Our chat will focus on the idea that we can lead and make positive change from any position in our school systems. Leadership is not about a title, it is a way of thinking and acting.
Hello, Everyone! Felix here joining from Miami on this great Saturday morning. If my buddy @TechNinjaTodd moderates like he leads, this'll be one awesome chat! :) #LeadLAP
I'm Todd Nesloney! Co-Founder of #KidsDeserveIt and author of the brand new book "Stories from Webb"! My 6 word memoir is...
Friend, author, dreamer, learner, reader, creator
#LeadLAP
"It's rarely easy, and you don't always feel like it, but as an adult who is being watched by little eyes and listened to by little ears, we have to set the example. We have to do what's right, even when it's hard and even when it hurts."
https://t.co/itNG9Bj5wG#LeadLAP
A1: I try to tell my story open and honestly. Warts and all. It's important to share failures as well as successes. I share via Twitter, FB Live videos, and my blog (as well as my books).
#LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
A1: Our school uses social media a TON! Almost all of our classes use twitter. Every class has a blog. We want our community to see what is happening. #LeadLAP
A1 Haven't started yet but reading Stories from Webb has been incredibly inspirational. Many of us at my school are wondering how we can share our story! #leadlap
I think that is so important, Todd. The journey is part of the story. The highs, the lows, the successes and the mistakes. #authentic and #REAL#LeadLAP#StoriesFromWebb
A1: I tell my story on my class FB page & on twitter!! Love that I can open my classroom up for Ps, Ts, & Community members to see what we’re doing in the classroom! #LeadLAP
A1: And even though I try and share my story all the time, it's still scary and it's still hard to be that open. But I keep doing it.
#LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
Blogging, journaling, sharing. I share a brief memoir with my students and coworkers each year. I also write alongside my students, sharing with them my vulnerabilities and fears. Stories bind us and compel us in our work. #LeadLAP
A1: Pushing through fear and sharing my story more by blogging, getting my feet wet with presenting. A big step was sharing on the #KidsDeserveIt podcast! #LeadLAP
A1 I share my story on FB and twitter but I also share with our staff at the start of each year and with our students particularly when we talk about choices and that could be in my office or in an assembly #Leadlap
A1 #leadlap We’ve made deliberate choices to showcase the positive, on social media, in the newspapers, in public speaking and on district phone calls home. This is a focus.
A1: We also invite the community in as much as we can. Just yesterday when the Fire Department came (false alarm) one of the firefighters said "I've heard good things about this school, my daughter is 2 but I want her to come here" #LeadLAP
A1: Started a blog in Oct of 2016 and have since found my voice! I tell my story through that and Twitter. Now I wonder how I've been teaching without that. The Twitter support and #PLN is AMAZING! #LeadLAP
A1: Writing this book with my team was terrifying for many of us. BUT we've seen the power of story and how our stories can change lives. You MUST tell YOURS! #LeadLAP
A1) I'm somewhat of a private person. Very reluctant to share too much of my personal story. I do share about my experiences in the classroom, though, through my podcast and a blog. #LeadLAP
A1: I did this with my regular life with My Life as a Comic Book Reader https://t.co/15lthd43PD but my teaching life, others keep coming up with a book first. #LeadLAP
A1: I tweet, share on Facebook, and blog every once in awhile. I've always wanted to write a book, but I guess I just don't know where to start. #LeadLAP
A1: Sharing our stories through one-on-one conversations is just as important and, sometimes, requires even more courage ad vulnerability than in larger venues. But its relational! #LeadLAP
A1 My professional story is increasingly unfolding digitally: tweets, blogs, online artifacts. Mix of willy-nilly & purposeful sharing as ideas cross pollinate. #LeadLAP
I'm very open about my own learning disability and struggles when working with my SPED students. They are often shocked that I was once in their shoes. In some ways, I feel like it gives me a little extra "street cred" with my high schoolers. #LeadLAP#SPED
I’ve chosen Twitter to tell our schools’ story and mine. It has demonstrated that perception can be reality and highlighting the positive can only help your culture! #LeadLAP
A1: I tell my story through my own social media accounts, my class accounts (@MrsMacsKinders ) and through my blog ( https://t.co/PUp3JIP879 ) I have learned the hard way that if I don’t tell my story someone else will. I love sharing how much we are growing. #LeadLAP
A1: I continuously say I'm going to blog. I'm failing that that every single minute of every single day. Maybe considering it "telling my story" will help #leadlap
A1. I TRY to tell my story everyday. How I move through this life. How I show love and kindness. I make mistakes. We all. Let your life be your story.#LeadLAP
A1: time to tell it & the idea that I’m not sure anyone wants to hear it; it’s kind of boring. Granted I tell it daily by the actions I take with kids, staff & community- it’s present in how I live #leadlap
A1B: To tell my district's story, I've added two SM platforms and have been taking pics and sharing all the good we have to offer. If we don't share it and tell our story, the negative people will. #LeadLAP
A1: I share the classroom experiences of my students and myself on Twitter. I would like to start blogging but I need to take the time to learn how. #LEADLAP
I am in the process of helping fill out a Green School Application to tell my own story.
I haven't journaled or blogged in a while as I've been busy working on my Master's. #leadlap
#LeadLAP A1. I share many thoughts and ideas with a small group that I work with because they are willing to share and be reseptive through email, Twitter, Pinterest boards, texting, and sharing books to read.
A1: sharing my story through twitter, working with preservice teachers, collaborating with my team and helping my Ss share through planning our classroom blog. #LeadLAP
Appreciated your post a few weeks ago when you struggled with hearing someone's negative (inaccurate) perception of you through another. I think that was your post. #LeadLAP
A1: I took a leap of faith, I wanted to change the world! I wanted to be a light for others to follow - here’s my story #leadlap The Tattooed, Skater Principal Making Education Fun Again https://t.co/LGtahojymA via @YouTube
Good morning! New to teaching (around 5 weeks in as a 3rd grade teacher), new to twitter chats (did my first one Thursday)! Exited to be here! #LeadLAP
A1 I share my story with my pln through chats and book studies, I share with students to let them know that I too share their struggles. I need to blog, but haven't yet. #LeadLAP
I love that #StoriesFromWebb has inspired this kind of thinking, Felix! We all have so much to share. It's not a book, but this is a project we tried in my former district. https://t.co/0z1eoQBivA#leadlap
A1 Haven't started yet but reading Stories from Webb has been incredibly inspirational. Many of us at my school are wondering how we can share our story! #leadlap
A1 I am open about my varied journey in life, as I took a non-traditional path. I don't tell all, as I worry some may use my story against me. That may change if I'm in a place w/more trust. #LeadLAP
Our superintendent will@be sharing “our story” to the public at our 2nd annual state of the district address. Community leaders , parent and staff leaders will be there. We are focusing on our community partnerships this year #leadlap
A1: I share our story though Twitter & other social media outlets! We LOVE to showcase our teachers & students!!! It is positive for our culture #LeadLap
A1: I also share through my reading life. I post my to-read list in class, as well as the book I am currently reading. I also talk with students about my next read. What we read reveals a great deal about us. #LeadLAP
A1: Twitter, F2F convos, & ever since this summer reading #LeadLAP, I've had a goal to blog. I posted my first entry but haven't put it out there. Now may be a good time to intro https://t.co/zS1mjUjqri. It is set up - now need to work on it & get it out there.
I use to do a monthly vidcast, but after I lost my last job in 2015 I lost a lot of my tools and never recovered financially to purchase my own. I loved doing the tutorials. #LeadLAP

