The first Twitter edchat in the Philippines, helping teachers grow their PLN, use tech in the classroom and promoting a culture of teachers helping teachers.
This shows the unnecessary stress many feel from society, culture, themselves. I'm sure you set him free and encouraged him once you saw how upset he was, Michael. #edchatPH

Ss are curious about their brains, as I teach effective learning strategies they say stuff like, "Oh yeah, I see how that helps me remember or why notifications make me forget." #edchatPH
Thank you so much for joining us! And a huge thanks to @LindaEdwardsi for co-moderating and creating all of the slides. Please follow one another and keep the insightful conversations going! #edchatph
I teach with a mastery grid #TheGridMethod in my Pre-Algebra. Everything happens in the class at the Ss pace. I can help them where they need it. Some work outside of class to get ahead, but it’s not required. #edchatph
A4. Researchers have long known that active parental involvement in Ss’ learning can help them stay engaged and ultimately improve their performance; thus create a systematic style of homework assignments that requires Ss to teach/share their work with their families. #edchatph
Thanks so much all and especially @Mrs_Gilchrist & @LindaEdwardsi for moderating a very hot debate & discussion on homework #edchatPH & just to finish off I think really a lot of kids feel this about homework!!
A3: I use homework as a form of practice, skills reinforcement and a window for parents to see what their child is doing and where they need support. I don’t use it as assessment. I prefer to assess while I’m with Ss! #edchatPH
Thank you @LindaEdwardsi and @Mrs_Gilchrist for leading this great discussion! Thank you to the #edchatPH PLN for allowing me to join you tonight, and share in the learning!
A3: - Part 2 - sadly, I’ve learned that while teaching in Japan and China that HW isn’t a reliable form of assessment cause sometimes parents do it for their children so their kid “looks good”! #edchatPH
A4: I’ve always loved #SharingThePlanet units of #Inquiry. I assign family projects that encourage Ss and their parents to take meaningful action! Take part in a park or beach cleanup. Research and support an NGO! Plant 🌱 pollinator friendly flowers! #edchatPH
Q4: Rather than a source of frustration and exclusion, how can we provide homework opportunities that encourage family engagement and help connect parents and students?
That’s why it’s so important to understand our individual Ss and know their schedules outside of school. Kids I’ve taught in that situation....don’t get HW from me! #edchatPH
