Today's Would you rather-teach at high-performing, low-tech school OR low-performing, high-tech school? WHY? https://t.co/hngtWoGGSO
Good morning all! Alex from Citrus Cointy reporting for duty π
I did it! I got up 430 Wont be able to walk today, but I did 21dayfix !
Happy Monday! crazy sock day at school. Love spirit week!
Welcome to "Would You Rather..?" week, designed to force you to search your soul & make tough choices! ( Early in the am!)
Good morning, . I'm Ku, Learning Coach, Argentina. Looks like a great week ahead on topics.
Good morning, all! Karl from the Jersey shore checking in. Fought a cold most of the last 5 days. Ready to get at it today.
What is considered high tech? 1:1? We have tech but I don't consider us high tech
Happy Monday hope you all have a great week
Happy Monday crew Eric in Nj
Happy Monday friends. Spent the last few days in Orlando at . Glad to b back. David MS Principal form VA here
Happy Monday friends! Chris here from Ontario.
Way to go!! Now stop that negative self-talk....you WILL be able to move todayπ
If those were my only 2 options id take the high performing, low tech school. But both of these sound fairly difficult.
Good Morning ! Amy from MD here.
Good morning! I'm ready for the week!
<3 <3 <3 That makes me smile! I will move! I have to. Little people depend on me. lol
If able to access as poll, Would you rather teach at a school that is... No middle ground allowed! Why?
I'd prefer the low performing, high tech school. I'd have the opportunity to utilize the infrastructure present to be the change.
Good morning Chris! I have stared to read your blog...just need to get'er done!
Happy Monday everyone! Robin from ATL here. Still trying to decide which "I'd rather."
Oh goodness what a question! Good morning all, Betsy from nj here!
everyone! Elisa, 5th grade teacher from Quito, Ecuador.
Good morning Nancy here from Ohio elem principal
Low performing, high tech. So much potential and so much you can do
Hi! You woke up at 4:30 to exercise?! Ugh
Performance without tech preparation is just that: "Performance", not preparation.
I'd go high-performing school and hope to integrate tech!
This is a great question regardless of tech level, I would always choose a low-performing school.
Ill take engaged parents over tech any day. option most likely has that.
Low performing high tech-but only because I love a challenge! I'd shake up the T's, admin and S's! https://t.co/AXBgA6aZHf
Today's Would you rather-teach at high-performing, low-tech school OR low-performing, high-tech school? WHY? https://t.co/hngtWoGGSO
Hey there Lisa here, checking in from the sunshine state.
There is room for big time growth in both situations, but different kinds of growth...tough one
Returning to after being in Orlando at .
Brian, HS principal from Mass.
Making a difference is key. Also, prepare Ss for life after school. They need to know tech. https://t.co/izS6JOTJuQ
I'd prefer the low performing, high tech school. I'd have the opportunity to utilize the infrastructure present to be the change.
I would agree with you. The term "low performing" may be subjective here & Ss may be outperforming in other areas.
I'm a firm believer in the power of our words! those students will help you work out your soreness!!
I so love sharing the ideas I get from here with my Ss. Love being innovative and teaching them.
I would go with the high-performing school & then show colleagues/admin about tech integration. Curriculum goals first!
good morning- it's going to be an excellent week!
I would rather teach at a school where kids are allowed to be kids. where there is genuine joy in the hall and laughter in the class
I spent my entire career with low performing schools because students needed me & I wanted to help change the culture.
Low tech or high tech could be a matter of equity in access.
Well, there's a question to really get us thinking! Good morning - Marifran, hs librarian, checking in
Yes....potential and ability to see impact.
I have taught at both kinds! MUCH prefer low performing/high tech...lots more appreciation & possibilities! Can shoot for the stars!
You are absolutely right! That will be my thought for the day. (I do love soreness tho, shows how hard I worked)
I would choose high performing, low tech. High performing speaks to me of engagement, growth mindset, rich tasks, learning.
Much of performance is based on the teaching regardless of the https://t.co/JiZc1VfwUY is an advantage but Ss can still achieve
Sorry I'm late . I had to do the mom thing. Welcome to would you rather week!
