I love memes 4 edu. I tried a crowdsourcing project 4 ones to use w/Ss a while back--sadly, didn't go 2 far
Hey! I'm working on improving Twitter Chat skills & of course writing lesson plans. I'm a 4th grade teacher from St. Augustine
Ditto! I'm not usually too successful w/all 3 at once though.
Glad to see you again Chris!
I'm Chantell & I teach a departmentalized 4th gr + class.
tonight should be easy - unless you have a lot of meme/'quotes you like to share - then good luck :)
Wait. I think we need to strategize and discuss this.
Just eternal thunderstorms most of weekend - surf was up tho'
Probably because half of the ones you find can't be used with students :) https://t.co/YhhVQFjVJn
I love memes 4 edu. I tried a crowdsourcing project 4 ones to use w/Ss a while back--sadly, didn't go 2 far
we prepped but had 3 days of sunshine. Best way to deal with a storm in my opinion! :)
Thanks for joining us Jacqui!
Thanks for joining us Chantell!
maybe it's a tool AND a strategy...
I love the quote that "Great leaders inspire others to be great leaders"
maybe. Think it's a tool though. Philosophy, teaching style, etc. can be strategy ....
"Do you know what they call a leader without followers...just a guy going on a walk" Great leadership quote from
"Yes kids love technology, but they also love legos, scented markers, handstands, books and mud puddles. It’s all about balance"
This is wonderful! I love it! Great choice!
That's a fun one, Justin!
you are now one of my favorites. You get a follow
I should have made a Craig yen leadership meme
I'm now making this my motto.
Great quote! Are you sure this is your first chat? :) https://t.co/sCHW9zZEIX
"Yes kids love technology, but they also love legos, scented markers, handstands, books and mud puddles. It’s all about balance"
Thanks for joining us - we are just getting started with on
Well, at least the handstands part is :)
A2: Make it a great day or not the choice is yours!
A2: Learn Like a Champion
A2. Would play Kid President videos 4 Ss on cold mornings to get them thinking be4 they went to class. https://t.co/h9zbro08CO
RT A2: Learn Like a Champion
A2: I also saw this today, not sure who posted it - but I agree it could help inspire students https://t.co/FhR51snJx2
I cannot get enough of the Kid President!
Nice! Sounds like a fun one! I just kissed the kids goodnight, so I will most likely be around for the rest!
Third grade teacher from California.
Hi , tuning in late here from NC - excited to get techie!
Q3 What quote or do you here the most?
she is going to kill you. I take no responsibility
I love this, Meredith! Is this at your school?
I have them for everyone but Sharon
This one has made the rounds recently. As funny as it is true!
Well, it's the thought that counts . . . https://t.co/qkvk1xDdqa
she is going to kill you. I take no responsibility
so this is up every time you use a projector? that is awesome - I need to set up our laptops for that!
over here? Or right here?
Oh I hear an evil giggle from our nation's capitol https://t.co/FiskmlOA7L
what type of death should I look forward to
Yes, I forgot about it until I plugged in this past week. I use split screen so I don't see it unless I project.
"best for kids" funny how we cherry pick what we like and ignore what we don't
A3: People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. (John Maxwell and perhaps others)
Not you - Nathan - I am sure she appreciated being missed - but will get at some point
I really didn't want to be the one to call it out.
Q3 What quote or do you hear the most?
You're welcome! It's really 's work! I heard some of my Ss reading it out loud today! :)
I hear "Practice what you preach" a lot... Good reminder to do the things we say!
I was looking for Pearson X Terminator 2 meme the other day. Can't find.
I completely agree with you on that one!
My voice often shakes, but I have things to say, so this resonates with me.
we must make learning fun/engaging. Have ss move Focus on them not curriculum. Laugh smile enjoy school
I made it. I ought to have it
You made these! Wow! I enjoy them very much! :)
You've got quite the collection here.
Q4 with so many quotes and being tweeted and used, are they losing their effectiveness?
A4) I don't think they are losing their effectiveness. Most likely they're new to someone.
A4: For those who keep seeing the same ones, yes. If they're new to you, no. https://t.co/yq3JIS3GeN
Q4 with so many quotes and being tweeted and used, are they losing their effectiveness?
A4. If they were losing their effectiveness I wouldn't see the responses from others. They strike a chord w/ educators.
I do not think that memes lose effectiveness because they are all so different and always bring up new conversation!
A4 I Agree I see a lot that say the exact same thing
A4: I try to create fresh and non-derivative ones. Just want to inspire! It's my heartbeat! https://t.co/cSx6xs23MR
Q4 with so many quotes and being tweeted and used, are they losing their effectiveness?
A4: Depth over breadth, even w/ memes. Take a few per week, reflect. Retweet or 'heart' to archive https://t.co/1RTUGDfH2s
Q4 with so many quotes and being tweeted and used, are they losing their effectiveness?
A4: I do not think that memes lose effectiveness because they are all so different and always bring up new conversation!
A4: They lose effectiveness only if they represent the full depth of your educational philosophy or strategy
Were they ever effective?
I now go for funny and inspiring combination
great question. I ignore the serious ones
theya re attention getters, but they are clearly only a first step
. Hahaha! Yes! Alex wins Q4!
A4: At times, we need a reminder or some inspiration. If you feel the need to share it, others may need to see it as well.
A4: If people keep remixing and making memes their own, old becomes new.
A4. Post about Ts "tweeting one thing each day" earned 1,117 impressions in Feb 2015 and 13.3K impressions in Aug. of 2016.
