Good evening #ECEchat PLN! My name is Nancy. I am the very proud principal of Celina Primary School in North Texas. I am passionate about things #ECE and #EarlyEd#STEAM#STEM
Hello #ECEchat Justin here! Head Start teacher in North Texas, and excited to be discussing morning and afternoon routines with you tonight. Thank you for joining!
Hi all! I’m Jane, a Senior studying Integrated Educational Studies at Chapman University in Orange, California. Looking forward to learning from you all tonight! #ECEchat
A1: We start our day with morning greetings as Ss walk in the door. They get to choose from high five/hug/fist bump/ or wave to say hello. My Assistant does this to build a relationship, but this is a great job for Ss too! #ECEchat
A1. I start the day with greeting them when they line up, another greeting at the door and then a song or poem. On Fridays we have a dance party! #ECEchat
Hi everyone! Excited to join for the first time. I'm the community manager for Teachstone. We work closely with teachers, coaches, and admin in ECE so I'm always looking for new ideas. #ECEchat
A1: Although I don’t have a routine yet, I plan to start my school days with reflection in the form of morning meetings! I think it’s a great way to check in and see how everyone is feeling. #ECEchat
A1: classical or Dinsey music, greeting at the door, swap out take home books, and morning tubs. Lots of chatting, greeting, and collaborating #ECEchat
A1) I officially start my day with @responsiveclass model for morning meeting. Unofficially there is a parade of former students who pop in to get morning hugs. ❤️ #bestday#everyday#ecechat
A1 We have a morning meeting (before breakfast) that includes our @ConsciousD promise, wish you well, I love you ritual/classroom family; We then do morning message (after breakfast) Day of the week, weather, Question of the day - model writing/reading #ecechat
A1: I always start with a greeting, hug or high five, a quick conversation, and then some kind of welcome work. We really love Play Doh in the morning! #ECEchat
A1: we start by having Ss do jobs for the day (lunch, snack, waterbottle, bathroom) then they have a task to work on until it’s time to start. This week our task was magnet tiles! I greet kids & check in w/them during this time #ECEchat
Hi all! I’m Jane, a Senior studying Integrated Educational Studies at Chapman University in Orange, California. Looking forward to learning from you all tonight! #ECEchat
A1. Bus Duty-started it when I was at #WoodsonK and still do it @EllisMiddle492 such a great way to connect with students and families right away. #ECEChat
A1. I don’t have a classroom anymore :( but if I did I would have a door greeter: hugs, high fives, smiles, handshakes, fist bumps, butterfly handshakes, for everyone! #ecechat
A1: Our preschool programs start the day by ALL of our students being greeted by a teacher at the door then directed to a board to select a table activity. They then use play scripts to lead learning in how to complete the table activity. #ecechat
A1: As the principal I start the day in carpool. I help students out of their car, welcome them "I am so glad you came to school today", and ask them if they are ready for great day! #ECEchat
A1: classical or Dinsey music, greeting at the door, swap out take home books, and morning tubs. Lots of chatting, greeting, and collaborating #ECEchat
#ECEchat A:1 We start our day out with SS greeting each other and I give each one a hug and they briefly tell me anything that's on their mind. We do a morning song, follow by I love you rituals then our daily news
A1 I greet students in the cafeteria. We countdown and start the day off w/ a well wish, chant or cheer...Then off we go! Fast and Furious all day long learning! 💫#ECEchat
RT @KimberlyEHart “Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning… They have to play with what they know to be true in order to find out more, and then they can use what they learn in new forms of play.” ~ Fred Rogers #Playmattershttps://t.co/hXbwr5qRvD
My fave way to start the day will always be greeting students at morning duty! Giving them a hug, a big smile, and greeting them with a warm welcome... it doesn't get much better. #ecechat
