Our chat will focus on the idea that we can lead and make positive change from any position in our school systems. Leadership is not about a title, it is a way of thinking and acting.

Hey #LeadLAP - Alicia from NC - Lead Digital Learning & Media Innovation Facilitator at a STEM magnet middle school! Can't believe I'm awake for this chat this morning!
Good morning! I am Harper and I teach in TK in Southern California. I have two teen age sons and so interested in learning more about both my students and my sons! I am new to the chat world and saw this one and thought it sounded interesting. Thanks! #leadlap
Join us on Thursday, June 8th at 7:30pm Mountain Time for #EdCoChat
Thursday's chat is part one of a two-part discussion on Building Your Leadership.
See you then! #LeadLAP#satchat#EduGladiators

A1: Dynamic Learning is all about going BEYOND what we thought was possible and using technology to do new things to transform learning. Learn more about it here: https://t.co/HjovN182Kk#LeadLAP#shakeuplearning
A1: Constant question with me, something I have always applied is it is a tool. What can that tool teach Ss that they can take outside the classroom and into their lives. Instead of: "Look, a digital version of a WS." #leadlap
A2 I want to be paperless. I want the kids to ready for a college and career that’s 6 years in the future, that’s hard to do but I think paper will be used less right... #LeadLAP
A1: One way that I love to push teachers out of their traditional comfort zones is sharing their voice! Use a blog, @Flipgrid , social media to share your passions and ideas! Read my very first blog post: https://t.co/wPa2EtXsWL#LeadLAP#shakeuplearning
A1: Ts have asked for more interactive PD sessions w/in my buildings -- I try to model the use of tech at PD so they can take it back to the classroom-- @Flipgrid@Seesaw#appsmash in PD #LeadLAP
#LeadLAP Good Morning, Tracy from NM. Soaking in leadership for high school as I am transitioning from Elementary principal to high school principal. I think is for sure, will be pirate style!
A1: Right now I'm using Voxer for a #LetStudentsSpeak book study and Twitter for #LeadLAP chat and my district Google Drive to facilitate #tlap book study! Preparing for #Culturize book study on Twitter, HA!
A1) Webinars, Twitter chats, Voxer book studies/groups, Podcasts, reading blogs, but mostly CONNECTING with great educators all around the world that challenge, mentor, and help me grow! #LeadLAP
A1: #leadlap#shakeuplearning at school I Put Tech into Ss hands - let them drive it. Personally, I like to explore, try new stuff, fail a bit, get frustrated and push on. #learningdaily
A1: Technology use is HUGE in our professional learning...starting with twitter and chats like these right now! We connected with @irockey a couple days ago and did a podcast. Tech amplifies our learning and growth! #LeadLAP
A1: I would love to find a school from another state to do virtual PD/collaboration with; maybe broken down by department to make it efficient. #LeadLAP
A1: tech is a new “sandbox” to play in as an educator. The paradigm needs to be applied to the new sandbox to figure out what works differently than previous sandboxes we’ve engaged in. #LEADlap
A1) I love using tech to find new ideas or brainstorm new lessons or school wide activities. I love sharing ideas with others in my blog and learning/ meeting amazing educators on Twitter! #teachingpower#LEADlap
#LeadLAP Good Morning, Tracy from NM. Soaking in leadership for high school as I am transitioning from Elementary principal to high school principal. 1 thing is for sure, will be pirate style!
A1: With some encouragement from the #LeadLAP crew, some awesome #CCMS staff members and I did a book study as a #Twitter chat instead of a traditional meeting! Very proud of their willingness to try something new! It was a great experience for all of us! #CCMSChat
A1: Our school has a monthly twitter chat #TMGeniusChat that has been an awesome opportunity to connect & learn. We also use @Voxer to do Summer Book Studies that are T led #LeadLAPhttps://t.co/T3lr75m3I5
A1 Technology has become a game changer for me! I love using twitter and other avenues to deepen my understandings, collaborate, and learn. There’s never a day that goes by that I don’t learn something or receive food for thought! #leadlap
A1: Twitter has been AMAZING to help me expand my PLN, make connections with educators across the world, & provided me with inspiration through “conversation.” I’ve received ideas, book recommendations, requests to moderate chats, & participating in Voxer bookstudies! #LeadLAP
I feel like it is always a wonderful opportunity that often can be overlooked for the "traditional" sit and get meeting. LOVE modeling new ideas, tech, etc. #LeadLAP
A1: Technology enables us to connect with anyone anytime for PD. I have learned from some of the best around the country because I have access to the most amazing educators through #edtech! #leadlap
A1: for example. In face to face, the risk comes from engaging with a group. You can do work Indiviudally without risking much face to face. Getting Ss and Ts to engage with a group is the risk.
Online, the risk is individual - putting ideas into the world.
#LEADlap
A1: So much value in learning from & with other educators outside of our own schools & divisions. My professional growth has been exponential since developing a PLN on Twitter. #leadLAP
I've toyed with this idea of paperless. Goal for me isn't necessarily paperless, but better intentionality with which media I am using, usually ending up being paperless. #LeadLAP
A1: I’m always trying to model something new for my staff, so they can see what it looks like in practice. Have to find some new stuff to try this summer! #LeadLAP
Hi! Becca, Inst. Coach K-5 A1: Chioce is huge! Tech allows for #personalizedPD opportunities where Ts can seek out what they want to learn. Having a PLN to help and share with is amazing! #LeadLAP
#LeadLAP A1: We are doing it right now! With two young kids I often miss these Saturday morning chats, but I follow up. This leads to that and that leads something else!
Model. Showcase how it works for you and how it can work for them. I would have never believed the connection was so vital until experiencing it myself. #LeadLAP

@ShakeUpLearning, @JeffNelsonTLI, @irockey
Technology allows us to learn from others around the world. We can expand our ideas through interactions in real time - such as chats like this one! #LeadLAP
Need to be better at keeping up with blogging. I averaged probably around once per month this year, sometimes more. Definitely got it off the ground this year! #LeadLAP
The BIG question! Modeling, quiet sharing and encouragement. Inch by inch. We try to have our professional learning be a grassroots effort, never top down. So slowly, starting with a spark. One on one. It's working. Ripples are happening! #LeadLAP
A1: #LeadLAP#shakeuplearning Twitter chats, Google Classroom book studies & other choice learning opportunities. I want to create a choice board next year with Google Classroom join codes to go along with them.
