See you then!
A1: student-centered learning that combines face to face teacher instruction with at least some online & some some control over the time, place, path/pace of their learning. #satchat

A1. An effective blended learning environment includes interactive activities in the classroom that allow for practical and relevant implementation of topics and concepts that students learn through digital resources. #satchat
A1: An effective blended learning environment is one where tools have a purpose, student learning is the primary focus, and there is digital balance #satchat
A1: Grounded in a solid curricular foundation a la #UbD; strong T facilitation; vetted engaging and rigorous digital tools; students able to work at their own pace; focused on mastery--but, most of all, #joyfullearning#satchat
A1: Blended learning should take advantage of the strengths of both environments. It should offer students a safe way to participate, and it should provide a means for teacher feedback. #satchat
Happy weekend #satchat! Randi from north Georgia (where the sun is FINALLY shining!) here. A little late to the fun this morning, but excited to learn more about blended learning!
#satchat Transitioning with ease from collaborating or designing with tech to the real-life hands on experience~ it is about being comfortable with the tools one uses
A1: an effective blended learning environment has clear student expectations and provides student many opportunities to collaborate with one another #satchat
A1: BL allows Ss to take ownership of pace, place, depth of learning.. There should be an intentional integration of tech, small group, and 1-1 with T so that each S gets exactly what he/she needs #satchat
A1. Seamless integration of digital tech & traditional classroom activity. Using the SAMR model, tech should almost act like a digital prosthetic, forging new connections & allowing students the opportunity to redefine tasks that would previously have been impossible. #satchat
A1: A good mix of teacher directed instruction with effective, targeted use of online tools to support the learning. Ss voice and choice are intertwined. #satchat
A1: procedures and expectations well laid out and demonstrated. E.g. synchronous vs asynchronous, how to use the chosen platform, contribute to discussions, and submit work. #satchat
A1: In an effective blended learning enivro learners will connect e-learning to their own life purpose and they'll use knowledge & skills from e-learning to address real world, hands-on problems #satchat
A1 My Blended Learning page https://t.co/e6PC4tnutT My daughter teaches classes on the college level. She prefers teaching the blended approach to being totally online as she needs that in person class connection with her students. #satchat
A1: Blended learning should take advantage of the strengths of both environments. It should offer students a safe way to participate, and it should provide a means for teacher feedback. #satchat
A1 A blended learning environment allows students to use tech to take control of their learning in & out of the classroom. Reinforces Ts role of being a guide on the side. #satchat
A1: Effective blended learning: In class time spent on rigorous learning with teacher scaffolds where needed, S’s independent online time (in/out of class) is differentiated by need, interest, learning modality, etc. #satchat
A1 My Blended Learning page https://t.co/e6PC4tnutT My daughter teaches classes on the college level. She prefers teaching the blended approach to being totally online as she needs that in person class connection with her students. #satchat
A1: Reasonably happy children who know where food comes from, how to use Boolean search symbols, where poop goes, fear covert monitoring, and still want to run out the door when the last bell rings. #satchat
A1 I’m fresh out finishing the Future Ready application, so I’m set for this question! Effective blended learning is not a substitute 4 paper, but the Ss are able to apply their learning in ways that weren’t an option before. #satchat
A1: I also appreciate @LearningAccel 's definition of high quality blended learning—"strategic integration of in-person learning with technology to enable real-time data use, personalized instruction, and mastery-based progression" https://t.co/EGfbNFN4G0#satchat HT @BethRabbitt
A1: The best blended learning capitalizes on both variables--the importance of the relationships Ss have with Ts and the power of using technology in instruction #satchat
A1: I also appreciate @LearningAccel 's definition of high quality blended learning—"strategic integration of in-person learning with technology to enable real-time data use, personalized instruction, and mastery-based progression" https://t.co/EGfbNFN4G0#satchat HT @BethRabbitt

I’ve spent basically my entire life unhappy with how I looked, I always felt disgusting and had zero confidence... But that all changed when I discovered this combo! My friends can’t believe I look this good and tbh neither can I. The link is in my bio if you want to try!#satchat
A1: effectiveness of blended learning should be reached throughout an great variety of different parts of digital and analog learning offers which are well coordinated - must be like a gearing mechanism. #satchat
A1) Blended Learning = Learning that takes place in different ways, resources that can be used to promote and enhance learning are used in a way that cater to student strengths #satchat
Razan al-Najjar was MURDERED. Her bloodied medical vest bares a bullet hole FROM BEHIND. Meaning she was facing away from the Israeli soldiers and they shot her.
They knew who she was. #JewishResistance#BDS#satchat#BlackLivesMatter

