ah brilliant! We are in schools across Lincolnshire. Welcome to Dojo Chat!
-
Everything is choice. People choose how often to exercise and how much or what to eat
-
A1: I think there probably are but its is due to a whole raft of issues...only so much we can do in school though unfortunately
-
A1: I think we don't exercise as much as we should and don't get kids moving enough
-
Inspiring for staff and pupils alike too I'm sure!
-
-
Ideas for the next office meeting! https://t.co/sPYx5wOm78

-
-
-
A1: technology among other things may have an impact on this.. Ss and others don't get outside as much anymore!
-
Q1 The easy nature of fast food, less time and more stressful jobs etc all seems to lead to greater obesity
-
what about those who have specific physical conditions that hinder their metabolism?
-
-
any ideas to get us moving in school?
-
Hello,I'm Lara from Turkey,Florya College
-
thoughts as to the reliability of research or what to do about it?
-
One issue I see when getting lunch is the cost of truly healthy food vs. unhealthy food.
-
-
both! Just your general thoughts
-
-
I think it would be great to have students do jumping jacks or some other exercise during 5 minute study breaks
-
-
-
Conditions can't be helped but are they fully to blame?
-
is difficult, my school offers lots of sport, but pupils are reluctant to take it, most are off to tutors
-
A:1 educating students and families on healthier food options and proper fitness concepts
-
A1- It's often a battle between the digital age we now live in and the adventures of the great outdoors
-
-
could be a cheeky research project for you Paul!
-
Question 2 coming up shortly from me
-
I think the issue becomes more about how to get the kids wanting to exercise & eat healthily
-
A1: how do you prevent children from choosing McDonalds as their favourite eatery?
-
-
-
Kids that get into sports usually have a lot of fun, but it's hard to get them to start anymore
-
Reminder: will ask Questions 1, 3, 5, 7 and I will ask Questions 2, 4, 6, 8
-
A2: I am from the U.S., but I agree with this. Recess time is usually cut because lunch periods are getting shorter
-
Some have 3 breaks a day &some have 2! Big fan of the afternoon break. Much more productive last hour. https://t.co/pJiZzi8MTw
-
EYFS usually get choosing time or an afternoon break of 15 minutes as well
-
Q2 We have just made our break times longer. However, getting the kids to run around and play does take alot of persuasion
-
How does this help with pupil engagement and behaviour?
-
A2 - Fresh air and the chance to get out of the classroom often does wonders, especially for those with behavioural issues
-
A2: big fan of break times! Stimulates children for work and keeps them for and healthy at the same time
-
Healthy body Healthy Mind?
-
A2 - Keeping kids in class longer and outside less means more control --- perhaps schools have a fear of too much freedom?
-
Do you find this is enough at present? Would you prefer afternoon break like
-
Not spending from 1:00-3:30 sat in class. Breaks up the afternoon into two segments, as in the morning https://t.co/n80sOLbW4k
-
-
How does this help with pupil engagement and behaviour?
-
I like the idea of flexible break times. Can you tell me more?
-
What about the sort of activities used as a stimulus? is a great way to get pupils active
-
Educate the parents. A website showing how much exercise it takes to burn off a Big Mac is useful also
-
basically the teacher decides when children go out to break so can be at any time in the morning when needed
-
40 mins at lunch works well, plenty of time for activities and not long enough for students to get bored
-
A2- Breaks helps pupils express themselves, gives them time to rekindle some deserved "Me Time" and be with others, being social
-
What a good idea this is! https://t.co/TabTycV4tz
-
-
basically the teacher decides when children go out to break so can be at any time in the morning when needed
-
A2: we may have flexible break times. They sometimes interrupt the lessons.
-
Enough. We usually have outdoor P.E in the afternoon as well now the weather is improving
-
my record was 9:15...I think I needed it more than they did :-)
-
-
-
-
This weather (should it continue) is the perfect excuse to be outdoors more! https://t.co/RUrfyNfCry
-
-
Enough. We usually have outdoor P.E in the afternoon as well now the weather is improving
-
Which would you prefer: Flexible breaks or 2/3 structured breaks?
-
-
I try to take groups outside. Secondary deserve time outside too. Though it did chuck it down Fri!
-
Love !! Great way to get kids up and moving!
-
It is a brilliant resource, especially for Wet Play
-
what about PE outdoors in the not so good weather? Toughen the children up!
-
A3 - Usually given enough time or even extra time. With the exception of SATs week
-
-
Agreed! Often a good learning experience when weather isn't too severe!
-
A3: for me it is getting better thanks to Sports Premium,Kitemark and other initiatives but still not enough
-
A3: I think it's pushed aside. Ss spend so much time sitting down while they learn. Maybe incorporate exercise into a lesson?
-
A3: I would like to see PE topics blended with other subjects (science,ELA) Extend the education beyond PE
-
-
Times have changed. We ran cross country in the rain/mud. Can't do that anymore
-
-
A3: I find it is getting more focus especially through initiatives making learning fun
-
but is it right that you can no longer do that?
-
-
I did a lesson combining guided reading and PE yesterday...kept learning fresh!
-
Question 4 is on its way!
-
A3:Learning can be done on the move. Inventions like "Fidget Desks" are game changers to keep kids active while learning...
-
Q3 We have a strong leader who pushes for PE. She organises matches, takes PE for the unsure and organises great CPD.
-
A3 - no reason PE can't be tied in with other subjects - v easy to do this with some imagination.
-
A3: It is pushed one side for teaching English and Teog Exams in Turkey.