A1: I also share through my reading life. I post my to-read list in class, as well as the book I am currently reading. I also talk with students about my next read. What we read reveals a great deal about us. #LeadLAP
Twitter and verbal communication! I enjoy self disclosing of my own personal, social, and academic struggles/successes with S's. I feel it makes me more relatable. #leadlap
I did too. But then I found some accountability partners and as we do it together, I've felt better. I hope you can share again. Its a powerful thing! #LeadLAP
I share as much as I can to our school hashtag - but I wasn't thinking about that as sharing MY story - rather the story of those who surround me (teachers, students, admin). #leadlap
Do that regularly with my business classes in teaching my Ss how to avoid pitfalls and learn from minor mistakes so they don't become HUGE mistakes later on. #LeadLAP
A1: I also share through my reading life. I post my to-read list in class, as well as the book I am currently reading. I also talk with students about my next read. What we read reveals a great deal about us. #LeadLAP
A1: we chronicle it everyday on @PollyRyonMS Facebook or Twitter...parent slive seeing their kids doing amazing things! We even had @halbowman@RockStarSchools come join us yesterday! Share with everybody...makes you REAL! #LeadLAP
Why, beyond the learning am I at a Google Summit. It is because I have Staff here that I can engage with. Relationships with ALL Staff is essential. #LeadLAP#hs4
Brad from Poplar Bluff, Mo. A1 - We rely heavily on FB to communicate with parents. We have a twitter presence, but it isn’t well followed. Looking into Instagram. #LeadLAP
You're not the only one. It's hard these days because everyone is sharing their own story. You just have to figure out what works for you and that will help build confidence over time. #LeadLAP
A2: Well first I wrote the book with them hahah. But I try and make time daily to stop by different rooms and check in on people.
#LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
A1 #LeadLAP Personal stories: I share Advisory class. They see Ts as having “perfect” life. Sharing stories of pain, failures & success efforts create connections. Professional: YouTube, blogs, workshops, webinars
A1: We share by using the hashtag #ownyourimpact. I’ve recently started putting out a weekly challenge, which gives Ts incentive (one winner gets lunch on me) to tell a certain kind of story from their classroom! #leadlap
I got an idea from a member in the #bookcamppd Voxer group to put a small image of my current read, along with a 2-3 sentence summary in the signature of my email. I've been doing this for the last couple of weeks not. #LeadLAP
Absolutely - and when I think of it more - isn't telling my story helping reflection and encouraging deeper, better thinking? I know - I need to get on it! #leadlap
A1: Right now as a new T I am sharing my story with my colleagues that I trust (teammates, CT, mom @yenneam), for practical support and empathy. Looking forward to sharing my story with the world as my confidence and experience grows! #LeadLAP
A2 I spend a lot of time on edchats growing my PLN and talking to principals abt conf. In the hopes of gaining new ideas. I have also reached out to visit other schools on occasion to observe what they are doing #Leadlap
A2: I have build a #PLN that is amazing and share on twitter, through DM, Facebook, voxer and GHOs and often through the ancient email. Even F2F when I get the chance #LeadLAP
I share my story on a weekly blog, hoping to inspire others. I just shared my amazing experience with a group of students in @tarletonstate journal of effective school projects- https://t.co/pIeXejYUMH#LeadLAP
In reply to
@APKRentz, @TechNinjaTodd, @tarletonstate
A2- Facebook and Snapchat. We've created a school Snapchat group, where we share what we're doing after school hours. I've learned a lot about the people I work with through social media! #leadlap
A2: Small district, so we get to know each other more than a larger district, but there's room for growth. I'm encouraging (dragging) my EDUs to Twitter, Voxer, and voluntary PD so that we can connect more. Opening classroom walls and sharing the goodness is our goal. #LeadLAP
A2: @voxer has become such a big part of my professional life. Connecting with so many new and amazing educators! Also starting some book clubs and excited about hiding that as a new way to connect #LeadLAP
A2: I try to get to know them outside of being a colleague... asking questions... intentionally making conversations... showing interest and curiosity in who they are besides as an educator. #LeadLAP
A1: I use S'more to share things happening throughout our building. We do "Staff Shoutouts" & "Staff Spotlight" along with surveys, updates, PD opportunities, & uplifting quotes! #LeadLap
A2: Twitter, blog reading, emailing if an article writer gave their email - and then recently when I really liked something and needed to process - asked if they could talk by phone (someone non-local) and they were totally willing! #LeadLAP
A2: I host a writing group each Monday afternoon. Here, we freewrite, respond to poems, or discus, through writing, fears and frustrations. I love the community we have built and the people who attend. They are my tribe. We are united by story. #LeadLAP
A2: I'm trying to slow down and be more intentional in my one-on-one conversations. And, hoping to get more of our staff connected here on Twitter! #LeadLAP
I share my story on a weekly blog, hoping to inspire others. I just shared my amazing experience with a group of students in @tarletonstate journal of effective school projects- https://t.co/pIeXejYUMH#LeadLAP
A1: I blog write, share on Twitter, offer PD through my district, speak at conferences any chance I get, and super excited and honored to be writing a book to be published by DBC later this year! #leadlap
A2 On site, I connect as much as I can f2f and make sure I listen way more than I talk. Then, I continue the conversation & show support online. In person follow up is a must at the end. #LeadLAP
A2: Hallway and after school chats, I would love to do more though. We are all just as unique as our students. It is worth it to take the time. #LeadLAP
A2: As a tech integrator, it's important for me to reach out to Ts in my building. We created a Tiny Tech Cafe in our Innovation Lab complete with sofa, bar height chairs, Keurig so we can chat in a cozier, quieter environment. #LeadLAP
LOL - I'm good enough at talking myself out of exercise! I'd be willing to be your accountability partner too! They don't have to be in the same building (or country)! #LeadLAP
#LeadLAP A2. I read 4'oclock faculty and I am trying to gather a group to grow in learning together. With that there will be brainstorming, learning, sharing, feedback, and real reflection involved. #4OCF
Organizing team dinners and checking in throughout the day. It would be great to utilize a duty free lunch to sit with colleagues to build relationships instead of working independently in the classroom. #LeadLAP
#LeadLAP A2 My coworker "stories" inspire me to become better. Share who you are with your coworkers, especially your hall neighbors. Twitter is an AMAZING way to connect with educators on a truly global scale.
A2: We have a start of the year bbq @ my House with families, we have “choir practice” randomly, the fac mtgs schedule has fac socials too- Little Debbie Day is a fave! Stories are awesome to me, but I’m a story teller so I love learning theirs! #LeadLAP
A2: taking the time to talk to my colleagues- and trying to make time to visit their classrooms. Setting up things like a #whyiteach activity before staff mtgs & at district mtgs. #LeadLAP
A1&2: I take the time to talk. I'm an open book! My transparency creates trust, so others don't have to hide. I'm real, like them, with struggles, doubts, & successes. #LeadLAP
A2: We just started a podcast two weeks ago to share our beliefs & stories together! #ToughTalkWithTeachers on @podbean! We will meet for coffee to discuss our personal lives & our goals in our professional lives! #LeadLap
That's awesome! We try that too! Have you ever done the "Tell me how you got your name" activity? Its super fun and you learn all sorts of fun things! #LeadLAP
A2- Reading blogs of others. Todd- your book Stories from Webb is on my short list too. Talking with others and of course this tool here... keep on tweeting! #LeadLAP
A2: We have our school hashtag #TMGenius that helps us connect, share our story together. We also started a school collab blog https://t.co/KJb0lXV6I0 where our leaders can share their stories in a more in depth way. #LeadLAP
