has to be book, Innovator's Mindset.
Yes, just started the second semesters to just over half way. https://t.co/yh55KwVJFG

What's the best book (professional or for fun) that you read so far this summer?
I'm heading in today to start preparing my classroom! A lot of new ideas for setup! What new ideas do you have?
Also working on new family orientation. Very important part of bringing new ones into the school community
A Guide to Competency-Based Education Modelhttp://ow.ly/ev2b302v4Qp
true! Do you match up seasoned and new families?
DIY Literacy is a must if you teach reading! Read it via and I can't wait to implement what I learned!
I bet it's the book has been recommending.
In process of reviewing convention proposals. What topics do you think T's most want to learn about in 2017?
I'm looking for ideas for my sabbatical, next year - preferably in the US - like a summer school at Uni level - any ideas?
methods to help make classrooms more student centered
We just completed 3 of 6 'New Student Tech Training' sessions. Limit of 50 Ss per session for personal assist
Is the focus for DIY Lit more primary grades? I've heard so many great things about it, but I'm MS
how did Bearing Witness conference go?
great idea!! I'm going to borrow that!
meet the teacher August 8...students August 17! We also have a conference at our school August 3! Busy time!
I love hands on, practical sessions!
Hottest thing at ISTE was coding and maker space.
Absolutely applies to ms. Focus is on tools to assist ss with reading strategies and give them ownership
I'll be at the conference. Are you presenting?
Tks. For some reason I thought it was just for littles.
emojis all over my room this year.
That would depend on your interests and whether you mean our summer of theirs?
I feel most schools are still 'doing' tech and not integrating tech. Ts need to know the difference
I'm looking at starting a Twitter chat for the schools in my diocese and an edcamp! I'm motivated!
Love to see those two topics ... practical ways teachers can implement these
Redesigning classroom spaces to make them more learner-friendly is a topic I'd suggest
Good morning from sunny Philadelphia.
awesome! has a diocese chat.
Feel free to reach out with Qs. We're in year 3 of 1:1 iPads and Ts are def growing.
Their (US) summer - our (AU) winter - anything on catholic education / all girls education.
I'm not...but I'm hoping there is time for open sharing!
Or maybe how to blend the more traditional focus still at many Cath Schs with current practice
let me know if you need any help with an edcamp. The edcamp foundation is a great place to start.
when the teaching changes, there is a need for spaces to change too
So cool! You must work in a great community to make that idea viable! What diocese if you don't mind me asking?
YES!! We need this. https://t.co/KuB4bR1Nmo
I'm looking at starting a Twitter chat for the schools in my diocese and an edcamp! I'm motivated!
Would like to discuss further. Did you hear my Voxer post for our group yesterday?
Mainly a battle because Ts need to change pedagogy in order to make tech work FOR us.
we will be in touch!! Looking to push my diocese forward with connecting teachers!
I recommend "book whisperer" for all grades. Life long learners!
I know a lot of parents want more classical schools, no tech. at all.
What Voxer group? - I need to do more of that.
I love edcamps! Let me know if can help promote your event!
diocese of Cleveland. We have a new superintendent so I'm hoping to get these ideas flowing soon!
We are going 1:1 Chromebooks this year in 6-8. Very excited.
totally missed my opportunity for some swag at our edcamp!
that book made me change my entire reading program for the better!
I heard at Love both their messages!
Good morning! Jumping in late today.
will do! I went to an Edcamp to learn how to put one on, but all help is appreciated!
Great topic! Having classroom design which is very conducive to learning -especially important in the digital age
funny how just one book gets teachers to change the teaching of reading
Reality is that there needs to be a healthy balance.
Classical schools?!? Prepare their children for parents' past & not the child's future? Killin me!
Seeing integration in action is one of the best ways to share. Makes the concept concrete
it would be great place & perfect opportunity to do it. Have you talked to Dolores about it?
I think it makes sense and it is so clearly thought out- not a fad
I've been to 3 and they've all been great! Would like one with catholic Ed focus!
I really like this a lot-I believe in blending effective "old ways" w/effective "new ways"
At other conference, have seen people tweet a place, time, and topic for convos
Thanks for the mention! mrsmhebert: AlanJLammers Beautiful view
Thanks for the mention! BarbInNebraska: AlanJLammers true! Do you match up seasoned and new families?
I also think many Ts need support to bring to admin when asked why they are changing things.
They want wholesome education not data-driven destructism. Writing skills are important in content.
brings weight to the argument
What about creating curriculum meshing tech with girls' Catholic ed? Perhaps a three-day Summer camp?
not yet, but I figure I'll see her August 3rd so it'll be a good time then.
students seem to do well in life. No computers allowed.
When I think tech integration, I don't think no writing, I think of writing avenues now open to Ss
I like the Big Board idea...but tweets force people to be connected!
Build data portfolios for the ability of the state and corporate mindset. This is what is happening.
board at Edcamp is great - Edcamp philosophy sticks and you find people and convos you need
Ss can definitely succeed in any environment, tech or no tech, but 21st Cent skills?