-
Perhaps. Perhaps not. I'm sure most parents wouldn't approve
-
Nice! It helps the kids see how topics relate to each other
-
Something Health Mentors do very well in the schools in which they work at! https://t.co/N31oddsNRg
-
-
A3 - no reason PE can't be tied in with other subjects - v easy to do this with some imagination.
-
interesting! I know a lot of parents that would think it would do the kids good
-
where its primary school you get used to it mate, just need to be mega organised :-)
-
-
the PE topic was sprinting, so we took extracts of Usain Bolt's book to get into his mindset in a race
-
Love this idea! https://t.co/7h0OW8VYE5
-
-
A3:Learning can be done on the move. Inventions like "Fidget Desks" are game changers to keep kids active while learning...
-
A4: teacher challenges! Our staff running club changed a lot of teachers' attitudes!
-
A4: Many ss do not want to exercise because they would rather play technology. Tell them that too much tech is bad for the brain
-
A4: Most enjoy it, good to encourage at home through homework too and get pics sent through https://t.co/MTSL9vwINp
-
-
-
A4: I'm setting up a staff sports club Lots of keen staff wanting to get involved!!! Loads of fun ideas too!
-
-
A well established house system with plenty of competitions followed up by loads of teacher encouragement to take part
-
Some very positive and see the benefits of exercise/competition - some see it as a nuisance https://t.co/H9JSPP3cjQ
-
-
Welcome Graham. Thank you for joining us in a topic key to mission and work
-
-
-
A4- I am trialing a few ideas for a whole year group challenge to see pupil reactions and adapt plans to engage ALL
-
Gamify PE? Students or classes earn points for exercising and completing challenges
-
A4 - Praise for learners when they do show a good attitude. Introduce technology into the lesson. ipads? Coach's eye?
-
A4:Most of my Ss hunger for directive to move. Giving them "permission" is usually well received.😄 https://t.co/GGdI4jvXSA
-
Sounds like a great idea! How would you introduce this? https://t.co/R4ax17rcJ8
-
-
Gamify PE? Students or classes earn points for exercising and completing challenges
-
oh my goodness this is so sweet! :)
-
This sounds brilliant! How do you keep track of it? https://t.co/d6mckRQnZw
-
-

-
-
Like "Coach's eye" Reminds me of hawkeye in cricket- improving the vision and analysis of Ss and practitioners!
-
-
Q3. It varies a lot but for me focus=no time = sometimes. Resources = should be due to funding. Much more to be done!
-
Question 5 is on its way...
-
-
Get teachers, parents, and admin on board. School kickoff event like a sports day. Scoreboard visible to all
-
-
-
A3: unfortunately our school usually focuses on academic success. Nothing else matters so much.
-
Either have kids turn in "timeslips" or an online platform to have them put in their activities from anywhere
-
A5: Time. Make lunch longer so there is more outdoor recess. Encourage teachers to take students out for lessons!
-
A4: Our has kids take it serious. She's had almost all teachers/ parents connect via dojo
-
Confidence, parent interaction, how fun a club can be and are there friends doing the activity too https://t.co/aMGrIsGvVm
-
A5 -Pupils forgetting kit, Untimely interventions/work catch up during P.E and Diet
-
A5- Often the rewards and perks of taking part are a problem. Using charts and other rewards help
-
A5 - Transport to inter school competitions and weekend/evening clubs
-
A5- Hoping to possibly break or set a new world record in sporting capacity on sports day
-
myself and had a big discussion about chn doing PE if they forget uniform. Should it be done?
-
-
A5-Overcome them -Educate the parents. Ask colleagues for help and aim to motivate pupils using a praise or incentive system
-
A5: Barriers are computer games. We should teach kids physical games to play in the garden
-
To Me for Question 6 shortly
-
Teacher confidence with PE= fun CPD and low risk! Balancing competitiveness and motivation in the pupils=team spirit
-
-
-
A5: many technological advances and conveniences that have made our lives easier and less active
-
A6 - Ts can use Class Story to encourage Ss and Ps to do a physical activity together over the weekend!
-
-
-
A6: Dojo points for each session of physical activity they undertake!
-
Add rewards for physical activities. Earn points for completing exercises, outdoor activities, eating healthy
-
A6: Reward students for participation! Maybe after ss earn a certain amount of points they can choose to have class outside?
-
Ticks next to each item forgotten
-
A6- Dojo Points for not only participating but showing social skills all round and remembering kit etc
-
-
Great Idea! Something I am hoping to start using also
-
-
-
-
A6: Using Dojo points for sts all activity
-
As a thankyou for avoiding tonight's sport, here's a score update... Gould 8-7 Ding in the snooker and Liverpool 3-0 Everton!
-
A7: Encourage students to walk to school or ride their bikes if they live close enough.
-
A lot of parents worry about safety. Maybe a buddy system for walking to school?
-
A7- Recognition for pupils who walk to and from school, monitoring progress each half term via Impact Reports also
-
-
A7- Encouraging Pupils to walk to school with friends and parents if they live on the same street
-
A7 - Walking bus. Encouraging pupils to cycle to school where possible
-
-
A7: Each lesson at least 5 min I always use for healty
-
-
A8: winning the regional hockey tournament!
-
A8 I am sure our eco monitors will be on extra patrol to ensure electronics are turned off whilst not in use
-
Unfortunatly due to the time of year it's gone under the radar
-
A8- Letting our Unicef Ambassadors to recognise and reward classrooms, teachers and pupils who have been eco-friendly!
-
