Co teaching and curriculum that features inclusive voices
-
-
A1: real belief that Least Restrictive is a S right. All Ts 'own' all Ss.
-
Realization that the "label" will start real conversations and support. Being honest, proactive, and optimistic are vital
-
Great ideas and I'm sure coming from experience!
-
Totally right! Partnerships are necessary!
-
Share resources, knowledge, and risk taking. Being creative in approach is so important. Not all brains are alike.
-
Always listen to parents and do the groundwork to "win" their trust. So much simpler when we are all on the same page

Co teaching and curriculum that features inclusive voices
-
Q2 coming up in a moment!
-
Right! Can't assume trust. Ps have a history with school. Some bad. Need to earn their trust & faith. 😀 https://t.co/1C0fTcwH7P
-
-
Always listen to parents and do the groundwork to "win" their trust. So much simpler when we are all on the same page
-
-
-
-
a2) Teacher certification programs must change for doors to be open to a better variety of leaders
-
A2: help all Ts and Ps view inclusion as a moral imperative.
-
-
-
Bring together a team w/ parents, paras, all Ts to coordinate & manage resources and deliver on plan. https://t.co/roN6jW0ZE9
-
-
Always listen to parents and do the groundwork to "win" their trust. So much simpler when we are all on the same page
-
This should be a given. But I agree that many feel it is not imperative in that sense of the word
-
Education, dialogue, knowledge.Teach your sts, ps &community what learning differences are like. https://t.co/p579ZFHF8I
-
Inclusive materials within the classroom and acknowledging differences not ignoring groups of Ss
-
A2: don't let them, or use them to build dynamics of the classroom. Let there be peer tutoring opportunities or collaboration.
-
Bridging that gap is something that should be a part of every schools mission statement
-
A2: find ways as a T to eliminate differences and treat everyone as equals and don't let the differences get in the way.
-
So, I'm -in tonight. What are you doing?
-
A2. I always ask my kids: What would it look like if everyone looked and acted the same way?
-
unfortunately, too many general Ed Ts abrogate responsibility to Sped partners. Lack of ownership of kids. 😕
-
We also need to build empathy from day one. But that needs to be school, community, nation-wide.
-
A2: Language. Calling attention to language used. Our language can shape how others (stdts) see/feel/react to differences.
-
A2: I want to say education. But humans are fickle beasts! Sad reality is we judge what we see. Must get better…
-
couldn't agree more. PD opportunities right there!
-
How about ....don't be intimidated if someone has a better idea or is more talented than you. Open arms!
-
So right.Showing unity through a shared vocabulary is important. Need to understand our labels power/potential
-
YES YES YES. They are not someone else's problem. Their scores, their thoughts, their beliefs - ALL MATTER.
-
Yep-- listen to our girl . She's IT!!
-
Concern that tracking kids may actually create hierarchy & erode empathy. Cluster may be better way.
-
I feel this works/is the norm in primary. How do we keep this going?
-
make students understand that maybe there is no such thing as 'normal' therefore respecting each other for who they are
-
Good point. I agree with the hierarchy. How do we lesson the pole of "standing" in school?
-
I tell my kids, "You will not be like anyone else-ever. You are set apart."
-
Dinner is on the table. Gr8 conversation. Will check in later! Thanks!
-
A2: emphasize the beauty in differences. Our community has greater resources because of its personalities & differences
-
a2: success is defined in shallow terms & creates stigma, teach that contributing to social good=success https://t.co/U8GqWFQUsc
-
I think some classes are oasis of this thought. Needs a skilled, firm but kind, empathetic teacher
-
Open door policy regarding AP courses
-
A2 Teach Tolerance & acceptance;encourage parents to teach Ss; or Ss teach parents)ie when Ss taught parents to use seatbelts)
-
-
Yes. We should ask sts "What problems do you want to solve" as an entrypoint. Not how much do you want to earn.
-
Assimilation is the greatest demon of our school.
-
A2: Celebrate what makes people unique instead of looking for connections/similarities all the time - build the culture!
-
Totally. Compliance and perfection don't set any student up for success.
-
-
-
A2: identify Ss strengths & develop it. According to career track- differences are transferable, just like skills.
-
Hard, honest conversations need to take place. Schools will do their best but without political support/funding....
-
Agreed. This can be avoiding when students come first
-
a3) Leaders need to eat last. Humble and honest approaches always create synergy on a social and emotional level
-
Asking teachers what they think...
