We welcome all educators to join #AppleEDUchat every Tuesday. Our ADEs host chats from both Europe and the Americas with an incredible lineup of topics to spark conversation. Share your ideas & stories and connect with this global community. Join at 6pm PST or 9pm EST.
Welcome to tonight’s #AppleEDUchat on the Power of Collaboration! Questions will focus on the benefits of different types of collaboration. We’ve created a series of #classroomclips to spark inspiration for each question & model the power of collaboration via apps & social media.
Terri Cullen Assoc Professor @oueducation in an ice storm.. Hoping some students in my undergrad class will join me tonight. We will pass the time while we wait for the cancellation call from DBo #okwx#collaboration#appleeduchat
@cicohen will tweet the #classroomclips and @meredithedtech will tweet the questions. Let’s get started with introductions. Who will be collaborating with us tonight and from where are you tweeting? #AppleEDUchat
My name is Shaye Brim. I am an elementary education major at the University of Oklahoma. This is my first twitter chat and excited to be here tonight. #AppleEDUchat #3043

A1: Benefits of face-to-face collaboration are the relationships you establish! I collaborate with @RHLSD_Colts teachers and admin as well as curriculum specialist in other local districts like @Mimimarcia2015#inittogether#AppleEDUchat
A1: F2F collaboration is the epitome of Yes And… It helps build relationships & school community. The F2F collaboration I had w @ckklynen opened the door to exciting projects & played an invaluable role in helping me make it into the #ADEdu community. #AppleEDUChat
A1: My top collaborators in my school are my principal, art teacher, and STEM teacher. Benefits…all friends outside of school and honest with each other. #AppleEDUChat
Face to Face collaboration is beneficial for Ss to work on their communication skills. I feel like teaching Ss how to collaborate and communicate their thoughts is one of many valuable skills they can learn. #AppleEDUchat
a1) Face to face allows me to read to people better and has me make sure to focus on their ideas. I collaborate with my students, other faculty, and actually my husband too. #AppleEduChat
A1: Instant feedback, positive energy, failing up when needed. Collaborate with parents, educators, ADEs, admin, community, etc....it takes a village #AppleEDUchat
#AppleEDUchat A1: I collaborate with colleagues and Ss to design lessons, face to face allowing for discussion, analysis and evaluation leading to iterations
A1 #AppleEDUchat - At @emmakdoub we all have buddy classes (mostly revolving around literacy and collaborative writing) although Ss don’t always need to be in same room - that face time is great for older grades to mentor - also for collaborative STEM that’s hands on!
A1: face to face provides the most contextual information and results in the strongest relationships. I think the relationship part is key. #AppleEDUchat
A1: When I work with teachers on prjects, I find that the first meeting “face to face” works best. It seems to set an importance for the activity or meeting. #AppleEDUchat
A1: I collaborate with my dept/team & do lots of tech collab with our art teacher! F2F collaboration makes us more creative and helps us workshop ideas for the classroom #AppleEDUchat
A1: face-to-face collab means better and faster communication. There's less stress and better understanding! I'm CONSTANTLY collaborating with all my co cross content educators #AppleEDUchat
A!: I love collaborating with @carriew_h and our classroom teachers! Face to face is awesome because it is fast and easy to figure things out, and you get to know your colleagues! It also shows Ss the importance (AND FUN!) of working together! #AppleEDUChat
A1: Talking face-2-face allows me to give instant feedback, bounce ideas quicker, hear tone and see facial expressions. My go 2 collaboration partners are @ksjogie and @JGTechieTeacher#AppleEDUchat
A1: I love collaborating with @carriew_h and our classroom teachers! Face to face is awesome because it is fast and easy to figure things out, and you get to know your colleagues! It also shows Ss the importance (AND FUN!) of working together! #AppleEDUChat
A1: I collaborate with my fellow Ts, my Ss and local professionals. It is hugely beneficial to learn how to communicate face to face. You see nonverbal communication and can be very efficient. #AppleEDUchat
A1: We collaborate together to inspire, create, innovate, and cry. Because there are times when all you need is a shoulder. There is also rarely a misunderstanding of what is being communicated. #nonverbalcues#appleeduchat
A1) I believe face to face collaboration is something that is created between the teachers and students. Each student teacher collaboration will be different but will benefit each individual student according to his or her needs.