A1: A balance of online and face-to-face learning environments...both can be powerful (offering flexibility, variety, connectedness, an openness to different learning styles) along with the learning leaders supporting them! #satchat
I have not personally experienced many. My son completed a flex model in summer school. Three days in, he had completed Algebra 1 with an A, We were not certain of what he gained through that model. I have monitored online learning which for some was great, but not all #satchat
A1: #satchat In blended learning digital experience isn't better than f2f, instead it is a melding of digital spaces with real-life experience in support of expanding one's thinking
A2. Any digital resource that's a part of blended learning should ask questions that students solve themselves. The answers to those questions must apply to the classroom so that peers can learn something they missed out on. #satchat
A2: Both online and in person should be active. Students should feel like they are part of a group even when sitting at home, and there should be a teacher presence. I think online learning too easily falls into watching videos and the occasional post to a chat. #satchat
A2: You create Ss engagement by valuing Ss voice, providing them with choice/options in the ways they can demonstrate their learning! #satchat Online tools allow this to happen!
A1-Good Morning. Alan Long from Georgia! Blended learning is using methods that work best traditional digital flipped or other methods innovated by teachers which is the strength of blended models. Makes for strong engagement!#satchat
Q2: To create an *engaging* blended learning enviro: let learners choose; infuse learner interest, passion & curiosity; and differentiate to needs #satchat
A2 Learning about the philosophical differences between pedagogy and andragogy can help! Do you want to “lead children” (pedagogy) or do you truly feel each child can contribute and you can serve simply as the “leader of people” (andragogy) #satchat
A1 usesinteractive strategies both F2F & virtually that create collaborative discussion, problem/project focus, accessibility tools are available and supported, T builds relationships and creates opportunities to integrate student interests, assessment is personalized #satchat
A2. One of my favorite blended learning ideas is what I call #QRBreakIN. Think old school centers as a team relay race - like a REVERSE escape room. Student groups work asynchronously using tech & traditional activities to “break IN” to content. #satchathttps://t.co/9YB7J1lCpw
so lets get somethings straight it is ok for liberal Joy Reid to post hateful crap towards republicans and jews but not ok for Roseanne to say stuff about blacks. liberals can call Ivanka Trump a cunt but Roseanne cant call Clinton a cunt. yep no double standards there at all
A2: know your students, identify their interests and passions, know their strengths and areas of growth. Incorporate strategies into lessons and stations #satchat
A2: You create Ss engagement by valuing Ss voice, providing them with choice/options in the ways they can demonstrate their learning! #satchat Online tools allow this to happen!
A2 You have Ss helps create the environment and decide what type of blended learning options they want. S voice and choice is so important when you want engagement and buy in! #satchat
A2: Creating engaging blended learning environ requires much upfront work from the T. Gathering resources, determining workflow, planning for assessment, communicating with admin and parents…all important. #satchat
A1: Take into consideration entry points and the learning spectrum of the content for Ss and how they can best interact, learn & capture and create (and within that time frame) #satchat
A1: An effective blended learning environment is one where both the teacher and the students know which tools fits best, there is flexibility in choice, and pacing is designed with student input. #satchat
A2: An effective, engaging blended learning environment needs a strong and knowledgeable teacher with solid curriculum, technological knowledge and a strong technology infrastructure with differentiated devices #satchat
A2: provide interesting materials and real-world connections...students love to see the major connections between learning and their everyday life #satchat
A2 Know the students well enough to design lessons that meet a variety of needs at a variety of learning levels then offer the students the choice of how to show what they know and can do. #satchat
A2 my blended class is centered around a gamified system of engagement and feedback loops with a centralized narrative. I write about my class at https://t.co/4GYFrLQPOX#satchat
A2: #SatChat Engagement happens with collaboration and action...present projects where the students have the need to explore together through research and investigation followed by production
A2: Just like any effective env't. You've got to start with the vision for the class, including the S's to create. Motivate your S's, then move into what you'll use and the physical env't based on the model you choose. #satchat S's learning always in the center!
A2: For Ss to be engaged they need to understand the purpose, they need to contribute to the design - Try incorporating their feedback into your plans and watch what happens #satchat
A2: Never be afraid to take the risk and involve student voice to influence this process. Those impacted most should have a say in what such an environment can...should...will look like! #satchat
A2: first of all you have 2know your learners and their needs. Then you can choose the suitable materials, tasks & #tools. There should be always the opportunities for students to choose from a great selection of different levels. Don't forget to integrate #gamification#satchat
Love to give my students the essential questions and learning goals, then ask them how they want to get there. Ss naturally create a blended learning pathway #satchat
A1: blending learning is something similar to the 3D leadership model we’ve been working on: https://t.co/MFoOw1YbQr
Leaders develop face to face (1st dimension)
Leaders develop digitally (2nd)
Leaders can integrate both and know when to use them (3rd)

