Hello everyone. Roman from Ontario, Canada. HS Teacher/Student Success Leader/Agent of Transformation. Checking in with #waledchat My Twitter brain is getting tired, but how could I not answer the call of so many PLN friends! :)
#waledchat My name is Julie. I am from Placentia California. I work at a non-profit with adults with special needs. I also sub as a special ed. aide in the Fullerton School District. I am working on my credential /master’s for mod/severe special education.
A1: Biggest win this week is engaging my students in a twitter chat with surrounding districts and even Canada in a twitter chat discussing a shared reading for #WorldReadAloudDay#waledchat
A1: Probably my biggest win this week is how much students are rocking two step equations! Another win was some other kids recognized that hard work pays off and did really well on their quiz #waledchat
A1: I had two great wins this week. 1st was helping @VSTE advocate for technology in teaching in Richmond VA. 2nd was helping 2 teachers (so far) submit conference proposals to co-present!
#waledchat
A1: Biggest win this week is engaging my students in a twitter chat with surrounding districts and even Canada where they discussed a shared reading for #WorldReadAloudDay#waledchat
A1: The fact that I am still alive. That my family still loves me. I have people that still believe in me. There is a roof over my head, clothes on my back, and food on my plate. In spite of trouble, we are still winning. #waledchat
A1: Biggest win from the week was having two full classes of Ss begging to keep practicing Lewis Dot Structure bonding....I mean, what?! It was awesome. I pushed them far beyond what is technically "at their level," and they crushed it. #waledchat
Sam Wallace, 2nd year high school Social Studies teacher from WI! Excited to be here! Would love to see @BrookeEisenbach and some of her Ss in a chat in the future! #waledchat
Today... kid took a quiz, made a 0!! I told him that it takes skill to get a zero. Gave him a new copy, asked him to retake it. Kid got a 22/24. He asked if he could take it home to show his mom! ABSOLUTELY! Also sent a positive postcard home about him. #kidsdeserveit
Hosted my first ‘council’ meeting for volunteers from each of my classes - for them to make decisions about our room, procedures, etc. kids were bursting with great ideas and they are so motivated to make their experience even better. It made my heart sing #waledchat
A1: My biggest win this week was a phone call from a parent. She thanked me for all of my work and was appreciative for supporting her kid throughout the year! #waledchat
A1: My win this week is that a student who has seemed down confided in me. He finally asked to chat in the hallway; he opened up about whats bothering him. It hurts to know he’s hurting but I’m so thrilled that he felt comfortable enough to talk to me - now I can help! #waledchat
A1 Ss dramatically singing karaoke in Spanish is a big win! Also overeheard students talking about their crushes all in Spanish #proudteacher#waledchat
A1: I had two great wins this week. 1st was helping @VSTE advocate for technology in teaching in Richmond VA. 2nd was helping 2 teachers (so far) submit conference proposals to co-present!

A1 Great question!
Having hands on learning for math and science. Students starting non fiction books and really writing (kinder)
And two students finally knowing most their letter sounds. #waledchat

A1: Biggest win this week was the excitement on my students' faces when they saw the poetry books had arrived from our @donorschoose project #TeachLivingPoets#waledchat
A1 I started incorporating many of my assessments into Google Forms which has been an awesome way to allow me to modify my assessments for my Ss & incorporate more tech! #waledchat
A1 Intro'd 7th grade Ss to being better news consumers over past week. Ss told me that they explored About pages of news sites & recognized bias. I also made a joke w a S & she responded back with, "Wow, have much of a bias?" She didn't know what a bias was last week! #waledchat
A1 My biggest win was today with 2 virtual collaborations for #WorldReadAloudDay These global connections have changed my mindset/learning. So many great opportunities. It's all about kindness & making a difference. The kids amaze me. Thanks @bmilla84@_FletcherNelson#waledchat
A1.2 Are two wins allowed?! One day during lunch, students saw me sitting by myself and came over to talk because “I looked lonely.” Made me smile! #waledchat
A1: Biggest win is sketchnoting was a hit. Students embraced it and knocked it out the part. Look at what one of my Ss did. It is beyond amazing. #waledchat
A1: Two moments tie it for me. Had a ELL level 1 Ss raise her hand and answer a question today in a sheltered instruction class! And Monday a veteran colleague I don't know well asked me to keep sharing my ideas on SEL because they're helping hee #waledchat
A1b And seeing my kiddos all really get along and love each other, use kind words and encourage each other. About to go on maternity leave and I am at peace with it due to this.