-
A3: Leaders also need to help staff become able to create inclusive learning environments: pd, training, and LOTS of help
-
A little late to the party, but glad to be here! 2nd grade teacher KS
-
Love that question! An inclusive position that gives purpose & meaning to learning & all contributions. https://t.co/ACqOgX4YsG
-
-
Yes. We should ask sts "What problems do you want to solve" as an entrypoint. Not how much do you want to earn.
-
A3: Ask individuals with disabilities what *they* think of the culture and how supported they feel.
-
They are the go-to people. Need to be the most informed & optimistic person in the building.
-
A3 Leaders must be active observers, listeners and reflectors in order to best assess the needs of their school
-
You're right, Ashley! https://t.co/APjGmlXgXA
-
-
A2: Celebrate what makes people unique instead of looking for connections/similarities all the time - build the culture!
-
A3: Start with the goals of what education every student deserves, and work from there, reflecting with many different groups.
-
A3: have admin meet with Ss to find out what needs to hog on in the building. Lunch with the admin to discuss issues.
-
A3: Time. Classroom support. Matching of teacher/teaching style with the process of inclusion. All should does not mean all can.
-
A3: like UBD inclusion is deliberate and thoughtful but requires attention & effort. Look at plan and offer perspective to Ts.
-
This is a vital point. Inclusion is an ideal; extremely demanding upon an already overwhelmed teacher.Recognize this.
-
-
-
TED_ED: Q2 coming up in a moment!
-
-
A2 Create shared experiences w staff that help develop and build relationships, based on those differences!
-
This is a longterm commitment. An inclusive school is a labour of love, hard-work. Can't just happen overnight or via PD.
-
A3 Leaders possess the qualities needed to ignite change, inspire others, and change outlooks. They must be active communicators
-
From birth, the infant who is learning that predates those of the social, political, and historical conditions.
-
Hmmmm..."But, the budget meeting, though." says every admin ever. No time for classroom actualization. Except :)
-
Can parents & teachers be the voice of reason/persuation in this case?
-
A3 schools can model the same acceptance & tolerance that they want Ss to exhibit
-
Specific education for fellow classmates-ignoring the reality can create a patronizing environment
-
A2 Creating an open minded learning environment where you can teach awareness in a safe, respectful manner
-
youth changed societal views as they mature and become adults; look at how different the world is from 20 yrs ago
-
YES schools must walk the talk!
-
-
-
-
A3: take SEL seriously by embedding in curriculum- how can content areas support SEL & vice versa. We all teach SEL.
-
A4: Continue showcasing voices of ALL students, not just the typical. Continue to be a model of acceptance and the new "normal"
-
one way is by using the bank of inspirational talks that are available and sharing these with students
-
Q4 Bravery- just like we teach students. Throw away the worksheets and crossword puzzles. Speak what they all understand.
-
-
TED-Ed Lesson plat. neutral enough to offer endless opps4differentiation, accomodation, & https://t.co/t0JqmHxzJ7 matters

-
Allow students to pick the ted Ed lesson
-
Let teachers take risk, listen to st voice, ditch the standardized test hamster wheel & create citizens instead
-
-
Student voice through selection of curriculum
-
A3 schools need to create safe & secure spaces to permit Ss an opportunity to express themselves (ie Maslow)
-
-
TED_ED: Wrapping up Q3, on to Q4
-
-
A4 does a great job having speakers from diverse walks of life, utilizing these creates an inclusive classroom
-
Ummm...can we not watch a movie every time we have a sub on a Friday?
-
And gives sts an image of themselves they might not see elsewhere.
-
-
A4: Ss view TED talks featuring speakers w/disabilities physical or intellectual. Emphasize if they can do it so can Ss!
-
A4 continue showcasing not just diverse individuals but diverse mindsets, it's cool to be different!
-
-
-
YES it inspires kiddos to try new things and create their own unique learning paths
-
-
TED-Ed gives sts a chance to highlight/celebrate/speak about that unique path.
-
-
A4: Offer multiple videos of different voices on the same topics - inclusion, confidence, sports, family - model acceptance.
-
a4: love TED talks bc curation is model of inclusion. Share selection criteria w/ Ts to guide instruction so it speaks to all.
-
Fabulous chat ! Thoughtful questions and a great topic.