#Kili4Kidshttps://t.co/gXUojs5oPT
A2: Don't let the technology drive the decision making in the lesson, let the students do it. Allow for voice and choice. Technology should be the tool. Let the instructional practices and academic outcomes drive what tech to use! #satchat
A2: Key is having specific purpose that Ss are aware of. No matter how cool/flashy/engaging etc.. if the Ss don't know WHY they're doing it, there's no buy in. #satchat
A2: Ts should set the foundation, clarify the expectations, provide Ss choice in process and product, and be ready to provide support as they watch how far and how deep their Ss can take their learning using digital resources and media. #satchat
A2: We have used Learning Walks (teachers visiting teachers) to support and create a school wide engaging blended learning environment so that we can learn from each other. It was our first full year with 1:1. #satchat
A2: An engaging blended learning environment is created when students have choice, authentic tasks, and are involved in collaborative problem solving. #satchat
I love how much we learn by chatting with each other! We need to make sure we provide opportunities for our students to do the same. Maybe we could call it... blending learning. #satchat
Joy Reid: It Was A ‘Hell Of An Idea’ To ‘Send Laura Ingraham And Ann Coulter To Iraq, Put Them In Public Square And Leave Them There’ https://t.co/B6I0IyilaF via @dailycaller
A2: you’ve got assess where Ss are at. If they are more competent digitally, spending time pushing them face to face. If they are more competent face to face, pushing them digitally. #satchat
Choice is HUGE! I gave my Ss choice on their final project while other Ts gave specific topics. Guess which projects the Ss put more effort into. Difference was night and day. #satchat
Agreed. In fact, we're building out our tech so that we have variety. ie, primarily Apple, but building in some Chromebooks next year. Gives teachers more tech options to better support curriculum & wider range of student needs #satchat
A3. Many educators believe that face to face interaction and communication is necessary for providing students with cues to approach learning for specific topics. Blended learning does not emphasize on that aspect, and that's certainly an obstacle needed to be overcome. #satchat
A2: Seems like learning that is well matched to students interests *and* what they need to learn is important for effective blended learning practice. One size fits all digital assignments probably don’t enhance learning much. #satchat
A3: Biggest challenge is still getting Ss to do work outside of the classroom. They still have to do their part. That's where importance of engagement comes in. #satchat
A3: student access to technology away from school and ensuring clear directions/expectations are made so students can become independent learners #satchat
Q3: Blended learning challenges—Educators need training + real-world examples of blended & personalized learning strategies at work. Also, the following conditions for scale must be true (image via @LearningAccel) #satchat
I like it when Ts allow Ss to look at the curriculum, choose their own learning targets & design a project & explain how it will show mastery of the targets #satchat
A3: Access to technology at home can be a challenge, as well as getting students (and teachers!) used to the way things work in a blended learning environment. #satchat
.@RealCandaceO: “It cannot be overstated what this president has done for the black community, the hope that he is inspiring, the economic growth that he has inspired.”
A3: One of the biggest challenges is letting go of how we've always done things! The freedom for teachers to set up learning differently must come from school and district leaders who embrace noise, activity, letting students grapple with rigorous work #satchat@scottholcomb91
A2 have found that strong station work for students is successful but student success and assessment drive this blended learning. Relationships are key and empower Ss with their learning. #satchat
A2: Ts must know their Ss in order to provide choices that will interest, inspire, and motivate them to learn. If Ts provide Ss with the opportunity to share their voice, then Ss will be more invested in the learning as well. It’s all about knowing your Ss!!!! #satchat
A3: For some of our Ss, they have more support at home to continue the learning beyond the classroom. For others, the classroom is the only place they experience it. #satchat
A3 Having the technology or enough of the technology available can be a challenge. Also making sure that Ss know how to use the tech correctly for the intended purpose. #satchat
A3: with new #edtech tools constantly emerging, we can get lost trying to always use the shiniest new device, app, etc. and the focus on the instructional strategy gets lost #boldschool#satchat Technology is a tool, not an instructional strategy @Wes_Kieschnick
A3 Appropriate use of tech, access to tech in and beyond the classroom, buy-in in the school and in the home. All things that can be managed through clear & consistent communication and strong planning #satchat
I can picture the physical env't and flow, I think it's the organization of the "Game" built into the daily routines that I wish I could see in person. #Satchat
A3: A challenge for blended learning is providing access for home components when students do not have that option. But, it’s solved by knowing your students and using their ideas to work around it. #satchat
Give students a broad topic. Generate research questions for the topic and let them go. Did this with a research class using psychiatry as a topic. The results were awesome.#satchat
Don I think you are 100% right #Satchat would be a Blended Learning environment! Stay tuned we might be adding to the conversation with @participate during this Summer!
A3: #SatChat Some challenges of Blended Learning: School Infra structure, lack of a variety of digital tools, home internet connections, classroom design
Isaiah 41:13
'For I hold you by your right hand— I, the Lord your God.
And I say to you, "Don’t be afraid. I am here to help you."'