#AppleEDUchat #3043
A1: I collaborate with the other students in the College of Education at OU. Being in classes with each other allows us to work and learn together to prepare us for collaborating in our future schools! #appleeduchat
A1: F2F collaboration can be spontaneous. It can also encourage a spirit of teamwork. There can be immediate feedback and allow for energetic building on one another’s ideas. #AppleEDUchat
Face to Face collaboration is beneficial for Ss to work on their communication skills. I feel like teaching Ss how to collaborate and communicate their thoughts is one of many valuable skills they can learn. #AppleEDUchat
A1 - face to face collaboration brings about more effective problem solving because of that personal connection that happens when in the same physical space. I try to do this with teachers I work with in PD, even when it's easier to do a digital meet up #AppleEDUchat
Great point! Really listening well to others makes us better collaborators. We spend a lot of time modeling speaking skills but how are we modeling listening skills for our Ss? #AppleEDUchat
That is very true! Often in text we read it with whatever emotion WE have at the moment.... so if we're happy, we read it that way, but if we're upset - we read into it. Much more confusing than F2F! #AppleEDUChat
A1: There can be "energy" and connection between people in face-to-face collaboration that can be difficult to capture in non-face-to-face approaches. #AppleEDUchat
I collaborate quite frequently with my fellow high school counseling team. I'm very fortunate to work with such awesome, hard-working, and dedicated group of counselors. #AppleEDUchat
A1 F2F collaboration includes powerful communication with nonverbal cues - I collaborate with people in a variety of roles because I value their perspective. #AppleEDUChat
I totally agree with you, things happen when there is face to face collaboration. It is something that will help foster relationships and help you grow as a person as well. I also like how you said it can fun, because I think it should be fun! #AppleEDUchat #3043
A1: F2F collaboration can be spontaneous. It can also encourage a spirit of teamwork. There can be immediate feedback and allow for energetic building on one another’s ideas. #AppleEDUchat
We also collaborate as a district counseling staff to create our Chapter 339 plan - essentially a comprehensive & detailed overview of our K-12 counseling curriculum. @jennyktechin#AppleEDUchat
I will be honest, that I am working on my device skills.. Pavlov has got nothing on my iphone and I think we all can work on reducing distraction and active listening. #AppleEDUchat
A1:I love how fast-paced face-to-face collaboration can be at times-you can share (& see it immediately) quickly.I collaborate w/students, peers, ADEs - & feel fortunate to be married to an ADE (although sometimes we have to take a time out from 'talking shop'). #AppleEDUChat
A2 @MsLuss & I wrote an iTunesU course on Holocaust Lit. We collaborated on the course & our Ss collaborated while taking the course; they benefited immensely & especially got a lot out of the private course discussions (comments below): https://t.co/eBqozbpa0Y#AppleEDUChat
A1 F2F teacher collaboration creates excitement and sparks creativity and it’s more fun and usually leads to spontaneous laughter with @Themorriestory#CCSDfam#AppleEDUchat
this is SO important. I think will the ability to hide behind a computer the emotions are completely taken out of the conversation and you can not read how others are feeling. I love how you added that in. Made me realize how important F2F collaboration is. #AppleEDUchat #3043
A2: I would love to actually build a unit with the math educators at @Coppellisd. I feel like it would keep me plugged in to what is happening in the classrooms of my district. #AppleEDUchat
Haha I agree! It's a challenge that I think is important for all of us to think about! How are we modeling intent, focused presence with our people? I'm definitely working on that daily. #AppleEDUchat
A2: I've built a course with @carriew_h & everyone benefits! We always joke that it works super well b/c we balance each other well (and laugh and have fun!) It's great because we provide PD for our district and help other teachers advance their work with tech #AppleEDUChat
A2: I have built an iTunes U course in the past with @a_p_johnson and his scholars. Our classes collaborated to share facts about our states, etc. Our scholars were able to benefit...They were able to grow and learn together. #AppleEDUchat
a2) I usually build my courses with graduate students. It is an interesting dynamic. I have found that with good rapport, Grads like @CatJackson28@XtinaSanchez and @StevenChesnut helped me to be a better teacher and I think they learned from me too. #AppleEduChat.
