Q2Different perspectives. My English classmates were surprised that we actually studied US history-- our history was so short☺
A2 People see the world differently; we need to work together-we grow when we learn about things outside of our own experience!

Through coursework for my MA & PhD. I didn't travel until I was a teacher. My Ss do these activites in my courses

A2: Culture/conflict are complex; Ts are reluctant to teach globally for many reasons; Teaching globally requires risk-taking
A1: May have learned more about US schooling/culture than I did of the countries I studied/visited...
A2: they helped me understand that my POV and truth isn't THE POV and THE truth, that there are others, and they matter, too
A2 Real friendships & bonds showed that we're all connected by a shared humanity

A2: For me, I spent a lot of time with people from other cultures - so I learned a lot about cross-cultural communication!
A2: Lots and lots of travel showed the threads of similarities among the differences
A2: compassion. Awareness. That the world is so big and we are an important but very small part.
A2:People see actions of citizens & gov't as separate. Was in S. Korea & Japan during Iraq War & learned pov through convo
A2: Helping Ss understand the nature of their cultural lenses requires that we model this ourselves

Listening to podcast on WWI in Africa, watching on mute & taking part in - catching up globally on speed!!
A2: I learned that there are a variety of diverse perspectives on most issues/current events (rarely covered by US media)

Q3Teacher educators are so burdened with meeting accreditation, State and University requirements.

A3. Most prep programs do not strategically & systemically address integrating global as a top priority.
Explored on my own & thru the Global Fellowship last yr. That stepped up my “game”!
A3: Time: there are many competing priorities in their schedules. That’s why we must integrate thru-out teacher prep
A3: if teacher prep programs aren't interested or able to incorporate global perspective/insights, Ts may not be equipped

Very interesting question! Came up in a different conversation recently about changing student demographics.
Multilingual teachers would be ideal given the incredible increase in bilingual students!

. No question about it. The way adults thrive when they own their work is true for youth, too. This stuff is human.
