Stacy Neal-Instructional Coach @ GCE and MWE #WeAreWayne "Success does not come from giving up, it comes from believing in yourself and continuously working towards the realization of a worthy ideal."
Let’s get started! @BoHill24 and I will be your moderators tonight. Please take a moment to introduce yourself (name, school, position) and share your favorite quote about resiliency or grit. Remember to use #WeAreWayne
Dan Wilson, Principal, Lynhurst Center, "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts." Winston Churchill #wearewayne
A1: it is the courage and strength that our scholars demonstrate daily in our school houses, sometimes the results don’t come quickly, but it’s worth the wait #WeAreWayne
A1: “Grit is passion and perseverance for very long-term goals. Grit is having stamina; Grit is sticking with your future day in, day out.” - Angela Lee Duckworth Our students need to value the process of overcoming challenges. #WeAreWayne
A1- I think grit is the ability to stick it out even when it is tough. I think it is important because many of our students face challenges every day and teaching grit will help them not only in school, but in life. #wearewayne
A1: Girt is the combination of stick-to-itiveness, talent, determination, and passion! Grit allows students to tackle a challenging task-at school or in life. #wearewayne
A1: Grit is the willingness to push through despite difficulties that arise because you have the internal drive to keep going until you reach your goal. #wearewayne
Michelle Stohler here 🙋🏻♀️ Grit raises the bar for all. It’s the difference between just enough and success. It’s hope and dreams coming true. #wearewayne
A2: To teach resilience and grit to our students we must first foster a safe learning environment. Students must know failing means trying. Failure is celebrated! Also, classrooms need to include growth mindset language and discussions #wearewayne
A2: We teach/model the power of perseverance. We encourage our students, peers, and ourselves to not see failure as a scarlet letter, but as opportunities to overcome obstacles. #WeAreWayne
A2: from my experience our Ss are already the most resilient people I know - we just create an environment where they feel safe & loved... they’ll rise to the occasion every time! #wearewayne
A2: Model it! Talk about your challenges as you move through the school day. When something doesn’t work, admit it, and talk your problem-solving strategies aloud #wearewayne
A2: Like everything else! Model, coach, have high but realistic expectations, and lead students through their own process of discovery. Figuring out you CAN push through the hard stuff is a great realization as a kid! Puts them on a path for success! #wearewayne
A2: (Jon Easter, WBDG GM, speaking for WBDG on this one)...Giving students multiple opportunities to succeed on their own even if it takes time after time after time. #WeAreWayne
A2 Teaching mindset ... helping them see their successes... start small. I think intrinsic motivation is important and helps ensure life long learning. #wearewayne
A2 Modeling, building an environment for students to feel safe and comfortable talking risks, developing a growth mind set and celebrating all levels of achievement. #wearewayne
A3: I like the idea of promoting the concept of “Failing Forward” by @JohnCMaxwell and highlighting mistakes that lead to successes and discoveries at the building level! #WeAreWayne
A3: Teaching students that it's about the process of learning, and that the right answer is important but it's also about the progress along the way. It makes the success at the end that much more exciting! #WeAreWayne
A3: Creating a culture of growth will build grit. My favorite Growth Mindset shift- “I don’t know (blank)....yet! If we create a space where students know and understand how to move from “I don’t know” to “YET” then we have a community of unstoppable students. #wearewayne
A3: relationships FIRST • relationships ALWAYS 💜💜
Attacking everyday with enthusiasm🎉🎉 unknown to mankind: making sure EVERY scholar is connected to at least one grown up.... and making sure every grown up is on a laser focused mission to #ServeScholars#WeAreWayne
💜☠️💜
A4: Positive praise and celebrate the struggle (and growth!) just as much if not more than the end result. Teach students to coach and praise their peers also! #wearewayne
A3: Empowering students to assess their own growth is a great way to encourage resilience. Students can then celebrate their growth and resolve to continue their learning journey. #wearewayne
A3 (cont'd): For example, our play-by-play broadcast students are rarely as good as they will be at the first game. By the time they do it 65 times, they get much better. They may never be Verne Lundquist, but they can be the best they can be. Grit is a big ingredient #WeAreWayne
A3: Prioritize these characteristics as important indicators of success. Celebrate the untold stories of students demonstrating resiliency, overcoming challenges, not accepting failure. #WeAreWayne
A4: If at the end of the a student’s schooling, they walk away with resilience and grit, we provided them the greatest gift a teacher can give. Students will have efficacy that they are capable of anything and that they are unstoppable. #wearewayne
A4: I would love for each student to see how resilience and grit will lead them to be a great...father/mother, spouse, friend, philanthropist, citizen, contributor! #WeAreWayne
A4: some of the richest and most successful people failed time and time again... embedding growth mindsets and resiliency within our scholars will hopefully prepare them for their future and persevering through life’s struggles! #WeAreWayne
A4: If at the end of the a student’s schooling, they walk away with resilience and grit, we provided them the greatest gift a teacher can give. Students will have efficacy that they are capable of anything and that they are unstoppable. #wearewayne
A4: Strength and resilience are often tied to an emotion, our brains are wired to remember this, having the ability to problem solve in a proactive way is a life long skill that we must model daily #WeAreWayne
A4: There are some things in life that you just can't give up on. The lessons students take from the "implicit curriculum" are so critical. That perseverance to a task even when it's tough is something that is a life lesson. Takes GRIT. #WeAreWayne
A4: Persistence is a life skill, not just a school skill. Our kids will face challenges we can’t begin to predict. Grit is something we can give them to help. #wearewayne
A4: Learning and having the ability to pick yourself up and try again (as many times as needed) is something that will help students as they move into post-secondary education, careers, and relationships. #necessaryforsuccess#wearewayne