A1: We did a district wide book study of Making Thinking Visible the group created a google doc and shared ideas and examples of the strategies they used in their classroom #LeadLAP
A1.3: Ss are much more comfortable engaging and putting stuff online (mainly b/c they don’t know the consequences). Ts have a harder time with this. Ts more comfortable engaging face to face, they know they safety of it. Ss don’t think it’s safe to engage face to face. #LEADlap
A1 Next thing I want to try is getting a group of teachers to listen to podcasts via QR codes around the school to get those 10,000 steps in a day and have something common to chat about/ learn together. #LeadLAP
We use team drives to share staff reflections, ideas, resources, photos, videos, etc. of our classrooms. Would love to start blogging. Interested in podcasts. #leadlap
Q2: How can we create Dynamic Learning experiences for teachers that are not just on-and-done, but that grow organically throughout the year? What are your strategies?
#LEADlap#shakeuplearning
A1: We are implementing Google Certified Educator training to go along with our large amount of Chromebooks that we’ve been able to get over the past 2 years. The T’s need to know the tools for the S’s to get the full effect. #LeadLAP#shakeuplearning
A1: I am still learning about what is available via technology. We have a class Instagram to communicate with our kiddos. My PLC gets ideas here on Twitter, and I have begun Google Hangouts with outside PLNs. #LeadLAP
A1: We are doing our first ever #KYGoDigital Virtual event on Jun 11th! @BethHouf & @ShakeUpLearning are keynoting with KY #edurockstars CONNECTING, CREATING & SHARING throughout the day. All virtual. I would say that is pretty non-traditional. #YES#LeadLAP
A1: I'm presenting at our VVSD Summer PD Academy on using @gsuite for Ed with extensions and add-ons to streamline productivity AND I'm flipping their learning! #LEADlap
If someone had a speaker we couldn't get into the school we could connect with. If there was a Twitter chat we wanted to join. We have different comfort levels with different tech so maybe it could be a choice! #LeadLAP
A2: As leaders, we have to get better with followup! I've participated (and lead) in too many one-and-done PD sessions where there are no opportunities to discuss, share and followup! How can we do better?
#LeadLAP#shakeuplearning
Q2: How can we create Dynamic Learning experiences for teachers that are not just on-and-done, but that grow organically throughout the year? What are your strategies?
#LEADlap#shakeuplearning
It has been incredible to reflect & learn as a community and be able to connect to others outside our school walls. It is entirely T-led & that has been the most awesome to witness. #TMGeniusChat#LeadLAP
A1- U learn so much from other educators by connecting on Twitter, Voxer and FB groups. I also love learning of great books and then reading and recommending to others around me or participating in chats on those books. #LeadLAP
A1 Next thing I want to try is getting a group of teachers to listen to podcasts via QR codes around the school to get those 10,000 steps in a day and have something common to chat about/ learn together. #LeadLAP
A1: Twitter has been AMAZING to help me expand my PLN, make connections with educators across the world, & provided me with inspiration through “conversation.” I’ve received ideas, book recommendations, requests to moderate chats, & participating in Voxer bookstudies! #LeadLAP
A2: What do THEY want to know/learn? My job to get the resources to empower and help them grow - as I will grow too! Always connecting to find what is best for T's to help improve the lives of #ALLKIDS#Leadlap@ShakeUpLearning
Q2: How can we create Dynamic Learning experiences for teachers that are not just on-and-done, but that grow organically throughout the year? What are your strategies?
#LEADlap#shakeuplearning
Q2: How can we create Dynamic Learning experiences for teachers that are not just on-and-done, but that grow organically throughout the year? What are your strategies?
#LEADlap#shakeuplearning
The way we do it, it is entirely voluntary & honestly no one has asked. I would give it credit - it is some of the best PD we've participated in. A great community of learners! #LeadLAP
A2: I like Ed Camp style PL opportunities. But then offer additional PL throughout the year and ideas/opportunities for them to use the strategies they've learned. If its not applicable right now, it gets put on a pile. #LeadLAP
Q2: How can we create Dynamic Learning experiences for teachers that are not just on-and-done, but that grow organically throughout the year? What are your strategies?
#LEADlap#shakeuplearning
A2: I like adding goal setting to my PD's to have a follow up opportunity. Tie it back to professional growth and student learning and it's all the more meaningful! #LeadLAP Google Classrooms to go with all PD's make it easy to have that ongoing learning. Twitter hashtags too!
Q2: How can we create Dynamic Learning experiences for teachers that are not just on-and-done, but that grow organically throughout the year? What are your strategies?
#LEADlap#shakeuplearning
A2 We have to be intentional with follow up and reflection with PD. There are so many good ideas out there. Share, listen, and cultivate learning together! #leadlap
A2: As leaders, we have to get better with followup! I've participated (and lead) in too many one-and-done PD sessions where there are no opportunities to discuss, share and followup! How can we do better?
#LeadLAP#shakeuplearning
A2: We have many district learning cohorts. Ts and Admin from around the district meeting over the year to learn together on a topic of interest. I always join one and invite my staff to join me #LeadLAP
A2: We try to revisit strategies over the course of the year. We also plan on really working hard on instructional rounds, with the help of our new academic coach. #LeadLAP
A1 - Twitter is a game changer! The connections are amazing and the information limitless. Podcasts and Google Hangouts have been great, too. #LeadLAP#shakeuplearning
A2-I really want to dive deep into differentiated instruction-content area book studies--Ts share learning from each ch & how they've integrated ideas into their classes. Pair this with/group observations & discussions-#leadlap
Q2: How can we create Dynamic Learning experiences for teachers that are not just on-and-done, but that grow organically throughout the year? What are your strategies?
#LEADlap#shakeuplearning
A2: I love using #googleclassroom as a platform to share w staff. I push out things I find for Ts to try and also share what is already happening on campus. We ended the yr w a staff mtg of T-led breakout sessions and it was awesome! #LeadLAP
Q2: How can we create Dynamic Learning experiences for teachers that are not just on-and-done, but that grow organically throughout the year? What are your strategies?
