#2ndaryELA is a group of middle and high school English Language Arts teachers looking to share ideas and best practices. We chat every Tuesday night at 8 pm EST using #2ndaryELA. We'd love for you to join us!
A1 We have 3 teams of teachers for each grade. In each team there are 2 ELA teachers. This gives us 6 ELA teachers per grade. It is such a blessing to have so many other teachers to plan with! #2ndaryELA
A1 I'm at a K-8 school. K-5 teach all subjects. The three 6th grade teachers including myself all teach ELA and another subject. Then there's a 7-8 ELA teacher #2ndaryela
I reach out to my great PLN, don't reinvent the wheel, and try to give Ss time and space to work rather than coming up with endless activities. Still tough though! #2ndaryela
A2: All grade level ELA teachers meet at least once a week to plan out the next week and discuss data. We usually go in with a set of goals that we know HAVE to be accomplished and divide up the workload. #2ndaryELA
That's great! I only meet with one counterpart. We're hanging on day to day, so we'll meet with the other two ELA Ts in our grade when we can... #2ndaryela

A3 Thankfully that isn't an issue for me this year, but it is really tough to deal with. I always want to help others and feel selfish holding back, but I also don't want to be taken advantage of #2ndaryela
A3 When other teachers who are all take and no give have asked for my materials in the past, I always say let's meet and do some planning together. They don't usually want to put in the time and will back off #2ndaryELA
A3: I don't think it's a question of "pulling their weight." Every person has a life outside of school. We can have back-up plans, and then discussions if things aren't going well. #2ndaryela
A2: English I and II, because they're both state-tested subjects, meet for an hour each day in PLC to plan. We have an agenda we follow each day, but sometimes we have to fight for that time to be effective. #2ndaryELA
A3: I've been fortunate to work with a team that each cares a lot about their job and works hard, so this isn't a problem I've had to deal with. #2ndaryELA
A4 There's a few of the negative Nellie's in every building. When cornered, I'll hear them out, but say as little as possible. If I can get away, I do #2ndaryela
A4 It is the constantly negative parents that I have more trouble dealing with. I can't avoid them or politely walk away from them the same way I can with a coworker #2ndaryela
A4: I try to be positive. It's easy to become negative as well, especially if the environment you work in feels restricting. It's important to look for the positive in everything. #2ndaryELA
