Welcome to #edtechchat! Please introduce yourself and share from where you’re joining us! Tonight’s topic is Microsoft in the Classroom and we are pleased to welcome guest moderators @sdtitmas and @kerszi!
We will be participating in another #edtechchat tonight at 8pm. Join us to share your ideas about technology in education with principals, teachers, and #edtech enthusiasts around the world! 😎🌎 📱
Hi everyone! I’m Kathi, a Tech Integration Specialist from NJ. I’m also a former Elem Teacher, Special Ed Teacher, & Computer Teacher! I’m super stoked to talk & learn about one of my greatest passions...Accessibility & Inclusion For All! Thanks for joining us for #edtechchat
Hey all! Amanda, 4th grade teacher from East Brunswick, NJ here! Tweeting while watching Bachelor in Paradise. I promise not to intersect the two. 🤣 #edtechchat
A1: I admired this graphic for years, but it only showed the left 2 pics. Recently, someone added that image on the right & now it’s perfect! We SHOULD remove barriers when we can! There are some great #edtech products to help us - like @MicrosoftEDU Learning Tools! #edtechchat
A1) It is our duty as educators to do what we can to level the playing filed for all. I didn't have a fair shake so I will do all I can to make sure my students do. #EdTechChat
A1: It surprised me recently to hear that not everyone knows about Microsoft’s FREE Learning Tools. They're available to everyone & they are the 🗝️ to giving your students independence & accessibility! Check out my passionate blog post: https://t.co/QX5oJ7TFNs#edtechchat
#edtechchat - Ray, 7th Grade Math Teacher from Rhode Island.
Check out the first episode of the Instant Relevance Podcast (@InstantRel)! Denis Sheeran (@MathDenisNJ) and I talk about how to make learning relevant for all students:
https://t.co/45ePaLxJSn
A1: One small thing I do is I purchased a large screen TV with two HDMI ports; some students cannot see the small Chromebook screen so well #edtechchat
Access and equity...try to remove time and space constraints. Moving to lms and towards competency based allows Ss to learn when they’re ready #edtechchat
a1 as teachers we shouldn't just want our pupils to achieved expectations but exceed them. TO do this we need to make sure that all the right tools are available for all pupils to be able to access depending on their needs. #edtechchat
Surprise! If you didn't already know this, I'm so happy to let you know that YES...you can ALL give all of your students these amazing gifts & opportunities using @microsoftEdu products! Be THAT teacher who empowers all of your students with what they need to succeed! #edtechchat
A1 Every student has a right to learn. Leveling the playing field allows all Ss to have a voice. I do this for my ELs with tools such @mstranslator, the Learning Tools in @msonenote especially Immersive Reader. I also use @Flipgrid to give my Els speaking practice. #edtechchat
A1. #edtechchat life throws enough at so many different students. Have to give all the chance to succeed. Dorgis by ensuring everyone has same device and chance to use them.
A1: It's important to give Ss an even playing field because they should all be given opportunities to succeed. Evening the playing field could be the difference between knowing or not knowing our Ss strengths #edtechchat
Want to know more about these amazing #LearningTools? Of course, please free to reach out or DM me, but you can also head on over to this site for a great overview (and to try it out!) https://t.co/wCu6sSQDyF#edtechchat
A1: Since I just attended the @Newsela summer session today, I’m going to use Newsela as my answer. It’s a great tool for students to read the same article but on differentiated levels so the discussion amongst Ss can be about the same topic. No one feels left out. #edtechchat
Respondents who reported high learning outcomes were more likely to:
Have detailed technology visions& plans
Involve teachers & students in technology planning
Formally and regularly evaluate the effectiveness of their technology @ScitechEuropahttps://t.co/LGsoyHj6aU#EdTechChat
I believe it is only right to give all students an equal chance at success. I do this by using various types of authentic assessments and teaching to the different learning styles. #edtechchat
A1 if you want everyone engaged they have to feel like they have an equal shot. I’ve been in games where there’s no way I’m in the running and I give up. I provide many ways for S’s to get an equal chance, one way is a S uses voice to text for writing ✍️#edtechchat
A1: all Ss have the right to excel and achieve regardless of race, SES, ethnicity, socialization, sexuality, etc.....we need to give them the tools and resources to do so...implementing the principles of #UDL, #equity, and #inquiry are essential. #edtechchat
#edtechchat
A1) I differentiate and modify all of my instructional materials to meet the needs of the 3 most common learning disabilities (dyslexia, dysgraphia, & ADD/ADHD) even if I don't have anyone identified, they are best practices for ALL students!