A2: We build our class family with rituals & songs. We use Classroom Family by Conscious Discipline to make sure Ss are incorporating singing/eye contact/touch. Afterwards we see who is present with Wish You Well, & wish our students absent well. #ECEchat
A1 My kiddos read a Classroom Password after they unpack their backpacks. There is morning work waiting for them then quiet reading on the rug. It works for us then we are all ready for @responsiveclass am meeting. #ecechat
A2. I really help build relationships and help students build with each other. I stress kindness and caring for one another and our home aka our classroom. We all do our part to make it a safe, and fun place to learn #ECEchat
You are on the right track. @ConsciousD has a brain smart start to the day that includes greeting, connecting, uniting, and making commitments for the day. #ECEchat
A2 we do morning meeting & each Ss is greeted by name every morning! We also talk a lot about being a team & how we all have a part/need to help #ECEchat
I really love this! It is a wonderful 1:1 moment I can have with each kiddo and help them start their day on a happy, positive, I can do it! note. :) #ecechat
In reply to
@JessicaCabeen, @responsiveclass, @mydayink, @cassie_leathers, @ashley_denisen, @CrystalPepperK, @mrdkinderteach
A2 Through @ConsciousD promise, I love rituals, songs, classroom jobs (one for each
Ss) and good old fashioned hugs and I love you! I love walking in from duty and having 20 Ss waiting in line to get a hug-best part of my day..second to cross walk duty which I also 💓😂 #ecechat
A2: We discuss expected and unexpected behaviors. Those of which keep our classroom feeling safe and how our choices can affect other students. We use the curriculum, We Thinkers to promote social skills that build towards a positive classroom environment. #ecechat

A2) i build a classroom family both by explicitly saying ‘we are a family’ or ‘that’s what families do’ but also by modeling.Lots of love, affection and thoughtfulness in our room/school. We also try to bring in families;into our pictures, discussions & visits #ecechat
#ECEchat A2: In the beginning of the school year we sing We are a Family by Jack Hartman. We discuss as a class what the meaning of a family is and how we should treat each other. Throughout the year if someone makes a sad choice we refer back to our family rules n expectations
A2: we are using #RestorativeCircles to help build a classroom community. The conversations have been awesome and REAL. I’ve seen a lot of self self advocating. #ECEChat#RelationshipsFirst
A2: I focus on caring and kindness daily. We talk about how to be helpful to each other, but I could do so much more with this. I’m excited to read all of the other ideas. #ECEchat
A2: I use a lot of "we" "our" and "us" in the classroom. It's not my classroom, it's OUR room. I get their input on decisions. For instance, they helped to pick out our new classroom rug. #ecechat
#ECEchat A2: In the beginning of the school year we sing We are a Family by Jack Hartman. We discuss as a class what the meaning of a family is and how we should treat each other. Throughout the year if someone makes a sad choice we refer back to our family rules n expectations
A2: I plan to build community in the classroom by creating a safe space for students to develop strong relationships with one another. & Always emphasizing inclusivity! #ECEchat
A2: I also try to get as much 1:1 time as possible with each child. We eat family style, so we get a lot of personal conversation in at meal times as well. #ecechat
A2- I always found Morning Meeting helped as well as many channels of communication with families, including bringing families in when possible. #ECEchat
A2 I try to do a lot of this work all throughout the day but especially when we are together during Morning Meeting and Closing Circle. We do a lot of sharing and listening and conversing! I love to have fun with my kids! #ecechat
#ECEchat A2 We also lead by example. My IA and I make sure we are modeling love, respect and helpfulness at all times. We also model the same love with other co-workers in the hall way.