#waledchat
Q2: Celebrating the wins is essential! How did you celebrate your victory? Did you share it with someone, go get some ice cream, or celebrate another way? #waledchat
Hi, #waledchat - I’m Kimberly from Nebraska. I teach 7th grade ELA. I’ll can only stay for a few minutes, but so impressed that @MrPStrunk started his own chat! 🙌
Colleen ~ AP from Long Island, NY! A1 ~ A team meeting we conducted for a 9th grader with attendance issues. He entered the meeting apprehensive, but left a little more confident! Now to see if the outreach to him & his family result in success! #waledchat
A1.2 Are two wins allowed?! One day during lunch, students saw me sitting by myself and came over to talk because “I looked lonely.” Made me smile! #waledchat
Q2: Celebrating the wins is essential! How did you celebrate your victory? Did you share it with someone, go get some ice cream, or celebrate another way? #waledchat
A2: I honestly haven't celebrated yet... Does having a great feeling count? Just love helping others. #MyWhy
Looking forward to dinner out with my amazing wife Friday night, maybe I'll even get dessert!
#waledchat
A2: I have tweeting about it, talking to my colleagues about it, and probably bugging my wife with how much I talk about it. I am just so impressed at how good their products look! Set high expectations and students will rise to the occassion! #waledchat
A2: I celebrated my win in the best way possible - by sharing it with my fellow teachers! I couldn’t wait to tell them about my breakthrough and they were so receptive and encouraging. That’s what makes the education community so amazing! #waledchat
Q2: Celebrating the wins is essential! How did you celebrate your victory? Did you share it with someone, go get some ice cream, or celebrate another way? #waledchat
A2: The victory was celebrated in my Ss faces - they LOVED what we were doing. One S even asked me if I could thank the moderator (yes, she used the term moderator) for hosting the chat which allowed us to collaborate with students around the world. #waledchat#kidsdeserveit
Q2: Celebrating the wins is essential! How did you celebrate your victory? Did you share it with someone, go get some ice cream, or celebrate another way? #waledchat
Absolutely it counts! Getting students excited about reading changes lives. I still thank Ms. Laverty, my 6th grade reading teacher for exciting my love of reading! #waledchat
A2: I celebrated my victory by announcing to the students that we can try to implement story time at least once a month. I also always end my victories with a night of Netflix with my favorite snack! #waledchat
A2 Spending time w/ staff offsite is always a ton of fun to connect and relax while celebrating our in class success! We need to build relationships too! #waledchat
A2 I didn't get ice cream, but I should have! I think Ss knew I was pleased w their strides in the absolute giddiness in my voice as I applauded them for their comments. #waledchat
#waledchat My biggest win from this week. I have a student that is not very verbal. She will answer in a very light whisper. Today during math, I was having her add and use my fingers to count out the addition problem. She clearly said the numbers out loud.
Q2: Celebrating the wins is essential! How did you celebrate your victory? Did you share it with someone, go get some ice cream, or celebrate another way? #waledchat
A2: I celebrated by sharing what the mom told me with my coworkers to help remind them how important our work is. We may not here is all the time, but we are appreciated! .. I also may have eaten chocolate pumpkin bread for dessert! :) #waledchat
A2 I always celebrate with a coffee, my go to drink. Most of all, after all the fun and sharing on SM, I have now planned another big collaboration. Can't wait to work on this one now. My PLN/tribe is just too amazing. @bmilla84@TaraMartinEDU#waledchat
Q2: Celebrating the wins is essential! How did you celebrate your victory? Did you share it with someone, go get some ice cream, or celebrate another way? #waledchat
A1. This week as been a full one, but I would have to say a big win for me is to simply have created a lesson that I am excited to teach on Sunday! #waledchat#troll209
Q2: Celebrating the wins is essential! How did you celebrate your victory? Did you share it with someone, go get some ice cream, or celebrate another way? #waledchat
#waledchat A2 Sat down all day during my 1st day back from the flu. Celebrated the day by getting a steak dinner after work! #FOOD!!!! Getting my strength back.