#Jesus#SaturdayMorning#satchat
A3: One of the greatest challenges can be a fixed mindset on the part of some of us...we cannot deny the reality of ever-changing learning spaces...just as we want our students to possess an openness to learning, we need to expect the same of ourselves. #satchat
A3: One of the biggest challenges is letting go of how we've always done things! The freedom for teachers to set up learning differently must come from school and district leaders who embrace noise, activity, letting students grapple with rigorous work #satchat@scottholcomb91
"T's not knowing where to start" is so important for admin to understand. Doesn't matter what we want our Ts to accomplish, we have to know where they are. We need to differentiate for the Ts & get them into other Ts rooms to observe HOW to start. #satchat
A3 the biggest chalenge I've seen in that most students still believe that "teaching" means standing in front lecturing and "learning" meanings mindlessly taking notes. It was 1 of the biggest reflection points I got this year #satchathttps://t.co/mOiQiViA5k
A2) working with strong curriculum that provides opportunity for students to have choice in how they can learn and apply that learning in different ways #satchat
Students who are new to blended learning might seek more teacher guidance than they really need. Especially at our elem & middle school levels. Need to help students feel both supported and empowered. #satchat
A3: One of the biggest challenges is letting go of how we've always done things! The freedom for teachers to set up learning differently must come from school and district leaders who embrace noise, activity, letting students grapple with rigorous work #satchat@scottholcomb91
A2 digital learning and using the flipped classroom can really enhance the blended learning. Invite conversations and continued engagement when closing the lesson. Strength of teachers is innovation! #satchat
A3: A challenge I often see is premature launch. Folks hear about “blended learning” and rush to implement without making time to understand the very real differences in pedagogy between F2F and virtual/online teaching #satchat
#satchat A1. The characteristics of a blended learning environment includes F2F instruction paired w/ online instruction. It fosters S2S Collaboration, S agency, and S choice/voice.
A2: #SatChat Engagement happens with collaboration and action...present projects where the students have the need to explore together through research and investigation followed by production
A3: Blended learning challenges: equity of home internet access, requires strong self-regulation on part of the student for independent portion, requires intentional community-building & alternate plans for tech glitches. Challenging to scale up from single teachers. #satchat
A3. Not all students / student groups learn at the same pace, so you’ll need to build in enough “flexibility” in lessons to scaffold and differentiate on the fly. Google Forms with minimum submission lengths using the “RESPONSE VALIDATION” can be a great gatekeeper. #satchat
A3 Challenges to blended learning are both reaching every students’ needs along with engagement in learning throughout the experience. Well designed lessons can minimize those struggles but there are always ‘off days’ for Ts and Ss #satchat
I agree with that. I guess I was focused on the Ss that make the choice not to. Ts need to know who actually can't do the work outside the classroom and make adjustments when/if possible. #satchat
A3: One of the greatest challenges can be a fixed mindset on the part of some of us...we cannot deny the reality of ever-changing learning spaces...just as we want our students to possess an openness to learning, we need to expect the same of ourselves. #satchat
A3: Teachers selected what ISTE standards they wanted to learn about throughout the year in breakout sessions to support BL. The Learning Walks helped them see it in action. We shared our learning with ASCD NY https://t.co/BSSikPvZok? #satchat
A3: In a #blendedlearning environment, keep the focus on learning the content or developing skills, and don't be too distracted with the technology, gadgets or media. #satchat
A3: A few:
a) Too much about marketing/profit
b) Privacy, cookies, user profiling, and all that dark "conspiracy" stuff that, um, is too real
c) Promotes dopamine addiction
d) Access
e) Curriculum matters, no matter the medium
#satchat
A3: Placing too much emphasis on the technology and thinking that all kids are digital natives. Blended learning takes time to gain an understanding of it's purpose and goal. Getting everyone one the same page so that instructional outcomes are consistent. #satchat
A3: One of the biggest challenges is letting go of how we've always done things! The freedom for teachers to set up learning differently must come from school and district leaders who embrace noise, activity, letting students grapple with rigorous work #satchat@scottholcomb91
Transitioned from classroom to faculty coaching this year. Found blended learning to be much more challenging in the adult-learner setting. Had to go "slideshow-free" to get us all past the sit-and-get format #satchat
A3 Blended learning challenges: It’s organized chaos & not as neat & packaged as direct instruction lessons, BUT students will own it & remember. This benefit makes it worth it #satchat
#satchat A2. To create an engaging BL environment, deep consideration of the learners and how to personalize learning for each of them. Plenty of front loading of lesson content.
A3: My biggest challenge is to balance time, pacing, and Ss learning. It can be hard to keep middle schoolers on track and focused sometimes. Shocking I know #satchat
A3 moving from low levels of SAMR to high - figuring out how to create interactivity and relationships that are seamless from F2F to online - creating/infusing context for learning vs being a content focus #SatChat
A3) an unwillingness to change (fixed mindset), limited access to resources (not everyone has a 1:1 initiative going on or working computer labs at their fingertips), and of course, the almighty 💵💰 #satchat
#satchat

