A weekly half hour chat focused on improving access to education for PK-12 students through the use of Accessible Educational Materials (AEM), Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and Assistive Technology (AT).
Good Evening All, Julie's here (Orthopedic Access to Curriculum and AAC, AT Team Development). Lover of lake living and of accessible technology. #PatinsIcam
We will post questions as Q1, Q2, etc. Please tweet your response with A1, A2, etc. Don't forget to add the hashtag to each tweet or you will be talking to cyberspace! #PatinsIcam
Yes...but a little bird (Martha) just told me that she spilled a bottle of olive oil all over her floor) Slippin and slidin through the chat...#PatinsIcam
A6: something to consider for curriculum developers too. Consult with ICAM BEFORE deciding materials to be certain ALL students can have accessible materials in a timely manner #PatinsIcam

Clearly, full support from ICAM from start to finish. #PatinsIcam The tech part can be difficult for educators so having @cepatins@ss4122 can be a game changer to finalize the access for Ss.
I just want to interject that specialized formats are an ACCOMMODATION for Ss to access grade level content, NOT a modification which can take Ss off diploma track. 2 VERY different words #PatinsIcam
Specialized formats are of the same curriculum as the print. Alternative formats is altered content. Hear them used interchanablly, incorrectly. #patinsicam
A7: little bit of guessing here. Specialized is exact same content, word for word as a textbook but in different form such as audio or braille. Alternate format has simplified content? #PatinsIcam
Isn't that super cool?! The inmates that transcribe the text become nationally certified for braille transcription and give back to their communities in a way I bet they never expected #PatinsIcam
