Good evening #mdeschat leaders! Greg- K, #TeamFelegy. Excited to STEP UP tonight with each of you. Take a moment to tell us about yourself, and identify one celebration from this last week that you can share.
My celebration is the literacy growth my Ss have shown thus far. Excited to be able to travel a bit for spring break. Looking forward to relax. #mdeschat
A1. The first step is to value each student for who they are and celebrate their strengths. Sometimes they just need to hear that someone believes in them. Give each student the opportunity to have a voice that is heard #mdeschat
A1- Opportunities, modeling, consistent use of the language of leadership. Develop a leadership mindset in the classroom. Make it contagious. #mdeschat
I agree and it can't be just for special occasions, it needs to become part of the classroom culture. Ss should be able to share their ideas and questions others ideas as well #mdeschat
A3: I am looking into summer professional Development opportunities like ones offered at all the amazing organizations in DC! We have access to so many amazing groups that can be a support to our growth which ultimately impacts students! #mdeschat
A1: Facilitating student learning requires listening and learning from students how to situate the curriculum in a way that motivates and inspires them to share their knowledge. This creates a culture where learning and collaboration is valued. #mdeschat
A3 #mdeschat I'm always looking into gaining new ideas from my colleagues on engaging activities to challenge my students and help them grow. Glad to join everyone!
A3: I keep a professional journal where I reflect on my practices weekly, and those places where I need polish, I seek out PD or research for self learning #mdeschat
I am attending a summer workshop at Delta State Univ entitled The Most Southern Place on Earth: Music, Culture and History of the Mississippi Delta. To learn about #FannieLouHamer and The Delta #mdeschat
A2: Students need a criteria for success where the standards and skills have been modeled and tried in a safe space where they have had a chance to fail, receive feedback, and mid-course correct. Modeling should be from all within the community. #mdeschat
A4:) Anything I find interesting, and especially interesting problems, I bring to the table and get ridiculously excited about them. The kids respond to my enthusiasm and love when they can fix things I don’t seem to be able to. 😉#mdeschat
Hi #mdeschat! I’m very absorbed in tonight’s PGCPS board meeting. I’ll catch up later, but happy Easter and Passover to all who celebrate! Enjoy your break, no matter how short!
Great place to insert service-learning, which deepens learning, partnerships, and brings new solutions toward improving social conditions within the community. #mdeschat
A4: The students at #LaurelHighSchool transformed into activists this quarter by planning a week-long program related to the #EnoughIsEnough movement including selling Orange T-shirts that they wear proudly! #Mdeschat#Empower
A5: I shared with my 4th period World History co-teacher just how much he impacts the students. Sometimes an encouraging world to look at the data brings a smile to someone's face! #mdeschat
Professional learning begins and ends with student assessment data. The data informs the kinds of learning needed to improve outcomes. Inquiry helps adult learners identify where data intersects further informing next steps of learning. #mdeschat
A4- Build growth mindset from day 1. Display person passion for learning. Passion is contagious. Growth-minded dialogue becomes part of the classroom lexicon. #mdeschat
A5:) -started an informal @GroupMe for the Functional Life Skills teachers in our district. We are so far removed from everyone, this gives us the opportunity to informally & confidentially share our happiness & woes. #SPEDchat#mdeschat

I have a first year teacher on my team. I try to suggest only when she asks for help. She has a lot of great ideas and I figure letting her find herself in the classroom is more important than trying to persuade her to do things exactly like me. #mdeschat
A5: Sometimes my fellow educators just need a shoulder to lean on or someone to listen to what they have to say. I'm always willing to lend a helping hand to other educators and provide encouragement! #mdeschat
We were required to do this after every lesson in internships, tutoring, and student teaching @StBonaventure during undergrad. It was the biggest tool I still use daily. Just maybe not always written. #mdeschat

Excited about the number of people who chose to STEP UP tonight! This conversation is flying by. Trying hard to keep up, but enjoying it to the fullest. #mdeschat
A6 I encourage them to begin the process of helping their children self advocate. When I'm responding to emails I always read student emails first #mdeschat
A5- Be a willing listener, first and foremost. Be willing to share when asked, and be a supportive smile. Joy is contagious, and is a game changer. #mdeschat
#Agreed Only if the assessment is valid & reliable, & if the teachers have the capacity 2 decipher what the assement is telling as far as Ss strengths & weaknesses. Too often we look at a test score & no further. #mdeschat
Reflection is an exercise that aims to improve future performance by studying the past. High performing athletes engage in reflection so should ALL levels of practitioners. #mdeschat

Assessment for the sake of assessment is just a time consumer. Purposeful assessment that can provide meaningful data to hone in on Ss areas of need and drive future instruction to promote Ss growth is important. #mdeschat

I added a good call/email home to part of my PBIS rewards. It's the cheapest thing on the list and the kids tell me exactly what you say. One kid made a deal with her parents hunting on a positive call home. #mdeschat#workingthesystem
Reflect:) Your supporting the parents question stopped me in my tracks! 👍 I think it was meant-to-be, being in your chat #mdeschat . My take-away tonight is to be mindful of supporting parents vs. thinking critically when they do something I doing like.
Time is my biggest barrier. I could step up more at finding more effective ways to engage students. Second to time is #familyfirst although I am making huge strides in time management thanks to @Angela_Watson and her Truth for Teachers podcast. Every T needs these tools #mdeschat