A3-student based decision making. Have students totally involved in their learning and keep them there. Teacher training is a key and a big challenge is teacher buy in and flexibility. Give up the starring role in the classroom! #satchat
That's a pretty lengthy discussion. @mrmatera and @MatthewFarber have written books on it... Here are some podcasts I've done discussing it... I think of it as a sort of live action role playing game. #satchathttps://t.co/D0diyfpc8h

A4. Equitable access can be ensured by keeping in mind the minimum amount of available resource with a student, technologically and economically. Materials shall then be designed so that each student can use them effectively and easily, without glitches. #satchat
Ben Rhodes book: After shock Trump win, Obama reached out to Canada’s PM Justin Trudeau, his bromance guy, to resist President Trump.
#ffweekend#Satchat
A3: Challenges will vary from T to T based on experience, level of comfort, and support received from colleagues & administration. You have to keep in mind to take things slow ( you don’t have to do everything all at once) Do what you can and when you can’t- seek help! #satchat
A4—We can say blended learning is equitable when 1) each learner, regardless of background, learning difference, or socioecon status, has gained skills & mindsets needed to succeed in college and life & 2) educators have tools & supports they need to reach every child #satchat
A4: Equitable access for students in a blended learning environment requires that we meet students where they are, and that is different for each one of them. #satchat
A3: creating and/or curating quality instructional videos and other online activities, tracking relevant data meaningfully, amount of time and stress on the teacher's part.
#blendedlearning#satchat
@wkrakower morning Billy! It’s been very wet , flood stage in our community / thought I’d closed school for weather for the last time in April - then here I was at 4:30 am on Th doing it again #satchat
Those same Ts are generally the ones who don't have a positive relationship with their Ss. We need to know who our students are if we're going to help them. #satchat

Blended learning to me is a lot about how to use many different resources to learn a skill. In someways it's a research skill development method. #satchat
A3: Blended. Learning. IS LIFE. Learning is fluid, organic, sometimes messy, noisy and independent. That’s how we learn to own it, when WE are allowed to ‘have at it’. Students Must be allowed into blended learning spaces. #satchat
A4: Equitable access is always a concern in terms of access to tech, internet access. Allowing for BYOD, strategic purchasing of tools and software, ongoing professional learning for staff is needed. #satchat
Thanks! I've been in the chat before and listened to some of the podcasts. I need to finish #xplap this summer. @mrmatera is an awesome resource! #satchat I need a field trip to see it too.

