A1 For me, love is asking questions about someone’s experiences and really listening, sharing when they ask questions, being truly vulnerable with someone, and giving safety when they’re vulnerable.

A2: nothing better than being a dad to my two sons and husband to my wife, whom I met when we were 9th graders!!!! The joy is in the work! Be present, lend a hand, listen. Reliability goes a long way. Same as an educator. #whatisschool
A2) by giving my time fully: I think that’s why I could not get back to full time work for years after having children - just wanted to be with them, giving your time is like giving part of you that you never get back. It’s a form of unconditional love #whatisschool

Thinking about rigor with the #Equity team at Smoky Hill HS. Too often we frame instruction & assessments around the question "Were you listening?" But we should be framing instruction & assessments around the question "Are you thinking?"
Absolutely! Allowing Ss to see you as a real person builds trust and let’s them know you are willing to share with them. One of the best part’s of teaching! #whatisschool

A2 Knowing their love languages help - knowing how they best understand love and taking intentional time to do that is what I do, no matter how busy we can be. Also, by practicing responding vs reacting to any situation.

A4: I think I am the same person at work or at home. The more authentic we can be the better. We are all flawed and it’s okay to be vulnerable. Helps us grow even through the difficulties. #whatisschool
A4. For me its time. I'm a specialist T & have 250+ Ss. some I only see once a week. I try to get into the playground. I try to get to school functions/X-tra curric events or any opportunities where i can have more contact. Not always easy. #whatisschool

Absolutely! We had a middle school wide Makers Day Tuesday where Ss and Ts embraced making all types of things. It was a big success b/c the Ss loved collaborating w/ Ts in hands on activities #whatisschool

A4: When you feel a student may not be receptive to outward displays of care and concern. We have to be cognizant of the fact that some are more reserved and shy. #whatisschool ❤️Approach with caution. ❤️

A5 - Speaking as a parent. When I volunteer my time to take tamariki (children) on out of school experiences e.g. drove my tama pōtiki (youngest son) and 3 others to the RestHome to perform Christmas songs. Tamariki loved it as much as the audience #tereo#whatisschool
#WhatisSchool You really want to ask me that?! LOL See each child as an individual & modify our teaching to fit those individuals' needs. Encourage and support kids' natural creativity, curiosity, and empathy. Kids who see and value difference thrive. STOP trying to standardize!
A4 Tbh, when I fail to take good care of my physical needs - getting enough sleep, eating right and exercise regularly- I tend to be less patient, grumpy - so I’m always conscious of this. Plus maybe when we get too busy in some days.

#WhatisSchool Yes! With all the many and complex problems facing the world you'd think we'd be encouraging and nurturing every creative, outside the box thinker we can get. Parents, this is the gift your kids have to give. Don't let the system standardize and test it out of them.

From personal experience, when ppl don’t try to say my name correctly, I actually disengage & just sit there bored. I know! Not nice at all! #whatisschool

#WhatisSchool Don't be surprised if people are alarmed or annoyed. It used to bother me a lot until I realized that being seen and loved can be very painful and frightening when you are used to hiding behind a mask. Being seen is a great gift.