We have carts and labs that we share.
I agree with Alex. I think the tech would provide great opportunity to support Ss performance. https://t.co/JWdNqWPqzs
I'd prefer the low performing, high tech school. I'd have the opportunity to utilize the infrastructure present to be the change.
Good morning how will you ?
Prefer the tech is used to transfer ownership of learning to the student.
Not for standardized testing.
True! ! https://t.co/H440ojXqjs
I would rather teach at a school where kids are allowed to be kids. where there is genuine joy in the hall and laughter in the class
So much potential for a positive shift with high tech. The other scenario looks like stasis and fixed mindset to me.
This is an interesting perspective that I didn't consider. Thanks for that.
What I wish is for tech to be used for more creative purposes, not just research. Low performing would both me greatly.
Slightly distracted. Watching our women's national soccer team take on Japan as part of olympic qualifiers. And it's on TV!
I'd love a side chat on that 21 day fix sometime!
Id rather choose the hi performing lo tech school. For a few reasons...
I'm torn with this either/or question. So many options to build Ss performance from low 2 high w/tech but there may be mindset issue
Low performing, high tech. Finding a way to integrate tech to teach Ss so they learn. Successful Ss in today's world need tech.
so agree. Words are power and so are you as an example to our Ss. On the bike right now.
I would rather teach at a school where the teachers enjoyed the kids and didn't wish for better kids ... teach the kids you have
Morning! Low performing, high tech = lots of ways for success, engagement & growth.
Difficult question today! A reason I came 2 teaching was 2 work w/kids who were struggling or didn't have ed opportunities.
And IMO this can be a low or high tech school. All depends on the culture that has been created. https://t.co/4KYGbt0bD6
I would rather teach at a school where kids are allowed to be kids. where there is genuine joy in the hall and laughter in the class
Morning! Love to Leo on his win and speech! Got to see my future hubby Henry too! Susan from Jersey Shore
https://t.co/KAq1ikEfUn
I see. Obviously yes. Hungry are they?
Good morning/good night from Sydney. Definitely low-performing, I hope that's were I could make a positive impact
Joel from TN. Good Monday morning to all!
I'm on my bike too!! https://t.co/KgwXZ7IT7h
so agree. Words are power and so are you as an example to our Ss. On the bike right now.
And that's the catch isn't it? Too often that's the only way tech is utilized.
This is very true! Tech isn't an outcome!
Hi Missy! trying tweetdeck?
Yep.Kids are what it's about
Yes $$$ big issue on the tech front in schools - access + equity need to be talked about more
Tech doesn't make the difference in performance. Culture does. If I have leadership that I 100% trust, then I go to the low one.
high needs school requires passion, dedication, & perseverance. Many unfair stigmas & high crime. Kids deserve our best! My why
In 20 years, the kids aren't going to remember the tech they used, but they will remember the teacher that made a difference.
Low performing high tech! Currently in a school like this...hardest thing I've ever done, but I love it!
Yes! I agree. Tech is a tool, not the primary instructor. But I do love quality tech and so do students. https://t.co/q5Y7FeOgkL
I would choose high performing, low tech. High performing speaks to me of engagement, growth mindset, rich tasks, learning.
Sometimes I think we can hide behind tech. Good teaching uses the current resources & works to get students to learn regardless
Good morning/good night from Sydney. Definitely low-performing, I hope that's where I could make a positive impact
I would want low performing high tech. Believe I have more chance to meet individual needs. Meet them where they are at
A highlight for me last week was meeting f2f one of my friends: .
As always, thank you to the awesome team at for helping me bright and early w positivity!π https://t.co/YE0QD6aA02
Despite my last post, this is a tough question! I think build tech over time with the existing foundation of high performance.
I have felt the need for Legos and more real books lately. I want Ss to communicate more face to face.
Good morning High Perf, low tech for me! It would be a good challenge for the highly motivated Ss to work around!