A2: I try to engage in conversations about things I know they love. I bring up their families and significant others and pets... and I watch them light up. ❤️ I love to be there when they could use some help. I ask this questions as much as I can. #LeadLAP
I really like this idea. We have weekly team meetings, used to accomplish what needs to be accomplished, but our catching up during those meetings always makes them run REALLY long. I wonder if there would be value in separating the two. It may FEEL better that way. #leadlap
A2: I am also asking questions about how is everything going. Know their kids names, check on sick relatives, & ALWAYS write handwritten notes of appreciation. #LeadLap
A2:This Twitter thing, y'all. I'm finally getting into it. It's taken a year, but I'm on it all the time to grow my PLN esp with those w/in my district & building. This Millennial is still quite the fan of face to face discussions, collaborations, & sharing of stories. #LeadLAP
A2: Through Twitter and reading others' blogs, etc. There are so many inspiring educators out there! They keep me excited and motivated to keep growing. #leadlap
Thanks for the encouragement! Just getting it going was exciting. Now to write more... and share it more. Takes courage but I've been convinced of the worth! #LeadLAP
Yes, that is a problem for me too. I am often with the kids on the yard connecting. Have to make connecting with Ts a priority. And social hours help too! #LeadLAP
So important... when Ts feel like the only time you chat is when you want something, they are less likely to open up. Great plan of action, Todd! #LeadLAP
"Our names hold value. For some people, their name is all they have. We owe it to people to not only learn their names but also learn how to pronounce them correctly"
https://t.co/itNG9BAGVg#LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
A2.2. Taking a few minutes to talk with colleagues and making intentional choices to connect with others with whom you may not regularly do so #LeadLAP
#LeadLAP Sharing our diverse stories helps students to relate to us and develop meaningful relationships. I use my story to encourage students to dig deep and be triumphant!
A1: I started my first blog yesterday https://t.co/1BnqSiUwkH I will be blogging more often now because I believe we all have an awesome story to share #leadlap
A1: As the technology admin on my campus I try to share every moment that I have grown with the teachers I coach. I want them to always know that is okay to share when we struggled and how we overcame the obstacles. #LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
Connecting through Voxer, Principal Cluster Meetings, Twitter & just our simple text message groups to keep us all tuned up to what is important. It is important that we continue to share! #leadlap
We are reading mostly YA fiction to know and understand what the students are reading. One of the Ts just sent out an email at the beginning of the year to see if there was an interest. #LeadLAP
A2: Well, I’m here on Twitter so that’s huge for reaching out. I like to also participate in as many district and union level activities to engage others. #LeadLAP
A2: Something we tried in our system... A year of learning blog with contributions from a different person each day. It was powerful! https://t.co/0z1eoQBivA#LeadLAP
#LeadLAP would it be good to separate the meeting part from the community building part ; things we have to get done (business) and things we want to do (personal/social)?
A2: There is a fun activity with 100%, 50% and 1% of ppl. We learned SO much about ppl. Too long to explain on a Tweet, but if anyone is interested I can send info! #LeadLAP
Q3: I love how @teachermantrav does an after school writing group with his peers. How can you connect with your peers and grow together (besides Twitter)?
#LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
A2: When Staff attends PD of campus, they are scheduled to present and share back to our staff...making them the campus expert! Next year we are going to share our @PollyRyonMS Ted Talks at each staff meeting! #LeadLAP
A2b: I started the QOD for lead meetings & fac meetings this year too. Something completely random & mostly non- work related- huge score with staff! They look forward to sharing w/ each other 🙌 #LeadLAP
A2: Get outside your own school. Go visit others doing great things. Everyone should take time to visit others in your role at other schools - principals, teachers, etc. #LeadLAP#kidsdeserveit#10principles
A2: I’ve gone old school - I have tried to be intentional about picking up the phone or seeing people in person! I crave organic, authentic conversations that are meaningful! #LeadLAP
Q3: I love how @teachermantrav does an after school writing group with his peers. How can you connect with your peers and grow together (besides Twitter)?
#LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
#LeadLAP
A2b: We currently have an optional bookstudy going on @A5WHES! Teacher 50:Critical Questions for Inspiring Classroom Excellence by @PrincipalKafele has provided a wonderful opportunity for teachers and admin. to have rich convos around the questions.
A3: I want to start an after school craft, chess, workout, or book club with some teachers! Spend time doing something other than lesson planning!
#LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
A1: I also share through my reading life. I post my to-read list in class, as well as the book I am currently reading. I also talk with students about my next read. What we read reveals a great deal about us. #LeadLAP
A2: Get outside your own school. Go visit others doing great things. Everyone should take time to visit others in your role at other schools - principals, teachers, etc. #LeadLAP#kidsdeserveit#10principles
A2: Visiting colleagues’ classrooms or offices is a great way to hear more stories. I love going into classes and hearing the instructor, listening to students, and watching the story of their teaching unravel. #LeadLAP
A3: When we do PL together. Not just in our building but on conferences. We do our best to make sure no staff does PL alone. We have 7 Ts @OpalSchool this weekend. Powerful learning. #LeadLAP
Q3: I love how @teachermantrav does an after school writing group with his peers. How can you connect with your peers and grow together (besides Twitter)?
#LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
A2 #LeadLAP Thoroughly enjoy when we go out as a school on Friday afternoon! We can decompress the week & discuss personal life to prepare for the week-end. Downtime w/a purpose.
A3: Am helping start a #tlap book study, incorporating some after school fun PD ideas that I got from the #4OCF Voxer book study, and looking for ways to make our building and district a FUN place to be! #LeadLAP
Q3: I love how @teachermantrav does an after school writing group with his peers. How can you connect with your peers and grow together (besides Twitter)?
#LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
A3: Share goals & be human. The one thing a leader possesses is “the island” & it must be made to attract others. Share! Build a dock so the party barge stops in there too! #LeadLAP
A2: We also did our building-wide PD EdCamp style last week & it was amazing! I gave 15 minutes before we started to just "catch up" with each other! #LeadLap
A3: Book studies have been great for connecting our staff in professional dialogue. Working on planning some social gathering soon, with no agenda other than fun and personal connection! #LeadLAP
A3 I would love to start something like a book club or have a rotating blog post with a group of administrators in different MS that could collaborate and toss around ideas and new information #Leadlap
A1: I share my story by sharing my life in a way that includes others: I love working WITH people and not just near them. I also share my story through Twitter. I guess should update my blog (https://t.co/M5VJGVGF34) more... #LeadLap
A3-Holding face-to-face chat sessions. I've scheduled a chat session about Kagan structures and invited our T's and staff. I want to learn about their strengths in the classroom and connect. Also, visiting their classrooms and seeing their magical teaching abilities. #leadlap
Q3: I love how @teachermantrav does an after school writing group with his peers. How can you connect with your peers and grow together (besides Twitter)?
#LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt

#LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
Q3: I love how @teachermantrav does an after school writing group with his peers. How can you connect with your peers and grow together (besides Twitter)?
#LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
A2: Finding times to watch others teach, even if briefly, and following up with them. I come from being a para, and one of the things I miss most is watching other amazing Ts work their magic everyday. Can inspire great conversations. #LeadLAP
A3: Our crew just had "Milk and Cookies" yesterday evening. Offsite connections with non-school conversation always helps to recharge batteries and build the team. #LeadLAP
I suspect that if a teacher took a break from the profession and came back in 5 or 10 years it would be totally different. Mostly because of tech. #LeadLAP
A3: I have invited others into my classroom and have asked to visit theirs so that we can better understand each other and help each other out. #LeadLAP
A3: Currently, I'm doing an Innovator's Mindset book study with 9 Ts. We meet at Panera after school and it completely changes the dynamic! Also doing #tlap with 2 Ts and online #PersonalizedPD course w/5 Ts. So much FUN! #LeadLAP
Q3: I love how @teachermantrav does an after school writing group with his peers. How can you connect with your peers and grow together (besides Twitter)?
#LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
A3: Intrigued by the coffeeEdu or EDBrew ideas I've seen. We are a large district so would be interesting to put something together to get grade levels from differing schools together just to chat #LeadLAP
A3: our district has many year long learning teams. I invite teachers to join me on one...and every year there are groups of our Ts on almost every team! #LeadLAP
You could even do a meet up on the weekend (or anytime), but remotely through Google Hangouts, skype, etc. I haven't tried this, but the idea is intriguing. #LeadLAP
A3b-Planning things outside of school. Yesterday a group of staff went out for chips and salsa after school. I haven't laughed so hard in so long! We need to do this more often! #leadlap
A3: I LOVE how our ESL coordinator @PalmaTeresa13 works it out for us to meet for PLC once a semester! It’s imperative to learn from our peers and collaborate for a common cause
#leadLAP
Right? I always have a moment or two where I pause, and then I hit Publish. :) Hey, is there a hashtag for the Stories from the Web book? #LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
Q3: I love how @teachermantrav does an after school writing group with his peers. How can you connect with your peers and grow together (besides Twitter)?
#LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
A3: I think social gatherings, even just lunch, outside of the school building does wonders to learn, share, and grow. It doesn't always have to be something new and techie (even tho I love being a techie). #LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
Q3: I love how @teachermantrav does an after school writing group with his peers. How can you connect with your peers and grow together (besides Twitter)?
#LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
A3: We are constantly connecting & learning as a team. We did 12 different T-led & chosen book studies over the summer (some in person, some @Voxer), we shared school-wide w @Flipgrid , we focus on building our PLNs, supporting & challenging each other. #LeadLAP
A3: At our school we do monthly socials put on by each "huddle". I also plan to start (really soon!) an after-school "APPy Hour" to just chill and talk about different types of instructional technology. Very informal! #hacklearning#LeadLAP
Q3: I love how @teachermantrav does an after school writing group with his peers. How can you connect with your peers and grow together (besides Twitter)?
#LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
It's a bit premature, but we're building a video-based professional social network for education, due out next school year. https://t.co/G4MNGTTv7j#leadlap
As a parent I appreciated a teacher revealing that he’d had an indequate school experience because it motivated him to make better experiences for our kids. #LeadLAP
A3: As an AP, I frequently sit with the other APs in my building to debrief the day, commiserate, or share ideas. But we never collaborate with other APs in the district. Maybe some kind of e-group...? Going to look into this idea more. #LeadLAP
My school site has a book club. We pick one book per year and meet in person once a month or use a community white board to discuss its implications. #LeadLAP
I love how many voices would be heard in your system! I do a weekly Smore for faculty and one for families and always blog at the beginning some part of our story- maybe I need to get some other voices to contribute! #LeadLAP
Our district has the same gym membership. There are quite a few teachers and staff that all go to the same workout classes. It's so cool! #LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
A3. Local PLC group. We eat chicken wings and talk. Also, with @Stella_Pollard we have started a #techotuesday where we are available to help answer questions and show new things. #LeadLAP
A3: Busy schedules create some barriers, but a small group of colleagues participate in monthly book(there is no judgment if you don’t complete the book in time 😅) #LeadLAP
A3: I like doing @voxer book chats w/ my peers!! I love learning their insights/voice/passion/convictions!! It takes my learning to the next level! #LeadLAP
We are doing a @KidsDeserveIt book study...last week we were trained on @CanvasLMS “discussions”..so we used this platform with our staff for their responses to discussion questions! #LeadLAP@AbbyKettler used with her reading kids too! Practicing what you preach! @TechNinjaTodd
A3: Another idea: Coffee Saturdays -- let colleagues know when and where you will be for coffee and invite them to join you for a social time and conversation. #leadlap
A3: My colleague and I joined each other’s Google Classrooms as co-teachers. It helps us keep relative pacing; it is a natural way to collaborate without increasing need to over-explain everything; we also gain student exemplars from each other’s students along the way. #leadlap
Q3: I love how @teachermantrav does an after school writing group with his peers. How can you connect with your peers and grow together (besides Twitter)?
#LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
A3: We have a large group of Ts in a school Voxer group, where we share ideas, successes, and struggles. Creates connections and further conversations. Often hear from someone in person “I like what you said on Voxer...” #leadlap
A3: I would love for our staff to have a common time to gather that was not adenda-driven, just a time to connect. There are Ts I have never had a conversation with because I only see them at staff meetings. #leadlap
I connect with other admin by calling them and meeting up with them after school and did a Voxer group on Lead Like a Pirate. I also am enjoying some admin group on FB for various topics. #LeadLAP