A4: Not easy. Some schools have loaner laptops and pay for student internet access. But we can only do so much to control the home environment, and for some students, home in not a good learning environment. We need to recognize that and support in school. #satchat
A4 this a major discussion of every class technique. My school is 1-1 which helps with tech but not all kids have same homelives. I try to limit HW for that reason... I am interested int hear answers! #satchat
A4 Find out where there are S needs first. Work with your school and district to provide loaner tech (if possible). Work with the community to help where families lack the ability to connect. Offer support to Ss and parents who need help using the technology. #satchat
"You owe an apology to every child who has to spend their formative years in an America defined by:
fear of the other,
an epidemic of cruelty,
a poverty of decency,
a Christianity of malice,
a defiant resistance to diversity."
#SaturdayMorning#SatChathttps://t.co/BBvtFpaADG
A4: differentiating and making yourself available to students is very important. Meeting each learner at their level and showing support can help create a successful, equal blended learning environment #satchat
A4: Equitable access is always a concern in terms of access to tech, internet access. Allowing for BYOD, strategic purchasing of tools and software, ongoing professional learning for staff is needed. #satchat
A4. Differentiation! Lots of “randomizer” mechanics (dice, Story Cubes, spinners, etc.) to keep classes lively and chances to work collaboratively with peers, @KaganOnline style. Offering hands-on learning with @LEGO_Group has likewise been a game-changer. #satchat
I try to use the screen only to demo something that Ts are struggling with as a group. When we learn new tech, I love to use Sandbox time. 5 min to play, 5 min to share, 5 min to ask Qs - in that order. #satchat
We’ve participated in learning walks within our own building as well as visits to other schools. It’s an eye opening experience and allows you to reflect on what you’re doing, what you’re not doing, what you’d like to be doing, and discuss how to get there as a team! #satchat
A4- Give time for students work. Allow options - Realize what you assessing and understand that the knowledge you are assessing may be shown through different avenues. #satchat
Blended classroom or otherwise, an engaging classroom begins with choice. Students need to buy into the process- give them choice- create stations- let them move around. If the bum is numb, the brain is the same! #satchat
A4: The equity issue that is often ignored is the equity of time. How do you account for the uber involved student that fills their nights with extra-curriculars in a BL environment? #satchat
I recognized your name and avatar so thought you'd been part of it. I couldn't think of a different way to explain... I think in August @mrmatera@burgessdave@HeckAwesome and others are doing an online conference called #hivesummit which looks cool #satchat
In reply to
@specialtechie, @mrmatera, @MatthewFarber, @mrmatera, @burgessdave, @HeckAwesome
A4: For most schools/communities, ensuring equitable access requires the school to provide that access. BYOD is good for honoring independent learning & practicing digital citizenship but exacerbates inequality. Providing access take long and careful planning #satchat
A4: I am very interested in responses to this question...assuring equitable access seems difficult, even in 2018, given present realities across many of our schools and many of our students’ homes. #satchat
#satchat A4. Ts have to be creative to find ways to provide access to tech. It might mean writing grants, Donors Choose projects, access in class or school for those without access beyond school walls.
A3. I’ve noticed that if students take a passive role in simply clicking through an online program, the skills don’t transfer beyond that program. Students must take an active role: reflecting, applying, & connecting BEYOND that program. #satchat
A4- meeting students where they are and growing. Communication, relationship, and differentiation for becomes important. Student mentoring for this accessibility has worked for us. Let the kids tell each other what they need. Flip the classroom so all Ss have access. #satchat
A2: in a landscaping class the teacher can instruct on soils and horticultural outcomes. But the student can use digital tech to figure out designs. #satchat
A4 equitable to me beyond demographics of economics, gender, color, ethnicity includes accessibilty tools for kids on IEPs having tools they need to input and output - ensuring UDL for all #satchat
Breakdown the classroom walls and use tools that allow students access to resources 24/7 and involve your librarian in the blended learning journey they are an amazing tool & resources & have many things that will Help on the journey. #satchat
A4: what if the school had a contract with a local WiFi provider and had scholarships available for families who didn’t have WiFi in the home? Empower Ts to make the call to recommend need. #satchat
Q5: How do you effectively integrate the learning that happens outside of the classroom with the learning that happens inside of the classroom? #satchat
A4: Luckily, Our S's have devices to bring home & use at school. PD for T's is where we need to get creative. Giving S's multiple options to demonstrate mastery w/and w/out tech should help, especially if they don't have wifi access at home. #satchat
A4 YES and Develop a culture of positivity so all educators within the building are centered on helping students become lifelong readers and writers. Connect with public library so children can have open access to learning. #satchat
A4) being equitable means meeting students at the level and utilizing their CAN DO abilities. This requires teachers thinking outside the box and being flexible to work with students. #satchat
A4: No machine, no network, no hashtag, no amount of money or breast-beating is going to fix equitable access until we see equitable access to the positions of those making decisions that affect all of us.

Rezan Al-Najjar killers have apologists, here is a sample of the dehumanization Palestinians have to endure. The victims are blamed for their own murder.

We have heard of this rationale before. In Warsaw #JewishResistance#Kaddish#Satchat
A5: Effectively using social media tools like classroom twitter accounts & school based hashtags allows you to share learning experiences with staff, students and school community members. #satchat
A5. You take the classroom outside! Since a classroom should include as many interactive and unconventional non-lecture based activities as possible, using the physical environment outside of the class as a teaching prop could be helpful. #satchat
Allow/encourage them to use their phones? Absolutely. Designing assignments that assume they will have one is problematic (& tempting). It’s difficult to balance tapping into that opportunity & remembering not to disadvantage kids who don’t have one #satchat
Sounds awesome! I didn't have a lot of time to explore this year, nor a place to test it out since I don't have my own classroom. #Satchat Thanks for the resources! Love the #XPLAP crew!