Love this!! https://t.co/rDt8RkhP58
Sometimes I think we can hide behind tech. Good teaching uses the current resources & works to get students to learn regardless
Engagement is key. Tech provides additional ways to reach Ss. However, Ts are still number 1 when it comes to engagement.
After much deliberation I am going 2 agree w/ Lots of areas for success in this scenario https://t.co/XT1C5bO9vn
Morning! Low performing, high tech = lots of ways for success, engagement & growth.
Devices don't insure successful students just a tool important yes but goose teaching trumps tech must work in conjunction
Why, yes, I do! Need it this morning!
Hey now! Somebody's not following the rules of the game! ;)
So very true! https://t.co/oeJZ7sptIo
Tech doesn't make the difference in performance. Culture does. If I have leadership that I 100% trust, then I go to the low one.
. We hope we planned it that way... wanted to make it a hard choice. https://t.co/hrWY6zNYi0
Difficult question today! A reason I came 2 teaching was 2 work w/kids who were struggling or didn't have ed opportunities.
I also think it's way harder to change culture to become higher achieving than it is to live without tech
Sounds like a worthy distraction! https://t.co/kwLjDq1rzO
Slightly distracted. Watching our women's national soccer team take on Japan as part of olympic qualifiers. And it's on TV!
Have found most parents & students at low performing schools to be much more eager to try new things & push boundaries.
Love this!! https://t.co/R1tVPn3ALR
I would want low performing high tech. Believe I have more chance to meet individual needs. Meet them where they are at
In Twitter chats...it seems everyone has the best & latest tech tools...let's talk access & equity
I would rather focus on the things I do have and not the things I don't have.
a lot of tech doesn't mean good things are happening. Just like a little tech doesn't mean good things are not happening.
I agree. Also-wealthier schools often high performing. Chance for BYOD. Low perf=opportunity to serve those w/greater need?
The same could be said of a LP, HT school. If you bring in good admin & create + culture you can raise up https://t.co/inxG6iZqik
Tech doesn't make the difference in performance. Culture does. If I have leadership that I 100% trust, then I go to the low one.
If my kids can't simply talk to what they've learned without laptops or smart board programs, I haven't done my job
teaching at a challenging school can be very rewarding. They especially need outstanding teachers who are committed to excellence
Good morning . I'm thinking middle, middle. I want access to tech, not a mandate to tech.
I guess I keep reminding myself that technology is only one tool among many...even though it is very important today.
In my experience @ high performing schools, parents could sometimes be an obstacle - nitpicking grading, elaborate class parties 1/2
thats what I'm saying. Having a functional team is far more important than tech.
Having only been in a mid- perf sch myself, I'd like 2 know why you'd choose low perfrm. Is it the Ss or Ps? https://t.co/0IfGjazjV1
This is a great question regardless of tech level, I would always choose a low-performing school.
Interesting and diverse perspectives today!
High tech any place would be my preference, as long as it was supported/maintained long term which is the issue in high need areas
yes people first https://t.co/MmBgSp6TXV
thats what I'm saying. Having a functional team is far more important than tech.
I just want to teach engaging lesson. Tech is a vehicle to that means
There is more room for meaningful growth in a low performing school.
Great to see we are finally embracing women's sport. Coming from a dad of soccer girls
yes, that was my answer only if I had 2 choose between the two options. Don't need high tech 2 keep high performance!
Amen to that!! https://t.co/AFI81K2lxg
Tech doesn't make the difference in performance. Culture does. If I have leadership that I 100% trust, then I go to the low one.
For those of picking low performing, high tech, have you read "Myth of Hero Teacher?" https://t.co/gM9bzLxTcI bfc530
But we need to ask ourselves where "Low" & "High" R coming from. Do they = test scores?? Or do they=growth? https://t.co/flISR18V2L
I would choose high performing, low tech. High performing speaks to me of engagement, growth mindset, rich tasks, learning.
Low performing ... what does that even mean ... maybe they just need a different set of opportunities ... I'm there ...
Have an awesome one! 24 extra hours to be amazing! What will you do?
Yes, if school culture/ climate is low - chances are the struggle to impact learning is real. (Been there)
Haven't really been seeing the dichotomy as a proper choice. Would rather focus on advancing equity.