A2: that's a tough one! I think I would want to build a course with someone who's education system is totally different than ours in US. The Ss and Ts would come in with totally unique perspective. #AppleEDUchat
A2: The last full class I built was a pre-service teacher technology class at Baker College. I had a few face to face meetings, but most of the development was done virtual. I learned a lot in regards to scope and sequence, the course is now up and running. #AppleEDUchat
A2 #AppleEDUchat back in the day I built some courses for an iLearnMaryland initiative with some great Ts / some have downloads in other countries - would love to build another some day !
A2: @jen_roble and I teach tiered Training Academy courses in our district. Our participants (teachers) benefit from the topics & activities that result from the collaboration. #AppleEDUchat
A2: As an instructional designer for online courses in higher ed, I see so many ways we could benefit from collaborating with MS and HS teachers who do an amazing job of scaffolding learning. Higher ed folks would greatly benefit from the skills of K-12 teachers. #AppleEDUchat
A2: If there is any 5th grade ELA teacher out there that wants to create a course, I'm your girl to collab with! I want to build a year long course that targets all CC standards #appleeduchat
Great point! Really listening well to others makes us better collaborators. We spend a lot of time modeling speaking skills but how are we modeling listening skills for our Ss? #AppleEDUchat
A1 F2F collaborations tend to be more detailed - other interactions or items in the collaborator's environment usually help you to get to know them better (interruptions from colleagues, phone calls, items on office walls, etc.) #AppleEDUchat
I would love to build and collaborate a course with my former 4th grade teacher. She is very student orientated and believe that we could have the potential to be a great team #appleeduchat #3043
A2 - It's nice to have input from teachers in grades above and below the course you are designing. Those teachers have great input into what the students knew in the past and what they see as problems down the road. #appleeduchat
A2: I am currently reworking a course on collaboration for higher ed students. I would love to write a course on innovation and #geniushour in the elementary classroom! #AppleEDUchat
A2: We love collaborating and building courses with students! Check out some of the ones we've built: https://t.co/kU6OY1GdW2. Everyone benefits! #appleeduchat
A2 This isn't a course...but I also love collaborating with #ADE friends! WI ADEs are planning a project and i've had fun working with @FelecityTreptow and Jeanne planning! Ss benefit because we each bring our own experience and the final project will be awesome! #AppleEDUChat
Agree! I think @michaelsmills has done some higher ed collaboration with MS/HS teachers that's turned out really well for his assessment students! #AppleEDUchat
I love that you mentioned it creates a personalized conversation! I feel like online or through technology, we often forget we're talking to real people so that face to face connection allows you to really understand and listen to someone. #AppleEDUchat
A2) I would love to build and collaborate a course with my former 4th grade teacher. She is very student orientated and believe that we could have the potential to be a great team #appleeduchat #3043
A2: I’ve collaborated with my campus strategic team to create a summer PD course for our staff (Elementary Prk-5th). Would love to network with other school leaders. #AppleEDUchat
A few years ago a bunch of us made teacher ed courses on ItunesU. We each made our own courses but provided feedback and supports to each other. #appleeduchat I still call on those people!