Truth be told? We are afraid we aren’t as engaging as Minecraft or some of the other things they have on their phones.
Wait. What if we figured out a way to Incorporate that? #sarcasm#satchat
A4: We’re a 1:1 iPad school and our Ts provide multiple ways for Ss to access content & learning activities. Being flexible & mindful about what is required outside of school too. #satchat
Great point. We encourage extra-curricular, but we do little to help overloaded students fit it all in. My daughter spends six days a week rowing, but still needs to spend time in school to fulfill a PE requirement. #satchat
While I dont necessarily like Donald Trump for his rhetoric and obvious bias for some and hate for others, this Mueller investigation has now taken too long and it's just the fuel that's dividing this country. Needs to end. #SaturdayMorning#SatChat
A3: The biggest challenge is teacher buy-in. Stepping away from the comfort zone of being front and center can be difficult and uncomfortable, especially for veteran teachers. #satchat
A5. For instance, if you have to teach students about biodegradable and non-biodegradable sources of waste, nothing is better than taking them out on the roads and asking them to identify such waste. They learn about harmful factors for the environment this way, too. #satchat
A5: Using formative assessment tools to gauge student understanding at the beginning of a lesson can help Ts know how effective the learning outside of the classroom has been #satchat
A5 Making lessons as authentic to your students as possible. This is why I love PBL. The more authentic the lessons the more engaged students will be because it hits so close to home for them. #satchat
I know that some parents and students think The Draft is real in school. I thought so 20 yrs ago when mine were going through ES. Communicate. https://t.co/oHeUuEnMZy@TheWeirdTeacher#satchat
Completely agree with you. We can talk all we want about equitable access but without #NetNeutrality this conversation is pointless. We can’t have equitable access when the resource we use the most will no longer be equitable. #satchat
A4: No machine, no network, no hashtag, no amount of money or breast-beating is going to fix equitable access until we see equitable access to the positions of those making decisions that affect all of us.
#satchat
Teacher guidance and leadership for this innovation and blending to happen is key. T has to understand and embrace allowing learning to grow in its own path. Give yourself up! #satchat
I think when we think about Blended Learning, we usually think “tech”, but paper, crayon, and glue can also be ways to have blended learning. It’s about using what they have to make it happen #satchat
A4: we are fortunate to be a 1:1 school this year so our Ss ALL have access. Our 5th graders are able to take chrome books home nightly. Many of our other Ss have access to technology at home. Our division provides CB or LT to every MS & HS Ss to take home. #satchat
A5: beginning with a quick recapof what students learned, get immediate feedback and refer to material in the classroom to allow students to see the connection and the importance of taking control of their learning #satchat
A5- I'm chuckling here.Growing up near the Erie Canal outside learning brought into the classroom included polliwogs and snakes! I had patient teachers.#satchat
So true / we find that AT TTS STT scaffolds language and literacy well beyond what paper in/output shows / makes curriculum and collab accessible #satchat
“Get your hot dogs! Hot dogs for sale!” The language of food came alive as children created their culinary favs! Using play dough they made, they’ve enjoyed creativity & conversation w/this texturally soothing medium. https://t.co/LFRWfygwgJ#playdough#play#kinderchat#satchat
Q5: How do you effectively integrate the learning that happens outside of the classroom with the learning that happens inside of the classroom? #satchat
A5 It’s all in the planning! When creating the blended learning lesson make sure it’s connected and cohesive. Tie the in class learning to the outside classroom learning. #satchat
Q5: How do you effectively integrate the learning that happens outside of the classroom with the learning that happens inside of the classroom? #satchat
A4: We are fortunate to be a 1:1 school. Our students and staff all bring their chromebooks home. We have a great tech team led by @PCookTech that ensures that all students and staff have equal access to technology. #satchat
You and @BarackObama left us to die @HillaryClinton then shopped a CYA story to an unethical leftist POS reporter @adamentous ?! You both are vile and a disgrace. How you still think of yourselves human beings makes my stomach turn 😡🤬 #scumbags@washingtonpost
A5: Reflections and discussion boards are huge. I want Ss to post their reflections as early as possible so I can see where they really are before class. #satchat
I almost feel like it’s the opposite. You can’t plan it. Maybe carve out time to talk about it. We need to engage Ss on their outside classroom experiences and then be nimble enough to apply what they are doing/experiencing with the classroom goals #satchat
A5 flipping the classroom is strong and allows you to assess during classroom time. Planning is the key to everything along with never saying “we can’t “ and “ that won’t work” Innovate and have some fun. #satchat
A5. Creating a one-stop-shop class Google Sites hub has been essential. Pages with unit-specific “choice board” menu options, leaderboards, and side quests lend clarity while offering variety, dynamism, voice, and choice. #gamification. #satchathttps://t.co/evRhdLPb1U
Like an exalted hero in a rotten tomato fantasy film, Brennan crows about ‘bad actors’ in the 2016 election.