A1: I was super excited to get the opportunity to share my #TLAP room transformations, #XPLAP gamification in our Teen Lit Olympics, EDtech tools, and some @TaraMartinEDU#BookSnaps awesomeness with other educators today! #waledchat
Hi! Mike from ISU again. For those who do not know pre-service in science and S.S as my two endorsements.
Q2: I feel like I would talk to someone, no matter what the victory, just because I like sharing and talking. #waledchat
A2 I celebrate my victories now by jumping on Twitter to share it. I told some people at school but they seemed uninterested. I am excited to do it again tomorrow! #waledchat
A3: I know there were times this week that students in my class were not engaged. There was an activity that didn't go well, outside drama filtering into the classroom and missing an opportunity to challenge some kids. #waledchat
A3: I took something that happened to me at work more personally than I needed to instead of dealing with it more professionally. Not super happy with myself for that lapse in judgment. #waledchat
A2: I celebrated my sending “gotcha” cards home with students. It was a way for students and parents to celebrate accomplishments together. Also just telling my students how proud I am of their growth #waledchat
Q2: Celebrating the wins is essential! How did you celebrate your victory? Did you share it with someone, go get some ice cream, or celebrate another way? #waledchat
A2 I have been learning that encouraging yourself is all it takes, noticing and saying well done. I also always share with my husband @micronmike
who is always a
champion for us
#waledchat
Q2: Celebrating the wins is essential! How did you celebrate your victory? Did you share it with someone, go get some ice cream, or celebrate another way? #waledchat
A3: A loss this week was definitely more on the behavior side. We've had lots of changes to our classroom lately including merging two classes together to co-teach, flexible seating, & increased technology all of which = new routines and expectations. #waledchat#failforward
A3: Found out that I might be doing something drastically different, not by choice, in the not to distant future. Trying to keep an optimistic attitude. Hoping for the best, but expecting the worst. #waledchat
A3: Having to see kids in and out of the building due to the flu. And when they come back, watching them feel defeated that they are so far behind on content. Breaks my heart to see them struggle, physically and academically. #waledchat
A3-Two of our Ss reported being seriously bullied by Ss from the other team. We're trying to get to the bottom of it as quickly as possible. It breaks my heart. #waledchat
A3: S who started this semester with new goals. Totally turned over new leaf. Working so hard. Yesterday he failed his pronoun summative - he got a 69% 🙁😢. We are working on his relearn and retake, but that palpable disappointment was 💔 #waledchat
A3 Diff. class, same assignment. I was so excited to do my first peer review session for our current event assigment. I told class to bring their work tmrw, then half the class asked what will happen if they have nothing written for the session tmrw. :P #waledchat
A1: Biggest win for the week was having 12 first graders present their grandparent expert projects - and sharing (almost) all of their movie links with their families thus far! #waledchat
I've had so, so many kids out with the flu - really terrible flu season. And one of my junior girls was injured with a concussion in a soccer game - very worried about her #waledchat
A3: I didn't speak up for a Ss when I know I could have. Sometimes it's scary standing up to a friend or colleague, but I have to do what's best for the Ss. #waledchat
A3 A loss is when I don't accomplish everything I set out to do. I am still battling to finish my latest blog post. Hoping to finish it tonight. Sometimes, my Twitter chat obsessions get me sidelined from some things I want to finish. But all in balance. #waledchat
A3: My loss this week was definitely when I let my frustrations boil over a little. I wasn’t as patient as I needed to be, and let it effect some of my interactions. #waledchat
A3 A loss is when I don't accomplish everything I set out to do. I am still battling to finish my latest blog post. Hoping to finish it tonight. Sometimes, my Twitter chat obsessions get me sidelined from some things I want to finish. But all in balance. #waledchat