I am naturally reading it in his voice!
A4 No, Ts aren't able to capture all but might find what they need when least expected. The JIT effect of Twitter
I love this one. It might be the one I have said the most lately.
I still watch regularly - awesome ideas and concepts in there
A4. Of course had his book published and over time I have gained more followers too.
Circle of life I guess. Or something along those lines.
RT RT : A4: If people keep remixing and making memes their own, old becomes new.
that deserves a lion king meme
JIT is an acronym too now? Just when I had finally mastered TLDR!
Winner of the wittiest back to school chat
Q5 is pulling into the drive
I just finished watching the seven season run last spring for the fourth time.
We all liked it, but how many of us took the time to do it? That would be an interesting stat!
. sorry, I meant to say just-in-time (JIT)
Q5 Why do you think we try to reduce education to a quote?
Just In Time (JIT) - been in CS for quite a while.
Oh yes! It certainly would be. I see MANY schools tweeting compared to a year ago. <- is that a statistic ::grin::
A6) Quotes fit nicely into 140 characters. They do draw people in and lead to conversation.
A5: Because we've chosen Twitter as our medium and it calls for catchy brevity?
A5. Ts love something simplistic when their days are so filled w/ juggling 100's of things and making decisions @ speed of light
A5: Education can often bring about many subtopics, so I think people try and display one quote to sum up their main views!
RT A6) Quotes fit nicely into 140 characters. They do draw people in and lead to conversation.
A5) Quotes fit nicely into 140 characters. They do draw people in and lead to conversation.
A5. Graphics also appeal to our visual mode of learning.
A5: People want to make sense of the crazy. & it hooks people in. https://t.co/OPZBWJNXSI
Q5 Why do you think we try to reduce education to a quote?
A5 - distill one key idea that hopefully resonates and leads to thoughtful follow up dialogue
A5: My concern is that pithy quotes provide little specificity, & give us warm fuzzies without requiring accountability :(
I tend to agree with this perspective! https://t.co/qo4ZBvOZJ1
A5 - distill one key idea that hopefully resonates and leads to thoughtful follow up dialogue
A5: We are looking for simplicity married to someone else's authority. But we often confuse it with insight.
But seriously, quotes distill the most important point & let you imprint your own personal meaning https://t.co/0WKAew54nx
A5. Often quotes are connected with a blog posting that expands communication in depth.
A6 Effective: Allow us to make a thought provoking statement to entice Ts, Ss, and your tweeps to think and reflect.
Edu is complex & messy. It's nice to have some truths distilled & be reminded of core values and goals.
A5: Quotes- easy to remember, diffuse, and use.
. When we voluntarily engage online about education after our work day is done is accountability really an issue?
A5. Sometimes quotes are as simple as this one but, my, oh my was it ever posted by LOTS of people. https://t.co/Sh8HY6Pbt6
A5: Deep communication can be expressed in few words. 6 word stories, ignite...
RT A5: Quotes- easy to remember, diffuse, and use.
Agree that it is necessary to expand on points made with a tweet. Blogs and websites can provide that venue.
Headlines help us distill gargantuan topics into a point we can nod our heads & say yes-I get that https://t.co/DRMewQup6N
You forgot snark, which does have its uses :-)
I have loved your answers tonight!
. And it's eye pleasing, true, and might just make its readers actually go and smile at someone. Nice!
A5: Easy for others to make a quick connection.
A5. Perhaps the quote or graphic begins a person on the path of reflection and what could be better?
Catchy rhyme! 'Remember, diffuse and use.' It could be beginning of a poem!
Some might not be motivated as us here to actually implement change following meme-based inspiration. https://t.co/zyn0K3pTmZ
. When we voluntarily engage online about education after our work day is done is accountability really an issue?
Q6 any other random Thoughts about quotes or
A4: I don't think so. If U need 2 see/feel it, the right quote will find U. But with so many I've become a quote snob ;-)
R5: Edu is full of people who love us, inspire us, and give us hope. These quotes are simple & make us feel similar feelings
A6: What do you all use to create gorgeous, non-lame ones? I use Canva.
Well said. https://t.co/7SniuzXvVf
R5: Edu is full of people who love us, inspire us, and give us hope. These quotes are simple & make us feel similar feelings
A6: I have noticed throughout my time spent with young students that memes are very popular and get the point across!
. Exactly! We need not wax philosophical to receive something that is both inspirational and actionable!
Agree. I often use a quote to entice folks to watch a video or read a blog. They're great attention getters.
A6 YES! Know your quotes! Einstein didn't say that judge a fish climb a tree quote!! If ur ma says she loves u check ur sources!
Sometimes I create them- my son walking along Mississippi River when we lived there. Great way to share. https://t.co/DPt8WdBNce
I personally LOVE Canva! I just used that to make something for a class actually!
Quotes help you feel connected to educators & inspiration past & present - they let you move & reflect & act. Quote on!
It might be innovative, but it's less likely insight. True.
Just remember they are a great snack, but there is a lot more to their ideas that we need to share!
Awesome! Thank you. Anyone else use something better? https://t.co/UuT0zrfgo9
I personally LOVE Canva! I just used that to make something for a class actually!
Glad I'm not the only one that knows about the fake Einstein quote. Doesnt even sound like him.
Having worked 4 papers I know headlines can be misleading. Often they don't distill so much as try 2 hook w/drama.
Thanks for joining us and enjoy the last of you Labor Day
. Yes! Sometimes it's just the one thing you need to hear or see that sparks a moment of awesome!