Q2 I have built 7 courses on my one, with peer feedback, but still on my own. I would LOVE to build a class with anyone. It would be nice to not wallow in self doubt :) #AppleEDUchat
That's awesome! Great to appreciate the newbies! I feel the same! They come with fresh new ideas and energy and it's fun to watch them shine and work with them to shine even brighter! :) #AppleEDUchat
A2: I am building curriculum with my fellow ADEs for ISTE. We are all benefitting because we all teach in different areas of the USA in different content areas! @ereale23@mr_meighen#AppleEDUchat
A2 I am working on an Accountable Learning Organization Framework to enhance transparency and group think collaboration in the workforce. #AppleEDUchat
Agree! I think @michaelsmills has done some higher ed collaboration with MS/HS teachers that's turned out really well for his assessment students! #AppleEDUchat
A2: I'd love to collaborate on an iTunes course or something like it! I taught Native Son and involved our government teacher. This would be a really great lesson to build w/ a gov teacher. We also did a mock trial with it. #AppleEDUChat
A2: I'd love to build a course for MS/HS Ss around the world to promote the love of reading - share book recommendations, hear what Ss think of books, highlight newly released books, etc. #AppleEDUChat
I took a class called the Mindful Classroom and believe I have the knowledge and expertise to write and implement a unit of study for hs aged students. I'd like to collaborate with our Health dept to create a unit on mindfulness #AppleEDUchat
A2: I've got many ideas of courses I'd like to build but looking for that special someone who is willing to reel me back in when my creativity takes over. @mhamiltonedu you in?? #AppleEDUchat
A2: We love collaborating and building courses with students! Check out some of the ones we've built: https://t.co/kU6OY1GdW2. Everyone benefits! #appleeduchat
A2 Helping faculty build online courses is a main component of my job - each Instructional Designer has been assigned about 100 faculty to work with. They benefit from learning tech and pedagogy, I benefit from learning about their subject. #AppleEDUchat
wow 7 courses. I am in school currently to be a teacher and the thought of building my own course kinda scares me. Even though I am scared I find comfort knowing there are teachers like you that are willing to work with anyone and be supportive. #AppleEDUchat #3043
Also would like to collab with business ed teachers to create a financial literacy course that incorporates the true cost & benefits of college on life long earnings, financial aid, etc. #AppleEDUchat
A3 The obvious benefits is the contribute from anywhere at anytime. I love that it enables me to work with people I otherwise wouldn't have the opportunity to work with. #AppleEDUchat
A2: I would love to collaborate with another ART teacher to build courses. I love my fellow teachers but sometimes you need another artist to bounce ideas off of. #AppleEDUchat@jennyktechin
#AppleEDUchat A3: Building our online Options course for IB Biology involved both synchronous and asynchronous collaboration amoungst teachers in NY, Atlanta and Peru. We are running the second iterations now!
A3: I took a graduate class w @meredithedtech in which we shared & posted all of our work in @voicethread. While we were all used to responding to each other’s writing, the asynchronous video discussion added a more personal feel to the conversation. #AppleEDUChat
As a future teacher, I am excited to learn from and work with teachers like you who are full of experience! I think every year of teaching brings more wisdom so learning from people who have more insight than me in school settings is very encouraging! #AppleEDUchat
I would say also think about future teachers. They have such great ideas and are dying to create content that a teacher would really use! We need more of that! Your local University might be able to hook you up! #AppleEDUchat
Would love to collaborate communications course with college level. Did it 20 yrs ago when 1st developed it. Updated it recently. Always looking to evolve. #AppleEDUchat
A3: Projects like planning an #AppleEDUChat with @theipodteacher have proven that you don't have to know someone in real life (though I'm glad we've met now!) to collaborate productively! One of my fav things about twitter is that it allows you to connect with Ts from all over!
