Tonight we are discussing "Turning Passion into Purpose"
-
Q1: How do we identify the passions in our students?
-
- Look deeper. What are S's failing at, yet are coming back for more? Could be the start of passion.
-
-
A1: we find our Ss passions by observing and talking to them. Listen and Learn! https://t.co/YFJ1h7QDkf

Q1: How do we identify the passions in our students?
-
- I'm told TweetDeck is slow this evening.
-
A1: talk to them; learn about them outside of the academics. Connect w/S on their level and then that can lead to academic passions
-
A1 - bldg relationships & observing Ss in class activities
-
-
Q2: How do we identify and nurture the passions in our colleagues?
-
A2: again, talk to them outside of academic convo. Get to know the person in the classroom, this will again lead 2 prof passions
-
Want to know what drives your colleagues? Ask why they became a teacher.
-
A2 cont. once passions are recognized you can find attributable PD, book studies, Twitter chats etc to help them grow
-
Similarly to students, we talk with and encourage them. We find ways to support, not compete or critique. https://t.co/BVjkYnUzYA

Q2: How do we identify and nurture the passions in our colleagues?
-
A2: look and listen! Values come out in actions. Important to provide outlets for extending these into learning and improvement
-
-
Q3: What gets in the way of turning passions into purpose (action)?
-
A3: time, out of school commitments, know how, willingness to take a risk
-
Our staff created their own Twitter chat we just help promote it. So proud of them!
-
A3: all the things we need to do each day that don't always align with our values. Have to try to prioritize passion and joy
-
Such a great idea! I would love to help them facilitate this! We have a big learning curve to tackle first! https://t.co/h1kwsF8fih

-
-
It's been a two year process of tweeting, but year 2 has seen tremendous growth in Ts comfort, we use it all the time
-
Q4: What can we, as leaders, do to ensure that school is a building built around passion and not requirement?
-
A4 We can encourage the passions of our staff and leaders. When we only stick to the official playbook we miss opportunities
-
A4 bring you +Ss passions in2 teaching;make the standards work for YOU,rather than you working for them; it's work but it will work!
-
A4: Ts and Ss turn in their best performances when it involves something they are passionate about.
-
Q5: YOUR TURN - What makes/made you want to lead?
-
A5 I experienced a terrible princ;she destroyed our staff/campus;i knew there was so much I could do so this didn't happen 2 others
-
-
-
You ARE a great leader, ! You inspire me
-
It's unfortunate that we can sometimes learn more what NOT to do from a poor leader--but still a good lesson
-
luckily I am now learning under an amazing leader and I am so grateful for it.
-
Thank you for joining tonight. Be better every day in every way - our students deserve it.
