The copyrights expired on Jan 1 for many classic works. Including works by D.H. Lawrence & Agatha Christie.
What are your thoughts: will this benefit or harm their work?

I agree with @aoakes4: it will help with availability.
Not sure if there will be a surge in demand for Lady Chatterly this weekend, but I may be wrong...
Irony: SONS AND LOVERS is on my 2019 short list to read.

As scholars continue to respect intellectual property when copyrights are expiring by utilizing creative commons and use appropriate attribution. Give credit where it is due. #BFC530
Publishing houses can also now take these works and modify them, I think, Bridget. #BFC530 I know that some folks get incensed when they're fiddled with, like making them into a graphic novel. I don't think that that's a bad thing. Again more possible readers.
I'll echo others. The benefits will outweigh the negs. Access for sure. But now we need to intro those resources / accessibility for Ss. "Classics" sound stodgy to them. Mini-lessons using excerpts - for mood, tone, & theme, esp - might be kinda cool. #bfc530
I'm hosting @NASSP's #PrinLeaderChat this Sunday night for a quick 30-minute PD event.
Thought some of my #bfc530 friends might be interested in stopping by.
I have made my daughters diner lovers, but my wife (who is from WV, not NJ) has never grown fond of the ability to eat almost anything you want in one place even though she has lived here for 20 years. I don't get it LOL #bfc530
Nah, I *LIKE* this idea a lot!
I think it would transform accessibility tremendously... beyond just getting a copy in their hands.
I think that's a cottage industry waiting to be found.

.@CoachKCullen When traveling with my family, I prefer diners to any restaurant. A true taste of local culture.
Put me in the list of people who enjoy your Friday tradition Cheers!

My daughter picked up a graphic novel at the book fair this year. I needed to explain to me wife that is was a good thing (and my daughter was engrossed with it) I think it's just the paradigm shift away from text only as the only academic type of reading #bfc530
My 6th graders love graphic novels, and I've seen them reading so much more by having them in my classroom. It is a format that they relate to, and is a great stepping stone for the "I hate reading" kid to an actual text-novel. I'm good with whatever gets them reading! #bfc530

I read many of the classics in graphic novel form ... it was a strange set on the back shelf by my seat in 6th grade (1982) ... I’m not a big novel reader but I read these without being asked. #BFC530

I remember reading Moby Dick and Frankenstein as graphic novels. I can still picture their covers in my head. But the graphic novels then and now - as they've worked themselves into the mainstream, have changed dramatically. Would like to see refreshed versions #bfc530

Its interesting that we dont allow students to do pleasure reading in schools. Somehow it has to be incorporated so that the love of reading and the development of literacy returns for the sake of our students. #bfc530
Thinking about the graphic novels of my youth vs now, they seem to me to be like tattoos. Only the "dregs of society" had tattoos 'back then.' The designs seemed quite cookie cutter. Now tats are mainstream. Designs push creative limits. That's what I want from go's. #bfc530
I wanted to make a short film from Stopping by Woods a few years ago. Unfortunately, I have moved and don’t have the same backdrop. I may try a collaborative approach this year. #bfc530
