HSSocialMedia : RT txhsfbchat: Tonight our topic is Recruiting the Halls and Building your Program! I hope we are able to help each other with ideas to impact more kids #TXHSFBCHAThttps://t.co/nmebJMCGA9
A1: If I see a kid I think could help us, I'll start talking to him in the hall and develop a relationship. Gauge his interest, and kinda pump him up to see how he responds #TXHSFBCHAT
HSSocialMedia : RT txhsfbchat: If you enjoy #TXHSFBCHAT, check out #Flhsfbchat with Coachmac8740 Sundays 7 CT, #hogfbchat with CoachDingus and CoachShiffman Mondays 8 CT, and all the videos and resources provided by CoachMckieJr and slade248 https://t.co/hH5sk3b84q
A1: personal connection. Crazy how building a relationship matters to kids. Also social media promotion, off season awards earned, but most importantly intentionally building a culture kids want to be apart of #TXHSFBCHAT
A1) I know it sounds crazy but we have a good time. It is supposed to be fun and we have fun. We treat the kids well, we get good press. Kids spread the word, its fun and the coaches care, its amazing how well that works. #txhsfbchat
A1: Trying to work the halls as much as we can. Also trying to have good relationships with other coaches in the school to encourage athletes to play multiple sports. Helps that our DC is also the baseball coach. #txhsfbchat
A1. I spend a lot of time talking with current players about who they think are potential players. I think kids respond better hearing from each other than some old guy. Then when a list is compliled, I meet individually with them. #txhsfbchat
A1) Our own players are always our Best recruiters in the halls. They know what it takes to be a Lion and if the recruits can make it or not. #TXHSFBCHAT
Great point! It is so important to work well with the other sports and coaches! The school is better when ALL programs are successful and more kids are involved! #TXHSFBCHAT
A1: just talk to the kids, show them that you know that they can do anything if they work hard. Sell your program. Also have current players go and talk to kids as well. Sometimes it means more coming from them. #TXHSFBCHAT
A1) We invite people to be a part and invite them to lift/workout after. Last yr I called every parent of 8th graders inviting them to be a part of spring teaching. #TXHSFBCHAT
Build a relationship with kids in the halls and in the classroom. Invite them out for spring ball. Talk them up on how they could help us be successful. #TXHSFBCHAT

A1: We offer a walk-on process in the spring. If each kid does the requirements, he will be placed on the appropriate team. As mentioned before...Winning helps!#TXHSFBCHAT
A1: build relationships, treat the kids in our program the best we can while keeping them accountable and people outside the program notice. #TXHSFBCHAT
A1) I’m lucky enough to be at a program that has a very rich history of success at the highest levels so we don’t have to sell it much but obviously we do want to do things to get as many kids out as we can that are willing to work #TXHSFBCHAT
A1: Be visable in the halls. Build relationships in hallways and classroom. Talk them up about how they could help better our program. Invite them out for spring ball. #TXHSFBCHAT
One year for the wrestling team, I sent out invitations to specific kids who I thought had what it took. Worked,,,,,or we wouldn't have had a team. #txhsfbchat
A2) I have an assistant at our biggest JH, been big for us so he can see the kids in PE, recruit them after buidling relationships with them. Freshmen numbers have went up last 2 yrs because of it. #TXHSFBCHAT
HSSocialMedia : RT txhsfbchat: CoachWilliams02 Great point! It is so important to work well with the other sports and coaches! The school is better when ALL programs are successful and more kids are involved! #TXHSFBCHAT
A2: I believe it truly takes a village. If assistants are truly bought in, they will want kids involved in something they believe in. Furthermore, it’s great for the overall school environment. #TXHSFBCHAT
A2) I think by being seen at other sporting events is big. Letting other athletes know you are interested in them and care about their sport. #TXHSFBCHAT
A2: Assistants are key because they are in the building and see the kids everyday. ACs help spread the message of the program, hold the team accountable on the field and in the building, and build relationships with people who want to be involved #TXHSFBCHAT
A2. By being a part of the school community, taking interest in players in more than just football during season, showing that we are intersted in building young men not just football players
A2: they have to be bought in to what the hc wants to do. If they are then that rubs off on the kids. Also they have to know their role, if they work hard with their position and take time with film and chalk talk, that will show others how much that coach cares #TXHSFBCHAT
A2) any head coach is only as good as his assistants. Must find guys who buy in and will spread the culture the HC is trying to create even during tough times. Your assistants are your most important allies!