I don’t disagree as a Kindergarten teacher, Freddy, but I don’t feel we can afford to deny the reality of technology being part of students’ learning reality in 2018. #satchat
.@MSNBC needs to explain how someone who attempted to discredit the work of 1000s of people dedicated to the preservation of history (@InternetArchive) still has a job.
MSNBC has used the Internet Archive for its own reports before. Lets it be shamed without defending it.
A5: This is where your model comes in. Depending on how your flow works, you have to tie outside learning to the in-person learning. These models can give you a better idea of what might work for your classroom. https://t.co/2vVG8akyLH#Satchat
Q5: How do you effectively integrate the learning that happens outside of the classroom with the learning that happens inside of the classroom? #satchat
A4: Make sure to work w isp’s to help families get Wi-Fi at low cost and provide data hotspots to those who need them on a temporary or permanent basis.
Absolutely. We should be *years* past trying to ban phones in school. Students are learning with their phones. Why wouldn’t we want to help them figure out how to learn well and responsibly with them? Great point!
A5: This year, @Seesaw with our littlest Thunderbirds (preK-K) & for our older ones we used @googleclassroom. Our Ts also used @ClassDojo to share the learning happening in school, on field trips and parents shared things happening at home. We also tried @Flipgrid#satchat

3-4 year olds are engaging with tech. The problem is Ts haven’t been trained how to navigate. We go to crayons and such.
Our five year old is doing learning online already. #satchat
Q6: Are there any educators who are excellent examples of the blended learning environment? Who are they and do they have resources online to see? #satchat
A5 We constantly connect with experts via our class Twitter & I try to schedule as many video calls as possible! Here’s a chat with an engineer from Google X Labs! #satchat
4/ Bernie Sanders supporters talk abt voter intimidation. How Democrats force far-left, third party, Progressive voters to choose their candidates.
1. Now I watch those same people bully Joy Reid
2. Bernie runs "within the Democratic party"
#satchat#Resist
A5) Planning and Coaching! The learning can be tied together through platforms like Google Classroom and the T has to coach the student on making those connections between inside and outside the classroom #satchat
A5. Blogging, vlogging, tweeting, & sending out a weekly course eNewsletter tomkids & families has been a game-changer for my clas. Sharing student reflections alongside top quality work products, facilitating an ongoing network of collaboration #satchathttps://t.co/5HCDi4Lz1i
The teacher/classroom needs to be seen as another resource, not the king/queen of learning. We guide the learning and lay foundations, but students need to feel confident and empowered to learn outside of the classroom #satchat
Q5: How do you effectively integrate the learning that happens outside of the classroom with the learning that happens inside of the classroom? #satchat
A5 Google Classroom allows me to introduce teachers to ideas that will be offered in PD workshop at school. They prepare at home and learn at school. Worked very nicely yesterday and will use this approach next week. #satchat
A5 this! was walking in rain on downtown mall at lunch this past week - hear my name screamed- 2 HS girls run up “can we vid interview you- we are finishing a project based on Humans of NYC/ making a website for ELA class on Humans of Cville” out to in learning #satchat
A6—One key NEW blended learning resource is Learning Commons, which helps address issues of searchability & sharing of practitioner learning resources in blended & personalized learning https://t.co/yQQ9LNnYSK#satchat HT @BethRabbitt

Q6: Are there any educators who are excellent examples of the blended learning environment? Who are they and do they have resources online to see? #satchat
We use @Schoology for discussion boards. Some Ts use @RecapThat for reflection. I know a lot of Ts really like @Flipgrid for reflections. The Clips app on their phone would work, but requires upload/download - I'd avoid that if possible. #satchat

True...but the training is out there...we must seek it out and not wait for it to come to us...it could be a long wait. A lack of training can sometimes be used as an excuse...we CAN get it...we MUST be proactive! #satchat

If saying you "grab women by the p*ssy" and "move on them like bitch(es)" gets you elected president, I think Samantha Bee at least deserves a pay raise for elevating her vocabulary to presidential standards.
"This week won't be the last time someone tries to tell you you've been wronged and that you deserve whatever you want and that you can do anything to get it. Our current President lives and governs as if that's true."

I like this, with a caveat. How do we assess Ss outside of the classroom to hit a closer 50-50 Target with them individually? The Ss in our classroom aren’t monolithic. Again, not a critique, I love the concept. Just how do we dig deeper? #satchat

And this is what I was stating as a challenge...we also cannot deny things like poverty and lack of access to these “resources”. Despite many great, ongoing efforts, the lack of equitable access still exists (on a large scale, in some places). #satchat