A3: It's a must in our class that every Ss has a voice to choose their greeting and goodbye! It is something that is in their control, and they don't always get that in their day to day lives. Visuals for greeting/ finger puppets for goodbye. #ecechat
A1 I added “greeter” as a job this year; then kiddos make lunch choice using name stones, am work prior to am mtg. They also select center for choice time (later on day) #ECEchat
A3. As a building we do not let students enter classrooms without a greeting. This goes for specials too. Students wait in line until they are greeted by the adult #ECEchat
A2 Special routines and rituals... eating lunches together, read alouds, celebrations and cheers, laughing at silly jokes, certain songs we love to sing and dance to! #ecechat
A3: I greet each one of them by name at drop off every morning and say goodbye to each of them at drop off. No matter what my mood, I make sure I have a smile on my face. #ecechat
A3: It was truly easy for my assistant and I to make sure that we greeted every Ss at the start of the day. We so easily forget at the end of the day while rushing to pack up that each Ss needs to be said goodbye to as well! Don't forget this part! #ECEchat
A3) morning meeting helps me be consistent with greeting all students. I need to find a better way to honor saying goodbye to all Ss. esp. considering the anxiety that dismissal can bring for some of our Ss. #ecechat
oh I love this! I will start to share the greeting duties during Morning Meeting after we have a couple more to choose from. (We only have verbal and micro waves right now.) Thanks for the sweet video! #ecechat
A3: We will be moving to having students greet and dismiss students. This will be done by using verbal's, visuals. Also, using switches for our non-verbal students. #ecechat
A3 We have a job for it; Wish You Well job leads morning meeting and Goodbye chant. HINT: if you want to accomplish a task each day make it a classroom family job. 3/4 yr olds NEVER forget their job!😉 #ecechat
A3. Door greeter on the way in & high fives or hugs with the teacher on the way home! The dismissal routine allowed me to guarantee safety for all of my students! #ecechat
A3 We have a job for it; Wish You Well job leads morning meeting and Goodbye chant. HINT: if you want to accomplish a task each day make it a classroom family job. 3/4 yr olds NEVER forget their job!😉 #ecechat
A3: I greet each student when they enter. If I miss someone, I will joke with them about “sneaking in” past me and we laugh about it! At the end of the day, I say good bye as they leave with bus helpers or as I dismiss them. Their 5th grade bus helpers are rock stars! #ECEchat
A3 I think our staff does a great job beginning the day and ending the day being an encouragement to students. We are intentional in making those personal contacts through hellos and goodbyes. It’s important 😉 #ECEchat
A3: Greet at classdoor in AM and I line up the kids in afternoon at door and walk to their station for dismissal and say see you tomorrow. When I have car duty I make sure to say Greet and say good bye to those Ss too...it is just polite and friendly. #ecechat
A2 rituals & routines; am & pm mtg, turn & talk partners; Last year I started using am/pm mtg slides I found onTPT. Has am msg for me to type in, a greeting , share & activity- pm is more reflective of day w/fun salutations #ECEchat
A3 I loved holding the back door each day and saying good bye to all our bus rider students as they exited to load their busses and then waving them off as their busses drove away. #ecechat
#ECEchat A3 before dismissal they get to choose if they want a hug, high five or fist bump from me. I also let them know that I love them and that I'm looking forward on seeing them again in the morning
#ECEchat A3 every child in our class gets greeted by the hello helper of the day. I too greet each one the min I walk in from duty n during breakfast I make connections with each ss

A4: We do morning message daily! It keeps part of their AM routine, & you can bring whatever aspect you want into it. We build literacy, writing, letter recognition, & math. We focus on S/E in the beginning of the year to build a class family! #ecechat
A3 guess I answered in other; I def make a point to say good morning to everyone even w/greeter job; end of day can seem rushed so try to keep time built in to give proper goodbyes to each S #ECEchat
I chat with each student each morning during the Password but then I say a formal Good morning to each during morning meeting. I do a quick phonemic awareness game along with a formal Goodbye during closing circle. Pick up is more hectic. #ecechat
A4: I have students writing the sentences as the year goes on. They start with beginning letters, and then move onto the whole word. We sing sight word songs for the & is as well. @HeidiSongs#ecechat
A4) I do an interactive language experience approach where the student leader of the day writes the story. It is always a hit and parents love having their child read it to them at home. #ecechat
A4: I share important news and messages in my morning message. I include a behavior I want to see. We look for letters of the day or the magic letter in our message. Eventually I want to work up to having students help write in the message! #ECEchat