I've done both. In person is best, you can feel the energy in both the Ss and Ts.
Do you have process in place to embed it into school / curric? Was responsible for that in 2008
A lot of parents want more play, more classics, more an 80s feeling. Too, tech will change.
I feel sorry for the Ss who get thrown into college with no tech.
Other than Twitter, how do you stay connected with other T's in your field? What does your PLN consist of?
Lurking today...all my kids came in late last night to hang with me on my birthday today...they are just now waking up :)
YES! my predominantly poor Ss NEED tech in school to help close the gap.
virtual works too...much easier for Ts who are ready, also no sub needed😄
happy birthday! So nice of them to come in to celebrate!
Happy Birthday! Enjoy your day and your kids :)
Parents can teach at home. Or they have limited experience in h.s.. They will not be burnt out.
Totally agree with too much data at state level. But formative data in classroom is crucial for Ts.
I am finding these are primarily homeschooling Ps.
Not when there are not computers, as is the case for many of my Ss
and unfortunately that gap continues to grow. How do we get corporate $$ to help?
Voxer, some Facebook, local Edcamps, local "playdates" where educators gather to play with tech and class ideas
I apply to various summer seminars. Amazing way to connect and always leave inspired.
Happy Birthday how wonderful to have your children celebrate with you.
Interesting, needs to be married to redesigning PL to support effective use of learning spaces
What the state thinks the "gap" is - that is driven by data. Corp. Interest!
This is a topic I'm just dipping my toe in- interested to hear ideas.
Good morning! Lost track of time so I'm jumping in late.
Ditch That Textbook, all books & just finishing The Talk Funny Girl: a Novel
Where's your alumni? Homeschoolers have closed the reading gap.
same as Marcie shared. Love meeting my PLN in person. Loved meeting everyone at conf
Some are homeschooling Ps. Why? They want to own their children.
I'm talking my reality. Most of my Ss have no consistent access to working tech.
I've been visiting colleges w/my son&was really surprised at great learning spaces I've seen
saw some stuff online so some local friends do them periodically at a coffee shop Great chance to share learning
excellent point- a great space won't matter much if not used effectively
money is no object for these colleges and they see the value of it.
Agreed! New buildings, new designs - we need that at HS level.
That must have been a great way to envision learning in his higher ed years!
YES!!! Great spaces with traditional teaching wastes the opportunity.
DM me - I think I might be able to help you on this.
How do you acquire money to help pay for changes in the classroom
Sorry for the late join Hope everyone is well
toured HS in Louisiana that is totally redesigned loved it
re: parents. They don't always know best classroom practices. Pre- parents want wrkshts
Just like tech is a waste of money if Ts don't move from traditional approach. https://t.co/CCD0iT9e6z
YES!!! Great spaces with traditional teaching wastes the opportunity.
I think thats the reason that traditional spelling will always exist- Ps know it and can do it
Tech is used as "data-collection" in poor areas - wards of the state.
Flexible seating is big! Looking at new ways to incorporate it into my room! Cheap and efficient!
so important to support and scaffold Ts with using tech in classroom just like we do with students in content area
Is anyone using Voxer? I have heard of it and haven't tried it yet. What do you think of it? Main benefits?
The circle goes round today they cannot write because of technology 2016.
Yes-I was wishing I could go back to college too- my son quickly reminded me that I wasn't :)
Parents/Family = God's way. Or government = Satan's way.
what? you haven't joined yet? We have a group. Make a free account and DM me your user name.
If you see a design you love, be sure to share it with the hashtag
We mentor new Ts. Why not mentor Ts who are new to tech? Why are we still talking to large group? Personalize PD
Just jumped in from California. A tad late.
is also great for family. Everyone gets the same message.
Has anyone see Academy of Holy Names in Tampa, PK-12, 21st c and redesigned entire campus Ts worked 2 yr b4 to chg mindset
This is so important. If I need to sit in one more- Here's how to open your email" I might scream.
morning! Open chat today.
How Ts use tech and if it makes a difference a leader needs data? Impact on learning? Need data. will help
reminds me of the great cursive debate in my school
. Got to wake these girls up to help our human family! Serve
Yes! Personalize the learning for what teachers need
Data is good. But who else owns the data. Read up on it.
I have it...don't use it, yet! Tone of voice says a lot, so people prefer to hear how it's said. Can be effective.
Ts & Admin need to understand why there are 300+ Ts at EdCamp on a Sat morning. VOLUNTARILY!! 1/2
yes and with you can go over 140 characters!
Much better when I help someone on a one to one.
Exercise balls and cushions are great ways to start cheap
Terrible to hear Admin say "Our Ts won't go because it's on a Saturday" Let Ts decide for themselves.
Yes! It is because they get to own their learning and have voice and choice
I know people rave about Voxer but I'm not a fan.
perfect that's the kind of course I after 2-3 week intensive at a catholic institution. Thanks.
we are so lucky to have so many ways to connect!
Our school has a Tech Walk every May.