A2: It's great to connect afar with Twitter but a "new" way to connect for many people is F2F: visiting others, taking time to talk, helping in person. I am also a huge fan of #EdCamp models of connecting. #leadlap

A4: When people tell me they don't have time, I tell them that I make 15 min at night every night before I go to bed. I don't always make it the full 15 min, but I try!

I am unabashedly celebratory of what I’m reading OUTSIDE of education books. I read a play a week and am 60% through Dickens’ BLEAK HOUSE. Model your expectations!! #LeadLAP
A4: I love reading stories about characters who have had a different experience than mine-helps me build empathy for those who I encounter. Read “The Hate U Give” and “Tattoos on the Heart”. Highly recommend both! #leadLAP
A4: I'm not reading a non-PD book on the side. And it's a time thing. What I'm reading for my own PD is so interesting and impactful that I don't want to put that down. #LeadLAP
A4: I recently read That Workshop Book by Sam Bennett. It really pushed my thinking about my own reading/writing workshop. I’m excited to read #180days by @pennykittle & @KellyGToGo and A Novel Idea by @teachkate#LeadLAP

#LeadLAP A4. I am reading Dare to Dream Then Do It by John C. Maxwell. As I get older and am turning the corner of raising 3 kids and teaching I need some me time. What do I want to do in my life? Definitely out of my comfort zone to think about me.
A4 #LeadLAP French literature from a variety of genres, but my husband pushes me to read more history of the Middle East and North Africa. Not as many PD books, strangely enough...
#LeadLAP
This morning I finished Teacher 50. I am also reading Lead Like a Pirate, Bud Not Buddy, Visual Learning, and Be the Wild Card. #lovegrowing#principalinaction

Q3: I love how @teachermantrav does an after school writing group with his peers. How can you connect with your peers and grow together (besides Twitter)?
#LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
A4: My principal @ryanssiemens got me "9 Lessons I Learned From My Father" By Murray Howe. I've now gotten a couple other books about Gordie Howe. Really interested in learning more! #LeadLAP
I’m here to learn too. It does take promotion... just because it’s sent or posted doesn’t mean it’s read. A hashtag campaign. And certainly modeling from educators across the school or district, driven by leadership prioritizing it. #LeadLAP
A4: I also have on deck "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas". My 9th grade daughter just finished it for a class and loved it. I very much enjoy YA books that my kids are reading. #LeadLAP
A4-I'm currently reading @KidsDeserveIt, as well as @rubyKpayne's A Framework for Understanding Poverty! The next non-PD book I want to read is Wild by Cheryl Strayed. #leadlap

Our group is voluntary. I haven’t heard the notifications complaint. Ive stressed the importance of taking what you can from it and not making it one more thing. My issue lately is that it started out really well but has slowed. Trying to find new ways to engage them. #leadlap
A4: Here’s My Post about becoming a passionate reader! 📚📖💕
My colleague and friend @MissCoffey5 is always inspiring me and encouraging my reading life! #leadlaphttps://t.co/aWUPA1p5um

A2: Ask your teachers to create PD boards & have them work on them throughout the year. Make it fun & have small prizes (friendly competition). Here is an example: 👇 #satchat
A4 Reading “The Silk Roads” and “Guns, Germs, & Steel” since im also teaching social studies this yea. Not my strength. Realizing I’m more comfortable when I’m interested & have more background. #alwayslearning#teachwhatyouknow#learnwhatyoudon’t #LeadLAP
A3: We need more face to face connection. There's always the possibility of connecting in person in formats like over coffee, idea-sharing lunch, book clubs, etc. #leadlap
Sometimes it's hard to read outside of PD. I have limited time available and want to grab all the best PD so I can be my best for kids. But reading for fun is also important #LeadLAP
Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics. I was very wary, but I needed a way to de-stress and it seemed marketed to someone just like me 😉. So far it’s been quite helpful. #LeadLAP

A4: I'm currently reading The Speed of Trust by Stephen M.R. Covey and I'm about to start a book study on When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing by @DanielPink - not sure they are out of the box - looking to stretch my thinking though. #leadlap
A3: peers getting together at Ss activities and sitting together, cheering on... learning of interests that we share like up coming iFLY evening for educators and STEM #leadLAP