A3: @Flipgrid is perfect for this! We did a personal narrative exchange with Ss in Ecuador, and it was so important for my students to experience a global community. Some of them never leave their pretty small town #AppleEDUchat
A3: Maybe my A2 was better for A3! Sharing documents and collaborating asynchronously on presentations and content is easier than ever! From NY to PA to my buddy @jkern85 in ID we share resources and ideas constantly! #AppleEDUchat
A3 I am excited to explore new feature w/@BookCreatorApp for live collaboration! Not just text, but true multimedia, unlimited creativity! #AppleEDUchat
We have been working on a computational thinking NSF Grant between 3 friends in three different states and one in Singapore.. Writing a grant in Google Docs was such a great experience, I will NEVER go back! but a lot has to do with the great people! #appleeduchat
A3) i have personally not experienced any major asynchronous collaboration. The only thing that comes to the top of my head is using google docs and being able to work together on a project, even though we are not together.
#appleeduchat #3043
A3: Asynchronous collaboration can be super productive. For example @Round3App allows students to provide feedback to each other on work-in-progress asynchronously, and the teacher gets a ton of valuable information they can use to shape instruction. #AppleEDUchat
#AppleEDUChat In my latest blog post I shared a collaborative book study where most of the collaborating was not in real time due to time zone differences - it was still powerful to see Ss use @SMART_Tech#SMARTamp to have rich convos about text https://t.co/F1MPoyqMOd
A3 Convenience is usually the benefit of asynchronous collaboration - everyone’s schedule is different for different reasons. For me, a lot of this happens through email, but we use other tools/methods: Slack, D2L (LMS), iTunes U #AppleEDUchat
A3: First thing that comes to mind is @Flipgrid. Being able to actually verbalize a thought that I can't immediately share with others is so helpful! It also gives learners (and us) time to think and process #AppleEDUchat
I spend tons of time looking for book recommendations & a course where the love of reading is promoted would be so great for me & my SS. It'd be great to have a place where Ss can comment & add to the course. No assignments, just the love of reading. #AppleEDUchat
My Graduate class on Integrating Technology is writing a collaborative book for future teachers this semester. We will be putting it into @bookcreator so it will be truly #OER and shareable for all. #appleeduchat
A3 I am excited to explore new feature w/@BookCreatorApp for live collaboration! Not just text, but true multimedia, unlimited creativity! #AppleEDUchat
A3: Our students had a blast collaborating with college students from Malaysia! Who knew microbiology would be so captivating for 4th graders? 12-hour time difference couldn't hinder them! #appleeduchat
A3: @Flipgrid is perfect for this! We did a personal narrative exchange with Ss in Ecuador, and it was so important for my students to experience a global community. Some of them never leave their pretty small town #AppleEDUchat
A3: Working on a presentation with @JGTechieTeacher using #GoogleSlides but our schedules make it an asynchronous collboration. I find I'm more productive when I can play off of what she has already done. #AppleEDUchat
a3) Even though i am not familiar with this type of collaboration, I really hope to become more informed about it. I believe that communicating with people and working together is something I could truly benefit from.
