Tonight’s conversation will be hosted by @cristama. Be looking for Qs coming from @cristama to join in. It is ALWAYS helpful to retweet the question. #MTedchat
I completely agree, @cristama! We talk about technologies as tools and practices that groups and individuals use - can be hammers to stairs to the alphabet to the scientific method #MTedchat#EDU370
A1) I have to say the Google Slides and Microsoft Publisher are my two go to creation spaces. Slides=easy collaboration Publisher= flexible platform for charts, newsletter etc #Mtedchat
A1: my favorite tool for curating student content is doing labs. Students get to analyze their results and then apply what they know to explain why 'it' happened
#MTedchat
A1 One of my absolute favorite resources is Teachers Pay Teachers. I love that we can find things to use in our classrooms while also giving back to our fellow teachers. #MTEdchat
Hi I am Molly. I am currently studying elementary education at the University of Montana Western. I’m excited to experience this ed chat today! #MTedchat
A1: I love Padlet - especially when all students add to a class board, then I 'make a copy' for groups/individuals to trim down and curate according to their inquiry #MTedchat
A1: I believe observing the needs of my students is critical in creating content. Teachers must know where a student is at and where they need to go for successful learning. #MTedchat
A1: Some of my favorite tools for curating are @diigo@flipboard@pinterest and Google Keep...For creating... Totally depends on the purpose, but Google Drawings, and Photo Mosaic App, iMovie, @Flipgrid, @seesaw#MTedchat
Yes!!! I LOVE Google Slides... Combined with some graphics from Snapchat too!! I don't do much with Publisher, but I do use most any kind of publication tool I can find on the web. #mtedchat
A1) I have to say the Google Slides and Microsoft Publisher are my two go to creation spaces. Slides=easy collaboration Publisher= flexible platform for charts, newsletter etc #Mtedchat
A1: being an Apple ConnectEd school, I am all about all the free tools and resources from Apple for iPads, iPhones and MacBooks. And when all else fails, my favorite tool is a good book read aloud to and discussed with students. #indefenseofthereadaloud#MTedchat
A1: As a students and as a future educator I like using Google docs, because my stuff automatically saves, I can pull it up anywhere when needed and I can share ideas with other teachers. #MTedchat
A1: Call me old fashioned, but I also like word processors. Nothing beats giving students a variety of problems from recall, to application in familiar and then unfamiliar contexts.
#mtedchat
Absolutely... Each student will be drawn to different ways to show their thinking. It is our job to honor that, use it, and support students as they move beyond their comfort zone. #mtedchat
I like to use Google Slides or Prezi! I also really enjoy searching through Pinterest and Teachers Pay Teachers for more creative ideas! #MTedchat#EDU370
I like Canva but I find Google slides easier to use. Plus, I learned how to save a slide as a jpeg which makes it easy to use on social media! #mtedchat
In reply to
@carmelhealth, @AngelaStockman, @canva
Sure! Feedly is a great place to curate blog content. I subscribe to my favorites and read in one place. https://t.co/UA35eV7hgX and Canva is a wonderful graphic design tool. Drag and drop. https://t.co/bRKWfqqDSZ#MTedchat
A2) This is the first year I do not have a behavior chart on the wall! I use my routine, morning meeting, and model, model model. Also have quiet zone, think time strategies. #mtedchat#SEL
well that's pretty impressive, imo. I think curriculum should be designed as close to the students as possible. do teachers collaborate and share stuff/ideas in your district? #MTedchat
A2: classroom management is where I go completely offline: my favorite tools are learning stations, clock buddies, and inquiry journals (where students keep track of what they're doing and what they're learning from it) #MTedchat
Sweet!! This one is new to me: Answer Garden https://t.co/OB1zeFj1ad (Twitter chat tip... If you can, include the web link or tag the source like '@padlet' when you can. Then everyone can click and explore!! #mtedchat
Last year when I switched to 4th grade, I would spend HOURS searching for a meaningful lesson for the next day, then do it all over for the next day, and so on. It was terrible! #MTedchat

A2: To help students with organization, I require them to follow my format for notetaking. For behavior management, I have found that along with being consistent, being clear is of paramount importance.
Ex: "3, 2, 1, stop." "When I say stop, what should you do?"
#mtedchat
#MTedchat
I Like the behavior wall the most as a student in elementary school it was a great incentive for me to go home and tell my parents that I got a green card for the day.