A4: I’m currently re-reading “The Stand” by Stephen King. With the flu running so rampant, it certainly sometimes has my imagination taking me to uncomfortable thoughts! #LeadLAP
Vulnerability is a key characteristic of outstanding leaders. If your stories don't show your vulnerability, you're not sharing your 'true" story! #LeadLap
A4: Cant get this answer straight this morning. I realized I read with my kids each night. The last reading olypmics book I read and enjoyed was Crazy Horse. Great historical fiction. by Joseph Marshall #LeadLAP
A5: I share mine open and honestly first, and then I encourage, encourage, encourage them to share theirs. I have learned so much about what happens in peoples' lives outside of school through this.
#LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
A2: Ask your teachers to create PD boards & have them work on them throughout the year. Make it fun & have small prizes (friendly competition). Here is an example: 👇 #satchat
A4: I have also been re-invigorated by reading some fiction. This is helpful for PD in that good fiction helps us see and better understand human nature. #leadlap
A5: I decided to take the lead and during quiet days help teach my coworkers how to learn new tools they can be using in their classroom or ideas. I don't show my entire hand, but just little pieces. They love it. #LeadLAP
A5: I encourage my Ts to share at meetings and present in and out of district. We have some #rockstar Ts that need to learn the power of sharing because all #kidsdeserveit not just the ones in their classes #leadlap
A5: Encouraging social media use, reading, and presenting together! Working on a conference proposal with some of my teachers led us to overhauling our entire RELA structure in upper elem. Its been AWESOME! And kids are benefiting! #LeadLAP
A5: I learned sooooo much through writing "Stories from Webb" with my school family. They were truly brave in some of the stories they shared!!
#LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
A5: I'm asking my team to try to take pictures of the work they are doing with teachers every day and tweet. They are also using a blog to share the work they do. #leadlap
A4- My list is long. I am currently reading The Power of a Positive Leader. I am also reading through Get Better Faster. Wish I had this one sooner- very systematic and makes sense. #LeadLAP
A5 We have been working the last two or three years of getting our teachers to post to our hash tag and have encouraged them to become a part of edchats and expand their PLN. We are building steam but still have a ways to go #Leadlap
At every admin mtg ( monthly) everyone is expected to share an example of a tried practice that worked, a book read, a podcast listened to, etc. #leadlap A5
A5: Finally after a convo with @GustafsonBrad I got twitter up and running in the office and the cafeteria projector. Images and written snapshots of awesome things happening in classrooms - conversation sparking! #LeadLAP
A5: I'm encouraging Ts to create district-approved FB and Twitter pages to spotlight the awesome things they do in the classroom! It's such a great way to connect community, validate student work, and inspire others, too! #LeadLAP
A5 by just listening to them and asking them questions. I want the kids to get the best out of their teachers and in order for that to happen they have to be taking care of. #LeadLap
A3 We are doing a book study around a topic that is an issue in our school. I think meeting outside the school building is important, people relax more and hang out longer. #LeadLAP
It starts with you. Especially if you’re in a position of leadership.
And incidentally, anyone who models this themselves is in a position of leadership. 😉 #LeadLAP
A5: I share mine open and honestly first, and then I encourage, encourage, encourage them to share theirs. I have learned so much about what happens in peoples' lives outside of school through this.
#LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
A5: sometimes it takes us getting them started. I love to "sprinkle" the ideas of others around and help connect people on topics of joint interest. #LeadLAP
A5: constantly pushing the team to utilize multiple methods to tell their story. I’m learning that I can’t worry about what platform etc they use, just important that we are sharing our stories some way #leadlap
This is something we need to do more. I want to see our admin doing this at our admin meetings (I haven't been successful in getting this done YET). We need to celebrate all the things we do - the great and the great failures - we are all learning, too! #LeadLAP
A5: I try to encourage fellow teachers to find a way to share their stories in whatever way suits them best... Twitter, Instagram, blog, newsletters, etc. Everyone has their own unique personality & the way they share their stories will be just as unique. #LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
A5: I'm presenting in a couple of weeks on Twitter for T's and Twitter for Admin. I'm trying to get as many people as I can in our district to embrace the power of Twitter! #leadlap I many be asking some of you for your testimonials.
I agree - time is much more flexible in the summer. Excellent observation! I also find that when Ts have choice in book selection, the buy-in and application is higher #LeadLAP
A5: In the process of getting Ts in the D to let us showcase a minute of their class time via FB, Instagram, and Twitter for the families. Short video clips, maybe a S of the Week -thanks @joshchoward . Am centralizing the method for how to get me the goodness to share. #LeadLAP
A5: Trying to help foster an environment that allows for Ts to be open and risk-taking, even in what they share. I've learned that everyone has a story. But we have to be willing to authentically listen. #LeadLAP
A:5 As a great friend shares with us weekly in our PLCs @stolarc time set aside to ask our team individually: ‘What’s working, what’s not, anything to share?’ #leadLAP
A5: Just started the QOD at all the meetings this year. It’s been fun to see my HS staff & the district staff grow into each other ☺️💙 They have so much to share! #leadlap
A5 School policy says we can't post on our own, but Ts send info to post on the school social media account. Teachers are going to do a Techie Tailgate (in honor of Super Bowl) to practice twitter chats on Monday. Would love for #leadLAP to jump in on #semoedchat if they can.
A5: It's so important to connect. Make relationships a priority and model transparency. If I'm not stuffy, they can relax and share too. Ask them questions. Value their thoughts and experiences. Seek to elevate others. It changes the dynamic! #LeadLAP
A5: This is a tough one...I try to encourage others to share by establishing relationships built on trust. It takes a while for people to begin sharing, but when they share small parts of their story and they feel respected..they will continue to share. #LeadLAP
A4: Reading @JonGordon11 The Power of Positive Leadership, The Leader in Me for a district training and Beyonders, Book 1 we have a group of Ss fascinated by the series. #leadlap
A5: Something as simple as doing an email chain on a Friday asking staff to share something awesome that happened in the classroom during the week. Reply all to share the awesome! #LeadLAP
A5: As a new T, it’s really easy to get others to share their stories. Lots of people willing to share, and I’m willing to ask for as much of their story as they will give. I hope that as years go by I continue to be willing to ask, I know they will continue to share. #LeadLAP
A5: during #nationalWritingDay I sent all ESL teachers an email to share as many pictures of our Ss writing. It was amazing to see how these stories were empowering to so many teachers and Ss #leadLAP
A5: we have created a school hashtag and encourage teachers to follow others and post their own work. I also email articles and thoughts from Twitter for all since I know all are not on Twitter yet! #LeadLAP
I love it... we could do something similar with our classrooms using our school FB page... hmmm may have to schedule a visit with admin Monday morning :) #LeadLAP
A5. As a leader I try to model my own learning, including owning my own mistakes and try-agains. We don’t always talk enough about individual impact and the stories that lead to change. #LeadLAP
Love this sentiment from #StoriesFromWebb REAL stories from a school family that is making a difference for students and each other. #LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
A5. Better than any protocol or staff-meeting add-in, the best thing a leader can do is inspire a culture of S everyday sharing & risk-taking with psychological safety. Simon Sinek’s TED talk about this is great. #leadlap
A5: Since I am still crafting my voice, I have not yet mentored my colleagues in this way. We share much with each other. Collabs start with regular checkins, text threads, PD experience shareouts, book clubs, PD presentations. Nothing beyond the local though. #LeadLAP
A5: Trying to help foster an environment that allows for Ts to be open and risk-taking, even in what they share. I've learned that everyone has a story. But we have to be willing to authentically listen. #LeadLAP
A5- I work to develop a culture of trust and risk. We have teachers observe each other as a team of 3 (triad) and meet once a 6 weeks to discuss together. We also try to just have some fun as well. #LeadLAP
A6: We have started Social Media Interns, Student Council, and Student Input Committees to help make sure we're always listening to our students.
#LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
A4: My PD book I'm looking forward to reading is Wild Card by @hopekingteach and @WadeKing7 My daughter gave me Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter for Christmas so planning to start that soon. #leadlap
A6: We created Beacon Awards to honor those exemplifying core values. It was at first meant to be teachers honoring kids. Then kids started coming up to me in the cafeteria nominating their teachers and fellow students. So cool. #LeadLAP
"My story's already been told." Hardly! Stories are kaleidoscopic. Tell & retell them in different times, contexts; listen with new audiences to refresh meaning. #LeadLAP
Taking the time to listen to their stories. I'm not only the counselor for students, but staff as well. I want our staff to know they can come to me at any time, even if it's just to vent. I care about all individuals in our building and will help if I can. #leadlap
A6: I hear stories of heartbreak every day from my students. Just yesterday morning a PreK kid came in crying. When I finally calmed him down, he told me his mom had beat him that morning for spilling milk at home. That broke my heart.
#LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
A5: Howdy from Barbara in TX; we've hung a Brag Board where faculty can post stuff they are proud of, picts of family, etc. That's such a great springboard for stepping into their stories! I love to just stop by and ask how they're doing, what they're up to. #leadlap
A6: At our school we've recently gotten #FlipgridFever (at least 5 teachers used it for the first time this week!) It allows for the unheard to be heard. We also encourage 5th graders to sign up to do the morning announcements. #LeadLAP
A4 I just went on a shopping spree! I’m spot reading a few, rereading others. 10 Mindframes will be my weekend read. I’m a geek, I love reading ed lit #LeadLAP
A6 certainly an area I can improve. We let students start their own clubs after they design a plan. We have a student leadership council. I would like a student to be the reporter of the week and share on social media. #leadLAP
A5: Twice a month Teachers pass on @ToddWhitaker book “What Great Teachers Do Differently” to someone they choose is deserving give us an example -highlight passage-flag with Post it...it’s been impactful stories! Now we do it a Principals Meetings! @AbbyKettlers idea! #LeadLAP
A6: Started all HS classes on Google Sites, and one page is dedicated to their passions. Connected my HS Mythology class with @hmarrs24 3rd graders in Oregon to mentor them in kindness, and am partnering my Eng2 Ss with @LeachTeach4 seniors in a fun writing project. #LeadLAP
A6: Two elem Ss showed an interest in learning new tech, so I'm giving them PD instead of the Ts this week! It would be great for them to share their knowledge to others on @Flipgrid! Student-led training modules! SCORE! #LeadLAP
A4: I'm reading Marzano's A Handbook for Personalized Competency-Based Education https://t.co/djsUADCFTg REALLY pushing my thinking - but helping me frame thoughts; begin to develop common language w/ my team #leadlap
PSA: You should read non-edu, too: helps gain perspective.
A6: It sounds simple, but carve out time to be where the kids are and talk with them. Interact on the playground, in the cafeteria, in the hallways, by the bus etc. #LeadLAP
A3: I’ve tried having online meetings using @GoogleForEdu as well as educational blogs. Book chats have been something I’ve used in the past too. #gwinchat#LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
A5-Taking the time to listen to their stories. I want our staff to know they can come to me at any time, even if it's just to vent. I care about all individuals in our building and will help if I can. School Counselor includes "school", which includes staff too. #leadlap