#appleeduchat #3043
A3: @Flipgrid is perfect for this! We did a personal narrative exchange with Ss in Ecuador, and it was so important for my students to experience a global community. Some of them never leave their pretty small town #AppleEDUchat
A3: First thing that comes to mind is @Flipgrid. Being able to actually verbalize a thought that I can't immediately share with others is so helpful! It also gives learners (and us) time to think and process #AppleEDUchat
A3: I think tools like @padlet and @Flipgrid are also great options for higher ed; my pre-service teachers' courses are primarily online, and these tools allow for more authentic connection than a plain, old discussion board #AppleEDUchat
I would love to build a course for higher education learners of English w/ K12 educators &w/ input from teachers of English in different global locations — possible benefits for scaffolding and diverse global perspectives, building communities. #AppleEDUchat
We use Flipgrid in my Learning with Technologies course on campus and I love it! My class posts our reading responses on Flipgrid so we can all watch and learn from each other. It's nice because I get to go back and watch the videos when I have time or questions. #AppleEDUchat
A3: I have not used the resources being mentioned by others, but am certainly intrigued. Obviously there are immense benefits anytime you can enhance communication by making it more time efficient and with a broad reach. #AppleEDUchat
Between @Flipgrid, #googledocs, and social media tools, asynchronous collab is pretty accessible. But in these cases it can be tougher to keep everyone honest. #AppleEDUchat
A4 I've used it to bring experts into my classroom. I hope to use it to expand on that and also have students to collaborate with other students. Peer edit across schools. #AppleEDUchat
#AppleEDUchat A4: In our Online IB Biology Options we have a Google Hangout once per week for synchronous teacher support. It’s amazing to meet our Ss from other countries and schools
A4: @MsLuss & I used synchronous video calls to build our Holocaust Lit. course & our Ss had synchronous video calls as they collaborated throughout the course. Live video calls helped facilitate strong collaboration & relationships. See quotes from Ss attached. #AppleEDUChat
A4: My kiddos have talked to individuals who work for politicians in DC. We Facetimed during our government unit, and they were able to see into Congressmen's offices. #appleeduchat
A1: F2F collaboration can be spontaneous. It can also encourage a spirit of teamwork. There can be immediate feedback and allow for energetic building on one another’s ideas. #AppleEDUchat
We've talked about this before but I'd love to do something to connect with @collabgenius! I've also chatted with @ms_carbone about collaborating on Stop Motion projects with both of our classes! :) #AppleEDUChat
A4: We have used FaceTime, Google Hangouts, and @BlueJeansNet to collaborate with classes in other states and countries for World Read Aloud Day. We also use them to collaborate on projects #AppleEDUchat
A3: Our students had a blast collaborating with college students from Malaysia! Who knew microbiology would be so captivating for 4th graders? 12-hour time difference couldn't hinder them! #appleeduchat
A4: I have used synchronous collaboration to trouble shoot tech and application issues with fellow ADEs and experts using FaceTime. How do others like @collabgenius work on synchronous collaboration with time zone obstacles? #AppleEDUchat
A4: Synchronous video is awesome for virtual field trips, Mystery Skypes, bringing experts into the classroom, connecting with other classrooms from across the globe/country, sharing student work to a larger audience, chatting with a book author... #AppleEDUchat
A4) When I was in Berlin in 2016, I had Video chats at 1am Berlin time with my #21stCenturyMasters students during their course on Tech and Social Media! Several ADE's made cameos! #AppleEduChat It was the only way!
A4: Most recently, used #google hangouts to bring in an architect from NYC to showcase his designs. Q and a sessions, and students explored his building on google maps. #AppleEDUchat
That sounds awesome! I'm in school to be a social studies teacher so this is a great idea to help my students get connected with government outside of the classroom! #AppleEDUchat
A4: I communicate this way often with my friends and family. However, can only recall once using this as a counselor. Did Google Zoom I believe with a student who could not make an appointment but had important scheduling Q's #AppleEDUchat
#AppleEDUchat A4: In our Online IB Biology Options we have a Google Hangout once per week for synchronous teacher support. It’s amazing to meet our Ss from other countries and schools
A4 We recommend faculty use some sort of videoconferencing tool for office hours - usually they pick Skype. Some like to use Adobe Connect or Zoom to allow for larger groups or use additional features like screen sharing. #AppleEDUchat
A4: We haven't done this YET but we've considered setting up a Mystery Skype call in our classroom and develop a relationship with another country to help create perspective during our Model UN unit #AppleEDUchat
A4: Our district is going through a process called redesign, so our redesign team will be researching programs etc. from around the country we plan to use video conferencing #AppleEDUChat
A4: After reading Emerson, Thoreau, and Into the Wild, we use FaceTime to chat w/ a friend that hiked the Appalachian Trail. Ss get a real look at how one might live out the ideals in texts like Walden and Self-Reliance...and then they're all ready to go hike! #AppleEDUchat
A4 My students have done a video chat with a journalist from another country to learn about topic selection and about journalism. #AppleEDUchat
Sorry, joining a little late tonight.
a4) I think sometime in the future when I have my own classroom, I think FaceTime could be a cool feature to utilize. I think if we were able to get in contact with someone from another country, my students would really benefit from that experience.