A2)b) that being said, I would like to start playing with @SeeSaw as a way to build a portfolio of learning where students 'capture and annotate' audio/video/images --> would love to talk more with folks already doing this #MTedchat
I began using @SeeSaw this year. My Ss add to it multiple times a day. My goal is to start responding to their posts to their journals on a regular basis! #MTEdChat
A2: My favorite tools for schoolwide/classroom behavior currently is Google Forms. created one where I input all office referrals so they feed to a Sheet where I can quickly and easily identify trends in the day or across the year. I have done the same for attendance #mtedchat
A2 we create a social contract based on a training I had with Capturing Kids’ Hearts. Our entire management piece revolves around our social contractwhixy the kids create and sign off on. #MTedchat
A2: For my own tracking, I love @trello! So useful for tracking and note taking. It is a convenient, easy place for me to keep information that I might need to refer back to later. #mtedchat
How equitable do you feel about it as an educator? What about the kids who have a red card at the end of every day? Has your perspective changed since u used as a Ss? #mtedchat
A2 We use @CanvasLMS for sharing and receiving assignments on iPads. Grading is easy. #MTedchat
When I compare how much paper I used early in my career compared to today’s paperless classroom. It’s amazing. #MTedchat
I wonder if anybody on #MTedchat uses @WorkFlowy ? it is one of my favorites. Especially the sharing component (and they actually print well on paper too)
Yes!!! These consistent routines are the most powerful tool. Students learn quickly what the expectations are and redirects are timely and efficient. #mtedchat (no tech necessary ;)

Ex: "3, 2, 1, stop." "When I say stop, what should you do?"
#mtedchat
Some of my favorite tools for classroom management include giving Ss specific jobs to do throughout the day teaching them responsibility! I also like the idea of getting into routines, so students can be prepared for what we do. #MTedchat#EDU370
We use @ClassDojo as well - school wide to give positives for our school-wide teams we have. Only positive; can't take points away. Teams "compete" to have most points at end of trimester. Bragging rights! #MTedchat
I can see how that might be a struggle. :-(
Interesting that I also hear from others how frustrating it is to not have any control over curriculum. I wonder what the happy medium would be. #MTedchat
A2: Consistent, specific expectations schoolwide through MBI practices for behavior. Intervening with conversation and opportunity to fix behavior before assigning a consequence. Looking into restorative practices after awesome session at #mtprincipals19 conference #MTedchat

A3: Every lesson plan I’ve created has been from a professors template! I’m excited to see others’ answers for my future curriculum planning. #MTedchat
Now that is an interesting thought! It is frustrating to not have a say, but having to find ALL the material yourself is incredibly time consuming. Fun and creative, but I spent a ridiculous amount of time to create science lessons and units for my classroom. #MTedchat
I agree... I've seen it miss-used, very publicly... When used as part of a positive behavior culture it can be very powerful and effective... #mtedchat
A3) This is where I am techless! I still use a paper planner, I write down the topics I need to teach and make a list of what I need to prep after I plan. I schedule my planning into my week, too. #mtedchat
Q3: Some of my favorite tools thus far are good old fashioned Microsoft Word and OPI. I also love TPT and Pinterest for when I am trying to find fun activities. #MTEdChat
A3: I love drawing all over a huge whiteboard or down a roll of brown craft paper. Then great conversations with people about what I've mapped out. THEN I move to Google Docs and Google Slides. I need to see the 'big picture' first! #MTedchat
A3: Every lesson plan I’ve created has been from a professor’s template! I’m excited to see others’ answers for my future curriculum planning. #MTedchat
A3) I have a lot of teachers using @planbookcom - the paid version brings even more opportunities on board but everything can be put right there (link for video, like to Google Doc, @padlet , etc). #MTedchat
A3: I absolutely love Google Sheets for Lesson Planning and Unit/Yearlong Pacing... I can quickly adjust, make changes, reorganize, etc. #mtedchat I also use the backward design model for planning. What do we want/need at the end? How do we get there.
A3) I like the idea behind TES Teach with Blendspace but it seems to have gotten finicky in the last year or so - if anyone has found a better tool I'd love to know about it #MTedchat
As an educator I think that it is fair if the teacher can be consistent with the classroom rules. Those students that pull red card might feel bad about it but the discipline can be minute (Ex: Remain after class for 30 min) #MTedchat
A3: I use TPT often when I am looking for a particular skill/ subject and want something new. I like finding new activities and changing it up. We also do a year long pacing calendar to help keep us on track for the year. #MTEdChat
A3: For lesson planning, as of right now, I like google slides because you can create calendar type looking lesson plans, with different template options. That may change later on:) #MTedchat
I disagree. As someone who has used behavior charts, I do not see this as equitable. Behavior is communication. What is the Ss communicating about? Address the root of issue instead of punitive consequence. #mtedchat
A3: Every lesson I have made always starts on google doc or google slides. There are so many ways to plan on these! I also use pinterest as inspiration for lessons! #MTedchat
I also do a lot of co-planning with my students. GDocs makes this easy (co-constructing calendars, for example, or drafting project overview sheets together). I'm also working on how to coordinate student-created reading plans + ongoing EdCafe conversations #someday#mtedchat
A3. I like to brainstorm ideas and write/type it all down! Before I can organize my lesson, I need to know what all I am going to cover. When I get stumped, I turn to the web or Pinterest to hopefully sparks some ideas! #MTedchat#EDU370
I agree that we should have one standard for all Ss. However, meeting those standards may LOOK different for some students. Ex: Ss who is a verbal processor talks all the time. Give them a whisper phone to talk-less disruption, honors their style, win/win. #mtedchat
A4: Again google docs, emails, Facebook, other types of chats. For students, the first graders I work with use Seesaw. It is such an awesome app to get the students and parents involved! #MTedchat
A4: For our school, accessing phones is an issue due to limited coverage area, etc. We use Facebook a TON for sharing images, events, etc. https://t.co/skvSgNONFb We do a monthly newsletter, and lots of home visits ;) We also have a monthly family evening event. #mtedchat
A4: My favourite tools for communicating with/to students, parents, colleagues and the community are my WordPress blog, our weekly email (love mailchimp - parents can sign up or unsubscribe), Google Classroom and Good old fashion phone calls! I don't love email. 😁 #MTedchat
A4: I send a School Newsletter to staff every Sunday, share lots of school wide info for the community on Facebook and we are releasing a school app soon! Email is good for daily communication with staff and students as well. Several of our teachers use @Seesaw#MTedchat
A2: I like the behavior systems. The clip up or clip down, without keeping track of points though. It is simple but so beneficial for students to realize they need to get back on track. #MTedchat
I hope to teach somewhere around 5th grade. I'm not saying to avoid the root of the problem, either meeting with the student or with parent(s) when it is needed. with any luck I can hope to make those positive relationships that the students need.