#LEADlap#shakeuplearning
A2: key is having themes and “courses” they keep doing throughout the year. We also have moved to a study lab model where teachers are in other teachers classrooms—continues all year, not just once or twice #leadlap
A2 I like the @voxer book study platform, it allows to do things at your own time and some people just lurk for awhile until they are comfortable. #LeadLAP
A2: As leaders, we have to get better with followup! I've participated (and lead) in too many one-and-done PD sessions where there are no opportunities to discuss, share and followup! How can we do better?
#LeadLAP#shakeuplearning
A2 jumping in late :) Dynamic learning experiences can be by learning from other experts in your school such as your school librarian. What have others got to share that you don't know about and how can you give them those opportunities. #LEADlap
The best way I can think of is to keep up with the grass-roots efforts. Hopefully admin buys in further spreading the message of all the possibilities. Doesn't all fall on admin, but their influence can do a lot of good in steering new/reluctant Ts in right direction! #LeadLAP

@ShakeUpLearning, @JeffNelsonTLI, @irockey
A2: I'm gamifying educator PD with a Google Site, while incorporating highlighting "PD Rockstars" of the week, digital & classroom door badges, our district PR rep and much more! #LEADlap
Purposefully create opportunities to discuss, share, & follow up. Make it part of the learning & growth culture to do precisely those things. @gcouros flat says that isolation is a choice educators make. Challenge colleague learners to not make that choice. #LeadLAP
A2 PIRATES have the ability to be creative and make learning together FUN by using themes, tech tools, hooks to peak an interest and to make the PD relevant and something that can be immediately implemented in the classroom if that's what teachers choose. #LeadLAP
A2: Dynamic PD is a yearlong commitment to learning. Book chats are a great way to reignite our passions. F2F & virtual discussions further learning & keep the concepts fresh & present. #LeadLAP is the perfect title for this!
A person and a description. Why you like them. Ex good leadership or great math resources. Sometimes its good hashtags or chats to follow too. #LeadLAP
A2) I think it’s important to establish a community focused on key tech or tools and have monthly meetings to talk about how to utilize it, share experiences and ideas, discuss new updates #LEADlap
A2: This year, we focused on #BrandingOurSchool and really emphasized telling our story. As the year has progressed, I’ve been excited to see our staff sharing #PD, growing their #PLNs, and learning via Twitter! #LeadLAP#ShakeUpLearning
Q2: How can we create Dynamic Learning experiences for teachers that are not just on-and-done, but that grow organically throughout the year? What are your strategies?
#LEADlap#shakeuplearning
A2: Listen to them. Teachers will share what they are interested in learning. Create a menu (think restaurant) and provide them choices. Appetizers, Entrees and Side Dishes are listed. Save dessert (celebration) for later. #LeadLAP
Agreed. Culture is key. Always is. I call this high expectations w soft landings. We make it fun to be connected while showing the incredible value. #CultureMatters#LeadLAP

A2-Looking and reflecting on 90 day goals. Technology can assist with documentation, allow others to see and help your learning path, and provide more examples on how to improve #leadlap#ShakeUpLearning
A2: Creating an ongoing project, continuous learning experience for Ts! #PBL, core content, etc. There should be IPS for Ts for the whole year (that way it's not just nuts and bolts mtgs) #LeadLAP
A2 - Giving choice is key. Having interest based resources available and teams of teachers working together is effective. Setting aside dedicated time for follow up and continued learning is imperative. #LeadLAP#shakeuplearning
A2: I spend my time coaching through coplanning and coteaching. These are always authentic, real-time experiences. We also have an online gamified PD approach called #EPICAcademy created by @lucasgillispie - check it out at https://t.co/CLzKXOjURw#LeadLAP
I think that is crucial for peers to understand and see the value in anything. Lead by example, lead with enthusiasm and have everyone on board #LeadLAP
In reply to
@iluveducating, @ShakeUpLearning, @JeffNelsonTLI
A2 This year I encouraged the instructional coaches I led/mentored to begin a digital professional portfolio (website), and all but one did it.
The learning that took place through reflection & sharing outside our Dist boundaries = dynamic, no doubt.
#leadlap
A2: encouraging Ts to keep growing by tapping into their passions. Online book studies, webinars, online PD geared towards passions. Find the courses and share them. #leadlap#ShakeUpLearning
Absolutely! Love that you mention leading with enthusiasm! If you aren't excited, how can we expect them to be? Enthusiasm and energy are contagious! #LeadLAP
In reply to
@irockey, @ShakeUpLearning, @JeffNelsonTLI
Keep the convo going with Google Classroom, @Seesaw or Twitter discussion, Ts can document their learning (Ts artifacts), creating a community of learners! #LeadLAP
The buy-in is still tough! How to get them on Voxer for PD purposes...? I got one colleague on this year. She's in one Blended Learning Group with me!
#LeadLAP
Greetings #LeadLAP Currently Principal of large PreK-8 suburban school. Moving into Superintendent of Human Resources for same school division in a month.
A2: it’s more about empowering staff to grow professionally and take ownership for their ongoing development.... we can create the opportunities, but we also need to mold the desire to grow and learn #LeadLAP
A2: Next year, I want to learn about my PLC member’s values and professional goals. I am hoping to foster an atmosphere that incorporates and honors individuals. Empowered teachers empower students. #LeadLAP
A3: Going BEYOND the Walls and connecting and publishing globally is a passion of mine! Teachers (and students) should be given opportunities to share their learning with the world! See this post for more ideas: https://t.co/ewaBO1zzWD#LeadLAP#shakeuplearning
And I'd change the name from 'staff meetings' to 'professional learning' time. Or something along those lines. Make it clear that it's not nuts/bolts, but focused growth opportunities. #LeadLAP
A2) Brainstorm: Our district is big into internal PD. Could it be possible to have Ts get a PD day to visit other teachers at different schools or record Ts lessons with permission and have a library of lessons or class setups #JustThinking#LEADlap
A2 PD stems from teacher goal setting and their PLC reflections. I try to find themes, collaborate with teachers, respond to interests needs and goals, all with the lens of progression toward the vision/mission and what kids need. #leadlap
A3: I think if you see a good connection for staff you can share it or likewise, they see something, they share. I write a weekly newsletter and I use Twitter blogs to share great readings b/c its quick! #LeadLAP
I realize that with every job interview. I reference names and book titles that I just assume every educator knows and/or has read. But I get blank stares #LEADLAP Like they were expecting Wong or Marzano so like I’ve learned nothing. Hence to say I didn’t get those jobs
A2: The other piece that is key is growing teachers as leaders. When everyone is leading, learning opportunities ARE organic & are continuous. Empower others, give up the control, encourage risk taking. #LeadLAP
#LeadLAP A2 have some "free"/"down" time where T's can get together and have conversations...first they might just be chatting, getting to know each other better, but they will shift to discussing ideas
I've heard you mention this on @GTeacherTribe! lol.
