides just start working on your manual. O/D/ST/Weight Training/Fundraising/Practice Schedule/Discipline Policy/Grades.... #txhsfbchat
Q3. All HC: What's the best way for an assistant to prepare to be a head coach one day? Assistants: What are you doing to prepare to be a HC one day? #TXHSFBCHAT
A3: p2 talking tonkther coaches from other schools like you guys helps a lot. I think you surround yourself with people that are positive influences and are also honest. #TXHSFBCHAT
These are two books I have used with my players for years to improve as a leader. I pour those words into my players daily. Even if they do not want to hear my word, I still pour. #TXHSFBCHAT
A4: I haven't done enough, even as a JV HC. The communication from the top hasn't been great and I need to step up and be a leader if my goal is to eventual be a Varsity HC. #txhsfbchat
A4: All-In is our mantra we've taken on this off season. We hold them accountable for off season performance and academic performance. They receive points for their performance in both and involvement after school. They earn an All In off season shirt with the poinst #TXHSFBCHAT
A4.) Adding new things with a full off season with the team now. Pride shirts for the Weight Room. Working on an award for 100% attendance. A #RangerElite sticker for the helmet for attendance, grades, weights, being a leader!! And more! They are earned, NOT given #TXHSFBCHAT
A4: create a competition. The seniors draft 4 man teams, they get points for attendance, challenges, service, etc. Winner will prolly get first pick of gear and jersey number this year #txhsfbchat
Also, find out what he needs done, that he is not good at doing himself, and ask if you can take it over. I learned SO MUCH by doing this - scripting practices, fundraising, engaging alumni and community support.
A4: We're lucky we are small rural isolated coastal community so it passed down from our older players to our younger players. Also 1 little Nugget - our Captains Lead by DOING MORE. Leaders Led & that means doing MORE not telling someone else to do. #TXHSFBCHAT helps our young
A4: Right now we are trying to #PayTheFee for the Spring! But we use an off-season point system based on attendance, grades, competition, community service. My coaches drafted there teams. #txhsfbchat
A4) Perfect sprints. We start with just 1 but work up to 10. Perfect sprint means starting exactly the right way on command, no loafing, standing stall w/ hands by your side in line. Sounds easy but it's not. We are super critical of every little move they make! #txhsfbchat
A4) sorry late to party. We do offseason comp., give tees for grades, weight room. I try to text a few players every day that are doing the things we stand for. We want kids to compete so part of off season comp. is point for playing a winter or spring sport #TXHSFBCHAT
A5) Daily Must.. Imagine you only had 10 mins of practice. Makes you as a coach and the players focus. You won’t get through everything you want for awhile, but once you do. It’s awesome how fast and fundy sound they can be. #TXHSFBCHAT
A5: Our Option Drill - always us to play physical run defense & at same time develop a physical well oiled OL. little bit more sophisticated than just 2- 1/2 lines going. #TXHSFBCHAT
A5: Be authentic. A lot of coaches yell for the sake of yelling or interact in ways that come off as unauthentic. Be you, kids see through the frauds. They'll respect you more when they know you're real. #txhsfbchat
A3: To aspiring HCs, grind your tail off, help run the weight room, line and mow the field do the laundry, take kids home, stay after and help kids do extra.. develop positive relationships with administration, parents, stake holders in the community. #TXHSFBCHAT
A5) Daily must. 1st 10 minutes of every practice. Includes Noose, Pat & Go, Ball Security, and Jugs Machine for skill guys. OL is doing their daily must drills at the same time. #TXHSFBCHAT
A5: we didn't do it last year BUT we going back to them. Getting my assistants walkie-talkies. Helps us communicate to each other, to keep the pace and I don't want them on the field during team type drills just coordinators, communication is key #txhsfbchat
A5: one thing we’ve done on special teams is break down the scheme and identify exactly which skills need to be taught, then create the organization to teach those skills as efficiently as possible. This philosophy has been huge for us!! #txhsfbchat
A5. Perfect EVERY REP. 100%. Run through the script without having to redo a play. Gets done on time. Gets us in the weight room energized. #TXHSFBCHAT
A5) We are just trying to get guys to practice with a sense of urgency and a purpose. We took over a struggling program so just getting kids to work hard, be focused, present, etc has been a challenge but finally turning the corner. I’m all ears on what you all do. #TXHSFBCHAT
A5: As crazy as it is...we listen. We know we learn more when quiet. If a kid sees something on the field, we listen to him. If a kid has a problem at practice, we listen to him. If a kid has a hard time at home, we listen to him. Pays off tenfold. @JerodBrown_#TXHSFBCHAT
Bonus Question: Offensive guys: You have the ball on the 5 must score to win the state championship, what are you calling? Defensive guys: They come out with Trips Bunch to the field from the 5 to win, what are you thinking? #TXHSFBCHAT

A3: As an assistant, I need to start keeping a journal and writing more down from a year to year basis. Still years away from being there but it would help to have things organized a little better and documented #TXHSFBCHAT
A5 continued: As far as football related though, this past year we installed much more team periods. We were short on coaches and it helped our team bond. Got kids excited and broke away from Indy’s and EDD’s #TXHSFBCHAT
Let them snap and call a time out right before to see what they’re thinking. I’m thinking a S.O to the field with the RB leaking-send pressure & m2m better not get rubbed #txhsfbchat
A5) That is a scenario we try to work in practice on short yardage day- have to have on 1,3,5,8. Staff and QBs will come up with what play(s) we want. Doesn’t matter what I call- need qb to be confident in executing it. #TXHSFBCHAT
Call me Crazy but Flanker Double (IV) Right Throwback. X to back side deep slant replacing safety who is biting on Dive or TE Pop Pass Look - LOL Dinosaur Poop #TXHSFBCHAT

However, based off what we’re hoping the defense does, double dragon low/High. Hoping the S and CB keys on our X to leave the Y, Z or even the R open #TXHSFBCHAT
THIS was great Thank You guys, I have to go back and re read this tmrw! Thank You @coachfisher_rp You guys on Spring Break enjoy it! 2 weeks away! #txhsfbchat
Bonus Defense: Depends their players. Am I worried Fade? Or Screen to slot? Has the back had some open routes tonight that they didn’t capitalize on? So many options. Either way, we’re coming. Show me you can beat us. We’re not laying down. #TXHSFBCHAT
I had people DM me & ask me about my Coach Tube class and while I have done almost no X and O learning this off-season. HC mode. here is a 50% off link for you for 36 hours #txhsfbchathttps://t.co/TfThX1TNmG