A5: Does anyone have trouble getting their colleagues to use social media to make connections because they want to keep their social media separate from their work? You know escapism? #LeadLAP
A5: Constantly remind them of their greatness & how much awesomeness will come along with sharing that. Personal reflection, others learning from their story, connecting & sharing w larger ed world. Win. Win. Win. Win. #yes#LeadLAP
I bet! Would you be willing to share more details? How did you launch it? What are the expectations? How long does it take? I want to wrap my brain around how it looks and consider stealing the idea. #LeadLAP
A5: Trying to get the pineapple up and running, our St ambassadors share out challenges to our staff to share out on our #, encourage #bettertogether culture. Share out awesome things happening in my weekly @SmorePages newsletter. #leadlap
A6: Listen, not to respond but to understand. When we let our Ss tell their stories, we win because we learn and grow. Hardest one this wk was a 4th grader who lost a sibling. Walking with him through his grief was such a blessing to me. #leadlap
A6: Listening more and listening more intently... also have them share their reflections weekly via @fiipgrid on their own private grid they, their parents and I have access too. Even 3rd graders can be really reflective #LeadLAP
Me too!! We are doing a student led edcamp for other students but having one for the teachers would be great. I know my kiddos love to share what we are doing. I need to get on this. #leadlap
Yes, And when the S is broken before school, we Ts need to be very aware of how we treat our Ss so as not to add to that. I want to help not hurt those who are quiet about their pain. #leadlap
I bet! Would you be willing to share more details? How did you launch it? What are the expectations? How long does it take? I want to wrap my brain around how it looks and consider stealing the idea. #LeadLAP

A6. We are using @Flipgrid, @Seesaw, having students vote on the wall decorations, and having them share their stories using our phone videos.
A6: This year we started “Adopt-A-Section” where students recruit a teacher and adopt a portion of the hallway. They are then responsible for creating a space that is educational, features student work, or is just fun. #LeadLAP
A6: just stood in the hallway @ a ballgame last night to receive a hug & the story of a 2017 grad who is making it! Wants help to set up life, outlined his ideas & asked if I’d “still help”! His voice rings loudly & of course my standard answer: Yes, help is what I do! #leadlap
SO many stories that break your heart. Even more reason to love on our kids and show them how important they are to US. Kindness keeps us going! #LeadLAP
A5- this is a tough one. My Ts seem reluctant to share. Provide time at PLC mtgs to share positives happening in class. Ts reluctant to connect on Twitter #Leadlap
A6: This year we started “Adopt-A-Section” where students recruit a teacher and adopt a portion of the hallway. They are then responsible for creating a space that is educational, features student work, or is just fun. #LeadLAP
Well after reading some other responses, I thought, oh yeah I do that too...so maybe I just couldn't think of any! Our staff is really amazing. Everyone supports everyone else! #prairiewaters#LeadLAP
A6: I listen. I don't share their stories often. They need to feel safe telling me. I'm transparent when it comes to myself not others. I want them to feel confident enough to share their story whenever they choose on their own. #LeadLAP
A6: Qualitative data from Student Forum 3 days a week influences team meetings and individual conversations. Students have some of the best ideas for our school #LeadLAP
A6: Using our responsive circle in the morning and teaching my kindergarten Ss the importance of really listening to each other. A parent of student that is moving shared that her child didn't want to leave our room because we are like a family. #LeadLAP
Thank you - I imagine it is simple, but getting things like this launched aren't always simple. I appreciate the willingness to provide me with a model/visual to consider! #LeadLAP
A6. Lunch with the Principal is a PBIS incentive this year, and I love using that time to listen to students’ stories. I use those stories to connect with them and help them feel valued when I see them outside of my office! #LeadLAP
A6 Seek student feedback routinely through both formal & informal channels. Last question is always variation of, "Anything else you want me to know while we're checking in?" #LeadLAP
A6- I talk with kids all the time and love hearing their stories and share as appropriate. I have also done some lunches with kids formally and informally to learn with them and get their perspective on things . I want to be more purposeful with this. #LeadLAP
A6: During my student teaching we had the class post SeeSaw videos each week on different opinion questions. Hoping to get to a place where I can find something similar to do with my class this semester. #LeadLAP
A6: S who is fighting depression was talking to me and stated I’m a pretty good admin. I’ll take that! S is going through rough stuff and still trying to learn and better self! #leadlap
A7: Making sure that books I read to students are filled with diverse characters. It has made so much more of a difference in their interest level. And it builds such empathy.
#LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
That is awesome! There isn't a day that goes by I don't have kids coming down to have lunch with me! Even when I'm away they come and eat in my office! #LeadLAP
A4: I’m currently reading Ready Player 1. My hubby and I read books together to help us connect because our jobs take a lot of our time. #KidsDeserveIt#LeadLAP
A4: Here is a look at my bookshelf. I am reading a little bit of a few of these books at a time. The most recent ones are #shiftthis#leadlap Genius Hour @mcnairan3 & #LearningByDoing
A7: I have found that my own empathy and my writing voice has grown dramatically from the amount of different literature I am now consuming. It's affected everything I do.
#LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
Thank you #leadlap and @TechNinjaTodd for the learning this morning! I truly appreciate all of the thinking! I have to tear myself away or I won't meet my Saturday obligations! Cheers!
Q7: I love using diverse characters and storylines because in my rural MO district, we aren't very diverse, but we do get a lot of military Ss and foreign exchange Ss, so expanding the world for my Ss is fun though sometimes hard work. :) #LeadLAP
A6- Being an ear to listen! Empathy is most important! This week's most difficult story was a student who's dad was arrested because of domestic violence. I also called the mom to see if she needed anything. Open up lines of communication with both S's and parents! #leadlap
A6: Give students time to share during Morning Meeting. I also take a lot of pictures and make collage boards so students can remember and reflect on their learning experiences. #LeadLAP
A7: Books like "I'm Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter", "One of Us is Lying", "Dear Martin", "The Hate U Give", and "Full Cicada Moon" were all so powerful