The "Mark all as read" button must be an option when life gets busy. It's not good for FOMO, but...
The edufriends I have made in large group and "side-voxes" have been unlike anything else. #LeadLAP
In reply to
@ShakeUpLearning, @rokstar19, @voxer, @GTeacherTribe
A3: Perhaps by creating Hangout Chat rooms where you can bring in outside experts, including engaged classrooms from anywhere, into your building for a real time sharing of ideas. #leadlap
I have adjusted the way I deliver PD this year, using webinars, Google Classroom, online book studies, and Twitter allows educators to learn at their convenience. #LeadLAP
Q2: How can we create Dynamic Learning experiences for teachers that are not just on-and-done, but that grow organically throughout the year? What are your strategies?
#LEADlap#shakeuplearning
A3: I'm not sure how to NOT use global connections for prof. learning! That's why I do a session on Twitter for Teachers as much as possible. I don't think everyone understands the power it holds! #LeadLAP#shakeuplearning
A3-Technology has help to make the large world and little smaller. Easier to connect with others across the country or the world. #leadlap#ShakeUpLearning
A3: You can learn SO MUCH working with someone with a different perspective. I did WWII projects with a class in Germany and a teacher in Japan through https://t.co/xAC9UHa7a8. WOW! I might have learned more than the kids did on a topic I already love! #LeadLAP
A2 (Continued) Another think I did every Thursday and Friday morning = Drive-Bys. I’d visit the coaches (& Ts + Ss, too) on their turf (with no agenda) and allow those authentic “coach the coach” moments to occur.
Drive-Bys = ongoing PD, no doubt
#LEADlap
A3 Learning via your PLN on twitter, Facebook groups lan Google communities leads to international learning. I have connected educators to educators and students to students internationally through friendships on twitter. @stony12270 being just one of the many :) #LEADlap
A3: This is where blogging and Twitter chats have so much value to me. Both have led me to some global connections in my pln like @Nikcal88 who teaches in Dubai. #LeadLAP
A2: 1) make it meaningful with direction and purpose 2) follow up with both individuals and whole group 3) celebrate successes related to implementation of ideas and strategies #LeadLAP
Q2: How can we create Dynamic Learning experiences for teachers that are not just on-and-done, but that grow organically throughout the year? What are your strategies?
#LEADlap#shakeuplearning
A2: We do a lot of learning through reflection during weekly PLCs. I would love to connect our teachers with other educators and especially TX educators who share the same standards. #LeadLAP
A3 One of the best experiences I've ever had was collaborating with another 5th grade teacher across the country and we taught some social studies lessons together. Fun and we learned together! #LeadLAP
A2: My work BFF @khoggardGRT and I want to do a bookstudy with weekly “challenges to change” that can be posted via twitter or @Flipgrid. This year we started with #tacoedu after school with some Ts. #LeadLAP
In reply to
@ShakeUpLearning, @khoggardGRT, @Flipgrid
A3: I love using Voxer for global connections because time zones aren't as big of an issue. I want to use @Flipgrid for this next year as well! Participating in a GHO with @burgessdave was HUGE for my #tlap study - they bought in after seeing his enthusiasm. #LeadLAP
The text feature definitely defeats the purpose... When you find the right tribe that strikes the right balance, Voxer can be incredible. I was definitely apprehensive a first. #LeadLAP
In reply to
@tracy9535, @ShakeUpLearning, @rokstar19, @voxer
A3: Once Ts make connections via social media, there is a world of knowledge and camaraderie out there = #PLN! Model, share, connect, make it part of the PD experience... Scaffold global connections and empower Ts! #LeadLAP
A3: We are starting small by creating district wide connections within our large school district. So proud of the collaboration via #ECSDFL Chat this year! @CMBPensacola@BrianAlaback#leadlap
A3) Globally as a teacher I used twitter and I’m excited to use Flipgrid and Skype next year to open my classroom to others/ learn from others. As a district I would love for us to do the same or partner with another district to share with #LEADlap
Of course! I borrowed from @matthew_arend (thank you Matthew!). I'll send you the link to my blog post I'm publishing tmrw that will include all the resources for your borrowing pleasure! #LeadLAP
A3. Modeling again...and I'd really recommend using kids with this one. Find safe connections around the world for kids to share, learn, and grow. The teachers will love it. And do a podcast across the world! https://t.co/FVYPKZWwCK#LeadLAP
A3 - Making connections outside our comfortable 4 walls will lead to change. Understanding how others do things to support learning helps us grow. #LeadLAP#shakeuplearning
A3 Globally, there are different practices and styles. As educators, we can glean from other practices to make our bank of strategies fuller and more diverse. Connect, learn, and grow together! #leadlap
Learning takes place at all times and places. Model being a constant learning with your staff and students. There is no need to wait for Professional Learning to come to you. My Teach Thyself page https://t.co/FsBu0oicRF My Learning Pages https://t.co/wvlnS21TrS#leadLAP
A3: connected teachers make connected classrooms and connected students... modeling that in PD and as a leader promotes connectedness... the power of a PLN only amplifies professional learning #LeadLAP
A3 Get them connected on Twitter.
We started a district hashtag—that’s still developing traction.
Also, having authors of our book study GHO with us at onset = game changer. The book content took on REAL meaning after talking to the authors. DBC authors = 👍🏼👍🏼 #leadlap
A3: Global connections allow us to learn from educators around the world and see various perspectives. We get to hear about strategies and ideas and how they’re being implemented in various schools, states, countries. #LeadLAP
A4: Try something new in front of staff and tell them you have never done this before. Be vulnerable and show them how you can dance on your feet when it doesn't work. #LeadLAP#shakeuplearning
A4: Let others see you fail! It's okay! I frequently tell Ts and Ss that I have no idea how "xyz" is going to go, but we're going to try it anyhow. Then ask for feedback and model reflection and revision. #LeadLAP
#LeadLAP A3 there needs to be a culture of "it is okay if you fall flat on your face with that new lesson idea of connecting with a class in X country", "we will work together to get it right"
A3: Connecting educators globally expands our idea and empathy bank. Our teacher-tribe can be scattered all over this world. The more we connect and engage with like-minded PLN members, the better we become as educators. #LeadLAP
A4: FAIL forward. I’m not afraid to try something new or support a teacher that’s willing to try something new. It comes down to just saying YES... #LeadLAP
A4 Share what you do & encourage others to have an outlet themselves. Twitter has become a huge sounding board and encouragement for me. Encourage and support others along their journey. #leadlap
A4: It is important to share your triumphs as well as your struggles...