A3: I worked really hard with a S for hours after school to help with a task he was struggling with. I was proud that I went out of my way to help a S who needed me. Turns out he didn’t finish the assignment despite my best efforts. Determined to turn this into a win! #waledchat
A3 Having many around me sick with flu and having to be extremely proactive with my class on health especially since Kate is arriving soon. Hard to do air high fives when I am not like that....but SHE comes first
#waledchat
A4: going to use some math challenges to push and engage early finishers. I have also modified the activity for next year so it is more engaging. #waledchat
A4: Next time, I am going to take a deep breath, remember it is not the end of the world, and will make sure I have a really solid back up plan so I don't need to scramble. #waledchat
A4: When things don't go right we all have choices- accept it or reflect and try a different way. Reflective professionals always view a bump in the road as an opportunity for growth! #waledchat@MrPStrunk@MHSLewisHistory@misskoplin
It's hard to know how to deal with kids being out with the flu - they're already stressed out in AP classes, and the absence just adds to their stress #waledchat
A3- our district suffered some big losses, one teacher's son passed away and a secretary had her home burn down. Tough week for us! It made the curriculum look so unimportant #waledchat
A4: Allow the students to help re-teach each other. It's already working like a charm for both the "student" and "teacher" - I check in after to make sure nothing was missed. #waledchat
#waledchat A2 My favorite way to celebrate with my Ss is to get a #Believe selfie with them. I try to post the pictures in my room on the #Believe wall. In May I cut out the pictures, sign the back, and give them to the Ss.
A4: I’m going to reinforce that I’m not going to give up on this student. I’m disappointed by this incident, but that’s not going to stop me from trying to help him TWICE as much next time! Persistence is key; If I believe in him, he will start to do the same! #waledchat
A4 Every time there is something not-so-nice in life...I go into life with more intention. In my case- I will appreciate every moment that I get to be a teacher. #waledchat
A4: Reminding Ss that learning is still a priority in our classroom. And reminding myself to have patience as this learning environment is still so new to them, on top of the fact that they are only kids. #waledchat
A3: My loss has to be that very first grandparent expert project movie; parents are still trying to access at home! Thank God it's on my desktop. But, tech issues are def my biggest trials. Lrng from this Twitter world will hopefully change much of this! #waledchat
A4 In my case, not class related. But I will shift my priorities to make things happen. I admit, when students are the ones benefiting from something, I will drop all other menial tasks. However, if I want to model properly, I need to show my struggle/show strategies. #waledchat
Q2: I use celebration to build up the conficpdence of my students. I have had student work displays on my side of the hall and my neighbor's. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽#CelebrateGoodTimesCmon#waledchat
A4: Make sure every day the children in my room know they deserve the world! I make it a point every day to tell them I love them. I'll do whatever it takes to make sure they can learn and be proud #waledchat
A4: Reflection and iteration! #GrowthMindset and a commitment to #FailForward. There is always a point to learn from and grow towards. A "loss" is just the beginning of a spark that can lead to greatness.
#waledchat
A3. New to this, but for Junior block asked to co-teach, with CT. Could have improved my post-questions better from teachers lesson. Asked question and got a lot of blank stares from students, or the same person responding. Need to work on. #waledchat
A4 I will continue to work on my 40 days of no complaining which started today with a co worker. We will push each other to be our best. So glad to have this teammate
#waledchat
A4: I will take a deep breath, and keep moving forward. And the next time I begin to feel the same way, I’ll take a step back and remember negativity doesn’t solve anything. #waledchat
A5: Recharging this weekend through some binge TV watching with my wife, gym time, and a possible hike (or movie trip) depending on weather. Low to no connectivity during all of these as well.
