A1. My stress level is always high, but only because my students deserve the best and I want to provide them with the best learning opportunities available. #EdTechChat
A1: As an over-preparer and precrastinator, my stress level has remained fairly constant. Relationships and preparation make a huge difference.
#edtechchat
A1 Stress at the beginning of the year is always very high as #techdir and usually levels in early Nov. Spent some time in the hospital so am focused on keeping stress down now! #edtechchat
A1: I always find end of the year a bit more stressful. For me, Beginning = goalsetting, etc. End = Reflecting on how well you achieved those goals, etc, which I personally find a bit more stressful (esp. if cramming to finish those goals 😂) #edtechchat
A1 about the same at the beginning as now, though for different reasons. Then, it was being ready to deliver the AP content in general, now, its more about how well im prepping students for the test. #edtechchat
A1 I am probably about the same, maybe slightly higher stress, but now I feel the pressure of getting things done that I want and feel like time is flying by #edtechchat
A2: The tasks surrounding my job generally do not stress me out. It's when they pile up and there's not enough time in the day that the stress levels start to rise. It doesn't happen that often. I work with a great team that supports each other. #edtechchat
A2 Compliance tasks stress me out when it is something that should have already been done. Take care of what needs to be done so we can focus on what amazing things COULD be done! #edtechchat
Q2: Not being consulting on PD offerings and how to do them is also stressful. Agreed to @Stella_Pollard
with the need to ditch one-size-fits all PD!
#edtechchat
I always feel like this question is a prefect example for kids who wonder when they'll use math/equations again. "So you can figure out just how little you need to do to get the mark you want." #edtechchat
AGREED! Sometimes pessimism sneaks in and I wonder if by the time Ss get to HS they’ve gotten so good at playing school that learning might not seem that lucrative.🤔
#edtechchat
What bugs me is that they are trying to do the least amount possible...I printed the "An emergency on your part does not constitute a priority on mine" sign and taped it to my fridge behind my desk...I just point to it and say DO THE WORK! #edtechchat
Well, I have to run off to see my son sing Christmas carols and my daughter sit on an Indonesian Santa’s lap…have a wonderful #WinterBreak everyone…DESTRESS! See you in January! #EdTechChat
we have a group chat ... it acts as a great stress reliever especially when we start sending gifs ... this is the one I sent when i found out the phone dinged ... not very mature, but funny #edtechchat
It works both ways. Stressful for the kids who need to do awesome all of a sudden (after not willingly doing much) to pass, but can be a huge relief to the students who have been working really hard and doing well, to realize it's actually not a "big deal" test. #edtechchat
A3: @classcraftgame -- because of them, Classroom Management is so so much more engaging for the students (and for me!)
Also love Google Classroom, Goobric, and Docotopus! #edtechchat
A3 Task management software like a helpdesk and Google Keep help me stay organized, but there is something to be said for the calming power of #music. Might be jazz, might be Metallica, but it is calming for me! #edtechchat
A3: @trello is a rockstar! When it comes to my #yearbook class, Trello helps me manage the production and the staff. When all that relies on teenage commitment, I need a rockstar in my life!
#edtechchat
A3 Task management software like a helpdesk and Google Keep help me stay organized, but there is something to be said for the calming power of #music. Might be jazz, might be Metallica, but it is calming for me! #edtechchat
A3 - tools: @netflix, sleeping/naps, calendars, hiding all notifications, going out for lunch with friends, venting to those who understand. #edtechchat
A3: I used to say "aggressive calendaring". That helps, but now my number 1 tool is just asking "do I really have time for this right now?" #edtechchat
#edtechchat I crochet quilt and lots of other crafts I taught myself how to do temari balls this year. Took up belly dancing for about 6 years and am now looking for hula classes
A3: For me, it helps to look at the bigger picture and appreciate those around me. Of course more practical tools like Calendar are alway helpful 😍 #edtechchat
Q4: Student stress rises around tests, big project due dates, presentations, etc. But also in many cases when asked to break out of traditional edu confines....
#edtechchat
A4. Testing takes it own special toll on students and teachers. But right now, students are bracing for report cards - what they need to do to get grades up.
#edtechchat
A3: Probably blasphemy, but I unplug from school related tech for the most part when I am home. (FYI—-this doesn’t count as it is my personal PD/learning choice). Connecting with others and THINKING is rejuvenating. #edtechchat
A4 Ss see us on our best and worst days... telegraphing stress over work issues, new #edtech, whatever bothers you can stress your students too! #hitchhikersguide#dontpanic#edtechchat
Q4: In a school where we're trying to shift away from the traditional (sit in rows, teacher at front directing learning, etc.), we've realized students now struggle with now being given all the directions...
#edtechchat
A4: Grades.
They stress us out, they stress them out, and they’re not reliable. As @markbarnes19 said in his most recent #HackLearning Podcast, parents are really the ones who are so focused on grades. This needs to be a shift for K-12 and beyond. #EdTechChat
A4: A bit of a throwback response, but - GRADES!!! It hurts to see Ss scrubbing their gradebook app to see what “points” are needed to get that perfect grade. 💔
#edtechchat
A4. Stressed Ts = Stressed Ss. We also have to realize they are people too. Don't give them more than is necessary or in a way that'd stress you out. #edtechchat
Agreed. Too often we are making them fit a system designed for our grandparents, not even close to the way students today learn nor preparing them for what may be in their future.
#edtechchat
It makes me wonder if the awesomeness of easily graded tests on our LMS are worth it in terms of student comfort with writing with pen and paper. Standardized tests and AP exams are a format that needs to be practiced for maximum comfort #edtechchat
Agreed. Too often we are making them fit a system designed for our grandparents, not even close to the way students today learn nor preparing them for what may be in their future.
#edtechchat
A4: This time of year for many of our ss they have no idea what is happening each evening, weekend, or over break. Where am I going, who is going to get along, etc. I would say the unknown is a big stressor! #edtechchat
Agreed. Too often we are making them fit a system designed for our grandparents, not even close to the way students today learn nor preparing them for what may be in their future.
#edtechchat
A6 Reducing stress is always challenging. They almost need something like https://t.co/EhUaOfQFM6 to mindlessly escape, or some meditation apps to help be #mindful! #edtechchat
A6: Tools for students to relieve stress are much the same as teachers... Music, organization tools (calendar, #GoogleKeep), great teachers, music, friends, passion projects, being valued and trusted...
#edtechchat
A5 A daily morning meeting sets expectations for the day and helps us practices skills (listening, speaking, kindness) that create a positive lrng env. #edtechchat#kidsdeserveit#elemchat
A6: Relationships, relationships, relationships... Positivity surrounds great and trusting relationships in schools. Stress is nearly non-existent in these places.
#edtechchat
A6: Encouraging students to ask questions or clarify on platforms (#googleclassroom, #edmodo, etc..) fosters a sense of community and support. Ss can also refer back to the platform for reminders. #edtechchat#edtechchat