This past year, I attempted to revamp our computer lab into a MakerSpace. The task proved to be more challenging than I realized.
I shared the lessons learned as well as next steps to improve!
#leadLAP
A3 I’m in a rural district of 20 educators. Our school is awesome, but our view is limited. If it weren’t for my #pln I’d be in a rut. I have 2 people from Australia in our latest book study it’s amazing to get their perspective. #LeadLAP
A4: In addition to the modeling, co-model with principals and teachers. Get ever closer to the classroom and the kids in modeling. Blogging, Skype, podcasts, edcamps, and so on. #LeadLAP
YES! I am publishing a new blog post tmrw that has all of the resources for your borrowing pleasure! Check it out tmrw at https://t.co/Wcs6iDCO86#LeadLAP
A4: model, model, model. We don’t have to be the experts we just have to try. We have to build a #cultureofyes where risk-taking is encouraged and supported #leadlap
A4: Model, model, model. We have to try new things, risk-task, fail forward and do it in our school communities. The more we try, the more others will #LeadLAP#ShakeUpLearning
A3 one of my favourite connections was a mystery hangout with students from the Island of Alderney @AngelaeEthered1 and students in Arkansas @stony12270 it was amazing to see all students benefit from this collaboration #LEADlap
A4: Take risks - but explain to teachers why its a risk. Some Ts think that "its a leaders job" or "its easy for you" but really its not. I often tell them "well this is stepping out of my comfort zone. And I tell them when I have epic fails. #LeadLAP
A4: When speaking with Ts and Ss, acknowledge those that take risks particularly when it doesn't go as planned. We need to reward the process if we want more to take the leap of faith! #leadlap
A4 Blog about what I'm trying and learning. Important to not always show successful outcomes but to show the process and the fails too! Most important thing is to SHARE! #LeadLAP
A4: Try something new in front of staff and tell them you have never done this before. Be vulnerable and show them how you can dance on your feet when it doesn't work. #LeadLAP#shakeuplearning
A4) I am consistently looking into new tech and learning about it through twitter. I try it out with my students and report back. I always go big and lead by example. I want others to know I’m willing to risks and they can too! #LEADlap
A4: Stand up in front of people and talk about something you tried and had to work hard at, maybe even failed at. People will take risks when those around them do. #LeadLAP
A4: Sometimes full immersion into something new encourages risk taking! Create situations that require Ts to jump right in and find out that they can! #leadlap
A4 As a school librarian I would work alongside any teacher that wants to try something new. I would find the connection and support the technology. Truly collaborative working that works well. #LeadLap
A4 I talk about it at lunch and give ideas I get from my #pln they seem interested but it’s a slow journey. I was able to get one teacher to join a voxer group. #LeadLAP
A4: As I work w/Ts, it starts with questions: What is going really well? Where do you want to grow? How can I help you get there? Can I share something with you? Let's learn & grow together! 👊💡💜 #leadlap
A3: As educators we have the same goal: to guide our students to live a good life. Global perspective can spark and shift how we see our micro-slice of life when we zoom out to a bigger view. #LeadLAP
We had a blast! They still talk about it! Thanks for taking the time! Highly recommend to any doing a #tlap book study! The GDrive resources are great too! #LeadLAP
A4- I model risk-taking by showing that I get new ideas from reading, observing other campus leaders and through PD. I visited two campus PLCs out of my district to learn this year. I implement those new ideas and then get feedback on what I can continue to improve on. #LeadLAP
Oh my goodness - this is so true especially when we were very new to tech. Now I understand it's just what happens. It's what you do NEXT that matters. Modeling from those who know so much more is very helpful. Gives me something to cling to when it's happening to me! #LeadLAP
A4: When ask those we lead to create or to set goals we need to be intentional about not restricting or stifling creativity. There needs to an environment where it’s safe to fail because it’s about the process and learning, knowing that together we get there. #leadlap
A4: First I prefer to refer to it as exploring, innovating, expanding because risk implies not safe. Coaches can be great encouragers, they can encourage others to be bold, brave #LeadLAP
A4: Owning our mistakes is very important. It’s not failure if you adapt to adversity and continue towards your goal. Fail forward. Be a cheerleader for the teachers who are willing to take some risks! #LeadLAP
A4 Overtly share risks I’m taking w/Ts I lead. Real transparent.
One Q we often refer to is “What will you cannonball in the waters to try in the next week, month, year?”