A6: There are so many stories, and I re-tell them to admin in order to spread understanding, to harness support for the S and myself, to advocate, and sometimes just to lessen my emotional load. #LeadLAP
A7: Oh I use many diverse characters both real and fictional constantly in my class. Shows it can happen to anyone and also open the door to culture and doors outside the classroom. #leadlap
A5b: It's also about asking the best questions. Here's one that @houstonkraft suggested that I love to use because it gives me a sneak peek into what they're thinking about! #leadlap
A7: All students deserve to see themselves in the stories they read, but they should see the perspectives of others in those stories. In the end, that truly allows our books to be windows into other experiences and mirrors for us to reflect on our own. #LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
A7: Brake the single story myth!
Read student and teachers stories that serve as mirrors and windows #leadlap
Here I’m reading: My Shoes and I

1916: Resta widened his #LeadLAP after lap and following Altken's withdrawal af ter the twentieth lap with a broken crankshaft, he maintained a steady pace https://t.co/VXZjXzc9lO
A7:This is something that I want to start doing! Showing my students that their Math/Science teacher values reading and makes time in class has been a HUGE benefit #LeadLAP
A7: I like now thinking to challenge teachers to share a colleagues success. Walk down the hall during planning to a different grade level and tweet out what you see in their room! Thinking of you 3rd grade friends at @RES_Roadrunners! #LeadLAP
Yes, many fear the public factor. Some have reasons but it is hard. I have been inspired and learned so much. Sometimes, it is what helps me believe I can do it! #LeadLAP
A7 Right as Q7 appeared, this article dropped in a neighboring Tweetdeck column: https://t.co/ce8OzesfoQ Stories have power to stretch our hearts, ears, eyes, empathy. #LeadLAP
Guess I’m wondering whatever happened to keeping separate accounts. Not ideal if everyone did that but certainly an option to make some more comfortable. #LeadLAP
A5: Does anyone have trouble getting their colleagues to use social media to make connections because they want to keep their social media separate from their work? You know escapism? #LeadLAP
A5 We share with each other and teachers use stories to help students in a variety of ways. I love the idea of having a shared blog to tell our stories. #LeadLAP
A7: In our kindness lessons, the story Those Shoes by Maribeth Boelts really resonated with our student population. They need to see examples of kindness that relate to their struggles to guide them in showing kindness to others. #LeadLAP
A6: Love “catching” them in random places asking their opinions on things-like at the water fountain yesterday- “What are you doing in SS class today?” Want to know what’s going on in your building ask your kids! If they don’t know...it’s not happening! #leadlap
A8: I want to leave surprises in different staff members rooms. Write anonymous notes. And call different staff members parents to celebrate them, without them knowing it's coming!
#LeadLAP#KidsDeserveIt
A8: Well @burgess_shelley and @BethHouf challenged me last week and I can't wait for Monday to surprise our staff! (Sorry its a secret - too many are on Twitter) #LeadLAP
A7: With my kindergarten Ss using books that teach a lesson. Team teaching with our school psych @JulieGB7 we have used lots of SEL books this year to model/grow student voice. My own voice is growing through my influx of professional reading this year! #LeadLAP
A8: Handwritten notes! We also do a "Thumbs Up Thursday" on morning announcements, to publicly celebrate a teacher who has stepped out and done something new! #LeadLAP
A8: I'm not going to tell you all here - cause a lot of teachers read my Twitter posts. You did just challenge me to put it on my calendar though!! #LeadLAP Thank you @TechNinjaTodd !!
you can definitely make two accounts but Ts need to know that nothing is private - just b/c you said something on your personal account doesn't mean you are not accountable. #LeadLAP

A7: By hearing what others have to say. By not hearing a single story or narrative of the world. I ask students if my classroom library represents who they are. If not, I get different books! #LeadLAP
A8: I'm a big fan of the hand-written note of thanks, encouragement, support and/or cheer. It's so uplifting to give and receive! I've shared this key before because it was one of my faves, to tape it on doors. #leadlap
A8- This week we're celebrating #NSCW18 at my school with all staff being able to wear their jeans and college gear each day of the week. I couldn't do my job without them and they deserve to be celebrated! It's all about SYNERGY! #LeadLAP
Thank you so much to the #LeadLAP crew for sharing incredible ideas today. Thank you @TechNinjaTodd for inspiring us with your Qs and the awesome book #StoriesFromWebb
I love this—do you get widespread participation? Do families and others attending school events or learning outside of school start using the hashtag too? #LeadLAP
A7: Purposeful use of diverse stories and characters can help make connections to others that build empathy. If you can see something of yourself in someone seemingly much different, much easier to follow the golden rule. #LeadLAP
A6 As we hear S stories, we work to dive under the surface to understand what drives a S. Many of our Ss have HARD stories. Maybe they need more support to help them reflect and heal. #LeadLAP
A8: Plan to promote others via school SM to showcase what awesomeness they are doing in classes. I support as many Ts as possible, & we also do a weekly S poll to honor a staff member who best demonstrates our collective commitment of the week. #LeadLAP
That moment is more than the consequence. It's an opportunity to teach and encourage. I find that students need to hear that they aren't defined by a bad choice - we've all made them. #Leadlap
A7:I am collaborating with our PE teacher to create a game that will help students understand immigration. It was interesting to hear his ancestral immigration story. It will be interesting to listen to kids via an opinion prompt. #LeadLAP
#LeadLAP A6.Last week, I read BJ's Big Dreams by @sonialeverette to students during morning bus duty! The Qs and As portion led to rich discussion which was wonderful. Reading about diverse characters is important for all Ss. I like to read to Ss about all types of characters.
