Good morning! As a ‘newer’ teacher, I can’t really speak to that, but I would say that the biggest impact on my teaching has been the #shiftthis move towards empowering kiddos in the classroom. Having them own their learning and environment. It made a huge change for me #bfc530
  • MrU_ishere Jan 9 @ 5:32 AM EST
G'mornin', #bfc530! Woke up early, made the mistake of socialmedia-ing before being other-productive. Stumbled upon author @racheltoalson and am now fascinated and intrigued. #rabbitholemorning

Personalized Professional Development! Twitter too! Getting the PD I want and choose 😊👍🏻 #bfc530
  • carlameyrink Jan 9 @ 5:34 AM EST
Good morning #bfc530! For me, the biggest change has been our move towards going gradeless. Although we still have grades in secondary, the focus is on conferencing to support S self-assessment in all subjects (not just ELA)
  • kathyiwanicki Jan 9 @ 5:35 AM EST
@twitter has been most influential. Everything starts there for me! #bfc530
  • MrTravisDrake Jan 9 @ 5:35 AM EST
I attempt to grow/change as every year goes by. With each, the newest change becomes the freshest and most important. Currently it is to have grades be a true reflection of mastery and updating grades when mastery is achieved. I'm still working on what % should be mastery.#bfc530

Least restrictive environment for Ss with special needs. Their inclusion in the general ed classroom has made me professionally bulk up with skills that all Ss have benefited from #BFC530
  • CoachKCullen Jan 9 @ 5:35 AM EST
Edu-Twitter I love hearing & discussing educational thoughts & we just do not have the time to do that within the school day, even though we all agree sharing & listening to ideas is how we grow. My students have benefited from the discussions I have had here. #bfc530
  • MrU_ishere Jan 9 @ 5:35 AM EST
My gut response is access to others' teaching via chats like these. Or technology providing voice & opty to our Ss. But I can't get away from the impact of #SEL and relationship-building has on creating a more positive & productive learning climate. #bfc530

I honk the best #edutrend in the past 20 years is the increased connectivity amongst educators. The sharing of ideas has revolutionized education. #bfc530

I think the more toward project based learning has been very positive. Getting away from one right answer, multiple choice, etc. and giving students the space to explore and dig into their own learning. #bfc530 #PBL

Social media -- primarily Twitter -- has empowered me to take control of my professional development. The information is great, the strategies are inspiring, and the people I've connected with are awesome!! #bfc530
  • kmurfitt1 Jan 9 @ 5:37 AM EST
I think that one of the greatest #edutrends is that educators and students are actively seeking connection and collaboration. They are flattening the walls and reaching out beyond their classrooms and schools. #bfc530

  • TCMSPrincipal Jan 9 @ 5:37 AM EST
Don't get me wrong. It's still not great. But it is less punitive to Ts & schools, and now more focused on growth of the S, which is a start! #bfc530

Getting National Board Certified hands down. Changed who I am as a teacher by making me think deeply about good teaching practices. Best PD a teacher can do if they put their whole heart into it. #BFC530

Morning #bfc530 I am going to say I love the "trend" that I see with students being encouraged to by "Up-standers" to help reduce bullying. I see much less against the #LGBTQ community:)
  • Holcombca Jan 9 @ 5:38 AM EST
The biggest trend for me is moving to a more digital classroom. I am using Blackboard and Google classroom. #bfc530
  • MrU_ishere Jan 9 @ 5:38 AM EST
Yes! Not *just* the sharing, but the actual spreading & building-upon of revolutionary ideas. #bfc530
    In reply to @DennisDill
  • bohndrake Jan 9 @ 5:38 AM EST
Well #bfc530, maybe I should answer the question too. My biggest “ trend” in the past ten years has been switching to a flipped classroom. It’s made so many positive changes
  • abbeydick Jan 9 @ 5:39 AM EST
#bfc530 I think I've been most impacted by the thinking around inclusive practices and differentiation and UDL. The idea that all kids deserve the best opportunity to learn that's right for them. I've learned so much about helping all kids in the same space.
  • edumichellefinn Jan 9 @ 5:39 AM EST
Good morning all, happy Wednesday! For me the most powerful has been the shift in grading practices... grading for learning, removing behavior from the mix into a separate data point, flexible pacing, additional time/paths toward mastery, student voice & choice, etc. #bfc530
    In reply to @BFC_530, @MrU_ishere
  • rharwood17 Jan 9 @ 5:39 AM EST
Greetings #bfc530 friends. Its been a while. I'd say the biggest #edutrend w/ positive impact has been building a #PLN through #Twitter. Its opened up a whole new world.
  • amber_grohs Jan 9 @ 5:39 AM EST
I would have to say TWITTER! From twitter I’ve connected w/ other educators, learned so much, discussed and shared thoughts & ideas. #BFC530
  • wheeler_laura Jan 9 @ 5:39 AM EST
Gotta echo the thoughts of @ChrisQuinn64 & say online T communities like the #MTBoS (math Twitter blogosphere) & #BFC530!

