hi #teachnvchat friends! I'm Sara. I teach kindergarten in Lake Tahoe, NV and love talking ed stuff with my super smart and passionate about edvoice friend, @BDicksonNV!
Question 1 ESSA calls for states to develop plans that ensure all students have access to well-prepared and supported teachers- What do you envision when you hear this? give us some examples #teachNVchat
A1: Well supported teachers have access to instructional coaches, observe and support each other, new teachers are paired with mentors who are great models for effective teaching... #teachNVchat

This morning I was thinking if it stays this warm and dry down here, I might as well. It's not like I'll be skiing a lot .... If I do, it'll be the @race178 Leprechaun one. #teachnvchat
A1 I envision an overhaul of teacher prep programs, mentoring programs, and more support for new teachers. I also see revolutionary approach to modernizing teacher professional development where teachers are in the driving seat and or the presenters #teachNVchat

A1: My belied is just as every student deserves the best teacher teaching them-every teacher deserves the best teacher Teaching NEXT door to them! 😊. #teachNVchat

yes-PD that meets individual needs-like lessons that meet needs of students we need to create a balance of moving towards a shared vision but realizing we all have different paths to get there #teachNVchat
A1: educators with not just theoretical knowledge from books and coursework alone, but experience in the field w/a variety of demographics, economics, needs. #teachnvchat
A1: A plan that spans the entire teacher career continuum, from recruitment to teacher leadership. For example, @PADeptofEd is using Title II Part A $ to develop clinical experiences, target HS students & paras into the profession, better mentoring, induction, etc. #teachNVchat
A1: traditional pathways to teaching (practicums and student teaching) is incredibly valuable experience; on site mentors also key for those new T's in survival mode #teachNVchat
ABSOLUTELY. We need to put our egos aside and be excited by learning from the strengths of those around us. We also need to be willing to be vulnerable and let others see what we are doing-even when we aren’t perfect! #teachNVchat
I totally agree. I think well supported teachers have access to the PD that will best advance their teaching, which ultimately best helps their students! #teachnvchat
A1 cont.. I was lucky to have @BDicksonNV mentor me through my first year- don't know what I would have done without the support of that team #teachNVchat
A1. Strong pre-service training and go-teaching, mentoring and coaching for new teachers, supplies and technology to do our jobs in a 21st C world, PLCs. #teachnvchat
A1 agree 100% @SuprTekTalk access to relevant professional development as well as safe environment to try new things support from admin at school #TeachNVchat
Yes...and sometimes this means that PD isn’t an “event” - it is job embedded...drop in...leaders asking building experts to share what they are doing well. #teachNVchat
When I went back to the classroom I was hoping that would be the result of my evaluations - customized PD for areas I needed help with. I have different learning needs than the T next door #teacherdreams#teachNVchat
yes-PD that meets individual needs-like lessons that meet needs of students we need to create a balance of moving towards a shared vision but realizing we all have different paths to get there #teachNVchat
For sure! Some admin really know how to set up a supportive teaching environment and put a lot of trust into teachers of all experience levels #teachnvchat
A2 We must make all new teachers aware of that they need to address Maslow’s needs before blooms taxonomy, I’m talking about the whole child and social emotional learning with empathy at the center #teachNVchat

yes-more residency mindset would be better for all- I know my short experience in 4th grade student teaching did not prepare me to teach kindergarten-just saying #TeachNVchat
A2: High-quality residencies, fellowships, and induction programs – coupled with ongoing coaching and mentoring – can play a huge role in improving teacher recruitment, efficacy, and retention. #teachNVchat
A1 stay focused on why we teach helps us stay supported & well prepared when we learn the relationship matters first. PD will always be there in some form or another. #teachNVchat
I love the residency model that other professions have adopted and rely on. Wish educators were taken seriously enough to invest that kind of time and energy #teachnvchat
A2: Something focusing on trauma-informed teaching, cultural competency, maybe social issues. More training on project and service based learning. #teachnvchat
A2: Classes or training in: Classroom management, lots of pedagogy, #stem integration, PBL, classroom organization, family engagement, and I wish more programs included an assessment and curriculum writing course #teachNVchat
yeah it was but when you gotta eat you take what is offered-and I think it was the best thing ever-when I rule the eduniverse everyone will have to teach kindergarten at least once #teachNVchat
A2: I think it’s crucial that new teachers get connected with an experienced mentor, as well as other new teachers to gain a variety of perspectives. And to enjoy those silly, unstructured moments that bring a class togeteher #teachNVchat
A2: “How to create an environment where students feel cared for, take risks, and know their teacher believes they can meet the highest of expectations.” Is there a course like that 🤔🤔 #teachnvchat
A2 How to appreciate your toughest students make you a better teacher & sometimes you can’t reach them all, but you never give up on them. #teachnvchat

A3 we can use technology to google hangout or zoom or Skype into classes and do face to face chats to support during prep periods, checkins. Then when students are there. Like a doctor doing a home visit. #teachNVchat
YES! its hard work to write but when you understand the process you become a better consumer-plus when you know the rules you can break the rules #teachNVchat
We are looking as a TLC structure to make video clips of high impact strategies we are using and put on Google so all teachera have access to the support they may need. Also a friendly check in and chocolate always helps. #teachnvchat

I think having new teachers working and learning together is really important. @lintonrj was a new teacher mentor for a long time and worked well to build a strong, supportive community #teachnvchat
A3 There are Times is I’d like to knock down classroom walls and prop doors open so we get out of our silos and the “my way is best” mentality. #teachnvchat
A2 I wish I had an opportunity to observe teachers. It’s an amazing experience & it would have helped me had I had more opportunities & teachers to work with #teachNVchat
observing other teachers also builds your network-we need to be able to reach out to others in our profession for ideas and support-find your mentors #teachNVchat