Q2 The biggest thing is all coaches need to be on the same page and have the same goal. Being positive and backing the HC is huge in getting kids to buy in and want to be a part of the program. #Txhsfbchat
A1: first thing is build relationships with the players and people around the school. Winning helps and making things nice! It's amazing what nice clean and updated facilities will Do! #txhsfbchat
A2. I find that certain kids build deeper relationships with assistants than heads. Maybe it is the amount of work on the HC's plate but assistants can spend more time with their position players. #txhsfbchat
A2) If you’re an assistant who teaches a class, especially 9-10 grade just try to be personable with the kids you think might be good for the team, always speak well of other coaches, brag a little bit about any success the team has, mention they could be a part of it #TXHSFBCHAT
You gotta start with having assistant coaches in the building. The more, the better. After that it's about being bought in to the vision of the HC. Be an ambassador for the mission of the brand. #TXHSFBCHAT
A2: bring the juice everyday as best as possible and have fun! Build relationships with your kids and we can coach our kids hard and we all can still have fun #TXHSFBCHAT
A2. I have Assistants reach out to their players periodically and the ones in the building will try to reach out to students I may not deal with. #txhsfbchat
A3) Our program will take all newcomers, to be apart of it requires nothing more than putting in the work during our off-season program. Earn teammates respect by the work you do. #TXHSFBCHAT
A3)We want them around the team. Weightroom, camp, all the stuff we expect of all of them, but nothing that has to be done other then the state & district paperwork. #txhsfbchat
A3. No parameters. I meet and explain what my expectations are. Then I remind them as much as possible. But we're too small not to accept interested bodies. #txhsfbchat
A3: Keep grades up don't get in trouble, If available (not participating in another in season sport) start coming to workouts and other team activities. Generally same expectations as everyone already on the team. #TXHSFBCHAT
A3) Unless they are a transfer that comes in at a weird time, prospective players must complete our entire offseason and summer workout program to be apart of our team #TXHSFBCHAT
A3: They must be passing all classes. Be approved by the head coach. Get a recommendation from a teacher. Enroll in 5th period for spring off-season and spring football. #TXHSFBCHAT
A3) Our biggest requirement is they have to go thru offseason, unless they are a new move in. If they make it thru offseason we know they are committed and accountable. #TXHSFBCHAT
Q3 Must get him into football weights and he he must attend all off season workouts. It is key that all players coaches bond together and have the same vision and goals. Become brother's. #Txhsfbchat
A3: As I mentioned earlier, we offer a walk-on program for those interested. They must go through after-school workouts in May and be passing all classes entering and exiting the program! #TXHSFBCHAT
A3: Any player who wants to play football in our program can. They can be a part of the team as long as they keep to our standards in regards to grades and behavior. We encourage potential players to come try football out during spring practice. #TXHSFBCHAT
A3) Well for us the student has to get their schedule changed to athletics for the spring which requires them to get all the paperwork done! After that they have to go through spring training with the team #TXHSFBCHAT
HSSocialMedia : RT txhsfbchat: Q3: If a student states they want to play next year, what parameters do you require them to fulfill in order to join the team? #TXHSFBCHAT
We had 3 juniors rejoin the team after not playing as sophomores. 2 made big contributions and the 3rd would have if he didn't have a season ending injury. They came back because they heard it was different. Guess "different" is good! #txhsfbchat
A1: We have 2 middle schools that feed into our school. We also have a magnet program that allows students from across HISD to attend if they choose. #TXHSFBCHAT
A3) Go through Bootcamp & off-season workouts, then Spring Ball, then must go through summer workouts. Develop trust & show us your dedicated!!! #TXHSFBCHAT
A4) We two platoon with 60 kids 9-12, I feel it is our job to take the quantity we have and make them quality. We are only school in our region to do this and its proved to work with 2 straight winning seasons & playoffs. #TXHSFBCHAT
A4) Always quality.
The person over the player, no player over the team.
I'd like the think low quality additions will remove themselves. I talked about it being fun, but our version of fun, just ain't for everyone.
#txhsfbchat
A3) Excluding all the obvious paperwork and physical, join the team. We take in anyone in our school’s family who wants to try football. Right into workouts or practice whenever they commit to playing. #TXHSFBCHAT
Q4 For us it's always about building depth and getting more players out each year. We are a small 2A so we have to quantity and quality if that makes sense. Always have to make sure everyone is ready. #Txhsfbchat
A3: They must adhere to all the rules and standards set by the coaches. As long as they show up and do what's asked of them, they will be fine. #TXHSFBCHAT
This all being said, once apart of the program you must follow our rules and core characteristics to stay with us. We try to provide study hall for guys with lower grades when we can get help! #TXHSFBCHAT
A4: Numbers are always a good problem to have. Numbers equates to depth. Quality can depend on many things out of our control. Work who you have and build up their skills. Quality will develop in time #TXHSFBCHAT
A4. Took over a team that was 0-24. Wasn't left with a lot of the roster. So, we look for quantity and quality. The goal is always to develop and then the quality will come. Our job to use our players' strengths to help us win. #txhsfbchat
A4: We are a 5A school but don't have high participation numbers compared to other 5A schools. There's simply not a big football culture here BUT it's growing. So any numbers we can get, we will gladly take. #TXHSFBCHAT
A4) I think the focus should be developing your quantity into quality which is why the weight room and off season skill sessions are so important #txhsfbchat
A4: You always look for quality, but you have to take what you're given and coach em up. Find a way to build them up and get them contribute and be successful within the program. #TXHSFBCHAT
HSSocialMedia : RT CoachJernigan: We can develop athleticism, but if a kid takes away from his team with attitude and actions, he cannot be a part of the program.#TXHSFBCHAT
A5: Feeder programs are of utmost importance. We must set a solid foundation with the middle school and freshman teams to see success and sustainability! #TXHSFBCHAT
A5) Freshman only play on the freshman team. JV is the proving ground, wins are great but its about bringing guys along for Friday nights. Friday nights are about now, best 11 we can put on the field at that moment. #txhsfbchat
Those are one in the same in my opinion. Always focusing on the details of improvement and development. The ones that do that the best play the most. #txhsfbchat
A5. Everyone is the same. Focus on each player from the best to the worst player. Will provide individual or small group training for QB or DL/OL. #txhsfbchat
A5: Plan for long term. Always try to get the most out of your team and put them in good positions now but don't forget about young guys that will be the future of the program or any feeder programs. #txhsfbchat
A5) We obviously always want to develop our players and help them as much as possible but no player is bigger than the program. What's best for the program will always come first. #txhsfbchat
