A chat that offers middle school teachers a chance to have a collaborative discussion about a different topic each week. Our topics change from week to week, ranging from Common Core State Standards to Character Education. During the chat, participants exchanges ideas and resources. The chat group ranges in size each week from 10 to 50+ participants. Discussion can be general talking about instructional style or process to specific. Recently members of the chat group help each other create lessons.

Q1: What do you wish you knew more about to help you prepare for inclusion?
A1: I wish I had time to know more about my students, how they tick and learn: Would desire classroom observation

A3: LARGEST barrier of meeting needs of ALL is TIME. ... Time for relationships, Time for learning, Time is a barrier
YES! We are using 's Mathematical Mindsets strategies in my class.
A3: meeting all Ss needs requires efficiency and prioritizing. Working on that.

A3: Barrier may can be Technology too: Access can often be a problem for student and in district
A3: Sometimes the biggest barrier is their mindset, which is why teaching a growth mindset is so important.
Agreed many students are so stuck in a fixed mindset; ask for spelling help while holding their Iphone

Q4: What technology do you use to help meet the needs of your differently abled students?
A3: Behavior choices can be a barrier if Teachers allow it to be one
A4: I use what ever technology works for the student: BYOD, Website with assignments, anything to inform and engage
A4 creating PDF with audio of teacher reading tests/assignments to challenged readers
A4: Edmodo, screencastify, kami, google docs, backchannels
A4: Technology can be a great tool to level the field
A4: has been a game changer for increased engagement for ALL of my Ss. So many grouping abilities and live polls
We have been doing more and more of this as of late: Finding good success but student access is an issue
Do your students have 1 to 1? We are still a "computer lab" school so access can be an issue for our students
so true! Being creative, innovative, and willing to take risks van push back these barriers
I have been using BYOD but am finding students need me to use their devices for learning otherwise SM or game tool
Some contnt areas have chromebooks to be used in classes each day and all schools are now BYOD capable
I am one of few teachers to do BYOD and we lack Wifi so very limiting
Q5 What benefits have you seen from inclusion, both for students with IEPs and general education students?
definitely difficult...we are fortunate to have robust wifi

A5: Benefit of inclusion is the diversity in the classroom, the acceptance of everyone being unique and learning at own pace

That is great Ken! We are working on it but I use my IPhone as a hotspot right now Bond coming
A5 confidence goes up when we put disabled kids in an inviting accommodated room with their typically developing peers.

A5 inclusion when implemented w/support 4Ts allows Ss to seek the strength of others in group work
I wish I could make it this year! but Teachers got to teach! I will join the virtual
I know I can connect with ALL students every day: Just hope I connected w/ RIGHT students each day!