Our learners come from such different backgrounds and life experiences. In our classrooms we use a lot of Microsofts Learrning Tools to help make ourlearning experiences more equitable, and our district supplies each student3-12 grade a laptop they can take home. #edtechchat
A1: it’s important for teachers to recognize the students as individuals with unique learning paths. Differentiation is responsive Teaching. It’s time to move all learners forward. #edtechchat
A1) I level the playing field by tons of repetition and introducing Ss to the same tech tools over again throughout the semester like a refresher. Sometimes with new tools within the tech. #EdTechChat#microsoftedu
A1 important to note we have the tools available to scale student centered learning, not previously available...we have a moral and ethical duty to allow for Ss to pursue opportunity #edtechchat
a1. The days of teachers saying "This is how I teach and this is what I use!" should be gone! We all learn different ways just like our Students. Teachers need to invest time in looking at tools for the classroom that help their pupils to be more and do more! #edtechchat
A1: it’s important for teachers to recognize the students as individuals with unique learning paths. Differentiation is responsive Teaching. It’s time to move all learners forward. #edtechchat

Q2 Microsoft’s Immersive Reader allows students to change text size, background color, highlight parts of speech, utilize a picture dictionary, syllable breaking, line focus, and even have the text read aloud. How do you see these features helping your students? #edtechchat
A1: it’s important for teachers to recognize the students as individuals with unique learning paths. Differentiation is responsive Teaching. It’s time to move all learners forward. #edtechchat
A1: It’s important to give students the opportunity to engage in your content - they must feel like they can succeed and digest what they’re learning or else you’ve lost them all year! Differentiate content for all of your learners.. @Newsela and @CommonLit can help. #edtechchat
Agreed. Huge fan of @Newsela high-quality NF that allows access to all students without the stigma of being in a different group or getting a different text. #EdTechCHat
Love the analogy of wanting to give up in a game when you fall behind being exactly how students feel when they are unsuccessful and struggling! #EdTechChat
A1 if you want everyone engaged they have to feel like they have an equal shot. I’ve been in games where there’s no way I’m in the running and I give up. I provide many ways for S’s to get an equal chance, one way is a S uses voice to text for writing ✍️#edtechchat
I was one of those students but the best thing for me was when they pulled it all away and said you figure out how you learn best. Once I figured that out I excelled #EdTechChat
A1 - #edtechchat -Part of our jobs as educators is to create an atmosphere where all student can learn. I do this by using #blendedlearning technologies so that students can learn at their own pace. I no longer teach in front of the class. See how I do it: https://t.co/XshqOcviSX
https://t.co/qyRGt0e9Vn like Learning tools not just assists those who need the extra help but also the more able - using it as a proof reader can give more time to the teacher to assist those who need it - win win situation! #edtechchat
A2: Accessibility! I’ve had students who focus better when handouts are on blue paper - so many small tips and tricks to enhance engagement #edtechchat
A2: I like all of the features listed. It’s like a choice board for students. They choose the features that they want to use, based on what they NEED. #edtechchat
A2 the read aloud can really help my visually impaired kids. All the other tools are great in assisting language learners with reading and speaking.#edtechchat
This sounds like a great tool for ESOL students and students with visual disabilities. I have worked with students who would have greatly benefited from being able to easily change text size and background color. #edtechchat
I've been lucky enough to meet with a few members of the team like Mike and Justin and I have to say I'm REALLY impressed. These folks have their finger on the pulse! #edtechchat
Q2 Microsoft’s Immersive Reader allows students to change text size, background color, highlight parts of speech, utilize a picture dictionary, syllable breaking, line focus, and even have the text read aloud. How do you see these features helping your students? #edtechchat
A2: I can’t help but share a couple of screenshots of some of my FAVE features from @MicrosoftEDU Learning Tools! Look how amazing! How empowering! How powerful these tools are for students! #edtechchat