#AppleEDUchat #3043
A4: We've used Skype for global connections w/my Ss. Highlight was when 4 of my G8 students Skyped into a large convention w/Ts in Brazil to talk about being a student in a digital world. Incredible opportunity for them. #appleeduchat
We read PD books in my grad class, and often will chat with the author. This year we used @Flipgrid and @ClassTechTips connected that way #appleeduchat
A4: One of my favorite uses is #mysteryhangouts. Students get to practice problem solving, questioning, and get to learn about a new culture or location, all from students in another class! #AppleEDUchat
Brandon loves to talk about his experience! It's so cool to hear how passionate he still is about the trail, and it's been three years since he hiked it #AppleEDUchat
A4 #AppleEDUchat my students loved chatting w/Sophia from @MorphiApp , so curious about how you make an app, learning abt #3dprinting, a highlight of the semester!
A4: I had a teacher in my high school who scheduled Skype calls with students from other countries during our lunch hour so we could meet and learn from other students and teachers around the globe! #appleeduchat
A5 Facebook. I enjoy the closed groups so you are just working with who you know. I love tossing questions out to twitter, but when I need an expert I know where to go. #AppleEDUchat
A5: Definitely @Twitter! I look forward connecting w my tribe during #AppleEDUChat & learning from those I know and those I don’t know when looking for daily inspiration! It’s one of my favorite professional learning tools!
a5) It really varies by Country.. Twitter for US but I find more of my European collaborators are on Facebook. #AppleEDUchat I really need to get better at @Padlet seeing lots of good things there.
Have you tried checking the Connected Classroom Workshop page in Google Plus communities? There are tons of opportunities to bring experts into your classroom on there! #AppleEDUchat
I used to love Facebook groups but dislike that it doesn't connect with people you're not "friends" with! Now I love Twitter because I am able to connect with teachers from all over & art Ts who have the same "style" (with tech!) of teaching as I do, like @fuglefun! #AppleEDUChat
Q5: Twitter is the main social media app I use. I once helped a teacher in the American Forces schools get in contact with someone in PBS so teachers in the AFS could attend a PBS digital event. It all worked out, and I have a new Twitter buddy in Germany. #appleeduchat
A5: I used to love FB groups but dislike that it doesn't connect with people you're not "friends" with! Now I love Twitter because I am able to connect with teachers from all over & art Ts who have the same "style" (with tech!) of teaching as I do, like @fuglefun! #AppleEDUChat
A5) i am new to collaborating on social media, and so far I have sound twitter as the most useful. Today was my first twitter chat experience and I just think it is so cool that I am able to communicate with such wonderful educators.
#AppleEDUchat #3043
I wish more educators were on @Twitter but I do understand that there’s a learning curve with it. Excited to go my dissertation on the affect on @Twitter PD #AppleEDUchat
A5: Twitter is my favorite! I love how quick it is to tweet something out and get a response. Especially companies that don't include contact information on their website. #appleeduchat
A5: My favorite app for collaborating with students is @showbie. It is a safe way to collaborate with kiddos that are not ready to collaborate on safari. #appleeduchat
A5: I know it's been said but that's because it's so good - @Twitter!!!! I never used twitter until last school year and I can't believe what I was missing out on! I've connected with so many educators I would never have met and learned of some amazing resources #AppleEDUchat
A5 For Ed Tech, I turn to Twitter. The Ed Tech Community on Twitter is extremely helpful and a giant family. For band, many of us utilize a massive Facebook group. It is a little more private and closed off from the rest of the teaching community.
#AppleEDUchat
A5: Still new to this, but am really beginning to see the benefits of using Twitter for professional development & collaboration. Our department maintains our own Twitter page which is helpful. #AppleEDUchat
A5) i am new to collaborating on social media, and so far I have sound twitter as the most useful. Today was my first twitter chat experience and I just think it is so cool that I am able to communicate with such wonderful educators.