The state of Louisiana passed a law to mandate cursive at 3rd grade!
going in today to put a reading bench together! This is a new addition! Also want the exercise balls and such!
Its not about the 'pencil' but i need access to it if i want to learn to write. Focus on writing not pencil. Same with tech
When we can partner Ts it takes it off Tech's plate. Allows all Ts to move forward
I use it. It's another social media via talking or typing. In a book chat at moment and a couple other groups.
Tech is effective when used to support pedagogy, not replace it. There is research around this
so what's Voxer? Behind the times.
container store had cute storage bins that you sit on for fairly reasonable price
This is a great mentality to share.
be sure to take pictures and share!
I agree if Ts don't chg pedagogy then Ss do same work w/ a twist but not lrng 21st c skills Ts must change HOW they teach
voice, text and pictures. You can listen on your own time.
it's a messaging system/app where you can set up groups and chat.
good idea! I hadn't thought about using it in that way :)
will do! We all need to share our successes!
Has anyone built a Tiny Library with their kids? Where did you put it? Did you need permission from town?
we know our students learn best with differentiation. we deserve the same learner-focused approach
our town put them out ... one is at a councilperson's home
Very late joining today. No internet access. Catching up with posts.
We have mini- conf on GAFE with Ts at beginning of yr. Still have veterans that need it.
I find it overwhelming. Can't skip messages or listen to just the ones you want. Have to listen to all, in order.
I know 2 families have it at the end of their driveway.
I haven't done this, but there are several in my small town.
Check out Acad Holy Names Tpa 2:1, iPad & MacBkPro no text is new collab design to campus new teaching approach by Ts
Erin. If you pause one currently playing, you can then skip to ones you want
it's just "one more thing to keep track of" and for me it's too time consuming and not user friendly
That post from was mine. Glad to join for a short time.
As an Admin I "highly encourage" my Ts to go...out of 18 Only 1 goes :(
Agreed! PL ideally should be school based &available as &when needed.Means employing T coach
wouldn't say I'm not a fan, just not my first choice.
morning! Didn't 'recognize' you!
Still looking for HS religion teachers to share HyperDoc ideas. I'm teaching Hebrew Scripture and Peace and Justice classes
great idea! Would be a great class project or 8th grade gift!
next week, is moderating on HyperDocs
And moving Ts to mentality where they drive their own learning - online, books, etc...
I'm feeling that my classroom won't have the same seating arrangement that often! Want to keep it active!
Unless T's are getting credit for attending they don't go on Saturday.
did you know you see birthday balloons if you go to your page?
on ? Terrific. I'm setting the alarm.
true! I'll suggest it to our teachers!
Getting teachers to that mentality is so huge ... hard but worthwhile
As long as Admin models it, they need to change that word 'encourage' to 'require'.
yes! She's really excited to share HyperDocs!
Public school teachers will not go in on Sat. either.
For some the word "required" makes them bristle and results in a closed mind
And Ss only put effort in when they get points or grade. Doing School vs Learning
Traditional teaching can be good. It's craved in some areas. :-)
Yes ... changing mindset for all is so important
Yup. I get that. But Admin won't let me kidnap Ts to expose them to these conferences.
Correct! We can provide PL/PD Ts need to identify what their PLneeds are-take responsibility
Good to see you, Barb. I forgot to switch accts. hadn't kicked in yet.
YES! We talk about how important S choice is in learning- shouldnt it apply to us
LOL! Please don't get in trouble :)
Wish we would not give grades but that is what drives the system.
The thing is, I am so energized my edcamps, how can I not go? I'm on Edcamp # 18!
And we can balance traditional teaching with integration of tech. This is not a 1 or the other decision
YES ... it should, but so many are not there in philosophy
Yeah- this is a tough one.
But, if my children were little, I might think differently about attending every edcamp in my area. Might attend half! ;-)
That was our focus at Penn State Title I conference this yr. Growth Mindset.
Thanks for sharing article - lots to think about in terms of effective learning spaces
Correct on both counts. PLCs/Communities of Professional Practice useful for this
That's fantastic! The more they see your excitement, the more Ts are willing to check it out.
Well, I model it many times. If we change to "require" aren't we defeat "voluntary" piece?
I agree and Ts are starting to understand the importance of EdCamps we can't give up the good fight
The topic of classics in Catholic Ed would be an interesting topic some time.
Honestly I would not want to be in Edcamp sessions with people mad bc required to be there
I think its hard for many Ts to be convinced it won't be another awful PD session
Can we change to "Required to try something new"?
Trying to wean my Ss off of grades as motivation. Tricky. But I talk with them about internal v external motivation often.
Wow! That was a fast hour. Thanks for joining in today!
It's helpful 2have tchr leaders engage other tchrs so it's not from admin
Great chat this morning! Thank you for the ideas and support! I know I made awesome connections today!
Of course and the principles of good Andragogy & Heutagogy suggest that also.
Yes Edcamp spoiled me. I use Rule of Feet at conferences bc useful to me learning important