A2: All of these sound awesome! Being a history teacher I use a lot of primary source documents which can be challenging for Ss. The variety of these tools can be helpful for a variety of students to practice close reading and annotation #edtechchat#MicrosoftEdu
A2: These tools will give students the ability to customize their learning in a way that is individualized. Some features may seem silly to us, but it allows them feel ownership with what they are reading. #edtechchat
A2: Learning Tools can help EVERYONE! Such powerful features to provide options and customize the learning experience to meet each Ss unique needs #edtechchat#atchat
What's the solution? I think with anything teachers need to assess each situation on a case by case basis. Agreed? Especially with LD, no one thing can apply to every student. #edtechchat
a2. simple - it develops confident happy learners - struggling pupils often disengage do to not being able to access the work - not they can reengage and achieve. Changes a whole mindset of an individual! #edtechchat
A2 S’s all have diff levels of need, a tool like this provides all different sorts of training wheels for those who still need them but only if you need them. It lowers anxiety knowing if you need help it’s there #edtechchat#MicrosoftEdu#MIEExpert#LearningTools#edtechchat
What's the solution? I think with anything teachers need to assess each situation on a case by case basis. Agreed? Especially with LD, no one thing can apply to every student. #edtechchat
A2. Students can work at their own pace. They don't have to wait for teachers or parents to help them with their work. I also like how these tools to help shy students who may not want to ask for help reading, so they quietly slip behind because they wont ask for help #edtechchat
A2 Being able to change background and text colours can help S’s with visual tracking issues. All the tools allow access for S’s with learning differences #edtechchat
A2: A2: these features can def support Ss who have different needs - the key is to remember to ensure the text is accessible to Ss - some Ss might need another text #edtechchat
Whoa! #edtechchat JUST thought of this one. Aside from all these great tools, how about just ensuring we celebrate ALL of the small and big successes of our students! #MicrosoftTeams and @justinchando have include some GREAT turn-in celebrations in Teams. #edtechchat
What's the solution? I think with anything teachers need to assess each situation on a case by case basis. Agreed? Especially with LD, no one thing can apply to every student. #edtechchat
A2 The tools in Immersive Reader are game changers 4 my ELs.They are able to read text much earlier than before because of the supports. The Picture Dictionary makes it so that every student can connect with the text at some level.Listening to the reading is also huge. #edtechchat
A2: Do I think Ss need to be strong readers? Absolutely. I also think that we should not force Ss to fit in the box of “strong readership” when there are incredible technologies allowing EVERY student to be a effectively consume information to do something with it. #edtechchat
Nooo...the IEP team assess the situation based on the identified and tested needs of the disabled student. The teacher doesn't determine if a student does or does not need a support. The IEP team does that based on evidence based data.
#edtechchat

@sdtitmas, @nathan_stevens, @s_bearden
A2: as a literacy educator, Immersive Reader provides students options to support access, comprehension & vocabulary. Paired with an expert teacher, many readers, including those who struggle, are emerging, and even ELs benefit from these tools #edtechchat
Putting everyone on the same playing field minimizes confusion and builds classroom community, fostering a safe space for learning and sharing. #EdTechChat

Agreed. Huge fan of @Newsela high-quality NF that allows access to all students without the stigma of being in a different group or getting a different text. #EdTechCHat
Fair enough, but I don't think these tools are strictly for students with IEPs either. I had some of my high achieving students using the Immersive Reader to proofread their work or for close reading. #edtechchat

A3: I use the Dictation feature in #MicrosoftEdu Immersive Reader every day. I just work better when I can speak my thoughts. Do you have students like that? I say what’s on my mind, it appears on the screen, and then I go back to review & edit later! #edtechchat
#edtechchat - Q3 - I think speech dictation is just another tool that we can use to remove a barrier between student ability and learning, especially those Ss with disabilities.