#waledchat
A5: Weekends are great for professional reading and writing! I'm Reading a great book- Carol Dweck's Mindset: The New Psychology of Success (Ballantine Books) #waledchat@MrPStrunk@LRobbTeacher@DrMaryHoward
A5: I will probably try to play some games with my brother, I have a book I am reading right now, and my wife and I will sit down and watch the rest of season 2 of Quantico on Netflix! #waledchat
A5: Prioritizing grad school, lesson plans, kiddo's soccer games, and house work so that I am using my time effectively rather than becoming stressed out and irritated. #waledchat
A4 Same Ss is going to get some one on one time before the quiz to make sure he is ready. If he isn't going to do the work at home, he will do it in class. Zeros are not an option in my class. #waledchat
A5: I’m going to pursue my passions outside of the classroom. Going to a concert, attending a hockey game, and watching the Super Bowl with friends. Time to decompress so I can come back recharged and ready to give it my all next week! #waledchat
A4- I try to start fresh each day with a positive attitude that today is going to be better. I also try to turn myself and students' attitudes around whwn they are negative #waledchat
A5 Step 1- Get over the flu. Step 2- shovel the foot of snow coming. Step 3- Appreciate that I am a teacher and have a wonderful Twitter PLN. #waledchat
A5: Going to Drama practice is a great way to "hit pause" on life. Looking forward to catching a couple hockey games this weekend with our kids. #waledchat
Wow! Things like that really push everyone to think from a different perspective, don't they? I'm so sorry to hear all the tough things your whole community is facing! #waledchat
A5 I will spend time being present with my family and keeping the phone/tech to a bare minimum. My One word Be Present is making a huge difference.
#waledchat#familyfirst
A5B: Also planning to celebrate my half birthday on Saturday, because 29 and a half is probably the last birthday I'll be happy about. An XL coffee is in my future. #waledchat
A5: Creating some new opportunities for student voice will keep me energized and @MrKaplansKlass promised me Mac n Cheese bites that I'm hoping will help me recharge. A friends company too might help 😉 #waledchat
A5 I always take time for myself on the weekends! #BookcampPD to start my Sat and then I go for a walk and to Target and TJ Maxx It sounds small, but its the little things! #waledchat
Thank you @MrPStrunk for hosting #waledchat so educators can reflect on wins and losses for the week. I'm so glad you jumped on and joined @MsJenkins_3rd (: Goodnight!
A5- spend time with my family doing whatever my kids want. Often they get shorted because of the loft of our profession, so I try to make the weekends all about them #waledchat
A5 We just got a new puppy, so I'll be snuggling w/ him. We'll also be watching the Super Bowl, so I'm looking fwd to some pizza w/ my husband's fam (don't care for the teams, but I love the Twin Cities!) #waledchat
A5 Now this is an easy one. I have organized a date night with my beautiful wife. Time to relax, unplug and recharge. That time is very much needed. After a busy & productive week, it is okay to know that we deserve a break. We need to be kind to ourselves as well. #waledchat
Sorry I’m late!! A3: Had a rough situation with a S at the beginning of the week. Made it hard to start the week of that way. A4: turning that into a win by understanding that there will always be ups and downs. Gotta focus on what builds up! #waledchat
We have our Academic Decathlon competition this weekend, so Saturday is spoken for, but I'm really looking forward to riding my bicycle this Sunday. It's going to be gorgeous weather!! #waledchat
A4- I try to start fresh each day with a positive attitude that today is going to be better. I also try to turn myself and students' attitudes around whwn they are negative #waledchat
A4: One thing I've learned: Keep asking questions. Talk to people and find their expertise, gifts, interests and talents. Offer yourself up similarly. I'm surrounded by brilliant colleagues who all work together; so, thankfully, I have many to coach me! #waledchat
A5: I’ll be sure to take time to relax, catch up on my favorite shows, and hit the gym. Self-care is essential to making sure you’re the best you that you can be! #waledchat
#waledchat A5 I recharge each weekend by cleaning house, doing laundry, and writing. I will be signing a contract on my 1st book this spring. Hopefully looking at a Fall publish date. Getting my life calling of #AlwaysBelieve to a global audience. #DreamComeTrue
