It’s warm here! Just had six 90 degree plus days; hit 100 degrees for first time since 2012; and had the hottest Memorial Day (100 degrees) in history! Doing well! #bmoreedchat
A1: one of my favorites is when I walked into @ragholson music classrooms and my students were singing "Ben". There was so much feeling and so much meaning in the words that I cried. Many students still request that we play that song in class! #bmoreedchat
A1. A member of my sixth grade book club walked into the room, slapped down The Running Dream and gave a dissertation on why I should read it. Once finished, I told her I already had. Her response: You make me angry sometimes. #BmoreEdChat
Depends on who you ask. Hopefully encouraging, concerned/interested in their interests, fair (not equal). Giving opportunities to show learning. Hard working. #BmoreEdChat
Steve, Counselor, Loyola Blakefield and Dad of a 7th & 3rd grader who’s Jumping in after a Medfield Heights Inspirational Choir performance tonight. #BmoreEdchat
A1: Ok just realized I took Q1 too literally...fave story this year would have to be @sarahpedrotti stealing someone’s cart when we were shopping for campus Xmas decorations #BMoreEdChat
Projects - Gulp! The game of digestion. Followed by Circulation Jenga. There was the “love” poems about circulation and respiration. Activities- always the dissection, using Google cardboard, @MetaverseApp and @Flipgrid. #BmoreEdChat
A3. My elementary preservice teachers have to create a mini classroom library of 35-40 children’s lit selections, including annotating and analyzing each. They always hate it during but come back to me later and tell how much it helped them to create future lessons #BmoreEdChat
My scholars have the opportunity to create their own graphic novel using Persepolis as inspiration, showcasing how they find freedom in confinement as a teen in Baltimore. Their illustrated panels have been so insightful! #BmoreEdchat
#BmoreEdchat A3 The favorite projects were learning geography terms by labeling their own globes and using lentils to represent Braille alphabet when we were reading biographies of Helen Keller and Louis Braille.
#BmoreEdchat Two of my 2nd teachers designed a project where students chose an African American hero, researched his/her life, wrote a biography and culminated with a live museum to share their work. The kids were so proud!
A3: We did a huge Red Line Project in connection with our reading of "A Raisin In the Sun". Students looked at how setting impacted an individual's ability to achieve their dreams and applied the EQ to their own neighborhoods and B'More as a whole... #BmoreEdchat
Students were able to see the Red Line Exhibit at Central Office and go to the Maryland Historical Society to do primary document research. It was really powerful and so were their final products. #BmoreEdchat
A3: my answer will be a little out of the box since I’m not in the classroom. 1) It definitely was NOT applying to college. 2) our SGA President brought back student-led forums, musical reflection time every Friday & creative morning video announcements. #BmoreEdchat
A3: My Ss fav activity would definitely be Socratic seminar and writing task on the #BlackLivesMatter
Movement! It was also mine as I shared their learning when I presented at Harvard University! #CulturallyResponsiveTeaching#BmoreEdchat
A4: when departmentalizing, it is highly important that you and your team teacher set the same classroom expectations and procedures, especially with 8 year olds. #bmoreedchat
I did something very similar with my students last year and they were great. I love making the author's purpose and motivation clear to the students by putting them in the role of author. #BmoreEdchat
I don’t really need to be a hands-on with controlling the learning activities (depending on the course). I can give up more control than I thought. They surprised me. #BmoreEdChat
hi #bmoreedchat. I'm here in time for Q4. Better late than never at this time of year for me! I teach kinder at an inde school in Lake Tahoe. This year I learned the power of teaching systematics phonics. I'm amazed at where my Ss are now!
Thanks! It really helped my students understand some of the underlying issues surrounding people's dreams and their ability to achieve. And it gave them a language to talk about the things they are already know so intimately. #BmoreEdchat
#BmoreEdchat A4 Man, I feel like I learn all the things, every year. This year in particular, I learned to make myself progressively unnecessary to empower others to do their best work. Collaboration means the sum is greater than the parts!