A2) Literally... if my book opened up and a human size hologram of the author popped up and spoke to me for the duration of the book being open, I would be totally fine with that. Cough… @MicrosoftEDU 😉 #edtechchat
A3) Younger students and those that are fearful of the writing process can dictate what is needed and make edits afterwords. Less fear for the student. #EdTechChat
A3: So many Ss use speech-to-text dictation on their personal devices. Incorporating it into the classroom just makes sense. This will help Ss get out their ideas. I can see this pairing well with @Flipgrid. #shamelessplug#edtechchat
A1: everyone is entitled to learn. My students use many #MicrosoftEdu tools to bridge gaps. #OneNote is one of my favs as it helps a variety of #LD students. #edtechchat
A3: My students have used #dictation to record themselves reading to listen for errors. They also use dictation to record their peer review comments on their peers writing after they have used #LearningTools and immersive reader to hear the writing #EdTechChat#MIEExpert
a3. Dictation is another great way to develop confidence in speaking, something that pupils initially reluctant to do. Getting used to hearing your voice out loud is a huge things! #edtechchat
Hi #edtechchat! I am running super late! But, just had an opportunity to say hi to my now retired 3rd grade teacher 😁
Had to take a minute to thank her 💕
All the time. I use it so that I can multitask. It's good strategy, and I frequently recommend it to people. It's a nice surprise to be able to get something else done while your email is read to you! #edtechchat
Q3 #edtechchat I
We've got many students using dictation tools to help with writing. They tell the story then go back and exit. Very powerful tool for people not adept with a keyboard.
A3: Some ELLs may struggle with writing so their understanding of material may not come across in written assessments. The dictation tool would allow these Ss to demonstrate their learning and could boost confidence! #edtechchat
We had a student who had issues with her hands and had a hard time typing. We used the windows version of talk to text last year, but we will be using this, this year for her. I can also see using it in lower grades. #edtechchat
A3: Students can always use dictation for brainstorming! Quick to get their thoughts down and very organic. Also, a student who doesn’t like to write as much can dictate what they know for things such as short answers and essays. #edtechchat
A3: it helps b/c you can talk w/o interruption and get all your thoughts down...with writing, you can lose your train of thought and forget what you wanted to say b/c you were focused on the writing. #edtechchat
A3: as a former writing teacher, I would have LOVED having dictation! I often had students struggling to get their ideas on paper and I would have them dictate to me their thoughts to get them started on paper. Dictate + @msonenote would have been a game changer! #edtechchat
A3: here’s the point, these tools are available, for free, and it allows students independence in expression. Dyslexia and other reading/writing struggles have nothing to do with how smart a child is. Heck, I may have used dictation to do all my tweets tonight :) #edtechchat
A3: for students with motor issues or even Fibromyalgia it offers some relief. Had a professor with fibromyalgia who swore by dictation softwares #edtechchat
A3 I have a S who struggles w/ her phonemes. It gets in the way for her writing. Dictation allows her to share her brilliant ideas & she chooses to hand copy the writing so it matches other S’s, total equalizer #edtechchat#edtechchat#MicrosoftEdu#MIEExpert#LearningTools
A3: here’s the point, these tools are available, for free, and it allows students independence in expression. Dyslexia and other reading/writing struggles have nothing to do with how smart a child is. Heck, I may have used dictation to do all my tweets tonight :) #edtechchat
One of the best things about these @MicrosoftEdu Learning Tools is that they're free! We used to PAY for Dictation software....hahaha! Those days are gone, thank goodness! #edtechchat
A3 I love this feature, sometimes it it easier to "write" when you are thinking out loud and the words are being typed in, then you can go back and revise #edtechchat
A3: Dictation is now built into @Office365 Word/PPT/Outlook Desktop, #OneNote Win10 apps, and coming soon for Word/OneNote/PPT Online (web). Built-in, mainstream, non-stigmatizing,. More details in here: https://t.co/5H3moiFjVp#EdTechChat#mieexpert
A1: a level playing field is not equal education for all ss, it is the best education we can offer each student. A level playing field places each child on a journey towards their own success #edtechchat