First part of our meetings = celebrations & we check in on our “cannonball splashes”—me included. #leadlap
A4: I model everything and when it fails, I move on to try something else! I offer to come in and help as needed and share the great things happening in classrooms, esp when they are taking risks to try something new! #LeadLAP
A4 Be a real walking billboard of sorts. Share what you’ve learned, how you’ve fallen, what you’ve learned, and support other learners along the way. #leadlap
A4: Having relationships with teachers is critical. Ts need to know their admin will support their risks & be OK with unsuccessful moments. Constantly communicate everyone makes mistakes; they are great learning experiences. Embed growth mindset into the culture starting.#leadlap
I blog about my experiences good and bad with my classroom as to share everything I learn. If I can help on teacher try something new I feel great! #LEADlap
We implemented orthographic mapping activities this year. It required Ts to re-evaluate how they did SG reading instruction. I provided PD & modeled during collaborative planning. Before I ever ask my Ts to do something, I model for them and we work through it. #LeadLAP
A5: Sharing your own unique voice as a leader, a teacher, and a student is a very powerful thing! I wouldn't be moderating today if I hadn't stepped out of my comfort zone. What are you afraid of? Go here for ideas and resources: https://t.co/X9DY3yUDpO#LeadLAP#shakeuplearning
A4b: The short version is do they see you taking risks? Often as leaders we hide or don’t share those risk taking moments. Transparency is huge and let’s people know you are not asking them to do something you aren’t #leadlap
A3 Connecting educators globally expands our idea and empathy bank. The more we connect and engage, the better we become as educators. Yes, @ASMILEwithAnna my twitter group has been a game changer! #leadlap
A4: Be the example. "I've never tried this before, but what do we have to lose?". It is a new mindset for some though, it may take time to change the culture. The ROGUE teachers will give it the momentum. Right? @RACzyz#leadlap
It's hard to keep it on the calendar, but I've learned from the best @BethHouf & @burgess_shelley that--you make time for what's important. So, I made that a part of my week. It was incredible the things I learned on-the-fly coaching my coaches. Loved it. #leadlap
In reply to
@me1odystacy, @BethHouf, @burgess_shelley
A4 I welcome dialogue and feedback. I respond to feedback and I am open whe I’m trying new things. We use humor, reflective practices, and celebrate when we try new things. #leadlap
A4: Sometimes full immersion into something new encourages risk taking! Create situations that require Ts to jump right in and find out that they can! #leadlap
A4: We implemented orthographic mapping activities this year. It required Ts to re-evaluate how they did SG reading instruction. I provided PD & modeled during collaborative planning. Before I ever ask my Ts to do something, I model for them and we work through it. #LeadLAP
A5: We use and live the hashtag #ownyourimpact. Started it for Ts and over the year, Ss adopted it too. Perfect guideline for learning, living, leading, and sharing. #leadlap
A4: I have gone into Ts classrooms & modeled lessons explaining that I don't know the classroom dynamics. While I may plan for things to go a certain way, they don't always. I tell them it's OK for them to do that as well;take a risk & try something new. #LeadLAP#ShakeUpLearning
A4: I try to stay completely positive about risk-taking. I love trying new methods and protocols in my classroom. Some work and some fail, but there is always a lesson in the outcome of taking a risk. I try to share outcomes vulnerably and authentically. #LeadLAP
A3: Technology removes SO MANY barriers! The possibilities are truly endless. @Twitter@voxer@Flipgrid@GoogleForEdu all remove the silos we used to be forced to learn & work in. Now being a connected educator is a MUST. #SayNOtoSilos#LeadLAP
You want to see their websites? Their blogs? I can share them. They patterned them after mine--as far as the framework and tying their reflections & blogs to professional standards. #leadlap
A4 Part 2: Share your own risks and their consequences - successes and fails. Include a Q that combines risk taking & growth mindset into the interview - this communicates from the beginning that risk is OK & reflection on risks to grow professionally is important. #leadlap
This is a hard one for teachers- scary to put yourself out there. BUT it becomes easier the more you do it. We have a moral obligation to SHARE with our fellow colleagues those things that work to help kids! #LeadLAP#kidsdeserveit
A5) Students I think are more willing to share. They are living in a digital age and especially when they are round of something they are open to sharing it! Ts I think it’s important to make connections. They need to know their ideas won’t be shot down #LEADlap
A5: Another mindset change. It's not bragging. It's #sharingiscaring When teachers can't go to other classrooms easily, this is how we embrace technology to break down the walls and get out of our silos. #LeadLAP#shakeuplearning
A5 By leading by example. I blog, join twitter chats, learn to use new technology and then talk about all of this to teachers. I share my excitement on what I have learnt and achieved and will offer to support anyone who would like to know more. #LeadLap
#leadLAP We have been working on transitionong to NGSS and developing OER curc to go with it. We have stumbled along the way, and Ts wanted to ditch the flexbook we created. It was important to recognize their frustration, but the great thing about OER was we could change it.
A5: Twitter of course and building communities around our learning! Take our learning experience outside of the classroom and school. Connect with the outside world! #LeadLAP
Can we talk about #PineappleCharts? I def failed at that one! Tried so many ways to keep it going, but nothing worked. The best alternative was our own verson of #edcamp which we called #SMEdCamp for Ts at our final staff mtg. #LeadLAP
Our school has digital portfolios for all our kids from K-5. It looks very different at each grade. We are having lots of discussions this year about what the purpose is. Great convos and learning. #LeadLAP
A5) Ts need to feel supported and trusted. We all need to shape the narrative of our districts though. Promote all the positive things going on in our schools. https://t.co/PYFlO7SLKT#LEADlap
I'm with you! The first time that I hit publish to a blog post I couldn't breathe and my heart was pounding so hard I thought I was going to have a heart attack! It does get easier :) #LeadLAP
A4: The most powerful thing I can do is model it. Principal? Or Lead Risk-Taker? I am always trying something different to move us forward on our #PathtoGreatness. Then, be transparent by reflecting on wins & lessons learned. #LeadLAP
A5: Allow then to share learning they are passionate about. Give them an avenue to share that they can personalize and knowing there is real and authentic audience is big. Sharing where no one will see it is empty in its value #leadlap
A5 I’m a big believer in finding your niche! Whether it’s fb, Twitter, blogging, presenting, or F2F, find what works for you and own it! Share & learn from one another! #leadlap
A5 We are focused on sharing our learning with each other. Cluster, digital portfolios, shared drive. Teachers, parents and I will share what’s happening digitally. The most dynamic extensions we have are service learning - learning from and giving back to community #leadlap
Being there elevates everyone’s game! Had to crucial convo a teacher once for marking tests at a pd session on trauma response! We expect professionalism but being present helps highlight that we’re serious about it #LeadLAP

