Q1: What is it important to bring authentic learning and real life applications to any classroom any subject?

A1: Education shouldn't all be a preparation for some intangible future. Must be relevant to Ss in the present.
A1: Authentic learning is important because it makes learning relevant to students. Give a purpose to what they are learning.

I like the word “authentic” much better than “relevant”. The number of things “relevant” to a 6-year old are pretty small.

A2(1) Any grade level! Once you bring applications, students listen and see importance! I am studying to be a teacher!
A2 We run a sustainability project throuhout K-6 each POD focus on aspect - Yr 5 conservation project for an endangered species
A2) Definitely need to have students connecting with other classes.

Q3: What can be used/done in different subject areas to make the learning real? (i.e. ELA, SS, Sci, Math, Electives....etc.)
that's the key there emphasis on the how, developing skills on how we learn, how we think and how we problem solve

Or if traveling in an airplane a long distance a 1 or 2 degree course error grows with distance
A3: Read your Grant Wiggins. Build assessment that is close to what real people in the field do. Plan backwards from that.

We just made hot air balloons in Chemistry and then did a flight analysis to determine changes that needed to be made.

A4: My favorite is KidBlog. Ss can create blogs to share their learning and interact with each other.
A4: Wordpress is my go-to for Ss publishing their work. But many handwrite beautiful poems and illuminate them a la Blake, too.

5b there are avenues for very young Ss to share online but we need to ensure we are teaching digital citizenship and safety
A5b pictures and some audio recordings could be as early as K. Any video 2nd grade

or shared with those they select

A6. I need to guide/help more teachers to let go of the control and let the students help be creators of their learning.
Q5b: Increasing awareness! Students are surrounded with tools! The sooner they know how to safely use these, the better!