A3 It is a great tool for students who may find it difficult to get those first words down, I know that I can write more by just talking and letting it type #edtechchat#MicrosoftEdu
But a huge responsibility on us now! Choosing not to introduce the students to these tools is a failure on our part and mpacting on their future! Conscience shouldn't allow it to happen! #edtechchat
YAY!!! Congrats and let's get a trophy, a ribbon, and a big giant gold medal for Bret! He GETS it! There's so much goodness and opportunity to be had with @MicrosoftEdu products! #MicrosoftEdu@mtholfsen#edtechchat
Everyone! All students need helpful tools at different times! Teach all the tools to all the students, and they’ll use what they need when they need it most. #edtechchat
Our solution: Forty hours. Over 40 hrs of prof skills development and STEM industry exposure for @code2college students. Resume-building, interview prep and much more. #edtechchat
It is so beneficial for so many reasons! I have used it for tweets, more lately because of recent shoulder surgery, but such a great feature! #edtechchat
A4: All students - and check out this 3rd party Microosft Leanring Tools research study that showed just that. ALL students benefitted from the tools: https://t.co/PwdWtmmtEa#EdTechChat#mieexpert
All learners can benefit from these tools. If you show the students the tools and how to use them, they will run with it. Don't be afraid of the technology. #edtechchat
A4 when we remove obstacles the learning, creativity, innovation all flows. Too much struggle causes stress & anxiety, these shut down learning, when a S feels the oppression of struggle lifted they stand up w/ pride as they express themselves their ideas #edtechchat
Assistive tech can help students with disabilities become more independent. My brother was a quadriplegic and assistive tech opened up the world for him. #edtechchat
In reply to
@Gregbagby, @nathan_stevens, @shfarnsworth
My pal @hminto calls that "situational" disability. We all have those situations from time to time. We all need tools that we can choose to turn on as modifications, and we should be empowered to use them whenever we need them, right? #MicrosoftEdu#edtechchat
A4: When saying everybody, we are including the teacher, administration, support staff, and parents, correct? Every party benefits with the success of a child! #edtechchat
Absolutely! In @MrYanuzzelli 's class, the @MicrosoftEDU team witnessed first hand how his students chose the tools they needed WHEN they needed them. #edtechchat
In reply to
@SachelleD, @MrYanuzzelli, @MicrosoftEDU
A4: All learners can benefit from these tools. It’s not a matter of ability level, but how you use the tools to further your own awesomeness #EdTechChat#MIEExpert
And they are barriers. They cause embarrassment & loss of confidence. These tools lift that off the student so they can reach their full potential. They have great thinking that gets log jammed. #edtechchat#MicrosoftEdu#MIEExpert#LearningTools
Lots of great resources being shared in tonight's #edtechchat! Be sure to check out the chat archives to be sure you don't miss anything! https://t.co/oBGfL9Ijfc
I remember a students's sister who is non-verbal with multiple disabilities getting an iPad and how just that piece of communication changed so much about her... tearing up now. #EdTechChat
In reply to
@s_bearden, @nathan_stevens, @shfarnsworth
A4 the multi-tools can benefit everyone, yes. They also can allow typical learner to customize how they learn under varying conditions. Captioning and mobile apps may fit break time or after family time #edtechchat
I had a student go from crying when called on in class to sharing her "youtube style" book reflection (with her dog co-starring) because an option to use Flipgrid was given. #edtechchat
I use dictation to write all of my blog posts, most of my emails, and pretty much anything that's longer than a sentence or two. Dictation is my jam! 🎸 #edtechchat
In reply to
@sdtitmas, @Rdene915, @shfarnsworth, @jmattmiller
Auditory learners would benefit from hearing their speech read back to them. Visual learners could benefit from changing the texts to meet their preferences #edtechchat
A5: What about Language Translation? Once again, @microsoftedu has us covered. It’s built in, and they’re adding more languages all the time. This not only helps students communicate and learn, but it can help with family communication, too! #edtechchat
Okay #edtechchat#formativechat I'm super sad 😭 I missed the chats tonight but I was too into 'All the light you cannot see' ❤️ what's next? Send me all your recommendations!