A4 Morning Message with the best Co-teacher ever, Ms Shea. You get so much from MM: modeled writing/reading, share the pen, letter ID and sound, numbers, shapes and the list goes on! #ecechat
We do Morning Message every morning. During this time, we sing songs, recite poems and build a sense of community within the class. The morning message itself is used to build literacy and math skills. #ecechat
A4: I have a PPT slide with directions for the AM, but I might update this to more of a morning message style. We do Circles in the AM after school news and then off to intervention. My focus this year has been HQ circles. #ECEChat

A4: Before our students entire the classroom they answer a question of the day with their parent/guardian. Once we come to our 1st large group lesson we focus on lit skills such as: letters, letter sounds, vocab, syllables, print knowledge. We change the skills each day. #ecechat
.@MrJustin2016 ‘s morning message routine is phenomenal! He does this with a 3 & 4 years old mixed age class! 🖊Sharing the pen & building a literacy rich classroom! #ecechat

Yes! Will take pics tomorrow and send you. It is based off od the book ‘never to early to write’ sooo powerful. Kids get to be ‘Interviewed’ which they love! #ecechat
A5: In the start of the year we focus on S/E lessons, & their special letter. We then move on to literacy with ABC Bootcamp, & our writing skills with the sentence stems that stay the same. On Friday's I do a graph to incorporate math lessons. #ecechat
A5. Letter ID and sounds, I am liking the labeling and drawing and I want to add a question of the day prompt to it too! I like the math part as it’s always been a literacy focus for me #ECEchat
A5 How can you not: You are showing how to write, read, make words from letters, sounds of letters and depending on the question you can focus on math, science, SEL. The purpose of MM is academics! #ecechat
A5 How can you not: You are showing how to write, read, make words from letters, sounds of letters and depending on the question you can focus on math, science, SEL. The purpose of MM is academics! #ecechat
A4. I have seen Ts use morning message to organize the day, and offer students an opportunity to engage with print concepts and multidisciplinary themes that would be woven throughout the day. #ECEChat
A5: Our first large group focuses heavily on academics by using a literacy board and weekly book. We also incorporate basic handwriting at the tables before coming to our LG. #ecechat
A4 Morning Message with the best Co-teacher ever, Ms Shea. You get so much from MM: modeled writing/reading, share the pen, letter ID and sound, numbers, shapes and the list goes on! #ecechat
A5: I write the date out and use that for number ID. We will also use the date to count (today is the 16th, we counted to 16). I will also use it for letter and sound recognition. I increase the skills as the year progresses. #ecechat
A5) our morning message allows for speaking, listening, reading & writing. When the kids are ‘interviewed’ they are only asked about their story, which leads kids into text dependent analysis. We also count our sight words & show multiple representations for that number. #ecechat
A5 cont. You have to be careful with phonological awareness skills, but I do like to ask questions like: Can you tell me two words that rhyme or tell me a word that has 3 syllables? #ecechat
A6: Just as we start our day, I let Ss choose a hug/high five/fist bump/wave as I give them their folders at the end of the day. I use finger puppets for them to choose their goodbye from. They LOVE it! #ECEchat
A6- hugs or handshakes. When we leave the classroom it seems so rushed so I would like to close the day out better. We (adults) are cleaning up snack while they pack up so it feels so rushed!!! #ECEchat
Q6: The last thing we do before dismissal is recess. I get the opportunity to play with them and relax after the stress of the day. We dismiss from the playground, so I say goodbye to each of them as their parents sign them out. #ecechat
A6 Chant: (arms up) Hip Hip Hooray for pre-k, Hip Hip hooray we had a great day! (wave) Bye Bye, See you later alligator, After while crocodile...blow a big kiss to your classroom family #ecechat
A6 Closure routines help children feel safe and loved as they leave for the day. It also builds their confidence and positive expectations for returning the next day. #ecechat
A6. We end our day by reviewing our commitments, did we accomplish our goals or ‘oops, we need to try again tomorrow!’ Always hugs and high fives too! #ecechat
A6: I would like to end our school day with a cool down of any kind! Whether it’s a song, a dance, a discussion, or more reflection—I want students to always leave with a smile on their face and be prepared and excited for tomorrow! #ECEchat
A6 I love our closing circle. It is our last community building of the day, our time to reflect on the day, look forward to tomorrow and show that we care about each other one more time. I'm excited to add @StefLRichard's rhymes tomorrow! #ecechat
A6 Chant: (arms up) Hip Hip Hooray for pre-k, Hip Hip hooray we had a great day! (wave) Bye Bye, See you later alligator, After while crocodile...blow a big kiss to your classroom family #ecechat
