I can say that #HipHopEd empowers teachers doing work on an individual and collective level. This work can evolve into challenging the systems that confine and define our students. What can you do within the systems that oppress?

I feel you but sometimes the IEPs got some students limits them & places them in a box academically. It’s really a Catch 22 but the work is critical #HipHopEd.

#HipHopEd has given me the context verve, and tools to go into Districts (like 2day in Bensonhurst) and show how valuable STEM learning spaces are when the student’s knowledge assets AND her culture become central to the STEM curriculum development and facilitation.

We are predominately Gen Xers and Millennials teaching Generation Z. Hiphoped allows us to share ideas about how to stay current in our practices, and I love that. Looking forward to when we put a curriculum group together! #HipHopEd

There has to be a way to build a system where kids internalize their accommodations and make them their own and an asset. That would require front-loading a lot of work, but hopefully that system would run itself eventually #hiphoped

Was at an event last weekend where a sister with a #HipHopEd hoodie gave me a nod & put her fist in the air. In a crowded room, it was magical. #HipHopEd
Unlike many scholar & activist spaces, the work comes first in #hiphoped & there’s a space for everyone. No ego all hustle. Squad>everything. #nuffsaid

Many times the IEPs are framed from a deficit lens & do not acknowledge the Ss’ home literacies. Internalizing these accommodations in my opinion are not a good look. I’ve seen some Ss believe they will never be able to thrive academically bc of their IEP. It varies. #HipHopEd
What I love about #hiphoped is its unapologetic authenticity & skill/knowledge/experience/intuitive collaborations that keeps me positive about the outcomes of this movement.

In July when my job ended after 22 years, I talked with my brother @chrisemdin and he told me "why look for a job when you have an assignment" #HipHopEd
I do! That's where/how I listen to 99.9% of all my podcasts. I do occasionally go off into itunes or somewhere to catch a special episode of something that's not on Stitcher, but rarely. It's a user-friendly app, not sure how #users compares to other podcast apps tho. #HipHopEd
Was super honored and thrilled to host a chat re: International/Global Hip-Hop early on in #HipHopEd's history esp in a digital HH, social media and edu space that continously rejects the history (or attempts to rewrite it), evolution + explosion of global HH on multiple levels