#AppleEDUchat #3043
A5 Hands down, my favorite is Twitter. It can be used to collaborate in so many ways - in class, outside of class, in class with outside experts, with colleagues around the world, with people who speak different languages, etc. #AppleEDUchat
A5: @Twitter is my fave! But I also love to post photos & videos of what's happening in my classroom on @instagram. It's such a good way to engage families and show them what learning is happening! #AppleEDUchat
I actually reject @Snapchat I never got it.. but I did like #bookclips. I know that @TheTechRabbi does some stuff there.. but it is not my jam. But with all tech its okay to make choices. #AppleEDUchat
In reply to
@cmiller_shs, @Snapchat, @TheTechRabbi
Q6: What is your preferred method of collaboration and why? Tweet your answer and or create and post a #classroomclips that shows your response! #AppleEDUchat
I’m new to twitter but loving it so far for professional learning. I also love Instagram (@Susquenitahighschoolart) and Pinterest (both very visual for an art teacher). #AppleEDUchat
That. Is. The. Coolest.
Love it! A way to have parents "be there" without having to take off work (or have a crazy classroom full of people!) #AppleEDUChat
A5: This being my first time using social media to collaborate with others, I think it's safe to say I really like Twitter! It was so cool seeing so many perspectives and ideas all organized in one place! #appleeduchat
A5: @Twitter is my fave! But I also love to post photos & videos of what's happening in my classroom on @instagram. It's such a good way to engage families and show them what learning is happening! #AppleEDUchat
Q6: The ability to share out documents, spreadsheet and presentations falls into my number one. Getting ready for MACUL here in Michigan and this is how I’m working with 2 groups I’m presenting with. #AppleEDUchat
@5NEWSJoe is a great weather resource and has some storm tracking experience. Joe, this is an educator seeking a classroom chat regarding storm chasing. #AppleEDUchat
A6: Hands down, f2f for me. Less screen time and more free flowing conversation. However, we can limit ourselves to solely relying on f2f interaction. As evidenced by this chat, there are so many brilliant minds out there. So many great ideas. #AppleEDUchat
Yes - and it’s all about purpose - what do you want to do, and what is the best tool to do it. We can model the decision making and problem solving process for our Ss by explaining our choices. #AppleEDUchat

I’ve decided... synchronous video collaboration (w/google docs open on the side). I can see the person and built a relationship and trust with them, but also easily connect with someone who is far far away. #AppleEDUchat
I'm trying to post my #Classroomclips but slow connection is stopping me! Collaboration can be difficult when @verizon doesn't provide good cellular service... #appleeduchat
Agree that for me it’s a combination too, and I think when we use different types of collaboration together and with intentionality, it can make the connection, collaboration, and product even stronger. #appleeduchat
A6: I think it's important to model our decision making process for collaboration for Ss. What's the best way for me to accomplish this job or solve this problem? Then choose the collaboration tool you need #AppleEDUchat
A6 I will pretty much try any collaboration technique bc I try to practice what I teach which is “Figure it out with a Friend!” My number 1 is collaborating Face to Face! #AppleEDUchat#CCSDfam
#AppleEDUchat A7: Closing thoughts are that this chat has stimulated tons of inspiration for collaboration in the past hr! Awesome job @cicohen@meredithedtech
A7 Collaboration is not just an awesome tool for the learning process, but it is a life lesson as well. Students have to be able to work with others in the "real" world. This is yet another way for us to properly prepare them.

#AppleEDUchat you have been incredible tonight! Thank you for the inspiration and amazing collaboration. Let’s keep it going! And the #classroomclips are so good!! #AppleEDUchat
A7: closing thoughts? This chat needs a follow up where we all share the things we have started to collaborate on with our new connections! #AppleEDUchat