I learned that I am just as strict on myself as I am on my scholars... I believe that #fullteacherspour but I was empty too many times this year. It is ok to let go of people and things that drain you! I can’t do pessimistic teachers who look down on kids... #BmoreEdChat
I learned how powerful relationships are in the classroom. Relationships with students, parents, colleagues 🌎all of which have been simply amazing this year! Thank you for an amazing year @DCAComets
A4) My role is essential to providing safe spaces for Transgender Students and Females of Color which was definitely supported through my reading of #PushOut by #MoniqueMorris#BmoreEdchat
A4: I learned a lot this year, but I think my main takeaway is from @davestuartjr: Define your Everest (goal for your Ss) and make every choice based on whether or not it supports Ss reaching that goal--clarifies priorities and helps us stay focused. #BmoreEdchat#LoyolaEt#ET630
A4. Some of my strategies are always reinforced as effective and then the same ones are always challenged as not-so-successful. A reminder of differentiation. #BmoreEdChat
Q5: My number one goal for next year is to be more flexible and adapt to what my role throws at me daily. I need to focus on permanence more than perfection. #BmoreEdchat
A5: be able to create a positive learning environment for both of my reading classes and promoting a smooth transition between classes. If anyone else has a departmentalized schedule in2nd grade, please feel free to share strategies ❤ or reach out! #bmoreedchat
A5) Plan better for testing time!Plan BETTER for the unplanable moments so my Students do not feel abandoned when I am pulled out unexpectedly! #BmoreEdchat
A5: My goal is to be very strategic in my planning and make sure that every thing I do in the classroom is furthering the growth and ability of my Ss as they move into adulthood. Supporting the "long-term flourishing" of my Ss as people, not just Ss. @davestuartjr#BmoreEdchat
This! a Thousand times this! Check out the work of @Aricfoster2. He has tons of resources and presentations on his website to help support staff, admin, family and Ss as you move towards standards-based grading. #BmoreEdchat
My #1 goal is to give scholars choice and diversity in reading through @ProjectLITComm! I have a team of 2 teachers and a goal of getting 2 of each book title from my Amazon wish list. So far, I’ve gotten about 15 books thanks to generous donors! 🙌🏽 #BmoreEdchat
I don't and that's part of the problem! But I took a really fantastic @achievethecore Foundational Skills online course in the winter and it really turned me around. I'm excited to start next year with a clear scope and sequence and get organized this summer! #bmoreedchat
Q5: My number one goal for next year is to be more flexible and adapt to what my role throws at me daily. I need to focus on permanence more than perfection. #BmoreEdchat
#BmoreEdchat Q6: Traveling to Colombo, Sri Lanka (possibly via Dubai) for a special convention. Upon returning, simplifying my life even more. Contentment is key.
A4: how to work with Ps and Sa better on managing expectations in the college admissions process. “College is a match to be made, not a prize to be won.” Also helping them find good financial fits in the process. #BmoreEdchat
A6: Traveling with @kait013087 for our honeymoon teaching style in the summer. Also REALLY excited to teach my first graduate class @LoyolaEducation too! #BmoreEdchat
#BmoreEdchat A6 already planning some blended learning PDs with my homegirl Sarah P and scoping out work for PLCs with my girl @Leanne728 ! And also, spending time with my two adorable children.
A5 My goal for this summer is to plan out some trimester projects guided by #teachsdgs with specific foundational skills (of both literacy and math) built into each. I want learning to be super fun and meaningful next year! #bmoreedchat

A6) Building my Empowerment Lifestyle Brand! Just published a Magazine and now I am hosting an online class to teach others how to do it too! I am also planning a conference for in person training! #BmoreEdchat
A6: I am: finishing my internship, possibly teaching an AU course for the district, finishing my Master's in ET, moving buildings, having jaw surgery/my mouth wired shut...
#BmoreEdchat
We have a lot of Fundations materials at my school. We use the letter cards for picture/word, name and sound, the indi white boards and their handwriting cues. With lots of supplemental materials too. :) #bmoreedchat
A6 continued: learning all the new EDtech that is coming to my school, teaching my staff about our new EDtech, starting a Post-Master's Program. Nothing much. #BmoreEdchat
Really, not planning on classes. Though I might take a stats class or calculus or language class (If @TrinityDC ). I need time to think long term #bmoreedchat
A6: Traveling with @kait013087 for our honeymoon teaching style in the summer. Also REALLY excited to teach my first graduate class @LoyolaEducation too! #BmoreEdchat
@lee_waterhouse and I were just talking about that! Because it's true. Try new things, take risks, take your students with you, be prepared and learn alongside! #bmoreedchat
I love this way of conceptualizing it. My sister got scholarships to three colleges, but she picked the most expensive and smallest one. And she was blissfully happy and still gets giddy when she gets their Alumni mail. #goals#BmoreEdchat