  • rharwood17 Jan 9 @ 5:40 AM EST
2nd trend would be inquiry based learning that I've seen in international schools. I love seeing kids encouraged to pursue their own interests and ask hard questions #bfc530
  • bridget_adam Jan 9 @ 5:40 AM EST
I don’t think it is a “trend,” necessarily, but focusing on progress, not perfection has helped me and my students grow (growth mindset)! #bfc530
  • MrTravisDrake Jan 9 @ 5:40 AM EST
We are not standards based yet, but I'm using it to reflect their A-F grade. It's not the easiest thing to track, plus I can't update after the grading period closes and then they master. #bfc530
    In reply to @bridget_adam
  • DennisDill Jan 9 @ 5:40 AM EST
I think the strange point here is that there has been a push toward project based learning while at the same time schools have been removing project based classes like Wood Shop, Home Ec, Metal Shop, Art #bfc530
    In reply to @BrianHerb17
  • mearnshaw158 Jan 9 @ 5:41 AM EST
Social Media. We are able to connect on such a global level. I have learned so much in the last 7 months but being active onn Twitter. Has made such an impact on my leadership & also roles into my personal life! https://t.co/KXU5KOtouZ #bfc530

Have a wonderful Wednesday, all! I’m off to elliptical land! 😊 #bfc530
  • TCMSPrincipal Jan 9 @ 5:41 AM EST
I also think another trend is the global focus of curriculum & solving real world problems by young people. They really want the world to be a better place b/c of them #bfc530
  • carlameyrink Jan 9 @ 5:41 AM EST
In the last 4 years our efforts to individualize our weekly PD has had a strong impact. It's not easy to make all Ts happy or to meet everyone's needs, but I think we've finally figured it out! #bfc530

Good morning everyone. The biggest change for me in the last 10 years has been the lessening of emphasis on homework and the increase of project based, collaborative curriculum. Tons more global connections. #BFC530

The data that pinpoints achievement gaps beginning at infancy. It changed how I experience s defificits, proficiencies and surplus in the class room. #BFC530
  • DebbiSab Jan 9 @ 5:42 AM EST
For so many of us @rharwood17! We had a parent oreitation for incoming 9th graders last night and I was encouraging a fellow teacher to use Twitter for PD:) Of course I plugged #BFC530
  • ACTforEducation Jan 9 @ 5:42 AM EST
The trends I love that I have seen are a larger focus on #SEL, a renewed understanding of multiple pathways to postsecondary success and a focus on real world #servicelearning and helping students at all ages see that they can make a difference. #BFC530
  • SusZanti5 Jan 9 @ 5:42 AM EST
There have been more amazing #edutrends in the last 10 years than my whole career, the #shift has changed the way we teach & learn! #bfc530
  • carlameyrink Jan 9 @ 5:42 AM EST
Yes, this is so important! For Ts as well as Ss. #bfc530

Agreed. However, now some of those are being replaced by #makerspaces or #STEAM classes. I do wish those hands on classes were a bigger emphasis though. #bfc530

  • theVogelman Jan 9 @ 5:43 AM EST
Sharing has become more common in education in the past ten years. Sharing resources and ideas on Twitter, reading recs between Ts and Ss, sharing S writing with more authentic audiences, podcasts that share practical tips and solid reasons for Ts to invite change. #BFC530
  • MrTravisDrake Jan 9 @ 5:43 AM EST
I wanted to share this with the #bfc530 crew. Justify is my #OneWord2019. If I can't justify why I am doing something, then I'm not going to do it.
  • rharwood17 Jan 9 @ 5:43 AM EST
I avoid assigning homework as much as possible. I just don't see the point of piling on work for middle schoolers. #bfc530

For sure the advent of T communities on Twitter and more broadly the Web 2.0 tools that emerged. In Australia, #eLearning started to become a normal part of T practice, even embedded in Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (2.6.2). See https://t.co/41S9IjfntZ #bfc530

Dennis, in my opinion, it's about the process more than the product. Students can learn through the design process the same regardless of the material you are working with. My kids are just as proud of their work out of cardboard as they are about wood. #bfc530