A5: This year, @Seesaw with our littlest Thunderbirds (preK-K) & for our older ones we used @googleclassroom. Our Ts also used @ClassDojo to share the learning happening in school, on field trips and parents shared things happening at home. We also tried @Flipgrid#LeadLAP

Uncontrolled emotions equal an uncontrolled performance. Being in the zone is about clarity. You can’t have clarity when your emotions are driving your actions. #ALLIN#satchat#LEADLAP#edcochat
A2: Meet teachers where they are, let them set goals, support them consistently, give real-time feedback, and allow for reflection time. REPEAT! #LeadLAP
Yes I was the same. I could not believe that anyone would want to read what I had written but they did. I have since published articles in professional magazines because of my blogging which still amazes me. #LEADlap
True story, I once had a principal show a movie during staff dev: Napolean Dynamite. We were not allowed to do anything else but sit in the cafe and watch. #LeadLAP
A5 By leading by example. I blog, join twitter chats, learn to use new technology and then talk about all of this to teachers. I share my excitement on what I have learnt and achieved and will offer to support anyone who would like to know more. #LeadLap
A5: We’ve started encouraging Twitter usage. We have our own hashtag #WeAreSalyards and have twitter challenges among staff where they earn points for their teams. Winning team earns a prize at the end. Hopefully starting #KidTweets next year. #LEADlap#ShakeUpLearning
There is a problem with this. I’ve seen schools invalidate concerns by refusing to acknowledge problems. People’s lives experiences are erased because a school won’t recognize of validate those experiences publicly #leadLAP
A6 Compile a list you’ve found! I will admit some of the biggest resources I’ve found have been through twitter & book studies. Share and reshape to cultivate learning together! #leadlap
A4: I ❤️❤️❤️seeking out the greatness in our Ts/staff, connecting them w opportunities that let their genius shine, & letting them know I'll be right there w them. Then celebrate their courage! #LeadLAP
A2: We've found great success facilitating online district book studies that have empowered Ts to take learning and reflections back to their respective classes and schools. Also, we have choose your own learning opportunities available. #LeadLAP
There is a problem with this. I’ve experienced schools invalidate concerns by refusing to acknowledge problems. People’s lived experiences are erased because a school won’t recognize or validate those experiences publicly #leadLAP
A5: We really push the use of Twitter to showcase what is going on in the classroom. Bragging on kids is easy. Bragging on yourself, not so much. It’s important to show that we are life long learners. #LeadLAP#ShakeUpLearning
A5: Lead by example. If you want them to participate in Twitter chats, show examples of how you have done it. If you want them to post things online, show them what you have done. If you want them to connect with other classrooms, show them how! #LeadLAP#ShakeUpLearning
A6 Th his has been very helpful ch for me. So easy to go down rabbit hole! Looking to start @padlet for resources to share w/ colleagues. Hoping it will expand & grow #leadlap
A5: I created separate pages on social media for my classes to showcase their learning accomplishments in hopes that my colleagues would jump on the same bandwagon to connect within our school, with our community, and eventually beyond! #leadlap
A5: I have never thought of doing this! I love the idea of sharing!! There are some amazing things going on in my PLC, so I will need to look further into how we can share. #LeadLAP
A5: When I work with Ts, I share my experience using technology as a professional growth tool for learning and sharing. I recommend blogs, people to follow on Twitter, etc... as resources. Promoting learning from & sharing with the world is an area I need to grow in. #leadlap
A6) I share what I find with my PLN at my building and I often try and present at institute and @WITconference yearly new things I learn and dive into! I’m no expert but I love to share and discuss with others #LEADlap
A1: connecting learning appropriately through the UBD approach and considering how we can get the most out of our learning experiences in ways that are authentic and relevant. #LeadLAP
A6: I create folder in my Chrome bookmark bar and show T's how to do that. I also show them how to use the "about" section of Google Classroom or create a Google Site. So many ways, just depends on your organization style. #LeadLAP
A5: We have a shared school blog https://t.co/KJb0lXV6I0 where our Ts are guest bloggers each week. This lets them share their stories w the 🌎! This has been awesome to see their vulnerability & courage. #TMGenius#LeadLAP
Because its completely optional for teachers, we have one grade 2 class and one grade 5 class that don't do it. But the rest do. Our learning support teachers, our support staff do too. Its kind of awesome! #LeadLAP
A6: I mostly share via Google Drive & Classroom, but I'm excited to continue to share with the G-Site I'm building and launching in August for RCH staff! #VVSDlearns#LEADlap#TechnaciousTigers
A5: Ways to share your learning with the world:
- Tweet it out
- Blog your learning
- Go to an edcamp and share
- Start a conversation with a colleague
- Ask others what they’re trying that’s new... it’ll spark conversation where you can share, too.
#LeadLAP
A6: We attended a #PUBPD to learn new ways of incorporating technology. Some of my PLC members have shared their own personal experiences with available tech in the classroom. We learn from each other and from our extended PLN. #LeadLAP
A6: We just started a #HyperDocs repository for teachers to submit their creations to share via a Google Form that organizes content with #awesometable + #googleSites#LeadLAP
A6: We have an amazing group of educators who have curated lots of T resources on our T resource page of district website. I’m always surprised at how many Ts s don’t use it. #LeadLAP
A6 We use our online library catalogue to add websites recommended by teachers. This creates independent learners as S's can find books as well as websites from our online catalogue. #LeadLap
Yep! I like to have Ts do the original tweet (I can walk them through it if needed) then I RT theirs - that's pretty powerful. I also like to show the tweet analytics to Ss and Ts so they can see the impact they've had via impressions. #LeadLAP
Oh, and when you show them how to log in so it shows their name instead of the little shadowy figure and all their short cuts and extensions pop up. Mind blown! Lol! #LeadLAP
A4: Push the “What else?” and “What if?” during the planning phase, Ensure that the risk is aligned, appropriate, and authentic, Then go to bat for my teachers when admin and stakeholders question the teacher’s actions. I’m not afraid to push and pushback! #LeadLAP
I've been sharing a #CelebrateMonday email of resources/inspirational quotes etc. for the last 3+ years. Inspired by @smgaillard@ToddWhitaker People really look forward to Mondays now :) #LeadLAP
I created the site & we have a shared G Sheet where they sign up for dates. They choose the topic, write a draft on G Doc, get feedback from other staff. Then, they send to me & I publish. Easy-peasy & so powerful! We started it mid-year this yr. #LeadLAP
A6: I use #GoogleClassroom to share things I find. I also created this living document that I continually add to! https://t.co/YNqBumIBsV Ts have it in their bookmarks bar for easy access. #LeadLAP