A5: Visibility! If you have students with vision issues, Microsoft’s #LearningTools can increase text size & spacing, change backround colors, choose better fonts, and insert Alt Text for pictures so that photo descriptions can be read aloud! #edtechchat
a5 Teachers sharing with teachers....equality not just in your classroom or school but across all schools!! ALL KIDS! #AmplifyTeacherVoice#sharing#edtechchat
Great point, Luis! All teachers need to be on board. Let's move past the "it's not fair." YES IT IS! It's "not fair" if we DON'T provide these supports. #edtechchat
A5 Ts who understand the tech and are willing g to accept different demonstrations of knowledge. Infrastructure including microphones or headphones #edtechchat
A5. When choosing #edtech tools to use in the classroom, make sure that the tool is free to students/parents, or that the company at least offers reduced pricing for low income students. Although most #edtech companies are for-profit, no child should be left out #edtechchat
A5 Equitable accessibility is dependent on infrastructure. Equity in application of multi-tools is dependent upon training and learning curve. Encourage #makerspace experimentation and collaboration w multi-tools. #Edtechchat
A5: Try to see it my way
Only time will tell if I am right or I am wrong
While you see your way,
There's a chance that we may fall apart before too long
We can work it out
We can work it out
Life is very short, and there's no time
For fussing and fighting, my friend #edtechchat
A5: understanding what those terms mean and how to convey hen across a students day at school. Helping to foster a sense of community built around the students and not built around the buzz words #EdTechChat#MIEExpert
A5: Be sure to share out the Microsoft Translator for education site. It’s a life changing capability for both #ELL students as well as their parents https://t.co/f3zJxwLLdW#EdTechChat
Consistency across all grade levels as well. Heck, Consistency for all teachers. Not saying everyone has to be a tech guru, but we need everyone at a minimal level of tech understanding and use. #edtechchat#myhardestjob
Can do attitudes and people willing to step out of their comfort zones to support students with these tools. Sometimes spreading the word and training isn't enough. #edtechchat
A5 The great thing about differentiation is it works for all students. Helps move everyone forward. That’s why I love the @MicrosoftEDU Learning Tools so much! #edtechchat
A5. Can do attitudes and people willing to step out of their comfort zones to support students with these tools. Sometimes spreading the word and training isn't enough. #edtechchat
Q5 #edtechchat I am entering this chat late, sorry! I believe that all learners need to have access to the right tools and resources that will best assist them in their individualized educational journeys.