This conversation is similar to the thoughts that went into starting the , liking tech, but not excluding other options.
...even arguing re: who's in charge of being The Room Mom. I haven't had a Room Mom in years now! So much easier to do my JOB.
it's about the Ss anyway. Let's meet them and help.
I would be willing to say that high tech school has a different idea about what high and preforming means
Often Ts are their primary advocates.
What is meant by low performing? Challenging kids? That's my cup of tea. Stagnant teaching? No initiative? No testing 4 me either!
This!!! https://t.co/cxL1XK7IPn
Sometimes I think we can hide behind tech. Good teaching uses the current resources & works to get students to learn regardless
I have 2 soccer girls and played myself in college so k get the excitement! https://t.co/GwIZY5Mlk8
Great to see we are finally embracing women's sport. Coming from a dad of soccer girls
Good morning to you! How goes it?
We all have at some point. Fixing it is a real problem.
I went from a school w no tech 3 years ago to a school w lots of tech & budget. My teaching principles still the same!
That does bring up a whole new aspect.. you could suggest it as a ?? for
that's really the question, ifwere talking standardised test scores yeeech not a true measure of Ss learning https://t.co/9x6NumvNN0
But we need to ask ourselves where "Low" & "High" R coming from. Do they = test scores?? Or do they=growth? https://t.co/flISR18V2L
I would choose high performing, low tech. High performing speaks to me of engagement, growth mindset, rich tasks, learning.
I'm very partial to this question. I teach at a low perf, high tech school. Love using tech to expand Ss horizons.
Can't make this morning but will definitly be checking out the feed later! Happy Monday everyone!
one size does not always fit all
Good to know that a high performance school did it w/o tech. For those schools w/o CAN be great schools with great teachers/leaders!
Still agreeing with this Chris π https://t.co/yFOnaapzRj
Despite my last post, this is a tough question! I think build tech over time with the existing foundation of high performance.
Have a good day all! in a positive way!
From the director of Inside/Out. I'd rather find the fun motovation. Bike, car or feet, they all can travel. https://t.co/9SQz4ne4wV
Totally agree!! https://t.co/dxnOGA1nW8
thats what I'm saying. Having a functional team is far more important than tech.
Have to run. Glad to be a T where I am. Wasn't an option, but it always is.
this is difficult 4me. I strive not 2b an either/kind of guy. I live nthe middle so that I can adapt 2what's best 4the s time
Oh, this Q is making my head hurt! Issues are so very rarely either/or, so I'm having a tough time pinning my thoughts down
Neither does my institution Kathy but access & equity are rarely given time in Twitter chats
Low performing presents so many opportunities for growth among students, parents, & teachers. Exciting! (And challenging!)
I like putting the emphasis on people/Ss/Ts' learning and relationship building above technology...with tech seen as support.
I want kids meeting potential regardless of tech - if always hope they're high performing. I think the "high tech" is fun for Ts.
we have same. Unfortunately, our laptops are tied up for testing a lot of the time.
my bad ... i'm one of those rule bender ... bend to fit the needs of my kids ...
Tech is like best supporting actress/actor.
It goes. Preparing for FSA Writing tomorrow. I can't wait for Saturday!
exactly...are we talking about growth or proficiency? I work at a school with low prof., but great growth and love it
Same here! I still haven't answered the Q Yet.
We're totally on the same page with this one Eric!
Have a great Monday everyone!
True, we have weeks where they are unavailable. ugh!
The thoughtful perspectives provided by all of you just makes the issue more complex, too
ive been in lo and hi tech schools. The *culture* is the difference- what are our values and mission?
Do you all have a tech support teacher in your building?
I'm still on: What is low performing? Who decides? Is it only test? Is the faculty performing? The admin?
That's the idea! These questions get us thinking/challenging our own assumptions
Iβd choose low-performing, high/tech. Room for growth. Good grounds for developing & evolving my teaching strategy toolbox.
Come on in! We'll take the help.
that must be so frustrating!