A7: We have a committee of Ts that help set the priorities for PL. If we can, we have a couple topics/activities a day. If possible Ed Camp style PL. #LeadLAP
A7: Ts and Admin create professional growth plans for the year (or multi-year). I look for and share opportunities and resources to support those plans #LeadLAP
A7: EdCamps are a nice start. We've done two. A full day one. And a 1/2 day one, which was preceded by a great talk from @Jenni_Donohoo on Collective Teacher Efficacy. Both went great! #LeadLAP
A7: this is most important! We have hosted a conference for all middle school Ts (400) with sessions all day and they choose what to attend. We do it several times a year and offer for various subjects #leadlap
A7) Ts have the opportunity to present or create book clubs for Pd in our district. We have done decamps for institute and this year a pd committee was created to share thoughts with central office #LEADlap
This was chance meeting #LeadLAP Pearls of wisdom everywhere here! There’s a hockey rink and football field waiting for this momma to drop some athletes off at, so I have to bow out! Have a powerfulweek ahead 💪🏻
A6: I'm pretty hands on and enjoy 1-on-1 interaction showing Ts where to go and what's worked for me. Many times through PD or me stopping by I'll work with Ts to set up online accounts or find resources; but they must want that dialogue & support, otherwise it's 👎. #LeadLAP
It was never a required thing. We talked about benefits and how quick and easy it was. We offered sessions on how to use it. It just took off. #LeadLAP
A7II: We also tell our principals, what your staff needs to learn more about, based on the kids they have and their needs, we'll buy the books and run the book study for you. You get to learn along side and don't have to run the thing! #LeadLAP
A6 We use Padlet for evaluating websites and ask students to add websites for homework and say why they think it is a valuable source. In the lesson we look at the padlet and decide together what to keep. We then use this as our resources for the topic. #LeadLap
A7b: We also hold a #spark18 conference in August in which our district Ts present their best practices with others! It's really an exciting day! #LeadLAP
A6: I come with a toolbox of ideas, but I only pull out one tool at a time. I give the teachers what they need as they need them because the right tool at the wrong time is just as bad as not having the tool to begin with! #LeadLAP
A7: For PD, ask Ts where they would like to see their learning to develop and organize it around that. I also ask individual teachers if they would be willing to share their expertise. I try to have expertise come from within as much as possible. #LeadLAP#ShakeUpLearning
Q7: Set the objective and provide freedom for people to choice the tool to get them there. The big challenge is often that we can’t or won’t create with what we don’t know, so training is so important. Then ask for feedback #leadlap
A7: I'm presenting at a build-your-own schedule Summer PD Academy for VVSD PreK-5 staff, & I hope to bring along my @Flipgrid VoicePod so Ts can share their next steps after their sessions. I plan to share the vids district wide & beyond! #LEADlap#VVSDlearns
A6: This year we all received CB so we created team drives for all GL and have begun loading all resources there. I even made a team drive specific to LA resources. During collaborative planning, everyone has access to the agendas & can work simultaneously. #LeadLAP
A7- We use the goals that our teachers set to bring in resources and provide coaching as well as use our campus data to see campus needs for staff and students #LeadLAP
A7: Encouraging sharing, collaborating, and reflecting using @Twitter, allowing lead Ts to facilitate book studies and online PD, organizing PD adventures through @CanvasLMS to provide #choice#LeadLAP
A7: Mix in person and virtual options. Ask T's what they need first, then create PD opportunities from there. You may have some that don't participate, but often, #FOMO will kick in and they'll come around. #leadlap#shakeuplearning Make it meaningful and they will come.
A7 choice is easier now that there are so many options to learn online. Twitter chats, book groups, blogs and articles to read. Voice is harder as it takes courage to put yourself out there. Baby steps and lurking are always encouraged :) #LeadLap
A7: Lots of our PD is T-choice & T-led. Summer book studies, school Twitter chats, school blog, mini edcamps during the school year. It really is more the norm for us. Commitment over compliance. It is a huge part of our school culture. #LeadLAP
I'd love to see our Ts share out like this! There's so much knowledge in our educators that we rarely tap into trying to remain student centered that we miss all the amazing stuff happening right next door! #geniusteacherhour#LeadLAP
A7 My new district has a beginning of year PD where learners choose their schedule all day. I love the Edcamp style. There’s so much to learn from eachother. #leadlap
A7: I LOVE bringing elements of the edcamp model into campus or district PD. It’s a realy great experience to get out of the way as the leader & let teachers learn from other teachers.
Here’s one way we brought edcamp to our campus last year: https://t.co/6HFHll99p1#LeadLAP
A7: We seek staff feedback on PD topics using a survey tool and design PD options around the high interest topics. 4 to 5 different sessions are offered during each meeting and are often led by Ts in the building or district. Ts choose which session to attend. #leadlap
The growth plans are open to anything that relates to professional development/growth. I also encourage my Ts to submit partner and group plans to build in on-site support networks #LeadLAP
A7: I provide All Teachers in our district with 7 hours of extra hour pay to attend any Pd of their choice, which can include planning with others, conferences, Edcamp, online learning. Some even go to the AppleStore for training. #LeadLAP
A7: This is my favorite question! Just like we want students to be agents of their own learning, our staff should be too! Interests, aptitudes, and skills should all be considered for teachers’ professional learning! #LeadLAP
A3: We have so much access to connect with people and experts all over the world! This is why Cross-curricular learning is soooo important. When we connect our learning across contents, we will find many avenues to connect our learning across the globe. #LeadLAP
A7: #Edcamp style PD promotes voice & choice. Ts lead & choose which sessions to attend. If it doesn’t suit them, they move on to another session. Best PD around! #leadlap
Asking Ts what they want to know more about is BIIIIG! Sometimes, they don't know what they don't know though. So each year I offer 5 digital PD sessions and Ts must choose 3, but can attend all if they'd like. #LeadLAP
As I have come to expect, the #LeadLAP crew brought it this morning! Thank you for your awesome insights and special thanks to @ShakeUpLearning for leading us today
A7: My district is creating PLPs (Personal Learning Plans) and each T is setting his/her own goals and being given time to research and form PLCs. #LeadLap#shakeuplearning
Totally agree, especially when learning/pd is self directed. Wish more states/districts would give credit for this. Many ppl balk because "it doesn't count ". #LeadLAP#shakeuplearning

BYE Y'ALL!
As always - #LeadLAP doesn't disappoint! Don't forget to follow one another - I rely on my #pln for inspiration! Thank you @ShakeUpLearning for asking the right questions to get me thinking about Dynamic Professional Learning. #shakeuplearning
A7: Many Ts across our district come to me with ideas for PD offerings that they want to facilitate. Our district wide Book study began with a T about 130 Ts participated this year #LeadLAP
