Why should we use digital portfolios in the classroom?

I'm Meagan Parrish from Clayton, North Carolina and I teach 4th grade.

A1: It allows Ss to take ownership of their own learning. There learning becomes relevant, personalized, and choice-driven.

A1- I think we should use digital portfolios because it allows students an opportunity to reflect on their progress and learning.

What is the best way to get started with digital portfolios?

A2: Reach out to your PLN. Ask ?'s. Start small. Give Ss opportunities to reflect. Add depth with time.

A2- Start simple. Have students graph their assessment data, then reflect.

A2: An all about me or status update, Ss change from year to year and so do their lives. A personal snapshot is a nice start.

A2 - We use Weebly in our classroom, but any platform will work depending on your purpose. Start small and slowly take risks!

We are a GAFE district, so have been using Google Sites as a digital portfolio.

What do your students like best about using digital portfolios?

A3: Collecting artifacts and reflecting on them with their responsibility partners. They are always proud of their growth.

A4- My students love seeing their work from the unit displayed. They love seeing their progress and growth.

What successes have you had with your students using digital portfolios?

A5: I think DP's are powerful bc they prepare Ss for the future. Real life applications: ie; online classes, job searches, etc.

A5: Students become more reflective, better readers, writers and listeners over time as they edit and share. I love the growth!

A5: Honestly, I've watched Ss begin to care about their work quality & want to revise and improve because the world was watching!

A5-- The best thing is Ss are able to see their successes but also can see opportunities for growth.

Authentic audience is huge! It's amazing to see them become articulate and critical learners.