@lu_surma had some great examples of administrators using MS Translator during back to school/open house presentations. They transformed the school culture!! #edtechchat
A5: Providing students with and educating them about the tools that can help them be successful. Knowing enough about your students to be able to find them tools that will assist them. #edtechchat
Q6: A key piece to our roles in the classroom is empowering students! Going forward, how will you use these tools to empower your students? #edtechchat
a5 Introduce these tools to the teacher assistant who works closely with pupils - they will encourage their use across all lessons #strategy#edtechchat
A6 have students create tutorials to teach other students. Have them record their creations. If you can explain a task then you understand the content #EdTechCHat
A6: Once Ts show Ss these amazing #MicrosoftEdu tools, students can run with it and use them to empower themselves as learners. The best learning is done through the eyes of the student, not what the teacher tells the student what to learn. #Edtechchat
A6) Embrace the job of a facilitator, as the students have all the knowledge of the world at their fingertips. Teach them how to harness that power. #EdTechChat
Q6: A key piece to our roles in the classroom is empowering students! Going forward, how will you use these tools to empower your students? #edtechchat
A6: Feed into their needs as a kid and help support them through this emotional journey called learning and use the tools to show them that independence and success in the classroom is possible for them #EdTechChat#igotyou#together
a5 Introduce these tools to the teacher assistant who works closely with pupils - they will encourage their use across all lessons #strategy#edtechchat
A6 the thing is to have students create artifact pieces that can be used for career or college portfolio. Not something trapped in an LMS but reachable by the world #EdTechCHat
A6. Until recently, introverted students were seen as less intelligent because they were uncomfortable with speaking up and sharing their ideas. Now, many #edtech tools empower these students to share their ideas with no fear, further leveling the paying field #edtechchat
A6: Modeling how using these tools is not just tech, it's not just SAMR, it's not just cool, it; it is a game changer, it's like being able to see/hear when you could not before; mind-blowing, world expanding #edtechchat
These tools give Ss freedom to drive their own learning! They know how they learn best. We need to keep promoting student voice. Let them take the wheel! #edtechchat
A6) new to the chat, 2nd Grade teacher east penn. I let the students take lessons from class and ask questions that lead to a solution or route to a solution. I then try to make connections that will put them in contact with organizations that they can help a cause. #Edtechchat
A6 as teachers we must guarantee that no stigma will be attached to using tools that enable those who need them. They must become as commonplace as the pencil. It’s no different than the kid embarrassed to wear his glasses #edtechchat
In a support role I want to empower my students and teachers. I am going to do more training and go into classes and coteach with teachers incorporating these tools until the teacher feels good about what they are doing. #edtechchat
a6. Be more like the A-TEAM : Here is what we need to achieve, here are the tools we have access to....make something special! #LoveItWhenAPlanComesTogether#edtechchat
A6 By sharing the choices with Ss, asking Ss for feedback about the tools they have used, what they liked, how it helped them to learn, encourage peer collab to teach each other abt the tools #edtechchat#mieexpert#learningtools
Yes, teachers need to be comfortable, BUT they can't wait until their "experts" before putting the tools in the hands of students. I find too many teachers hesitate on tech because they don't know every ounce of it. #edtechchat
A6. In a support role I want to empower my students and teachers. I am going to do more training and go into classes and coteach with teachers incorporating these tools until the teacher feels good about what they are doing. #edtechchat
Yessir! That's why I'm an advocate of teaching all the tools to all the learners....and letting them decide when they want to turn them on. The ease of use and embedded features in @microsoftedu products make it almost seamless & invisible. #edtechchat
A6 Remember that Ss aren't always "kids". I presented to #SpEd staff this week and asked for a volunteer for the Person feature in #SeeingAI, not knowing the person was legally blind. She told someone after that it was a life changer. I nearly cried with joy. #edtechchat
Q6 #edtechchat I would like to experiment with these tools more myself first. Then, I'd like to create screencasts for students explaining features of these tool that they could use in and out of class. I'd like to post these on our LMS for students to access from home.
See I am the opposite. I like to let the students explore the tools and teach me. It is important to know what a tool won’t do as much as what it can do. #EdTechCHat
In reply to
@kerszi, @MichaelJDunlea, @MicrosoftEDU
I heard a quote today at the @Newsela workshop that’s relevant here. The presenter said that Ss don’t read the directions on how to play a video game, they just play it. Their character dies & they play again & again until they “beat” the game. This is true with tech. #Edtechchat
Shout-out to @kerszi for being an EPIC co-moderator with me tonight! It was an honor to work with her on this chat.
ANDDD thank you to @s_bearden and the #edtechchat crew for having us!