#MTedchat
Behavior management is the one area that I can say I have grown the most, especially in my mindset. I started with a clip chart like this and have since moved far away from it. #mtedchat
So long as they move up and down and it's a fluid process of recovery - restorative practices taught and conversations always had. If it's a quick, clip down without interaction (from both T & S), all the reflection is left up to a 5-11 yr old. Uh oh. #MTedchat
A4) Love @Seesaw and/or @RemindHQ for communicating with parents. Getting our message out to ALL stakeholders (kids, parents, grandparents, community, etc) then I love @facebook ! Most of our population is there already. Meet them where they're at. #MTedchat
A4. I would like to explore Seesaw, ClassDojo, and Google Classroom to communicate students, parents, colleagues etc! I also think sending home a weekly letter is a good idea so parents know what their children are doing! #MTedchat#EDU370
A5 My favorite is podcasting at the end of a long unit or at the end of the semester. Take the best written material, refine that into a script, record and share with peers and future students.
https://t.co/1BwBEMda12#MTedchat
Yes. Last year due to my class circumstances, I tried every clipchart known to man, even if it went against what I wanted. What I learned is why I naturally moved away from beh. management systems like this. #MTEdChat
A5: I love using Google Sites to create digital portfolios for each student. Grades 3+ they are able to edit and add to their own easily. Prior to Grade 3, I LOVE @Seesaw (I love it for all grades). Google Forms/Sheets is a great way to draw data into one place #mtedchat
A5) One of my favs from was a lg. poster with squares that fit the standard 3x3 (?) post-it notes on it -used for exit typically. Ss class # on it for quick view of who had done it or still needed to. Used for 3 sentence response to reading, connection, math, u name it. #MTedchat
Out of all of those, the weekly, simple newsletter was always most appreciated. We had a class website (Google Site) that included a blog... We used that as a window to the classroom ;) #mtedchat
A5: The best formative assessment I have found, is meeting the kids in the hall and greeting them as they come in...What is their demeanor? Are they wearing the same clothes every day? Listen to answers when you ask, "How are you today?" #MTedchat (Take notes...it is important)

Western students, I'm curious... Who is your teacher at the university asking you to participate?? I want to thank them... THANK YOU, for participating... Your voices mean so much. #MTedchat
A5: I think portfolio work is an excellent tactic because it provides evidence for assigned grades, especially when students create the portfolio themselves and include reflections on their work. #MTedchat
Q6: Some of my new favorite tools are medium and hopscotch. Hopscotch is a COPPA approved application that incorporates art into student coding. #MTedchat
A3: I used a spreadsheet to track my lessons and standards taught throughout a school year. Having a way to see what was covered and when to repeat was important. #MTedchat
A6) @cristama already hinted to it at the end of her response with meeting in hall/greeting - ANECDOTAL NOTES were always my favorite. Watch, listen, reflect, question, listen again, and note response for future planning or data collection. #MTedchat
A6: I am a huge fan of What's Going on in this Graph by the New York Times. It is cross-curricular, has led to some amazing discussion, and can be discussed at various levels. It's hard to find a tool that so seamlessly integrates math into real life! #MTedchat
A6: Mind maps with plenty of curious questions always help when students don’t know where to start. I say grab a pencil and paper and get writing! #MTedchat
If you get some sheets, documents, etc. figured out, please share! Get it perfected first (LOL!). #MTedchat Lucky you have some flexibility that way...our tool is lock step. #MTedchat
And @Seesaw allows you to photograph it all, store it year to year (moves up grades with kids). With a school-wide subscription, you can tag standards and use a standards based tool for that as well. #awesome#MTedchat
A6 I’ll give a shout out to the @calm app. Educators get FREE access to the premium package. AMAZING mindfulness music and meditations. Perfect for managing your stress. Your students will love it too.
