Not so sure about 'patterns of thinking' but iteration and perseverance are two common competencies I come through, as well as collaboration & creativity #MinecraftEdu
  • Mr_Ullman Mar 27 @ 8:12 PM EDT
A1 Non-linear thinking...the idea that there's no one right way to solve a problem. #MinecraftEdu
  • mr_isaacs Mar 27 @ 8:13 PM EDT
A1: critical thinking, design thinking, computational thinking, geez sounds like a lot of thinking! #minecraftedu
  • Qmodo99 Mar 27 @ 8:13 PM EDT
A1: I feel like you could structure a lesson to be used by any type of learner, though the obvious answer is the creative thinkers! #minecraftedu has tools that can facilitate it all though!
  • mr_isaacs Mar 27 @ 8:13 PM EDT
A1: narrative / storytelling, game design, engineering and automation. #minecraftedu
  • kispypniko Mar 27 @ 8:14 PM EDT
A1 there is a variety skillsets to be learned, but build, design thinking and collaborative problem solving are quite easy to implement #MinecraftEdu
  • nayrbgo Mar 27 @ 8:14 PM EDT
You've identified four items we can develop. Nice! What have you seen with iteration, in particular, that strikes you as worthwhile in #MinecraftEdu?

  • ibpossum Mar 27 @ 8:16 PM EDT
Just that students don't mind adding to what they build/do, or don't mind going back to the beginning to get it right. but if they 'fail' on paper, often they won't go back and start again.... not sure why it is different in a digital environment #MinecraftEdu
    In reply to @nayrbgo
  • nayrbgo Mar 27 @ 8:16 PM EDT
Tons of thinking! Nice points to articulate there. We can add that to the curriculum/pedagogy/outcome mega list -- which should hopefully always grow! #MinecraftEdu

  • Qmodo99 Mar 27 @ 8:22 PM EDT
I think @PBJellyGames explained this to me with some awesome little cards about types of thinkers. There are kids who prefer destruction, some who prefer creation, some who prefer adventures, and the list really goes on forever. Those patterns translate well into #minecraftedu

Danig it. Missed the #MinecraftEdu hashtag!
  • mr_isaacs Mar 27 @ 8:27 PM EDT
A2: we can embrace how kids learn in informal spaces. This game came with no manual yet it had more resources out there than you’ll find in any text book. Kids know how to learn. Let’s follow their lead. #MinecraftEdu
  • Qmodo99 Mar 27 @ 8:28 PM EDT
A2: I'm going to run similarly to what @mr_isaacs just said about learning from students! One of my favorite ideas to introduce is essentially passing the idea of helping with a problem on to students! #minecraftedu

  • nayrbgo Mar 27 @ 8:39 PM EDT
A3: The balance is far more heavily geared towards achieving standards at this point in history, in most schools, so we could make some room for students to play and create in an undefined space and see how we might link it to standards afterwards. #MinecraftEdu
