Q1: Welcome to #TECHtalkGA! Share your name/dist/role and the location of the makerspace in your school (i.e. STEM lab, school library, still hoping for one)?
A1: Mete Akcaoglu, Associate Professor and Program Director, Instructional Technology program @GeoSouthernCOE. Our #makerspace is in COE serving students, faculty and local educators #TECHtalkGA
A1: #TECHtalkGA Chuck Hodges Professor of Instructional Technology at Georgia Southern University. We have a dedicated space, the Innovation Studio @iStudioGSU
A1: Amanda. Middle school Spanish. Technically we don’t have a schoolwide area. teachers have makeshift ones in some classes. i have Legos. ;) #TECHtalkGA
A2: Tech & tools. Circa year 2000 WL lab and CD Roms w/ textbooks. i created activities within Publisher and that eveolved to travel brochures! #TECHtalkGA
A1: Lucas Jensen, Assistant Professor in the Instructional Technology program at @GeoSouthernCOE. We have a terrific MakerSpace called the Innovation Studio. I have also done workshops at our local library, using their space/equipment. #TECHtalkGA
A2: Tech & tools. Circa year 2000 WL lab and CD Roms w/ textbooks. I created activities within Publisher and that evolved to travel brochures! Now I think it’s both. #TECHtalkGA
A2: Though I believe that effective tech integration puts pedagogy and needs first, I was always a tech/tool guy, going back to the Apple IIe we got in the early 80s. #TECHtalkGA
A2: I think that you have to ask the " why" question first. You have to have good pedogogy. But also, say if you are driving traffic towards your Media Center you have to have amazing tools and great ways for students to express themselves! #techtalkga
A2: We’ve got a bit of a mix! We’ve got some cool tech and a great #stem program that is pedagogically focused and growing! I’d love to see a space available to all! #TECHtalkGA
Agreed on this. I can tell you exactly when to hit the space bar to shoot the deer in Oregon Trail...but not much else about the actual content of the game! #TECHtalkGA
A3: We are working on our maker spaces. I really hope that our Maker spaces help our students 1)Ask better questions and 2)Find multiple ways to solve problems #TECHtalkGA
A3: I have noticed problem solving skills and collaboration. Many times students often come to the space as a way to express their creativity. I often witness them coming as a place to "get away" and always leaving eager to return. #TechTalkGa
Q3: I try to emphasize the creative side of technology use and how newer tools can make creating art, movies, animation, music, and more easier, without sacrificing the cognitive and collaborative elements of these activities. #techtalkga
I definitely believe that collaboration and communication are skills that can be improved in maker space activities. I'm often more interested in the process and what is gained there than the product. #TECHtalkGA
A4: Last year we toured around to some other Media Centers in our RESA to get ideas. I also, love to look in the vendor hall at trade shows. Also, most importantly, find out what our kids are into and what problems they are trying to solve #techtalkga
A4: late to the party! I’m not qualified to answer this question but interested in what others say. I’m looking at how to make a maker space more than a fad or glorified arts and crafts. #TECHtalkGA
A3: I hope the maker space will be 1-a place to think about things differently 2-a place to make learning authentic 3-a place to solve problems in multiple &new ways 4-a place where Ss can be heard 5-a place where Ss can discover passions they might not otherwise find #TECHtalkGA
A4: I tend to look on Twitter and (especially) Pinterest. I also go to sites like Instructables, though a lot of my work is done retrofitting old, time-honored activities into newer technologies. #techtalkga
A5: The Apple 2e and Carman Sandiego followed closely by Algebra football #techtalkga. . . Just kidding. We are still building ours so interested to hear your answers!
A5: I have probably used the iPad Pros the most, for music making and stop motion animation. I also love the Little Bits and Cubelets, though they're pricey. Snap Circuits are cheaper and as good, imho. Surprisingly, I have never touched the 3D printers/scanner. #techtalkga
Great chat tonight, #TECHtalkGA! Thanks to everyone who participated! Fill out the form below to make sure you get tagged as a reminder next week!

#techtalkga We needed a question about how to get students to reflect on their #makerspace work -- What worked? What didn't? Why? Important aspects of this type of activity.
I'd like to know what older students actually like to do in maker spaces? I know I have to research more, but our S all have iPads so their creation skills are growing organically in the context of much of their classwork! #TECHtalkGA
Using #Metaverse to take students into WWI with an AR soldier, a YouTube video of a poetry reading, and a trench simulation. This is one of our stations tomorrow in our VR lab! Can’t wait to try it out!
